Clinton is appealing for help in paying of her debt in a new Web video.
Clinton is appealing for help in paying of her debt in a new Web video.

(CNN) — Her presidential bid may have ended two weeks ago, but Hillary Clinton is still on the hunt for campaign cash.

The New York Democrat is well over $20 million in debt, nearly half of which Clinton loaned herself personally earlier in the year when her campaign was virtually broke and faced life-or-death primary contests.

Watch: What went wrong for Clinton?

When it comes to recovering her personal loan, it's a race against the clock.

Under campaign finance laws spearhead by current presumptive Republican nominee John McCain, Clinton must pay herself back before the party's convention in late August, or else she is only allowed to receive $250,000.

Earlier: Clinton postpones debt repayment

In an e-mail to supporters earlier Monday afternoon, Clinton says she "has something I want to say," and directs readers to a Web video in which she says "Today, I still need your help."

Text next the video reads: “By helping us pay off our campaign debt, you’re not just helping Hillary elect a Democratic president and grow our majority in Congress. You’re making it possible for her to work as hard as she can on the issues we care about.”

Clinton also continued to praise onetime rival Barack Obama, saying she knows the Illinois senator shares the same goals as she.

The Obama campaign is reportedly open to helping Clinton raise money to pay off her lingering campaign debt, though no agreement has been announced yet. Under campaign finance laws, the Obama campaign is not allowed to retire Clinton's debt directly. (Cafferty: Should Obama help Clinton pay off her debt?)

The first comment reads "obama had better figure out a way to pay it." What a brat! Hillary got herself into her own debt, and *if* Obama helps her she should be thankful!!!

Truth B Told   June 23rd, 2008 9:23 pm ET

People in Ohio are on food lines and Mrs. Clinton needs help??? LOL What a joke!!! The Clinton's still have 80 MILLION in the bank!!! Hey Bill time to bring home the Beacon AGAIN!!!! Welcome to the Big Leagues Mrs. Clinton! This is a small taste of what THE PEOPLE go thru every day in this country! You will be ok GOOD LUCK

Becky   June 23rd, 2008 9:22 pm ET

I'm glad she's backing Barack Obama. But I have to mention that her not being able to run a successful campaign financially is another reason by Hillary is not the nominee, when the #1 issue in the general election is the economy right now. And McCain recently said that he knows nothing about economics!?!?!

However, if Hillary was the nominee I'd be voting for her in November because there's *no way* I'd vote for McCain! Are you kidding me?? He wants to continue to give the rich and big corporations tax breaks. And yet the republicans are afraid of being taxed more. Well, have the republicans say they'll stop giving tax breaks to the rich, then. That'd be a start.

Bob   June 23rd, 2008 9:22 pm ET

GOOD FOR HER!!!
It's just more of the same with her…will not listen to anybody, just does what she wants even when there is no hope. She does the same in office…no matter what the people say she does it HER way, after all…SHE KNOWS WHAT'S GOOD FOR YOU BETTER THAN YOU DO, RIGHT? Obviously she didn't learn a lesson from her so-called failed "health plan". It was such a mess it didn't even get off the ground but she wouldn't admit she was done there either! She needs to go away for good…her AND Bill, lying, thieving SOB's, BOTH of them.

Kathi G.   June 23rd, 2008 9:22 pm ET

her supporters would have no problem helping to pay it off, if it didn't benefit obama.

Sam   June 23rd, 2008 9:22 pm ET

She thought she could just BUY the Presidency….wow was she wrong. Now it's pleeeeez, Mr. Obama. buy me off.

What a pair of losers.

Bill   June 23rd, 2008 9:21 pm ET

HaHaaaaa…. Was'nt she buring money in Soth Dakota, Montana and Puerto Riko?

oil rules   June 23rd, 2008 9:21 pm ET

If she OWES that much, I guess a lot of ad agencies and TV stations are going to get left holding the bag, so to speak. And if Nobama's camp can not help 'directly', does that mean there is some back door way to help circumventing the intent of the rule? Sounds typical to me, I thought she said he was unqualified anyway, why is she backing him now? She lied before or she is lying now, you make the choice.

Gerry M   June 23rd, 2008 9:21 pm ET

I think that Senator Obama will help Senator Clinton retire her campaign debt as a way to soften the blow of her loosing the primary and to enlist the help of the Clinton supporters that he will need in November. Senator Obama seems to have hit upon a means of generating considerable amounts of campaign cash. I think he will share some of it with Senator Clinton and thereby heal the Democratic Party in preparation for the November winner take all Electoral College election.

Yvette, Austin, Texas   June 23rd, 2008 9:21 pm ET

Excuse me! Why are we being asked to pay HER DEBT?? We are all responsible for paying for the debts we incurred. Again, excuse me, do not understand why she isn't doing the same. What happened to the 18 million who supported her? If she won't accept responsibilty, it seems those people should help her out. While I do feel very sorry for the small vendors that she still owes payment, I didn't support her. And, I really am not in favor of paying for expenses that she irresponsibily incurred.

Ken Curry   June 23rd, 2008 9:21 pm ET

I used to vote Republican, but now I support Barack Obama. I've see the ill-fated and misguided deceptions from within the Republican party and I can tell you that America cannot afford A 3rdBush term by giving McBush executive reign. I'll vote for Obama, although I'd vote for Bob Barr if I really thought he could win.

As for Hillary, I would NEVER vote for you, but my check is in the mail to you for your debts.

One ex-Navy man for Obama………Be a patriot stand up to John McBush and avoid a Middle-east fire ball !!!!!!!!!

John   June 23rd, 2008 9:21 pm ET

Unlike most Americans, Hillary Clinton can actually afford to put out $20 million and not come anywhere close to going into debt.

The average American is IN DEBT. And she wants to use OUR money to bail HER out?

Excuse me, but this seems ethically questionable. She took the risk, with her own money, and it didn't pan out. She can afford it, ALL of it.

PS for all you dems still whining about the DNC's decisions in Florida and Michigan: Had Hillary recieved ALL of the delegates and Obama none, he still would have had more. Are you forgetting that Hillary herself SIGNED an agreement that the delegates would not count–AT ALL?! She only changed her position when it was to her advantage. Had it been Obama needing those delegates, you can bet she would have been arguing for their exclusion.

Let's leave our bitterness, and quit digging in the graveyard of the past. Move on already!!

Jeff - South Bend IN   June 23rd, 2008 9:20 pm ET

She dumped that $12million into her campaign after she was down pretty big to Obama. What did she think would happen to it? The Clinton's have made $109million in 8 years since leaving the White House - hard to have sympathy for them.

Link   June 23rd, 2008 9:20 pm ET

Wow… 20 million? That money can go to better use than to Hildog…

Tammy - KCMO   June 23rd, 2008 9:18 pm ET

I have a hard time feeling sorry for someone that didn't know when to quit before she got this far into debt. I have no problem with the party helping pay off her debts except for the monies she personally loaned to her campaign to continue a lost cause. She should have managed her campaign and finances better.
I don't know if the people that continue posting on here in support of Hillary are actual supporters or Republicans out to cause a division in the Democratic party, but if you are supporters of Hillary then you should be helping her out.

