Michelle Obama praised Clinton's policy work Thursday.

MANCHESTER, N.H. (AP) – Michelle Obama says the country is closer than it's ever been to truly supporting working families, in large part because of her husband's former rival, Hillary Rodham Clinton.

The wife of Sen. Barack Obama is campaigning in New Hampshire Thursday with former Gov. Jeanne Shaheen, who is running for U.S. Senate. Her visit comes a day before her husband returns to New Hampshire with Clinton for their first joint appearance since he clinched the Democratic presidential nomination.

Michelle Obama said because of Clinton's work the issues important to women and working families are front and center.

She said her husband will work to expand sick time and paid family leave, help parents afford child care and make sure women get equal pay.

Michelle is an intelligent, caring woman. She will be an excellent and involved first lady, who puts others first!

Mitchelle is a fake. I watched her acting on the View, and also the sudden turn around in this CNN speech.
If I do not vote for Obama, it is because of this lousy and saucy lady.

Hmm, lots of pro-obama posts, lots of disgruntled hillary supporters, NO McCain supporters. Considering McCain is polling 40-45 percent nationally, I wonder where all his supporters are, or what they're pretending to be…

The Rev Wright was right when he said the Obama's were the typical politicians. Michelle just the other day said if Hillary can't run her own household how can she run a country. I guess she's learning a lot in the etiquette school.

Marc   June 26th, 2008 4:57 pm ET

Michelle is an idiot. I tell you what, if he had found himself a good woman, I'd think about voting for him. Now, for the first time in my adult life, I'll be really proud to vote Republican.

Dave   June 26th, 2008 4:56 pm ET

Give me a break, how phony can you get Michelle….

Desiree   June 26th, 2008 4:56 pm ET

Oh please, is any one really falling for this? Why doesn't Michelle Obama say what she really feels about Hillary Clinton instead on putting on this love fest, it makes them look like the biggest liars in the world.

norma - Wisconsin   June 26th, 2008 4:55 pm ET

So, now Michele is admiring Hillary. My, my - don't we all do a fast spin and voila! We love each other!

I can barely watch tv anymore - I've been addicted to politics for the last 20 years, but I'm over it! I can't keep up with the hypocrisy from day to day. I will never vote for a Republican (if I even vote this year) but I have to thank the media and all of the "Idol" voters. At last I'm free to do something besides listen to all the rhetoric and promises and name-calling and accusatory inuendo that the campaign forced me to hear. I'm finding my free time very worthwhile, but I sure would have liked to see Hillary giving press reports from the Oval office. Her voice is very soothing and even-keeled. Tent camp preachers yelling over the microphone really turn me off. Intonation is very important, and one must learn to end a statement on the downward note, not up in the air like everything is a question. Has anyone else noticed?

RRRrrrr   June 26th, 2008 4:55 pm ET

I know you're out there. I can feel you now. I know that you're afraid. You're afraid of us. You're afraid of change. I don't know the future. I didn't come here to tell you how this is going to end. I came here to tell you how it's going to begin. I'm going to hang up this phone, and then I'm going to show these people what you don't want them to see. I'm going to show them a world … without you. A world without rules and controls, without borders or boundaries. A world where anything is possible. Where we go from there is a choice I leave to you.

The Matrix.

Obama/Hillary 08

Nate   June 26th, 2008 4:52 pm ET

Hillary Supporters take a look at Michelle Obama. Look at her history and where she comes from. Is it odd that she comes from Illinois, went to an exclusive school, became a lawyer and fought for average people. Now she's the wife of the democratic nominee? People are focusing on the differences- it seems to me they have a lot more in common. Pandering?? Welcome to politics- it's more important to look at what she stands for.

Cindy McCain??? What has she ever done. The difference between them is night and day. Cindy McCain represents the American Fantasy- born wealthy married a wealth US Senator. Michelle Obama represents the American Dream. Born to average Americans, worked hard and acheived success.

Ex-mod-GOP for Obama   June 26th, 2008 4:52 pm ET

I agree that she'll be a wonderful First Lady. Yes, she's had a few verbal slips, but, honestly, who among us hasn't? I'm a teacher and I know how it is to spend so much time speaking to groups. Hang in there, Michelle — It'll be great to have your family in the White House.

