pro-abortion? Who wrote this? No bias in the media? I've never met anyone who was pro-abortion. I've met a lot of people, including my 70 something grandmother, who are pro-choice. Many of whom, like myself, would not choose to have an abortion, but don't want to see this country go back to dangerous and deadly abortions or see anyone serve jail time for making a difficult and deeply personal decision. I think that many of the foundations of the Republican mindset, such as keeping government small, align themselves more closely with pro-choice politics than so called "pro-life" or anti-abortion, anti-choice politics.

While I believe Tom Ridge would make an excellent Vice President, his views on abortion would not help the more conservative base McCain needs to attract. I think Charlie Crist or Condaleeza Rice or even Colin Powell would make for a better ticket.

         McCain for President

Tom Ridge has no credibility with the American people just like all the other bushies, except for maybe Colin Powell.

Why were all of the republicans on Sunday's show coming across as angry, old, scared, white guys?? Don't worry fellas. Obama has white folks in his family, too. He won't screw you over.

Yep, just what McBush needs. One of Bush's inept administrators to help McBush continue the totally mismanaged war in Iraq. The selling of our jobs to China. The accumulation of a trillion dollars in debt to the Chinese. The ruined economy. The worthless dollar. The disrespect of every other nation on earth, ad infintum. God help us in this our hour of need.

One Word for MCCain - Run -

Ridge allowed companies (that are not bonded) access to individual personal info (SSN,DOB,DL,) etc., via credit card accounts Shame Ridge you'll be remembered for the increase of identity theft incidents. Same with CA Gov and their special interest with companies. There's money in crime.

Please think and vote "Democratic" - We are spending billions of dollars on a war. -- We own other countries trillions of dollars. ---

We are losing jobs, losing homes... gas is sky high and because of that war we are losing lives.

Since Bush, we are losing a lot...-- now with the floods, which will cost billions. Now food will go up.

This is not about whom you like or dislike -- this is about the Democrats winning... Save the USA or we will be the new 3rd world.
Please do not vote McSame.

Are we any safer? We haven't been attacked since 9/11, thank you very much. The point is that Homeland Security has done its job. As a Pennsylvanian, I believe Ridge would be an excellent VP choice. He did an amazing job as governor of Pennsylvania. He is a moderate Republican, similar to McCain, and would be a good complement even though he is pro-choice (another reason why I like him). I believe Ridge would be able to help court both Republicans as well as Independents. Vote McCain!

This is a joke right? if McCain wants to distance himself from Bush the last thing he should be thinking about doing is picking a VP candidate from Bush's cabinet and the last person he should be thinking about is the Homeland Security guy what about COndelezza Rice she would be the best choice if McCain HAD to pick someone from the Bush Administration.

I think, as an Obama supporter, that Ridge would help McCain in some ways. BUT, I think the social conservatives would not vote him and instead look to to Bob Barr.
Oh, and he'd help put more pressure on Obama in Pennsylvania.

Tough call, but I think McCain has to energize the far right if he wants to keep the contest competitive.
Just an opinion from the center.

VP for McCain??????? Don't care. We need to find the best one for Obama. Of course, most of us who voted in the primaries want someone to nominate Senator Clinton for the Presidential run instead of endorsing Obama. In which case, who would be a good VP for Hillary Clinton. I say Senator Biden.

He is one of the less objectionable Rebuplicans. And I have to agee that Homeland Security is a joke. Try protection for the ports and our borders, but that migh cost money they could otherwise funnel to their oil lobby owners. Drill Drill Drill, all they know, direct from the oil barons. WE have to move to be secure and have energy now, not 20 years and a trillion $ down the road, if the country lasts that long.

Tom Ridge is from my home town of Erie, PA...he was very popular in Pennsylvania when he was governor. I hope he is not picked, as it would increase the work Obama needs to do in Pennsylvania to carry it. Right now, Pennsylvania is Obama's to lose, but with Ridge on the ticket, it may put Pennsylvania in McCain's pocket...