Grace   June 23rd, 2008 9:18 pm ET

I am under the impression that we each create debt and are responsible for same. I do not understand the concept that running for a political office entitles you to FREE money.
If you can't do the time, don't do the crime……

Double HAHAHA!

Teresa, Georgia   June 23rd, 2008 9:18 pm ET

Towards the end, Hillary knew she was in debt but she loaned her campaign money to continue the race and, she kept spending as if there was no tommorrow. Where was her plan "B"? In today's poor economy, how can she ask for help when we can barely manage to make ends meet ourselves?

Judy   June 23rd, 2008 9:17 pm ET

Wow! - Clinton needs money to pay her bills. Maybe now she knows what the rest of American families are going through. I doubt it though.

Closely Watching   June 23rd, 2008 9:17 pm ET

Well said Biff~by all means, where are all the PUMAS and HRC "boo hoo hoo our candidate got blackballed by the DNC and we are still 100% behind you girl!" supporters when the multi-millionaire ex-candidate needs their MONEY to help her out of debt?

If this does not open the eyes of you Hillary supporters as to what kind of person you are still lamenting for, then I for one would rather that you either stay home or vote for McCain come Election Day because you are not in touch with reality~

Obama '08~real change we can believe in.

cb01420   June 23rd, 2008 9:17 pm ET

What the heck is she thinking. Why should the American people give her money just to get herself clear of debt. She choose to risk her money in a risky venture. America this is worst than the CEO of Enron stealing from Enron's Employees. Hillary go back to NY and stay. You will not get one penny from this American

a voter in New York   June 23rd, 2008 9:16 pm ET

I wouldn't give her a dime even with todays inflation making it worth less than a penny.
She put the money in her campaign herself. She lost PERIOD.

This is typical Clinton. She couldn't manage her campaign finances, screwed everyone that she contracted with for their money, now she looks to us to help her.

Just imagine what she would have done if elected and how fast she would have burned through taxpayer money and then who would bail us out?

Jake   June 23rd, 2008 9:14 pm ET

You've got to be kidding! Hillary wants America to pay for her stupidity? I think it's time she met reality. It's time she starts loosing a few nights sleep worrying if she's going to be able to make the mortgage payment, put food on the plates, and pay the credit cards.

Maybe she can auction off some of her pants suits or rent out some rooms in her mansion.

Smith - Asheville, NC   June 23rd, 2008 9:14 pm ET

I'm willing to help a little with her debt even though I'm an Obama supporter. She took a gamble and lost, and I can respect that. What I can't respect are these Hillary supporters saying they were cheated. She lost fair and square. They knew the rules about Michigan and Florida when they started. If you choose to let a Republican win (either out of not voting or voting for) who is anti-abortion and will stack the supreme court to overthrow Roe vs Wade, then that's your choice. A poor one, but you are free to do that.

JC   June 23rd, 2008 9:14 pm ET

If I have to put in some money to keep here out of the news from begging for money, I will. Why is a rich woman begging for money anyway.

Barack was elected by our votes. Any Hillary supporter who says it was stolen is stupid. More Votes, More Delegates, And More States. Which part of the win are you guys (mostly women) not seeing?

Relax, Hillary paved the way for women to get further. There will be another woman. Just a better one than her.

Josh   June 23rd, 2008 9:13 pm ET

She should have stopped the race right after her loss in North Carolina. Her colleagues, friends and others had also advised her to quit but she was not willing to listen. Her poor judgement didn't allow her to forsee the consequence. She needs to deal with it.

RosaCA   June 23rd, 2008 9:13 pm ET

To Obama underhanded… you are really a sick person. Hillary KNEW how much she was spending and chose to ignore the eventuality.

luis   June 23rd, 2008 9:11 pm ET

So the message from her is "I did not win so I want my money back"

like a friend of mine said "she is greedy not only with the elections but with this too" people gave enough to help her go thru all this process, did not winn and now wants more money from americans that are struggling, with lost of jobs, economy so bad, low salaries, what else she wants from us our homes too. enough is enough

Righteous Metal Broad   June 23rd, 2008 9:10 pm ET

My goodness, she looks like she's lost weight, and not the good way either.

I see no reason why Obama should pay off her debts for her. I am sure, if the tables were turned and Obama lost the nomination and was in debt, no one would bat an eye in his direction.

If you run for president, you should be responsible enough to clean up your own mess.

It would be nice if Obama helped her raise money, but no one should demand that he foot the bill. Is is not his responsibility.

Susan J   June 23rd, 2008 9:09 pm ET

The fact is that Hillary ran a very fiscally irresponsible and disorganized campaign. That's why she lost! She was deep in debt by the time she bowed out of the race. If that's the way she's going to run our government, then she's not fit to be President.

Jack   June 23rd, 2008 9:09 pm ET

Are you kidding me? With Hillary and Bill still living the high life. Let ol' Slick Willy pay for her debt.

Pete   June 23rd, 2008 9:07 pm ET

O.K. Clinton supporters put your money where your mouth is. Instead of Obama hating help your girl pay her debt…NOW!

K of TX   June 23rd, 2008 9:06 pm ET

I hope she can retire her debt soon. I believe her to be a better politician than her campaign framed her.

Sam69   June 23rd, 2008 9:06 pm ET

If all the 18 million crack drop 1.5dollars then her problem will be over.

Chris   June 23rd, 2008 9:05 pm ET

I'm an Obama supporter that appreciated her run…

however I believe the law shouldn't allow candidates to go into debt. It doesn't hurt them, it hurts the vendors that supplied them during the primary - which now "might" be paid by insurance companies "if" they're insured - thus our high insurance rates everywhere because or irresponsible spending =/

I

Cody S. - Montgomery, AL   June 23rd, 2008 9:05 pm ET

How about, no way?

You are the one that spent beyond your means.

You are the one that remained in a race when all signs were pointing in Obama's favor.

Why not just write this off as a bad trip to Vegas and get back to the Senate and do the job you were elected to do?

What a slap in the face! I rent an apartment and am struggling to save for my far-distant retirement, and you want me to chip in and help you (a multimillionaire) pay off a campaign debt that you created?

The nerve.

Cathy in MD   June 23rd, 2008 9:04 pm ET

Do what you must, Hillary. Just don't touch my donations to the Obama campaign.

Dave V.   June 23rd, 2008 9:03 pm ET

As a former professional in the lecture industry I know that Bill commands up $125k per speaking engagement. Hillary being the 1st woman to stand a chance for presidency could possibly get a similar retainer. Plus the contract for the book and other perks the point hear is that Hillary shouldn't have much problem paying off the campaign tab. Are her supporters responsible for the costs? Hardly.