A Latte Lover, Seattle, WA   June 26th, 2008 4:50 pm ET

Actually, say what you will about Michelle and Hillary, but I bet as a first lady, Michelle will be very much like Hillary. She won't be a quiet, stay behind the scenes first lady as Cindy McCain appears likely to be. Both Hillary and Michelle are very strong, capable, involved women. There were things said by both spouses, meaning Bill and Michelle, which need to be left in the past. They were said during a very heated primary season. The only ones that seem to be holding grudges are us supporters. Time to move on, and unite.

She was talking about taking care of her family.

Good job on twisting the words - that happens a lot when it comes to Michelle.

Gini   June 26th, 2008 4:42 pm ET

It seems that the only ones incapable of coming together for a common cause are the people in these blogs.

The Clintons and Obama's have made up and come together, the party as a whole is coming together, the majority of the supporters are coming together.

The only ones not coming together are the people on these blogs…. petty idiots who would rather vote against their own values than to vote for the guy that beat Hillary.

If you're voting for McCain because you agree with his stances on the issues or just see him as being personable and more capable… then God bless you and I respect your opinion. But if you're voting for McCain just to lash out because Hillary was beaten.. then you are just a poor, pathetic excuse for a human being and deserve no consideration.

By the way.. I checked out the PUMA website just out of curiosity. The most pathetic thing I've ever seen. Now they're encouraging people to make donations to the DNC by sending monopoly money to prove a point. What point? That you're a childish ingrate? Even if I supported PUMA's cause.. I would be ASHAMED to belong to a group who uses such ridiculous childish methods.

And it does seem like the campaign is getting a bit ahead of themselves. The "presidential shield" look-alike was kind of a dumb thing to do, especially after going back on the promise to take federal election money. I know why, but come on! I hope they get back on track again.

Michelle Obama, like her Husband……is fair.

The Clinton's played dirty through the Primaries….but…..they have done alot for Our Country.

Hillary does care about Health Care for All American's and Children's issues, etc.

She was just to devisive and had many strong negatives and could not have possibly won the General Election in November.

The Clinton's should be looked down upon for their Lies/Spin/Fear and Smear Campaigning…..but hey…..surviving the Clinton Attack Machine just made Obama stronger.

But…..as Michelle and Barack are doing…..and we should too….remember the positive tthings both Clinton's have accoplished and will go on to accomplish when we take back the White House when Barack is sworn in in January.

For those who don't know……Barack runs a positive Campaign and believes in standing "FOR" something……

This is cute. I am an Obama supporter and why would she say she would support Clinton in the middle of a Primary Race? At that time Clinton was running around saying her husband can't win to anyone who would listen. So, I can understand her being not so enthusiastic about saying she would vote for her. We all know at the end of the day the Obamas and the Clintons are voting Democrat.

And this isn't about party, this is about principle and values. Most of my values and principles align with the Democratic Party. I am a liberal and proud of it and I don't think the Obamas should have to pander to the middle to prove their patriotism or love of country and especially pander to the Crazy Clintonites who are swearing McCain or Clinton still. I wish they would just be themselves and trust that most of the American people are watching this election eyes wide open.

If you want to continue to drive/eat/sleep in peace, pay for healthcare, keep your job, get equal pay, etc. etc. there is NO alternative than voting for Obama.

Otherwise, we are doomed!. It's that simple. anyone how doesn't trust in that, need only try and open their dangerously closed minds and eyes and look around at how our country and the world are "imploding".

bob in L.A.   June 26th, 2008 4:16 pm ET

Listening to the Obama's lately you would think they backed Hillary for President!
All this niceness is, to use Sen. Obama's word- pandering.
Some of us already realized she was all the great things they are saying about her. Too bad she's not the nominee.

Bridgette   June 26th, 2008 4:15 pm ET

I would jut like to ask…where was Michelle while her hubby was benefitting hugely from blatant sexism? she didn't seem to care much for Hillary at that time.

independent   June 26th, 2008 4:15 pm ET

michelle loves her man.cindy doesnt know hers.

