The Obama campaign is no longer using the above logo.

(CNN) – Barack Obama’s communications director said Monday that the presidential seal the campaign unveiled last week at a meeting with Democratic governors won’t be seen again.

“That was a one time thing for a one time event," Robert Gibbs told CNN.

Pegged to Obama’s rostrum at Friday’s meeting was his campaign’s version of the presidential seal – a bald eagle clutching an olive branch and arrows in its talons, but instead of a shield covering the center of the eagle’s body, Obama’s had the campaign’s trademark “O.” Rather of the words “Seal of the President of the United States” around the circumference, “Obama for America” and “www.barackobama.com” lined the top and bottom.

The Latin “Vero Possumus” was arched between the eagle’s wings, meaning “Yes we can,” an Obama slogan and rally chant.

Many wondered whether a seal – with Latin phrasing no less - was the best idea for a candidate fighting for the working class vote and trying to fend off allegations of elitism.

TO MCCAIN: TOO MUCH VIETNAM IS WHAT MAKES YOU TOO MUCH IGNORANT TO BE PRESIDENT FOR LOSING TO MANY BRAIN CELLS WHILE YOU WERE A PRISONER, PRETTY MUCH LIKE YOUR DADDY BUSH ONLY THAT I THINK THAT HE WAS BORN WITH ONLY A FEW BRAIN CELLS… THE POINT IS THAT YOU CAN'T BE PRESIDENT BECAUSE YOU'RE WAR-SICK AND THAT MAKES YOU THINK ONLY ON WAR, DEATH, WAR, WAR, WARWARWARWAR…

Sheri   June 23rd, 2008 5:18 pm ET

The logo is very nice. It's just a logo. Look good!

Gene   June 23rd, 2008 5:17 pm ET

I love it… Obama gets blasted for things like using a logo, or not using tax dollars to run his campaign. McCain gets blasted for wanting to continue a war at the objection of the majority of the american people, and denying service men the benefits which he himself received.

This shows how petty people are. All this crying over a logo, or who's paying for a campaign when there's real issues out there. Yes.. Obama, the evil arrogant guy who used a logo which we didn't like. Obama, the one to bring the whole country down (like it isn't down right now).

The rest of the world is just praying that Obama gets elected.. so the United States can be seen as a country with leadership that actually listens as opposed to just throwing our weight around.

B   June 23rd, 2008 5:16 pm ET

Both candidates' energy policies are stupid.
Using ethanol just keeps food prices (ethanol comes from corn) higher so we can drive. Does that make sense? No.
Offshore drilling just exposes us to a whole host of crazy risks that would not make any sense if we weren't so addicted to driving.
Here's a thought: walk somewhere. Ride a bike. Would it be so terrible if our lives slowed down a little bit? Probably not.

As far as the logo is concerned, Obama is a cocky, elitist snob. He knows the American people are buying into the rhetoric he is literally spewing. It's still presumptuous, but if you were on the receiving end of all the undeserved praise that he has been, wouldn't you be a little egotistical too?

Mat   June 23rd, 2008 5:15 pm ET

Bad idea - gives the idea that he thinks he's allready won it - only the President of the US should stand with that symbol - anyone else, even Obama, and I am a big supporter of Obama, looks cocky and almost smug!

I'm sure his campaign did not intend that - more so, they probably wanted people to get use to the idea of Obama as President - this was not the way.

No need to worry - apparently McCains advisors are hoping for another attack on America to secure 4 more years in the White House - what does that say!

Anita from Arizona   June 23rd, 2008 5:14 pm ET

Ok, and how is this article going to lower my cost for groceries?

Sam   June 23rd, 2008 5:13 pm ET

I'm an Obama supporter and even though I'm one of his kool-aid drinkers, I thought that his "seal" was a bit over the top. By the way, the actual translation of the latin is: "It is a truth that we have the ability". I guess that explains why the Romans didn't use bumper stickers. That would have been a big bumper sticker to put on a chariot.