IG   June 23rd, 2008 9:02 pm ET

When it was essentially impossible for her to get the votes needed for nomination, she continued to spend money instead of gracefully bowing out. This critically fractured the democratic party and may result in the loss of the most sure-thing election in decades. Now, she wants me, or her opponent to pay off the debt she accrued while selfishly doing all of this damage. Am I missing something?

frank   June 23rd, 2008 9:02 pm ET

Hillary, paid your old debt. How about our debt, morgate,pg&e, phone bill, car bill , credit card bill for each individual one like US who can help to paid? That why you are not COMMAND In Chief. Be grow up

john   June 23rd, 2008 9:02 pm ET

boo hoo , woe is me, poor pitiful me,when will i be loved. Give me a frigging break. I am sure she is struggling with her gas and food bills. I am sure she is wonering how she is going to be able to afford medical care. Makes me want to PUKE !!

DAN   June 23rd, 2008 9:02 pm ET

Hilary should just run as an independent, she would have alot of cash contributions from new and old supporters. If there was ever a time for a serious real third party it's now. Common Hillary !

Fact check   June 23rd, 2008 9:01 pm ET

All Hillary supports against Obama because of Florida and Michigan need a fact check.

Hillary Clinton LIED about Florida and Michigan. First she was all for punishing the states for breaking established party rules, said she'd take herself off the ballot in Michigan (as every other candidate did, Obama included) and then did the exact opposite. No surprise there, but these Hillary supporters complaining about DNC injustice are absolutely ridiculous and deluded. Hillary is on record denouncing Florida and Michigan, then she campaigned there and fought to have her votes count. She's a liar plain and simple about this issue and others (Bosnia, anyone?). How can anyone support her?

Nowhere Man   June 23rd, 2008 9:01 pm ET

Have Bill put a call into Dubai. They're always stupid enough to give him money. They've earned over $100M since leaving office, and now are groveling for help. Romney blew about $30-50M on his campaign and sucked it up, and ate it. The Clintons are a truly pathetic couple.

Cartney, GA   June 23rd, 2008 9:00 pm ET

Fiscal responsibility is critical for a Commander-in-Chief, especially with the current economic condition of the country. For those few Hillary supporters who cannot seem to get over their candidate losing, remember that the issues. Being a democrat is about more that a candidate, it is about issues and a set of beliefs. It is disturbing that people would follow a person instead of thinking independently and voting their interests. Money is not a large concern for me, but for the majority of democrats it is and Obama is simply the best choice when one thinks rationally like an adult and evaluates the issues.

DFoster Georgia   June 23rd, 2008 9:00 pm ET

I am and always have been an Obama supporter. With that said, I just don't understand the attitudes of these HRC supporters. Your candidate cared enough about you to spend her own money and keep campaining FOR YOU!! You all asked her to keep going, urging her to keep up the good fight. That fight ain't free folks!! She had to come out of her pocket because you wouldn't donate to her campain. And now you refuse to help her … WOW!!!

Homeless Need Help, not the Clintons   June 23rd, 2008 8:57 pm ET

I don't feel that someone who spends more then they have should be bailed out. Especially someone as rich at the Clintons with the ability to make many millions (how about a 100 million) over the next few years. No Hillary, you over spent, which goes to show how you would have governed. Just like my neighbor who is losing his house because he remortaged one time too many to buy excessive toys. He hasn't lost his job, he simply spent way too much than he is taking in. I don't feel sorry for either.

What a pathetic plea. Very sad Hillary….but no, I am not going to send you a check. Suck it up, don't eat out as much. Like the rest of us have to do.

Kelley   June 23rd, 2008 8:56 pm ET

As a campaigner for Obama I am sending my weekly 10.00 donation to Sen Clinton. She is a supporter of the Democratic party . She was not the nominee I wanted but I respect her as a politician. This isn't much but I hope it helps

lol   June 23rd, 2008 8:56 pm ET

people who spend money on her is an idiot

George Welch   June 23rd, 2008 8:55 pm ET

Let her pay off her own bills. Where was her "value added" in becoming a multi- millionaire on a Senators salary in the first place? I can't believe she thinks hard working Americans should return her 11 mil to her bank account. And probably with interest.

Juanita   June 23rd, 2008 8:54 pm ET

Seems to me that all her die-hard supporters are not so die-hard after all. If they believed in her so much, surely she'd be out of debt by now? Oh….but of course, that would mean 'truly' supporting her, not just with lip service, but with their pocketbooks…clearly that's just a little to much to ask.

JOYCE   June 23rd, 2008 8:53 pm ET

come on people
lets show her how we obama supporters are good sportsmanship
and care for other people
lets all help her so she can help obama. they ned to help each other. so to help her is to help him. lets out do her so called supporters
give ,give give

Allen from Illinois   June 23rd, 2008 8:53 pm ET

An emphatic NO!

matt   June 23rd, 2008 8:52 pm ET

She forced obama to drain his war chest by prolonging the primary after she lost. She deserves to be in debt.

Rick   June 23rd, 2008 8:51 pm ET

She should learn the hard way what many others are going through. Spend within your means. I can't believe people will actually be suckered into giving the $109 million woman money. With this type of fiscal management, it's a good thing she blew a sure thing.

Bob Stephens   June 23rd, 2008 8:50 pm ET

Hey Hillary, do what the Republicans do. Just have the Fed print up some worthless money and stick it in your bank account. That is how they have been running our government for the last 7+ years.

Jason   June 23rd, 2008 8:50 pm ET

I have no ill will toward Hillary, but I strongly believe that the portion of the debt that consists of loans from her and Bill's own personal fortune ought to be their loss to take and shouldn't be recouped by the voters. It was her decision to run for President and her decision to pour that much of her own money into her campaign. It's not as if all the people out there who donated to a losing campaign are getting THEIR money back, so why should she get the money back that she herself poured into her own campaign?

thomas edision   June 23rd, 2008 8:49 pm ET

you arragont bity i supported you and now your asking for americans to help you get out of debt. Mcain is looking better every day.

Bernard Profitendieu   June 23rd, 2008 8:49 pm ET

she lent her money to a bad credit risk - herself!, she should suffer the consequences

…(and she'll still have $80 million left over, so I'm not going to cry, yet)

say "NO" to HIllary's money grab!!

Joyce   June 23rd, 2008 8:49 pm ET

I think she should just suck it in and take her losses, she and Bill can always write another book, make speeches and in no time at all they will pay themselves off. Most folks have enough trouble buying gas for their cars and food for their children, we shouldn't have to worry about the Clinton's and their debts.

Republican for Obama   June 23rd, 2008 8:46 pm ET

I tend to agree though, she stupidly spent money on a campaign long after the experts had identified her loss (3 months prior to her finally 'getting it').
She is worth over $100 million and made the absolute moronic decision to keep on spending despite her inevitable defeat. She should pay it, and just consider it a 'stupidity tax'.

