If it's called the Lexington Project, are we all going to ride around on horses? Must bring back the good old days for Jon.

And where's the $300 million battery prize money coming from? Cindy?

I am a die hard Obama voter. There is no way that I would ever vote for John McCain.

That being said, it is bothersome to me that at this point McCain seems to be pushing the issues. He seems like he is a day or more ahead on coming out with ideas.

Thankfully his overall policy package is so terrible that I don't think it will sway voters, but I would like to see Barack on offense. Seems like Barack has just been reacting to McCain the last two weeks.

Really? "Lexington Project"??? And last week, he told an Iowa mayor he "lost the battle but won the war" with the flooding. Does this guy have ANYTHING except a bag full of lame military metaphors?????

I'm starting to agree with the folks that say McCain can't think of anything except in terms of the use of force.

McCain reminds me of the scene from "Good Will Hunting" where Robin Williams keeps telling Matt Damon "It's not your fault" over and over again. McCain's energy policy is to deny the long term problem and to keep drilling with a happy smile.

You know, investing in alternatives like wind, solar, and hybrid technologies also make us less dependent on oil. Notice how I didn't say nuclear energy. If the goal of his energy plan is homeland security, why should add nuclear plants that leave millions of Americans at risk to a terrorist and subsequent nuclear threat. McCain's entire campaign is a time warp - a 50 yr old energy policy, a repeal on 60 years of women's/civil rights, all endorced by a stubborn 70 yr. old.

"There have always been critics of John McCain who cherry-pick his compromises, ignore his larger efforts and accuse him of being a hypocrite. This is, of course, the gospel of the mediocre man: to ridicule someone who tries something difficult on the grounds that the effort was not a total success."

So...if this is bad to buy from them....these Oil Producing Countries....but it is still OK to buy goods from China.....hmmmm....lets stop buying from China and build our good job pool back up again.

OK McCain....question to you then... lets the the Republicans to vote with the Dems and look into the Energy Meetings that the White House had years ago. Might be some good reading or insider information of how the gas prices went though the roof.

In 10 years, when oil is $1000 a barrel, you'll wish we started drilling domestically in hindsight.
In 10 years, when plugging in your christmas lights costs $100/hr, you'll wish we followed McCain's advice and built nuclear plants.
If we wait 10 years to address the coming problems, it's going to take 10 more years to fix them. I personally don't want to pay $1000 per barrel oil from 2018 to 2028. McCain is just being reasonable.
Oh yeah - and his $300M contest for an electric battery is just like the Ansari X Prize. It worked brillaintly and now we have civilian sub-orbital space flight! McCain's plan will work.

As a 110% supporter of Hillary's "Insourcing for the 21st Century", I have read J-Mac's VERY SPECIFIC "The Lexington Project" and his policy combines sound energy and environmental policies to create jobs, jobs and more green-collar jobs!

I have forwarded The Lexington Project to all my undecided friends and former Hillary supporters!!

Way to go J-Mac!

How lucky you are. The price for gas in Germany is double as high as in the US and still rising. Our unemployment rate is close to 10 % However, your Mr. McDrill, drill, drill is completely wrong. Drilling and constructing new refineries will take decades. There is only one solution for the time being. Forget about "muscle cars", Pick Up trucks and driving to the store a quarter mile from your home. Use your brain instead of your car.

Regarding nuclear energy, we had the same problems years ago. At first you have to answer the question where the waste should be deposited. By the way, does anybody remember "Three Mile Island" or "Chernobyl" in the Ukraine? So, keep cool and think before you believe in the words of a politician who is campaigning for President.

Off shore drilling?

Hell the oil companies aren't drilling on the 68,000 acres they already are leasing in the Gulf of Mexico. They are only drilling on 3,000, not even a quarter of what they can

CCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCC

Just b/c you have a lease does not mean there is oil there!

Bush called off the clean up of the Hanford nuclear site and they sent some off the waste to Idaho near the site of a new plant 40 miles from Boise where the FRENCE co. AREVA is building a uranium enrichment and nuclear power plant. This Fench co. also has 14 other nuc plants in the US because no US co. found them cost effective projects. THIS IS NOT SAFE! What safe is McBush talking about. The plant in Idaho is happening now -by France! AREVA has a bad safety record and has been kicked out of other countries - but we invite them in. WHAT SAFETY! WE still have 200 acres of land not cleaned up in WA state and Bush called off the clean up. NO MORE NUCLEAR WASTE UNTIL WE CLEAN UP WHAT WE HAVE!

thekingofbluecollar
You have experience managing people?
Really? Cuzz..the KEY to a good manager is the ability to embrace
and implement change. Everyone knows that is one of the most difficult jobs in management. Companies constantly change to stay competitive.
How many people do you manage????