William Rinds   June 26th, 2008 4:15 pm ET

Yes, Yes, give more and more benefits to workers at who's expense?

There's nothing so grand as having the federal government writing laws to give stuff to you when someone else is having to pay for it…

Lynn   June 26th, 2008 4:15 pm ET

I guess no more messups for Michelle. She has a whole team making sure she walks the walk and talks the talk. I think we have already seen the real Michelle. I'm not fooled.

I used to be a Democrat   June 26th, 2008 4:14 pm ET

Yawn! These people threw the Clintons under the bus. What a bunch of backstabbing loser.

Y'all make me sick.

Marc PDX   June 26th, 2008 4:14 pm ET

Barak supports the death penalty for child rapists? I think the death penalty should be banned altogether. We're one of the last remaining "first world" countries that still executes people. Life in prison: yes! Execution: no! Obama fails the liberal test on this one. But probably mostly due to inexperience. I suspect he'll "change" on this one pretty soon. Change you can believe in!

I can't trust anything Michelle Obama says either. She is pandering for her husband's votes. I am still thinking about how I will vote in November. Senator Obama still has not convinced me that he is a better candidate than Hillary Clinton. He should make up his mind already on who will be his V.P. That answer should be Hillary Clinton. Then I definitely will vote for Obama. WANTING HILLARY CLINTON TO BE OUR NEXT PRESIDENT!!!!!!!!

Robert   June 26th, 2008 4:14 pm ET

WOW….guess she is becoming more proud of these United States each and every day. What a sham!

Martha   June 26th, 2008 4:13 pm ET

I too, believe both women do not like each other, but will put aside
differences for the good of the party.
The Republicans are done, thank goodness.

Many countries suffered for this stupid war, not just the US.
McCain would be a BUSH#2

michael   June 26th, 2008 4:11 pm ET

Considering what she could say, I think that she's being rather gracious. Come on, she would have to be an idiot not to be so kind to her husband's former running mate. They need as many of Hilary's supporters as they can get.
Now, if only the Obama supporters would be a little more nice. I am constantly amazed at how vitriolic they can be in the blogs posted in here. They have said so many nasty things about Hillary that I am not surprised that many of her supporters would say they won't vote for Obama. Let's be a little more civil in our political discourse, people!

Ratgurl   June 26th, 2008 4:10 pm ET

Fla Obama supporter–no one cares how your precious Michelle feels–we know she despises Hillary–she said so herself. It does not matter as J mcCain is going to win hands down. Let the flip-flopping dems play their silly games. I could care less–I just want the US to vote for McCain so I can pay my gas bill. Drill here and drill now–the price of oil and speculating will drop immediately. I am also thrilled that I can still keep my hunting rifle and go to church!

ree not for Obama   June 26th, 2008 4:08 pm ET

Sorry, Obama Supporter from Fl. it's too late. We all know how she feels about Sen. Clinton. There is alot of us who can't forget some of her remarks about not being proud to be American. Oh, forgot she mis-spoke.

The Obama's need the Clintons. I don't know about some of these polls, but I haven't spoken to anyone who is voting for them. He is so like Bush, the same attitude, buying the election, and no experience.

Remember people, the president is Rep but in the Senate and the House the Dems are in control. They have done nothing in the two years they have been in control. Prices on food and gas have gone up in the two years. So, what are they going to do different if Obama is president?

Lynn   June 26th, 2008 4:08 pm ET

What a hypocrite. Didn't she say she did not know if she would vote for Hillary if she was nominee. They are sure saying nice things since the primary is over. Do they really believe we have a short memory?

J. Richter   June 26th, 2008 4:08 pm ET

To the PUMAs who will jump in and begin keep quoting Hillary primary statements against Barack. The comparison was among two candidates with similar policies not an absolute.

She states clearly now that Barack is better than McCain by miles even though she believed she was a better candidate. She believed she had more experience even though Barack has 20 total political (including 8 in Illinois state and 3 in US senate) and her statement on him not having experience was a hyperbole typical of campaigns (even a Republican candidate in Oregon is running an ad citing his experience with Obama) so lets get a grip.