Obama '08

Suzie   June 23rd, 2008 8:46 pm ET

I still can't believe that Clinton has convinced so many people in this country that she is even capable of running a Wendy's, much less one of the most powerful nations on the planet. At least we're realizing this after she lost the Democratic bid. As for the $20 million, is she seriously asking the same people that already donated to her campaign to donate again because she drove herself into the ground by staying too long at the party? I hope I'm not the only one out there that recognizes this.

ace   June 23rd, 2008 8:46 pm ET

sad Clinton supporters still feeling the pain from her lost! Obama dont need your support to win. Hillary needs to pay her own debt. She made it! You guys are sore losers, lmao! get over it because the race is over losers

Ken   June 23rd, 2008 8:45 pm ET

This is very sad, Just imagine having to swallow that lump of pride in her throat; to have to run a national ad to help her die hard fans and loyal folowers to help out with something she has.The money. For Obama the guy she threw the kitchen sink at; her campaign ran Obama's a muslim propaganda is helping her with her debt, but not her HRC we vote MCCain, So when I hear that a proud democrat is not going to support Obama;;; I cringe. Stop being so selfish and give your runner-up so money.

Va Voter   June 23rd, 2008 8:44 pm ET

Face it. She's a multimillionaire Senator (is there any other kind ?) who financed her campaign out of her own pocket, and now wants the "little people" to pay because she had too much pride to quit when it was obvious the race was lost. The Clinton's still have millions, which I doubt most of the poor, flooded folks in the midwest do - I'd rather see my money go to them. As for her being "robbed" of the nomination - the rules the party has were largely pushed thru BY the Clintons, FOR her benefit. That it just so happened that someone played the game better is just too rich. We've had enough of Clinton's and Bushes for the next 100 years.

Brad, SC   June 23rd, 2008 8:44 pm ET

SHE lent HERSELF money, and is asking ME to help HER pay it back? That can't be right?

Its on my list, Hil.

1. Buy Gas to get to Work
2. Pay off my Mortgage
3. Buy food to put on the table

Anonymous   June 23rd, 2008 8:43 pm ET

She should have done what every other candidate that runs out of money and is far behind in a race does: quit with some dignity.

Paula M.   June 23rd, 2008 8:43 pm ET

I am a Obama contributor. It would not have been hard for me to understand Obama helping Clinton pay off her debt but for the extremely negative campaign she conducted against Obama. So many of the negative remarks by her, such as implying that Obama is not ready to be President, fanning the flames about Rev. Wright, and having the scary 3:00am call plus putting Osama Bin Laden in another negative add against Obama gives me pause. I don't think it is appropriate for Obama to help her out with his contributions from 1,500,000 donors. He is, now, having to deal with the backlash of all those negative ads because they added fuel to the fire for McCain. Obama is having to spend extra money to offset these ads during the general campaign. Clinton might have to file for bankruptcy or take a loan out from Bill's library fund.

rich   June 23rd, 2008 8:42 pm ET

One can argue Hillary knew that her chances of getting the nomination was slim to none as way back as March of 2008, yet she still spent money like a drunken sailor. I say let her dig into her and Bills 109 million stach. Many of us are hurting finacially under the Bush economy. I say Hillary, suck it up. You can afford it. The majority of us can't.

Vig   June 23rd, 2008 8:41 pm ET

And she will get it! I will be contributing tonight and again if she needs it. I will be writing in Hillary Clinton's name as my choice on the November ballot and so can everyone else and it will be counted. Let's get those 18 million voters to write in her name - Hillary for President - we need a backbone in the White House. Hail Hillary!!!

Ilene MI   June 23rd, 2008 8:41 pm ET

Her supporters need to put out. We have listened to their mouths all these months and read their nasty posts. Hey Hillary people. Your girls wants your money!!!! She wouldn't be in debt if you paid for everytime you opened up your mouth. Pay up!!!!

4 THE CONSTITUTION   June 23rd, 2008 8:41 pm ET

When her "supporters" that are a pact agaisnt Obama maybe the real supporters of Hillary (ones now supporting Obama as she requested) will feel like helping her -it would help if her husband would get over himself, too. If they don't help the party win - we shouldn't help them.

Keith in CA   June 23rd, 2008 8:40 pm ET

Thousands have lost their homes due to flooding, millions are out of work with layoffs occurring almost daily, home forclosures, rising food costs, gas at over four dollars a gallon… For some reason, I just can't feel sympathy for a multi millionaire trying to recoup her losses. It would be like giving money to a losing gambler in Vegas. Maybe little Johnny Whatshisname in Kentucky has another bicycle and some more video games he can sell. I'll fax her a tissue.

ACFX   June 23rd, 2008 8:40 pm ET

She borrowed recklesslessly when everyone, including her, knew she could not win the delegate count.
Now she has the nerve to ask us to bail her out?
All I know is when the rest of us borrow money, we have to pay it back ourselves - so should she!

Thee, Los Angeles   June 23rd, 2008 8:39 pm ET

Hahaha…I can't believe she's begging for money. She needs to get a cardboard and scribble the words…"Hungry, will work for food!".

I'm still amazed how HRC supporters are still crying on these posts. First of, we don't care if you vote for Obama or not. We don't need any of you bitter Americans, who cling to their guns and religions. Go ahead and vote McSame for all I care.

I will donate again to her campaign.

Austin, TX   June 23rd, 2008 8:37 pm ET

If she ended her campaign when she should have, maybe she wouldn't be in debt right now?

Anonymous   June 23rd, 2008 8:37 pm ET

I believe if someone can't control their own personal debt. How is a person to manage USA's money if they can't complete their own debt.

chnyock   June 23rd, 2008 8:37 pm ET

way to go girl!
clinton can simply raise her speaking fee and write a new book how the election was stolen from her and she'll have a windfall

libertad   June 23rd, 2008 8:36 pm ET

We should help her pay off her campaign debts. She could have kept her campaign going into the convention, throwing the party into disarray in the process. Instead, she has fully endorsed Obama and is willing to work to help him get elected. Plus, the long primary has in fact only strengthened our candidate and his organization. Hillary is a strong leader who will continue to work toward improving our country, and she continues to deserve our support and respect.

John Smith   June 23rd, 2008 8:36 pm ET

If ONLY she had listened and dropped out when she was told to do so!! Well, let those "bitter" supporters who were urging Hillary to keep running stand up and help her pay off these bills; they are part of that failure! They claim to have the solutions; now, there you have it!

Indeed, I did support Hillary early in the process, but I was realistic enough to listen and move my support when it was "clear" that the "math" was against her.

Let those who pushed Hillary and her EGO to go blowing tons and tons of money on a loosing cause help her out now!

li   June 23rd, 2008 8:35 pm ET

Even she no nomination and living in mansion ,She have 100 millions more dollar and still pushing poor peoples to pay her, she so selfish,to many dumb suckers around her

Pepou   June 23rd, 2008 8:35 pm ET

To "To clarify" : For God's sake, I am sick and tired of hearing the endless tirade of 'Obama stole the election, he is not worth it, etc … Fine. Vote for McCain if you wish but don't ask Obama supporters for help in covering Hillary's debt. Why don't YOU send her $$$ ? Obama's votes are not for sale.