Instead of a $300 million dollar prize, why not have some of those really smart people at NASA invent something enery efficient out of all those million of dollars the government is already giving to the space program. If they can build a rocket to go to the moon surely they can come up with some form of enery efficient battery for the general public. We don't need to go into outter space right now we need more efficient transportation right here on earth.

We need to "get off of" foreign oil. We can do that by increasing our efforts to not only drill offshore (which I agree with, if stringent precautions are enforced) but to also reduce our dependance on oil.

John McCain is trying to get that process started. We can't snap our fingers and get what we want, instant gratification isn't possible here.
No, we won't feel the effects of offshore drilling for a while. BUT we will eventually and our children will. The super battery is a STEP in the right direction as well.

We can be self-reliant tomorrow if we start today.

I read the new's a lot, I see Barack Huesien Obama talking about generalities a lot. That's a fact not one person here can deny. I see John Sydney McCain talking about actual policy decision's he would make, more importantly the exact specifics. Atleast with McCain you know what your getting, take it or leave it. Obama is a "rock star" but you don't know exactly what your getting. Think about it folks. Stop drinking the coolaid!!

Wow...I'm glad there is such intelligent discussion on this site.....NOT.

This is why Dems will never be taken seriously. Instead of discussing the issues, all you do is insult. It was the same deal during the Obama/Clinton primary, only then you were insulting people of your own party. Why don't you people grow up and actually take time to understand and discuss the issues.

"McCain is an idiot" sure is constructive. I CAN'T WAIT until you lose this election.

Good for you John McCain! Now, quit pandering for votes, and tell us where that $300 million is coming from you are offering for a "smart battery". I hope Americans are really paying attention to this election, b/c the Republicans are doing and saying whatever to get a vote! If all of this was so easy, why wait until now to try to fix it! I think McCain is looking at the polls, and it's looking pretty bleak! Too late, DEMS will win all up and down the ballot this year! Go OBAMA Go!!!!!!!

The more he talks about getting oil independent the more I like him.
It is to bad that no one thought about doing that yrs ago instead of capping wells and stacking drill rigs in the early 80's. It is time this country gets it's independence back or we won't have any reason for the $4 th of July celebrations.
Where would we have been in WW2 or any of the other wars if we needed to get everything from other countries. But there are too many youngsters out there that don't understand all that.

If any of you Bots bothered to watch or ready ANYTHING other than CNN you would have seen reports that some of the off-shore drilling can be tapped into in less than 1 year and the vast majority would be reached in 2-5 years.

However, since a big chunk of the price of gas is due to speculation, as soon as the market hears that offshore drilling is in the works the price will drop.

Economics 201 - for those with an IQ over 90...

I can't for the life of me understand so many of these comments here everyday. Such hate and name calling... etc

I can only pray that these are mostly posted by kids home from school for the summer and that their parents, older brothers and sisters aunts and uncles, and so forth are more level headed and understand that we are looking to move the country forward and not just vote based on which of these men has a prettier website.

"joe in VA June 25th, 2008 3:17 pm ET

to the previous 5 posts….at least McCain has a plan. BHO simply spews a lot of empty talk then takes a bow for grand speech.

It seems t me that the only thing BHO supporters want in a candidate is a "rock star". The country needs a problem solver folks!

If all BHO can deliver is words then he is useless to the country!"

We needs some more actors to run this thing! Isn't there another senile, warmongering B movie actor in Hollywood that can run for President??? Issues don't matter, as long as you talk tough

Hey joe in VA....

Barack is still, you know, running for the presidency, so, there's really not a whole lot he can do right now besides tell us what he plans to do until he takes office in Jan 09.

And learn how to use the internet. If you actually visit Obama's website, you'll see he has plenty of plans; you're just too lazy to go look so you can come on here and spew crap like your last post.

Too little and too late. We (the United States) should have formed a long term energy policy 35 years ago when we were hit with the 1st oil embargo. We have short memories and refuse to learn from history. Every one want the U.S. to "do something" BUT NOT IN MY BACKYARD!!!! Exactly where are these 45 nucelar reactors going to be built ???? Where ever it is, you can expect huge demonstrations against them. The same goes for "wind farms" (see recent Cape Cod activity). Sorry, but no one in the american public is willing to give up any of their perceived privileges for a long term common good. "Let some one else do it." seems to be the attitude held by 99.99999 % of the public.

To all you socialist Obamabots, At least McCain has a plan! I realize most of you live at home with mommy and daddy, and wouldn't know the first thing about actually supporting yourselves. You will vote for Obama because he promises to be your great provider. You all really need to get a clue!