And please listen to Hillary your candidate this time as you know she would not push Barack over McCain if she did not believe it was better for the country, her supporters and all of us. Please save us from the past 8 years.

Typical White Person   June 26th, 2008 4:08 pm ET

Her handlers are doing an amazing job! She said that without gagging…

I wonder if all this pandering will cause her to develop compulsive handwashing…

Anita from Arizona   June 26th, 2008 4:07 pm ET

I honestly don't care if they like each other or not. Who says you have to like the people you work with? You tolerate them for the greater good. PERIOD!! Anyone whos worked in that environment knows what I'm talking about and guess what. I bet the experience made you a stronger, more determined worker. Get started on solving our countries issues and have a tea party afterwards. Thank you Obama, for addressing the ISSUES and not all this other crap the GOP and Nader are attempting to throw.

kathe oakland, california   June 26th, 2008 4:06 pm ET

THROW-UP. Michelle, please don't start being phony - not now. THere are a lot of things you could have said about Hillary but this takes the cake. Don't allow media and all these racist turn you into a suck-up to anyone OK.

You are an intelligent, well-educated woman don't bring us down with this BS talk about Hillary. Hillary and Bill are divisive, back stabbing, self involved beings - watch your back girlfriend, that is all I have to say and PLEASE continue to watch Senator Obama's back.

Hillary is right and her supporters should listen to her this time as you did before. If you really believe she has the interest o the country at hear which is why you supported her then you will also trust her on this issue.

Unless you believe Hillary is right when it agrees with your predisposition and not when it does not - which means it was never about either of them but about you.

Jozee   June 26th, 2008 4:04 pm ET

No, there is no love lost between these two women but they are adults. Hillary was right to say there is no need to look back on what coulda, shoulda, woulda been, but to look forward and get Barack Obama elected to the presidency.

Michelle is learning to filter her emotions and thoughts thru hard lessons learned these past few weeks. I believe she will be a exceptional First Lady. I can't wait for the inauguration.

Go Obama!

Patrick Henry, Ft. Myers   June 26th, 2008 4:04 pm ET

Well…Michelle must have finished phase 1 of the DNC finishing school for candidates wives.

Do you believe what she said or do you think this is staged to garner support from Hillary supporters???

Hmmmm?

Melinda Charlotte, NC   June 26th, 2008 4:03 pm ET

I do not believe a word of it. Welcome to the professional world of pandering,Mrs. Obama. You fit right in. Hillary Clinton's supporters will not listen to a thing you say about her. Do not think for a second we have forgotten that you would "have to think about" supporting her should she have won the nomiunation. Now, we have "to think about" whether or not we will support Barack Obama. We most certainly do not support you, Mrs. Obama.

Capt. Smash, Salt Lake City, Utah   June 26th, 2008 3:48 pm ET

From: The Hill

Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) said he bit his tongue “many times” during the fierce primary battle with Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.).
Two sources said that Obama’s comments came after Rep. Diane Watson (D-Calif.), a Clinton backer, told the Illinois senator that the Democratic Party needs time to heal.

“I bit my tongue many times. Many times. I bit my tongue many times during this campaign,” Obama told his colleagues in the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) last week during a private meeting. He repeated the “I bit my tongue” phrase three times during the meeting, the sources said.

The comments suggest that Obama believes that he did not unfairly attack Clinton but held back after feeling the sting of political barbs.

Marc PDX   June 26th, 2008 3:46 pm ET

The Clintons have always been for sale. No news here. In this case, Hillary's support can be had for a mere $22.5 million to retire her debt (including $12 million of her own money - that she wants back).

Looks like some pandering to the Clintons is also a condition if she's not going to get the VP offer. Expect to keep seeing this and Hillary to do the same back to Barak (for a mere $22M).

But where's Bill? Why all the pouting? Guess he wanted more than he's getting… so he went to Europe…

I think that is really nice of her, and I think it is much more true than if Obama had been running against an all-male field.

Of course, I know that now at least 20 people will post about how horrible this is and Michelle is just sucking up, and she once said she would "have to think about" casting a vote for Hillary. Come one guys, prove me wrong for once. ;)