To" to clarify"   June 23rd, 2008 8:34 pm ET

"to clarify"

Honestly there is no need to clarify anything. We no longer CARE OK??? The reality is we no longer even talk about it anymore. We have moved on. I for one used to get worked up about this but after I heard a 8 year old child say how childish it all sounded it snapped me back to reality. Stop whineing, stop yelling at the Sunrise…it WILL rise anyway. It just makes you look….well….Kind of nuts.

That is all.

functor   June 23rd, 2008 8:33 pm ET

Those 18 million sore losers may vote for McCain. But they better drop a penny in her pocket before Election day.

bill in pa   June 23rd, 2008 8:33 pm ET

Can you imagine the increased debt this country would have if she won? She needs a tin cup and a street corner.

Lee - NC   June 23rd, 2008 8:32 pm ET

Really too funny… Maybe Obama could pay hillary a comission on every HRC diehard that she converts to the real Deomocratic Presidential Candidate. Quid pro quo. Otherwise, maybe hillary should contact one of those TV ads - that promise to have you debt free in 36 months (?)

Sheri   June 23rd, 2008 8:32 pm ET

Why did Hillary do this to herself? Why did she get in debt? She should have had plan B when she lost all those SUPER TUESDAYS. A very poorly run campaign that lost 11 states in a row. WHO should pay her debt? Surely not us supporters. She should have dropped out of the campaign long before this debt ever took place. Hillary made her own debt and should be responsible to pay it.

Patty   June 23rd, 2008 8:32 pm ET

She is responsible for her own debt, you play you pay!

Janyouerry   June 23rd, 2008 8:32 pm ET

My preferences in the recent Democrat primary notwithstanding, how could ANYONE who proposed to run this country not be able to manage her own campaign expenditures? She's a great lady and
an inspiring politician, but her campaign management skills were
frightening. Having said that, I do think Obama should help her retire
this debt….which can be attributed as much to ego as to her listening to people who could count neither dollars nor delegates. Still love her!

Paige, NC   June 23rd, 2008 8:32 pm ET

You know as Clinton repeatedly had major debt problems throughtout this primary, I thought to myself, 'Is this how she would run our country?'. She ran a poorly organized campaign and no candidate that has ever campaigned in a primary has had this kind of debt at the end of the primary. And, if she had 18 million voters, why didn't you all contribute to her campaign? Why aren't you now? Hmm…

And, for all of you that are pro-Hillary, then get behind her and donate and stop whining and complaining. This was her election to lose and she did it! But regardless, if you stand behind her then donate to her web-site.

Clemson 4 Obama   June 23rd, 2008 8:31 pm ET

Like Jack said his name is Barrack Obama not Bank of America where are the Puma people, where are the 18 million cracks in the ceiling, if 18 million of her voters at least go a dollar a piece she will be half way there I didn't vote for her but I will be glad to give her my 2 quaters and 10 dimes, I did not like the way she painted Obama as being unelected my mom always said you don't bite the hand of someone that may have to feed you, Obama supporters get that money you saved for that gas tax holiday and help Hillary.

If the arrogant, obfuscating user and extreme left-wing Obama wants to unite his party, he will retire Hillary's debt!

I won't hold my breath! It all depends on how much is in it for him! :(

Barack 2008!!   June 23rd, 2008 8:30 pm ET

LOLOLOLOL. She should've done a better job managing her finances. She spent money she didn't have only because she couldn't fathom the idea of losing to a Black man, now she wants average Americans to help pay her debt? Are you kidding me? Shame on us for even considering putting this imbecile in the White House.

IndependentGA   June 23rd, 2008 8:30 pm ET

I think its insane. It's her fault. When she lost those 11 contest in a row, she should have gotten out of the race. If Obama had lost 11 straight, he would have ben forced out. But that's not the issue. Hillary should have dropped out. But she kept going, on and on. dividing the Democratic Party. Now she she wants the American people to bail her out. FOrget it! I could carelesss. I supported Huckabee. He lost so I guess I'll vote for myself.

Mcshame   June 23rd, 2008 8:30 pm ET

"Text next the video reads: “By helping us pay off our campaign debt, you’re not just helping Hillary elect a Democratic president and grow our majority in Congress. You’re making it possible for her to work as hard as she can on the issues we care about.”

Is she saying that she won't work hard if the Obama does not pay her debt???

Alvaro Aguirre, KS   June 23rd, 2008 8:29 pm ET

I hope everybody goes to http://www.hillaryclinton.com and contribute to help her to pay off debt and for party unity as well. I used to be a hard-die Clinton supporter, but now I am on the Obama side. Let help Clinton to pay her debt off and move on with the Obama campaign. I am sure Hillary will campaing as hard as she can for Obama in places like Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Florida. And many other states more in order to help elect Barack Obama to the presidency. Go Hillary, Go Obama…

Eric   June 23rd, 2008 8:29 pm ET

Am I missing something or did Sen. Clinton and her husband make $106 million in the last six years . . . . She stayed in the race–and ran up this deficit–long after anyone objective knew that she could not win.

alex123   June 23rd, 2008 8:28 pm ET

It appears Mrs Clinton still has plenty of supporters. Let them pay her debts. But first to all the companies who misguidedly supplied goods and services in the belief that they were dealing with a woman of integrity. Only when they are all paid should she start raking back her twelve mill.

PJA   June 23rd, 2008 8:28 pm ET

Whine, whine, whine…………Hillary, are you running a litlle short on you checking account. Join the club!!
Maybe Bill could quickly write another book and send the proceeds to your account.

Chut Pata   June 23rd, 2008 8:28 pm ET

Obama supporters, primary session is over, please get over the primary mindset. Dont get angry on the messages of pubs pretending to be Hillary supporters and send in your $5 or $10. Let her know you are an Obama supporter and appreciate her support for Obama.

Obama '08, '12

John   June 23rd, 2008 8:27 pm ET

Did you read the last sentence in the article "underhanded?" Obama can not directly pay off her debt. Besides, is it his fault she loaned $10 million to the campaign? Did he win the primary unfairly? Get a life and hair's length of intellect.

Cheri   June 23rd, 2008 8:26 pm ET

And now the rich are asking the middle income to help bail them out? And this with the economy and the housing market the way it is now - where is our "bail out?" Give me a break! Maybe she should abide by the simple rule of economics - if you don't have it, don't spend it. It was your decision to "loan" your failing campaign money. If you couldn't afford to "lend" it, then you shouldn't have done it. It is your responsibility to take care of this not the citizens. Plan your budget more wisely next time. Makes you wonder if she really is a wise choice for President - if she can't balance her campaing budget, how much worse off will we be with her in the White House?