Considering what the bloggers are saying here about Obama's elitism and arrogance, I'd suggest his campaign get a slogan that says, "I'm pretty sure we can, but I'm not making any promises until the guys that went to community college let me know it's OK."

Republican for Obama   June 23rd, 2008 5:13 pm ET

Glad the insignia is gone, it did look a bit too much and a tad disrespectful of the Oval Office (regardless of whether you like our current Pres or not, we need to respect the symbology of it)

I just have to say: I promise to vote for a Republican (who would of thunked it based on my blog name) if Hillary ever runs for President. PUMA and their threats are all but killing any chance of Hillary to ever be elected. She will end up in the Ralph Nader category if her lunatics don't grow up. Revenge can be a cruel punishment, and it always goes both ways.

Gene   June 23rd, 2008 5:13 pm ET

I love how people are making some a big deal about this. Who cares… so he's using a presidential logo while he's running for the PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES. I love how people these days see confidence as arrogance. Even more so.. I love how people make a judgement that he's elitist. ANYONE running to obtain the most ELITE job in the country and possibly the world is an ELITIST. I wouldn't want someone who's not an elitist to run for president.

EmmaAtlanta   June 23rd, 2008 5:12 pm ET

Thank Goodness the almighty Seal is gone. This is another politics of convenience. Obama spent all that money to use it for only one time? Tell that to the 12 year old supporters who do not even know the type of change they are chanting for. Change for good or change for bad, the seal is a big sign and time will tell.

DJ, LA, CA   June 23rd, 2008 5:12 pm ET

What's the big deal? It's just an eagle with same stuff in his talons inside a circle.

The Neo-Cons are just jealous that they don't have any cool looking or creative logos of their own

RRE   June 23rd, 2008 5:11 pm ET

Anne   June 23rd, 2008 5:10 pm ET

Do it, see which way the wind blows and then when it s bad, pretend you didn't really mean to continue doing it and then make it disappear. Just like he did with Rev. Wright. He waited until the press got too bad and then discarded him just like this elitist seal.

What, the OBAMA SEAL?? UNBELIEVEABLE!! Doesn't he have any control over those people running his campaign?? Another example of hiis Elitism –Huberis.

Is this a preview of how he will run the country IF he is elected President??? An example of an exercise in POOR JUDGEMENT!

We have seen him as, "the Great Orator ", BUT the questions remain, can he LEAD effectively? That will depend on whom he chooses for his vice-presidential running mate. WHY NOT HILLARY??? But can he GOVERN??? As his campaign progresses we will see about his choices.

I cannot vote for Obama. McCain has sold his soul to the religious right to get their vote. IT'S ABOUT THE SUPREME COURT and trying to REPEAL ROE vs WADE!!

I have always voted in an election.. This time I will vote for Marc Warner for Senator from Virginia , and any Dem running for the House. I will write in Hillary Clinton for President!! If that is not possible, my NO VOTE for president will signify a vote for Clinton.

Let's see how many crossover Republican votes there were for Obama. I still maintain she won the popular vote. Get rid of the Super Delagates!! We never had them before in an election!

Remember, a NO VOTE for president is a vote for Hillary in NOV.

Aww poor Obama, he has McSame supporters and Hillary supporters coming after him. I tried my hardest to rally behind Obama I couldn't though Hillary. Especially after he told her supporters to get over it. I'm sorry Mr. Obama but I can't vote for you.

Lame talkers   June 23rd, 2008 5:07 pm ET

You people who all take up for everything Obama does are like parents thinking thier kids can never do wrong, while they are at it constantly. It is very presumptious of him to already be making his own version of the seal, disrespectful of our traditions. He should wait till the time comes, if it does?

ACG in Dallas   June 23rd, 2008 5:07 pm ET

Wow! Every single time he gets criticized for something, he drops it. Quit his Church after the Jeremian Wright and Pfleger controversies. Now his campaign logo. Add to that opting out of public funding. This guy can not stand for anything he believes in. He will do and say anything to get elected, even if it means sacrificing his integrity. How can Hussein Obama lead this country? Unbelievable!

