I am a die hard Obama voter. There is no way that I would ever vote for John McCain.

That being said, it is bothersome to me that at this point McCain seems to be pushing the issues. He seems like he is a day or more ahead on coming out with ideas.

Thankfully his overall policy package is so terrible that I don't think it will sway voters, but I would like to see Barack on offense. Seems like Barack has just been reacting to McCain the last two weeks.

You know, investing in alternatives like wind, solar, and hybrid technologies also make us less dependent on oil. Notice how I didn't say nuclear energy. If the goal of his energy plan is homeland security, why should add nuclear plants that leave millions of Americans at risk to a terrorist and subsequent nuclear threat. McCain's entire campaign is a time warp – a 50 yr old energy policy, a repeal on 60 years of women's/civil rights, all endorced by a stubborn 70 yr. old.

In 10 years, when oil is $1000 a barrel, you'll wish we started drilling domestically in hindsight.
In 10 years, when plugging in your christmas lights costs $100/hr, you'll wish we followed McCain's advice and built nuclear plants.
If we wait 10 years to address the coming problems, it's going to take 10 more years to fix them. I personally don't want to pay $1000 per barrel oil from 2018 to 2028. McCain is just being reasonable.
Oh yeah – and his $300M contest for an electric battery is just like the Ansari X Prize. It worked brillaintly and now we have civilian sub-orbital space flight! McCain's plan will work.

How lucky you are. The price for gas in Germany is double as high as in the US and still rising. Our unemployment rate is close to 10 % However, your Mr. McDrill, drill, drill is completely wrong. Drilling and constructing new refineries will take decades. There is only one solution for the time being. Forget about "muscle cars", Pick Up trucks and driving to the store a quarter mile from your home. Use your brain instead of your car. Regarding nuclear energy, we had the same problems years ago. At first you have to answer the question where the waste should be deposited. By the way, does anybody remember "Three Mile Island" or "Chernobyl" in the Ukraine? So, keep cool and think before you believe in the words of a politician who is campaigning for President.

Bush called off the clean up of the Hanford nuclear site and they sent some off the waste to Idaho near the site of a new plant 40 miles from Boise where the FRENCE co. AREVA is building a uranium enrichment and nuclear power plant. This Fench co. also has 14 other nuc plants in the US because no US co. found them cost effective projects. THIS IS NOT SAFE! What safe is McBush talking about. The plant in Idaho is happening now -by France! AREVA has a bad safety record and has been kicked out of other countries – but we invite them in. WHAT SAFETY! WE still have 200 acres of land not cleaned up in WA state and Bush called off the clean up. NO MORE NUCLEAR WASTE UNTIL WE CLEAN UP WHAT WE HAVE!

We need to "get off of" foreign oil. We can do that by increasing our efforts to not only drill offshore (which I agree with, if stringent precautions are enforced) but to also reduce our dependance on oil.

John McCain is trying to get that process started. We can't snap our fingers and get what we want, instant gratification isn't possible here.
No, we won't feel the effects of offshore drilling for a while. BUT we will eventually and our children will. The super battery is a STEP in the right direction as well.

We can be self-reliant tomorrow if we start today.

The more he talks about getting oil independent the more I like him.
It is to bad that no one thought about doing that yrs ago instead of capping wells and stacking drill rigs in the early 80's. It is time this country gets it's independence back or we won't have any reason for the $4 th of July celebrations.

If any of you Bots bothered to watch or ready ANYTHING other than CNN you would have seen reports that some of the off-shore drilling can be tapped into in less than 1 year and the vast majority would be reached in 2-5 years.

However, since a big chunk of the price of gas is due to speculation, as soon as the market hears that offshore drilling is in the works the price will drop.

Too little and too late. We (the United States) should have formed a long term energy policy 35 years ago when we were hit with the 1st oil embargo. We have short memories and refuse to learn from history. Every one want the U.S. to "do something" BUT NOT IN MY BACKYARD!!!! Exactly where are these 45 nucelar reactors going to be built ???? Where ever it is, you can expect huge demonstrations against them. The same goes for "wind farms" (see recent Cape Cod activity). Sorry, but no one in the american public is willing to give up any of their perceived privileges for a long term common good. "Let some one else do it." seems to be the attitude held by 99.99999 % of the public.