Tony   June 23rd, 2008 8:26 pm ET

AHAHAHAHAHAHA! I love it. Hillary supporters are ignorant enough to follow her every word (except when she told her people to begin supporting Obama, oddly enough), but also cheap enough to not help her get out of her debt. I guess it's par for the course for a stubborn Clinton homer.

george   June 23rd, 2008 8:26 pm ET

If Hillary is left hanging on this debt - then I'm voting for McCain!

Obama is so confident of his fund raising capabilities that he's forsaken public financing - a method that was once a Democratic Party ideal!

This is a true test of "Unity". I contributed a lot to Hillary because she is a Democratic standard bearer; if Obama doesn't help now then I'm going "over the wall".

Hamburgler   June 23rd, 2008 8:26 pm ET

So, let me get this straight. She wanted to run the country with the economy the number one issue? Thank God Obama won the nom. If she cannot manage her campaign funds, who in their right mind would think she could have managed the national budget? Oh, I forgot, Hillary has experience. pfffft

Winthorp   June 23rd, 2008 8:25 pm ET

Yep. Obama needs Hilary more then she needs him. Do those words sound familiar. (snicker, chuckle)

Obama/ Clark 08

NickNas   June 23rd, 2008 8:25 pm ET

I may be wrong and I am not trying to be harsh but Hillary SPENT that money. She Directed its use and she ALONE decided to to stay in the Race as long as she did. She was Driven by ambition to the point of " Loaning" herself MILLIONS in the persuit of her goals.

So Explain to me please Just how is that different from the rest of us common slugs who have to pay OUR Bills even though we may make a bad decision from time to time?

Sketcher1   June 23rd, 2008 8:25 pm ET

As long as we are on the subject of paying back debt, I feel our government, which is out spending money on all sorts of extravagant items, should retire all of the debts of the American people. Basically, if the government can spend relentlessly and not have to pay it back, then neither the American people should have to pay back their debts.

Ben   June 23rd, 2008 8:24 pm ET

She went into debt to attack her parties nominee. Why would I help her pay it off? That's just rewarding bad behavoir.

Tjaye in LA   June 23rd, 2008 8:24 pm ET

Is there anyone who still doesn't believe she has an inflated sense of entitlement?

And apparently so do her supporters.

obama=underhanded liar … YOU chose to support a woman who could not manage her budget and now YOU think Obama OWES her and you?? The only check YOU deserve is a Reality Check!

MichelleSF   June 23rd, 2008 8:24 pm ET

Talk about "RUNNING ON EMPTY!"

DM, Arlington TX   June 23rd, 2008 8:23 pm ET

I think that Hillary Clinton is a good women however I will start contributing to help her retire her debt once Bill Clinton campaign for Obama..

He must take back his fairy tell comment..

Once that is done I will really enjoy giving her money..

A Latte Lover, Seattle, WA   June 23rd, 2008 8:21 pm ET

NO!! She should have dropped out earlier when there was no chance that she could win. She was already in debt at that point, and just went further in debt, (yes, a crapshoot) and further divided the party. LET THE PUMA PEOPLE PAY OFF THE DEBT. Why should I send $$ to someone worth over 100 million. I'm hurting like everyone else, and if I have extra $$ it will go to Senator Obama. Actually, I just sent some on Saturday.

Still Hill Struck???   June 23rd, 2008 8:20 pm ET

Hey…Where are those 18 Milion crybabies who won't vote for Obama….unless he does this, does that, give Hill his money. Stop Your Whining!!!! If you really are committed to Hillary Clinton - put your money where your mouth is. Only an idiot would spend money they don't have….and you want someone like that running our economy??? Grow up and get a Clue.

Bill Brown (Dallas, TX)   June 23rd, 2008 8:19 pm ET

What utterly brazen arrogance this clown shows. She and her husband are the most contemptible politicians in American history. First, Bill set up a 'legal defense fund' so the American people could help him out with his legal bills (never mind that he now makes over $100 million a year).

Now, a woman who told us she was the 'most experienced' person for the job and who couldn't even run a debt free campaign for the nomination (imagine what damage she could do to the federal budget deficit)….has the audacity to ask for money and apply it to her ability to 'fight' for us?

Give US a break, Hill-billy.

jane   June 23rd, 2008 8:19 pm ET

I BELIEVE OBAMA SHOULD HELP PAY OFF HILLARY'S DEBT IF HE WANTS HER TO CAMPAIGN FOR HIM THERE IS NO REASON HE SHOULD GET A FREE RIDE WITH HER TRYING TO GET HER SUPPORTERS TO VOTE FOR HIM THAT IS NOT GOING TO BE AN EASY TASK . IF HE DOESN'T HELP HER THAN I THINK EACH OF HER 18,000,000 SHOULD DONATE $10 FOR HER TO RUN AS AN INDEPENDENT. I PERSONALLY HAVE VERY LITTLE MONEY BUT IF SHE DID RUN I WOULD FIND THE MONEY TO SUPPORT HER AS I DID FOR THE PRIMARY. OBAMA LEAD PEOPLE TO BELIEVE HE WAS CONSIDERING HILLARY FOR VP JUST TO GET THEM TO DONATE AND SUPPORT HIM. THAT IS ANOTHER BOLD FACE LIE

Jen   June 23rd, 2008 8:18 pm ET

Thing is Democrat or Republican, I am voting for Obama… but she shouldnt have borrowed that much from herself on a failed campaign. We all knew she didnt have a snowball chance in hell after the first 5 Mil she loaned herself she should have stopped there. That was just plain stupid and it was her personal money (not like she is hurting)

noemi of reason   June 23rd, 2008 8:18 pm ET

Hillary looks really bad in this pic. I do feel bad for her and her dreams of being President. I am an entire Obama supporter and I would never turn my back at a fellow Democrats. I am donating to the Clinton camp as much as I have donated to Obama so far: $350.

Democrats Unite.

AdamW   June 23rd, 2008 8:18 pm ET

She wanted to run the country but couldn't even manage her campaign financially. A president that gets 20 million in debt and can't pay it back? I thought we already had one of those.

Clinton owes 20 million and can't pay it and teh world is ok with that. I lost my job and fell behind on two mortgage payments totalling less than 4k (which I already paid) and the mortgage companies treat me like the scum of the earth refusing to refinance me. It's like when Trump went bankrupt. Apparently it's ok for rich people to mess up but not common people.

And Clinton wanted us to think she was one of us. Not at all. Neither is McCain. They don't know what it's like to struggle.
She should have to work to pay it back. All of these people that send her donations….how about helping to send kids to school, feeding the homeless or the needy? We have our priorities confused.

ck   June 23rd, 2008 8:17 pm ET

I find this VERT funny….

Imagine if the situation was different, and John McCain was in the same boat as Hillary.

Can you imagine the hate filled, self promoting event Hillary would create to chastise McCain for seeking financial help from the "common man" to pay his debt,

Especially since his wife has incredible multimillion $ income???? (remember her "husband" Bill makes millions annually)

Hillary Clinton is the biggest joke I have ever had the misfortue to see!!

Rich   June 23rd, 2008 8:16 pm ET

She ran up her campaign spending like her votes in the senate ( running up the federal deficit) Spend, spend, spend with no regard to revenues or other limitations.