Tom Ridge is VP choice! He has sooo much experience: military. house of rep, governor of penn, and secretary of homeland security. He can help win the swing state of Penn. What all McCain has to say is: "I'm pro-life, and that's what all that matters. The fact that my running mate is pro-choice is irrelevent."

We are very proud Independents and have voted for both Democrat and Republican (moreso) candidates in local, state and federal elections in the past. This time, our hearts and minds are in synch with Barack Obama at the moment, and we fully expect to vote for him in the Fall. I am baffled though with how in the world Tom Ridges can be at all considered for the GOP VP??? I think anyone closely related to the Bush administration 911 positioning would be a liability to the Republican leaning independents. And what's with the statement about revealing or not revealing the contents of a hypothetical meeting?! We don't want the Bush/Chencey secretive and deceitful administration all over again!

The only thing I want Tom Rigde to discuss with John McCain is a good dentist so that he (McCain) can get his teeth cleaned and whitened.

Dear Ed, No one is pro-abortion. It is a horrible thing to have to face. They are pro-choice however. A big difference.

Mc Cain would seek to overturn Roe v. Wade. What's next? Maybe we should suspend Habeaus Corpus or maybe the first ammendment... As long as we all keep wearing our flag pins things will be OK though. That's the ticket.

A vote for the Republican party is a vote for tyrany.

As someone who was able to observe Tom Ridge for a long time as Governor of PA, I can tell you that McCain could certainly do a lot worse than Tom Ridge. He's capable and moderate with his own set of views. To lump him in with the incompetence of the Bush administration is unfair. Let me be clear, I'm still avidly supporting Obama but I think you all at least be fair to the man.

His stance on abortion rights may hurt him with the radical right but his tenure as Homeland Security Secretary hurts him with everyone else. Of course one could expect some growing pains as the department got organized, but it is still a farce all these years later. The country is not safer. Civil liberties and basic human rights are routinely ignored and the residents of the Gulf Coast are STILL waiting for an adequate response to Hurricane Katrina.

And that is if you are able to forget for a minute that he is one of Bushes more eager lapdogs.

Tom Ridge, the guy with the deer in the headlight look ..I must comment on another blog..Kevin, on another post. Loved your post turtle story. May I borrow it? It fits Obama to a tee. I had never heard it before, and find it hillar-ious. I remember the Robin Williams movie, Man of the Year, where he accidently wins the election. Didn't have the foggest idea what to do. Obama fits that mold, also that movie is where Obama got the, "we are not red states, we are not blue states, we are the United States." I got to admit it has a nice ring to it. Obama, is a POST TURTLE! I will write Hillary Clinton on my ballot in November, watsted or not my conscience will be clear.

Your comments are too harsh. Tom Ridge has never projected himself as being alert enough to do any real damage or good for the country. Besides, he presided over the establishment of the Homeland Security color code threat system. If he is the VP it will be code "blue" for the GOP.

IT dont Matter who is McSame VP.
He lost his "BID" when he Represent a Third Term Bush!
No economic plans
No end of the War in sight (meanwhile Iraq prime minister was seen hugging n kissing the Iranian President) Straight Dis to the US!
No plans for help at the pumps - only some cosmetic offshore drilling that will not get gas to the pumps for another 10 yrs!
A woman's right to choose will be taken away!
McCain was recently discovered taking money from a Texan who said "when rape is inevitable a woman should just lay back and enjoy it" How can a woman vote for that!?!?!!

Now Hillary will be stumping with Sen Obama on Fri!
Whats your "EXCUSE" now Blue Collar Workrs/Women?
What weak excuse will you use to cover up the "REAL" bigotry reason - let me guess: Hillary should be made VP? A sense of 'entitlement' again I see!
I dont think so!
Who ever Sen Obama picks for VP will be BEST suited for that position!
I trust his judgement - It hasn't been wrong thus !!!

Well, all the Bushie failures and incompetents are certainly rising to the surface - at least the ones that aren't under indictment or in jail.