Jean   June 23rd, 2008 5:07 pm ET

It is getting boreing reading all of these comments infering that all voters are so pathetic as to operate only on emotions, inferiority and inogrance. Voters are more informed and are capable of critical thought.

Towards the end of his Presidential campaign, GW Bush 'rehersed' the oath of office at a rally. For those of you who are saying Obama is being arrogant, don't you suppose he has the right to be, he is a presidential nominee, more than the average guy achieves.

Arrogance is the sef image of a man. Backpedaling is the weak character of a man. Saying whatever you think the people want to hear is the attitude that others are fools. And last, but not least, smiling can sometimes only be a showing of one's teeth.

I have issues with a person possessing these characteristics when applying for the Presidency of our great nation.

Show me real. Show me integrity. Show me determination. Show me something I would vote for. "Change" is a lot of things….that doesn't mean "change" is automatically what is best for America.

Please post

Marshall   June 23rd, 2008 5:03 pm ET

That's right Eli. It's all about getting the 'story straight'; because it's certainly not about telling the truth with Obama. Enlightened Voter, you can't fight Obama on the issues because he has no positions, just spin and negative attacks. Against NAFTA until it's better to be for NAFTA. I personally think this was a low level design decision that someone made. Considering the fact that Obama didn't really even like the current logo that is being used because it was too "slick", I'm pretty certain when Obama walked into the room and saw that he wanted to have it taken down, but it was too late. "Many wondered whether a seal – with Latin phrasing no less - was the best idea…"

Who exactly is "many"? I never saw you quote anyone… And I noticed that on other networks they more or less ignored the seal, instead opting to cover what actually went on at the meeting.

It's called "substance", CNN. Give it a try sometime.

Sean   June 23rd, 2008 4:30 pm ET

The seal is gone, that is good, it was a bad marketing stradegy. I like Obama's stance on renewable energy, ethanol is a viable alternative. Illinois is the second largest producer of corn in the country. The problem is, sugar cane is 7 times more efficient. Now if Obama is as intelligent as his supporters say he is, wouldn't it make more sense to use sugar cane versus corn? But we must remember that one of Obama's largest financial supporters produces ethanol with corn, they even allowed him to use their company jet, so will he make the intelligent choice and explore using sugar cane, the obvious educated choice or will he simply stick with the less cost effective choice of corn for producing ethanol to keep his large financial backers. We ubdecided independent voters will be watching, Politics as usual or Change We Can Believe In?

Obama has gotten away with every arrogant and smug thing so far.

This one really crossed the line.

They need to reign in their boastful mission accomplished stance.

Look how it backfired on Bush.

Obama = Bush.

Obama does NOT = HRC

McCain does NOT = Bush

Timber   June 23rd, 2008 4:29 pm ET

What a dumb mistake that was and a waste of money. He really does not have the experience or smarts to be President. Who would be so arrogant to place his own Presidential seal in front of his podium and try to psychologically have the country see him as the president?! He must think we are all sheep. God, this guy is scarier than GWB.

Bond_Dallas   June 23rd, 2008 4:29 pm ET

Thank goodness. That was the worst move I have seen from the Obama team this campaign season. It was such a bad taste for whomever designed it. I hope we don't ever see it again.

Still love the man though and I am glad he is not shaking about giving up Public financing. Staying with we the people instead of lobbyists is a great move.

I'm an Obama supporter but I didn't like the seal. Glad they took it out of circulation. Everything his campaign does or says comes under extreme scutiny anyway. No need to give THESE FOLKS anything more to throw at him. What I don't understand is that if has a seal - he's an elitist. He doesn't - he's unpatriotic. He leave the church - he's a sell out. He stays - he's racist. He plays by the rules and gets the nominee - he cheated. He loses the nominee - he wasn't qualified. He takes the public money - he going back on his word regarding lobbyist. He doesn't - it all about the money….
Listen, people this is a game of chess. Therefore the object is to get the KING, not worry about all the little pawns the other pieces. However, he IS trying to fix the quagmire that they ALL put themselves into. He's bringing the Queen, Sen Clinton, back on the board…So relax people and enjoy the game…

How smart? But, now we have a chance to stop be apart of killing American soldiers– get off the wagon and stop talking about stupid stuff.