Allen   June 23rd, 2008 8:16 pm ET

Further, we will be happy to help her out with her debt. Obama supporters are not all wealthy, but we are all motivated to do something. Much more so than any supporters of any candidate in many, many years.

We can help her. Yes we can!

Obama '08!

g.r.r   June 23rd, 2008 8:16 pm ET

Her debt shows that they ran her campaign like a republican; short-sighted and not a care about responsibility. I would also say that it shows that the dems selected a better candidate in Obama since he planned for a long campaign AND did it within a budget.

Charles   June 23rd, 2008 8:15 pm ET

Can I send her a penny (1 cent) like you do when a waiter gives horrible service? Pennies for Hillary!

Pardon me sir, might you spare a penny for me campaign hangover?

The Truth   June 23rd, 2008 8:15 pm ET

And that is what we call "in an pickle"

How do you collect money to pay off a debt for a presidential campaign that you have aborted?

whew… that is gonna be a tough one

Loretta from California   June 23rd, 2008 8:14 pm ET

"under campaign finance law, the Obama campaign is not allowed to retire Clinton's dept directly?" Why not? Could you elaborate on this a little, CNN?

Don't get me wrong, Democrats who are in a position to contribute, should. I just believe we should all go to her website to make the donation.

DEMOCRATS UNITE!!!!!

GF   June 23rd, 2008 8:14 pm ET

Just have Bill provide his speaking services and Hillary will recoup what she's lost in no time.

JoAnn Pa.   June 23rd, 2008 8:14 pm ET

georgia   June 23rd, 2008 8:14 pm ET

Buying votes does get expensive. Obama is no more responsible for her debt than I am ! Have Bill pay it w/ NAFTA kick backs !!

kevin   June 23rd, 2008 8:14 pm ET

She stayed in the race after everyone told her to get out. Maybe she should have listened. Instead her head took her otherwise. Now she wants relief for her hedonism…. I say, write another book and maybe you'll catch up,

Phillip Bunn   June 23rd, 2008 8:13 pm ET

To Hell with Hillary. It's her debt, let her pay it. She knew her campaign was in peril and yet she continued to spend away. That's life. Pay you debts, deadbeat!!!

Chris -Toronto, Canada   June 23rd, 2008 8:11 pm ET

She should have dropped out in April instead of letting this drag on for so long and going deeper into to debt when she couldn't win. She will still have 80 million left if we don't give her a dime. Tough luck Hillary!!

David   June 23rd, 2008 8:11 pm ET

So you're a democrat who supported Hillary. She went negative and ran up a 20mil debt. Now the democratic party have 4mil in reserve vs the republican's 40-50mil. In the next several months she is going to ask you and her PAC donors to help her instead of the rest of the party. My question is how exactly is this doing anything to help elect more democrats and help her party. It was incredibly selfish to take the campaign negative to the extent she did and now here we go again.
I started the campaign fairly neutral but when she went negative my respect for her dropped and now it is gone. I do hope her supporters can find a way to continue to support her professed ideals and give money to the party or senate campaign of their choice even if they can support Obama

Michael   June 23rd, 2008 8:11 pm ET

too bad Hillary!, You still have 80 plus million. I don't feel exactly like you will be next to me in the bread line. Get a life, I am sure Bill will get that back in twenty speeches. Or maybe sell one of your two mansions. Hmm..just an idea.

Ron in Asheville, NC   June 23rd, 2008 8:10 pm ET

Dear Clarify,

You're right. In all honesty, I don't see the injustice.

max   June 23rd, 2008 8:10 pm ET

She is so disgusting, it was her choice to run such disgraceful campaign so I've a tip for her: call a Consumer Credit counseling organization, they might teach her how to manage her money.

JIM   June 23rd, 2008 8:09 pm ET

IT'S SAD WHEN HILLARY'S LOYAL SUPPORTERS WILL NOT HELP HER IN TIME OF NEED JUST GO'S TO SHOW YOU HOW GREATFUL THEY ARE AND OBAMA SUPPORTERS ARE WILLING TO DONATE ON HER BEHALF. HER SUPPORTERS ARE STILL CRYING ABOUT INJUSTICE WHEN BOTH HILLARY AND OBAMA DIDN'T HAVE ENOUGH VOTE TO PUT THEM OVER. NOW SHE IS NEED AND THEY ARE RUNNING TO McCAIN. THANK FOR NOTHING!!!!!!!!!

Michelle   June 23rd, 2008 8:09 pm ET

NO WAY .. NO WAY EVER .. do I think anyone should pay HER bills for her .. She should not even be in the senate .. how can she vote on programs and bills that cost money when she clearly has no clue about managing money .

sean   June 23rd, 2008 8:08 pm ET

She was a lame duck senator. I dare one person to name me one thing she did for the state?

Now shes whinning about needing to get money back that she spent on her campaign?

Do I demand the casinos to give me back my money if i lost any?

She's a liar, a fraud and I can't believe the arrogance of her wanting people to give her money because she's in debt. Um, can't you get your husband to bail you out?

I seriously would not want her as my neighbor.

TheTruthHurts   June 23rd, 2008 8:08 pm ET

I know this had to be excruciatingly difficult for her. I could almost see it. I'm torn. I want to help her out and get this behind us, but I also want to see her supporters STEP UP and do it for her instead of Obama supporters like me.

AH   June 23rd, 2008 8:07 pm ET

If this was a sports game, obama and clinton have an advantage. because in the primaries (playoffs) they were roughed up and played through all the states til the end, on the other hand John McCain had it easy through out the rest of the primaries. In sports the team that has battle scars and is battle wore is the team that usually has the most heart to win.

IT'S YOUR DEBT   June 23rd, 2008 8:06 pm ET

How low can she go?

So let me get this straight, she wants Barack to pay for all those commercials that said negative things about him. Yeah, I get it–she gone.

MD   June 23rd, 2008 8:06 pm ET

Every PUMA claims the nomination was stolen from Hillary by the DNC, yet I hear no explanation or factual evidence of this. This even comes after the DNC gave Clinton the benefit of the doubt by seating Florida and Michigan. She donated money to her campaign, she can pay it off.

EAM   June 23rd, 2008 8:06 pm ET

No wonder she's supporting Obama, she needs the cash from his supporters as well….smart woman!

tony   June 23rd, 2008 8:05 pm ET

To clarify,

Can you point out the rules in the Democratic primary that were unfair? Before the primary the Clinton supporters controlled the DNC (remember Hillary's overwhelming advantage in super-delegates at the start of the primary) and they wrote all of the rules of the primary.

Howard Roark   June 23rd, 2008 8:04 pm ET

Hillary has proven to be a particularly gifted liar over the years. This time she lied to herself. Reminds of a Seinfeld episode, the one where George, referring to his habitual lying states, "if you really believe what you're saying is true, it's not really a lie." Well, HRC must believe all her lies, because she still refuses to accept reality, just like her deranged supporters.

