McCain is more devoted to big oil than to this country. He supports increasing the already insane profits of these companies by indicating that he is for opening up off-shore drilling.
If he truly wants America to have energy independence, then he would be taking steps to cut back on the tax credits given to American big oil companies unless they can prove that they are using their profits for research and development of alternative energy. Any oil company that cannot prove that they are working on alternative energy should face heavy fines. The tax credits should be based soley on the amount of dollars going into that R & D.

Devotion to your country means exactly ~nothing~ if you are not intelligent enough to know what actions will help your country. What's more, it insinuates that he thinks his opponent is somehow less devoted, and makes him seem to me like an egotistical madman.

I bet McCain has offered lots more to this country than he is ABLE TO TELL US. The PROBLEM IS THAT HE HAS A HARD TIME REMEMBERING most of what he has done which is indicative of his age.

Another reason McCain sems to travel to Iraq every other week is be REMINDED of the progress and to HOPEFULLY KEEP HIS SHORT TERM MEMORY SHARP on events there. It would be alarming if he HAPPENS TO FORGET WHO THE MAJOR PLAYERS ARE IN IRAQ (which happens to be his main strength). Say like if HE FORGOT WHO WAS ON WHAT SIDE BETWEEN THE SUNNIS AND SHIITES? My suggestion is to make sure he keeps Leiberman very close.

Did you feel the same scorn when the swiftboat folks were attacking John Kerry? He wasn't a pow, but he did serve, and was mercilessly attacked.

He served, but that doesn't make him an untouchable icon personally or professionally. Obama and his wife are personally being smeared – sorry, if the mccain camp and the gop wants to dish it out, they better expect to get some in return. You're cynicism and bitterness definitely brand you a republican. I'm thankful for my optimism – you must be miserable.

He wants to lower our dependence on oil. To me, offshore drilling will only increase our dependence on oil, and do little to lower prices. So while Bush was in Israel calling Obama and appeaser he was actually taking notes right =). And he and McCain were also up in an uproar b/c Obama would meet with Iran w/o preconditions met as far as Uranium is concerned and then Ta Da...Bush strikes a deal with N. Korea w/o them meeting the precondition of getting rid of their uranium. And by the way your good ol candidate McCain was totally against even have talks with N. Korea and other nations, but we'll see how much he flip flops on this issue as he as done on almost everything else he stood for....Glad the Olympics are coming in August maybe McCain can make the gymnastics team with all the flips he can do

Hey, the Lexington Project can do for America what the Manhattan Project did for Japan. Any energy policy that does not stress the consumption side first, renewable sources second, and oil and nuclear last is simply a bad idea. Long term solutions for long term problems. No band aid short term solutions and then forgetting the problem – that's what happened after the 1970s, which is exactly why we're in this mess now.

I can very easily see us drilling more and building a bunch of nuke plants and then as soon as the price of oil goes down to $60, we forget all about this until the next oil shock 10 or 20 years from now. Are we really that dumb? We were the last time.

As for patriotism – I get it. McCain is patriotic.... so is Obama and a couple hundred million other people. Now, why should I support McCain over my very patriotic cousin, Bob?