Terry, Dallas Texas   June 23rd, 2008 4:19 pm ET

I sense a bit of frustration creeping in with the McCain supporters and Hillary supporters who say they will back McCain. They see the polls and the electorial map starting to swing blue and it's making them nuts. They know that barring some kind of scandal Obama will be elected in November and it just gnaws on their insides like an upset stomach. It reminds me of 1996 when the Republicans realized that there was no way to beat Bill Clinton and got very disheartened early on.

Iowa is going to flip and most likely Colorado and New Mexico as well. Now Obama is even starting to pull ahead in Virginia.

Sorry folks, he's got 270 and a little more.

Jon A   June 23rd, 2008 4:18 pm ET

I don't see why "eltism" is a reason for concern. First, here's a newsflash, not one presidential candiate (neither the current nominees nor the candiates they defeated) is hurting for cash. They're all multi-millionares, and wouldnt be caught dead hanging with the "common folk" unless there's a camera in front of them. So no matter what, theres always going to be a sense of eltism in who gets chosen….there also one of Bush's famous quotes " Some call you the elite, I call you my base"…how come no cried "elitist" on that?

Eli Winter   June 23rd, 2008 4:18 pm ET

I'll be as proud to vote for Barack Obama in November as I was in April; the seal was a minor early campaign slip-up. There's a natural difficulty in staying on the right side of the razor-thin line between confidence and egotism if one's staff are as committed to a candidate as they should be. T'aint a thing.

Jeff in Maryland   June 23rd, 2008 4:15 pm ET

It's a logo, people. If you let a logo shape your opinion even a little bit in either direction, you're letting something trivial get in the way of what really matters.

And for those who say Obama is arrogant (which I don't understand except MAYBE for this logo thing) Bill Clinton is one of the most arrogant, self centered people you'll ever meet, but he managed to balance the budget, give us a strong economy, give us peace, and leave office with one of the highest approval ratings ever. What does arrogance have to do with being a good president?

Vote on the issues, people.

Jason   June 23rd, 2008 4:15 pm ET

How is that possible, considering he will be gambling with our livliehoods and not just crappy graphics?

Anonymous   June 23rd, 2008 4:15 pm ET

Arrogance is when you are too proud to think that correcting a mistake isn't as important as "staying the course."

Please, please, let the "bitter" and uninformed (and racially motivated) Hillary supporters not vote for Obama; let them throw their votes at McCain and watch their dreams and hopes go down the drain!

These "bitter" voters should not be encouraged or begged to vote for Obama. For the educated and informed DEM, the primaries have always been about:
1. The party, not the candidate
2. The issues, not the candidate (gender, race or otherwise)
3. The White House, not the candidate

This is about winning the White House, gaining control to address issues of interest to DEMS, if people cannot see this as the goal, please let them vote for McCain! Let this nonsense and baby-talk stop!

The DNC can not control the vote in Nov.

That is what fixing a primary and selecting and installing the WRONG nominee leads to.

He destroyed the democratic party and will recklessly destroy the United States just for personal gain.

Cocky, boastful, arrogant, mocking, smug, jeering, self-impressed.

Just like Bush in his tone and character.

Welcome to the 24 hour a day Barack Obama info-mercial called CNN.

In all my years of observing network news, there has never been anything this pathetic. They have discarded even any attempt at objectivity to forward the cause of their once in a lifetime candidate.

Can Hillary still pull one out of her hat at the convention?

Dont Drink the Kool Aid !! Demand substance and elect experience you can trust. I may not agree with Mc Cain on every issue but at least I know he is qualified and ready to lead.

Hillary 2012.