FayeinCT   June 23rd, 2008 8:03 pm ET

Mrs. Hillary Clinton you are a great lady. I support you 100%. I will be glad to keep sending you money as long as NONE of it goes to the DNC or the noname one.
It is going to hard to go on stage with a guy who lets his fans boo when your name is said.
You are better person than me, becuase there is NO way in hell I would take the stage with that man and even pretend like I was happy to be there.

tm   June 23rd, 2008 8:02 pm ET

hey so i ran up my credit card and even though my friends and family told me to stop, i continued. so now that its sky high - can i get you all to pay it off for me? freak.

Am I missing something here? Clinton supports are blaming Obama for this dept?

AT   June 23rd, 2008 8:00 pm ET

This is crazy. Senator Clinton is in all of this debt and people are finding a way to blame the Obama campaign. I am shcked that all of her supporters will not go to her web-site and give to her campaign. I am a supporter of Senator Obama and I have no problem supporting him. Where are the 18 million people that voted for her? Why don't you support your candidate? This is a mystery to me. To say that you will not support her because she is supporting Senator Obama is a cop-out. She did not manage her money and now she is in debt. I want to see a change in Wahington, I love Senator Obama!
Obama 08, 12

Rick in Chicago   June 23rd, 2008 7:59 pm ET

Maybe Hillary will just change those pesky campaign finance laws too and get 50% of her money back .. you know, like when she got that 50% of the delegate vote from the two states that she PERSONALLY agreed SHOULDN'T COUNT before the primaries were held?

I mean … why let rules and laws get in the way of what you want?

Campaign Wishes & Caviar Dreams   June 23rd, 2008 7:59 pm ET

Sure Hill, I think I have 20 million dollars stashed in my cookie jar somewhere. You can go home and eat your caviar; I'll take care of your bill–NOT.

Voter in Alaska   June 23rd, 2008 7:58 pm ET

I truly believe this person needs to pay her own bills . . . just like the rest of us are obligated to do. If you make a decision to spend money, be prepared to have a plan to pay it back. I am so thankful this is not the person that will be leading the Democratic Party through the election process into November as this is an in-your-face example of the financial mess she would have created.

California Voter   June 23rd, 2008 7:57 pm ET

First of all, Clinton backers who will not vote for Obama are not stupid, spiteful, vindictive or racist. We're just old, uneducated, and poor — according to all the polls. The fact is, that we do not believe that Obama is experienced, honest, or has good judgment, and does not represent our core values! He's never explained why he and Michelle attended a black liberation church for 20 years and never heard Rev. Wright preach his words of hate and racism.
We've given to Clinton and will give to her again if for no other reason to shut up some of the hateful Obama supporters. Thank you.

Gee, I wonder if she cannot pay her campaign debt, how would she have run the country's ecomomic problems? She left a trail of unpaid bills all over Oregon.

Jason in Juneau   June 23rd, 2008 7:57 pm ET

If she gave her self money to campaign, it's her own fault for being in debt. It's just like gambling. If I play craps at the casino, and lose my money, I can't ask for it back. Plain and simple, this is Hillary's problem only. Just like our own personal debts are just that, personal. She made the decision to spend the money the way she did. Just because Hillary has nothing to show for it doesn't mean she gets a refund.

The Mad Hatter   June 23rd, 2008 7:56 pm ET

I hope Barack has NO part of this madness. She's a nutcase.

Democrats, we made the right decision.

Pam Holt Los Angeles, CA   June 23rd, 2008 7:56 pm ET

Obama will need every dime to fight the Republicans. Hillary took a gamble, and she lost. Obviously she could spare it, and the Clintons will continue to make millions more off taxpayer money, so she needs to just write it off or something.

randy   June 23rd, 2008 7:56 pm ET

wow this is scary how can someone who raise over 250 million is in dept.20 million.i really fill sorry her.

USE THE $110 MILLION YOU AND SLICK WILLY MADE TALKING AND SELLING BOOKS TO ALL THE IDIOTS THAT WANTED TO HEAR WHAT YOU HAD TO SAY !!

Cracks In Her Head   June 23rd, 2008 7:55 pm ET

Maybe she and Chelsea and Bill can panhandle on the street. Or, she could ask the 18 million supporters for a dollar as someone else mentioned.

She must hav e18 million cracks in her head if she thinks she's going to get my money.

rumpusgoopus   June 23rd, 2008 7:55 pm ET

Re: "to clarify"

The "injustice" you speak of exists only in the minds of Clinton supporters who claim they'll vote McCain. It doesn't make sense at all to anyone else, so get used to the accusations. You're bringing it on yourself.

Brian   June 23rd, 2008 7:55 pm ET

Check out this person

"obama had better figure out a way to pay it. I gave money to Hillary twice and will give no more as long as you help obama."

If this is how Clinton supporters treat Clinton, what makes you think Obama or McCain want your support? Your a coward! When things get tough you disappear. Run coward run

Puh-lease!   June 23rd, 2008 7:54 pm ET

$20M in debt…says a lot about her campaign management. Hmmm, what about judgment.

She broke the ceiling into 18M pieces…let them pay back her debt. Love her, then pay her.

And for all those that DEMAND Obama pay her debt, or else… Or else what? You won't donate any money? You didn't donate any to his primary and he still raised $270M. Take your idle, meaningless threats and sit down!

Mike   June 23rd, 2008 7:53 pm ET

John Lexington—-At least Ed McMahon rejected any donations, fully understanding that he is still better off than most americas. She's going on air begging for $$.

The sad part is, a lot of that $$ was gambled after it was mathematically improbable and close to impossible for her to win. Anyone with a college degree (or common sense) knew that, but of course that's not her base, so they kept making a fit and crying about it. I hope she doesn't visit Vegas anytime soon. The odds are much higher than she had in the last month of the election, so proportionally she'd spend the rest of her $100 Million on black jack.

The Change Express   June 23rd, 2008 7:53 pm ET

UH-OHHHH…DUM , DA , DUM-DUM DUUUUUUUUM,

ok..I think we can bail her out.

Barack 08/12

Sonny, CA   June 23rd, 2008 7:51 pm ET

She spent over 20 million of her own money to run up to June 3rd. She knew the risks and still kept on campaigning. It was Hillary Clinton choice to run, and frankly, Obama supporters need to worry about Obama, and the general election, and not Hillary Clinton's debt.

Canadian for Obama, Toronto   June 23rd, 2008 7:51 pm ET

I wonder how she could be able to run the country without putting all of us into a recession, since our economy depend heavily on our cousin south of border (usa). huuuuuuuuuuuu

Independent-woman-4-Obama   June 23rd, 2008 7:51 pm ET

I am not surprised by her plea for help. Now is the time for all her supporters to put their money where their mouths are and help her get rid of the debt.

jonnie rotten   June 23rd, 2008 7:51 pm ET

easy come easy go. so she quit running, but just hasnt stopped begging!!!!
