Sen. Obama and Michelle Obama donated to Clinton's debt.

(CNN) – Sen. Barack Obama and his wife, Michelle, each donated $2,300 Thursday to the campaign of his former opponent, Sen. Hillary Clinton, which is millions of dollars in debt.

In addition, Obama's national finance chairman, Penny Pritzker, and her husband donated another $2,300 each, said Obama communications director Robert Gibbs. The $2,300 is the maximum individual contribution allowed.

"[Obama] wrote a check himself, as well as his finance chairman, so I got two checks in my pocket for Hillary," said Clinton adviser Terry McAuliffe.

Asked how much the checks were for, he responded, "They maxed out."

Obama communications director Robert Gibbs confirmed the Obamas' donations.

The move comes nearly three weeks after Clinton suspended her campaign and endorsed Obama, the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee.

Obama doesn't need her and why should he help bail her out when she miss managed her own campaign? No one told her to go into debt when there was NO WAY she could when. That's on her. I don't see every day American's getting bailed out when they go out and spend money that they don't have. Why do the Clinton's and their supports still feel entitled to something? Some of you have very little knowledege how campaigns are run.

Neither Obama is being "generous", neither Hillary is being "bought" out.

Obama needs Hillary's top donors and he needs hers. Both groups have maxed out the maximum amount allowed by law that they can gve to their candidate. So, they are basically switching donors, hers will give to his campaign and his will give to hers to help retire her debt.

The reason why he gave her $2,300 of his personal account was because several of her top donors were complaining that he hadn't made a good enough faith effort to help her out while at the same time expecting them to contribute to his campaign.

In politics nobody does anything for nothing, one hand washes the other...............

As always, there's no pleasing some people. What exactly is wrong with them giving the maximum amount to her campaign? It's a donation to charity, something he has done, as shown in his tax returns, all his life. It's also a unifying message. Is he doing this to get votes and get people who seem to support Hillary no matter what? Well duh!! Of course he is! But it's also a caring thing for him to do seeing as how it probably wouldn't have been done for him.
Many of you are right. It's not his fault she ran so bad a campaign (something so many staunch Hillary supporters refuse to admit). However, he's doing this in the name of party unity and being able to put the past where it belongs – in the past. Obama is a great man, a great leader, and will be a great president. No matter how you feel about him doing this, it's a sign of that greatness in the end.

Good, he gave to her and he has done as much as he can do. The reason Obama supporters are giving to Obama is because we want him to win. We gave to him to defeat Hillary and he did. Someone on this blog called Hillary Clinton underpriveledged.... What a joke. Her campaign was run poorly and she went in way too much debt at the end. If the norm is to try and retire her debt, then that's fine and to those who have the money to give her, go for it.

I don't have it. I am one of those 1.7 million average Americans who has donated $25 to $50 dollars here and there to Senator Obama's campaign and I intend to continue whenever I can. I am contributing to who I think will be the next President of the United States but not to a multi-millionaire who ran her campaign into the highest campaign debt in US history.

I just can't stand it anymore!

I started this year shutting down a company I spent two years trying to get off the ground and deep in debt. It was my business and I put MY money at risk. When it failed I took responsibility for it and went out and got a job to support my family and start paying down that debt. I certainly never had and never will have the financial backing Hillary and Bill have. She wanted to run for president. She put her own money into the campaign and she lost. I haven't got words to describe my anger at her now asking people to help her pay off that debt!!! I'd kill to have one half of one percent of their net worth and now she's got her hand out looking for help?!? She put her own money at risk trying to accomplish something she wanted and failed. Where does she get off asking people to help her out now, especially when they've got more than enough money to cover this?!? I didn't go out begging for help. There were times I felt desperate and wanted to, but calmed down and put together a budget. I'm working to pay off my debt. She could a write a check to pay off her campaign's debt! I'm done ranting but I'm far from being over this. He couldn't do it politically, but I would love to hear Obama say "Screw you. You got yourself into this mess. You get yourself out (and you can afford it to.)"

It is disturbing that we are being asked to support Senator Clinton's mismanaged finances when she could have, at any time, stopped spending money and suspend her campaign to minimze her debt. Isn't this an example of why we are in such a mess economically? Spending money you don't have and getting bailed out. The only difference between this and the mortgage mess is that there was no deceptive marketing – Senator Clinton knew what she was doing. I am a huge Obama supporter, but this is REALLY irresponsible – it certainly does not set a good example for the American people – kind of like the Bush income tax rebate – don't save it, spend it to stimulate the economy – smoke and mirrors. I respect Senator Clinton, but the finincial situation her campaign is in, was due to her campaign and nothing or noe one else. Again, I understand why, but what about the American people who are in debt (for some of the same reasons her campaign is in debt – mismanagement of funds). Who is going to help them? Obama has shown himself as a stand up man. Whether it's for political gain or not, this guy uses his wisdom for the right reason. We need that kind of strength leading our country. For the folks who, are prejudice about a black man as president, ask yourself one question, does it matter when it comes to feeding , housing and clothing your family? about educating your children and providing health opportunities for you and your family? Some of you Hillary fans are truly in denial. The rest seem to be Republicans in disguise trying to prevent the DNC from uniting.

Get over it. Obama will be the nominee. Hillary wasn't treated anymore unfairly than Obama was. She did not win more votes unless you use the "Clinton math".

It was nice of Barack and Michelle as well as other of Obama's supporters to help Hillary pay off the debt to try to help unify the party. Some of you just refuse to see it that way. He didn't have to. They could just let her sit and stew about it and make her pay it out of her millions. Thus most likely preventing her, at least for awhile, to have the money to make another run for it since her "supporters" don't seem to want to fund her run for office.

Flash - (CNN) - Sen. Barack Obama and his wife, Michelle, each donated $2,300 Thursday to the campaign of his former opponent, Sen. Hillary Clinton, which is millions of dollars in debt.

Nice that Obama thinks enough of Hillary to donate to her campaign. I'll bet she didn't donate to his as his is a campaign of broken promises, misguided policies and a return to Jimmy Carter. Do we really want that?

I don't think so, so let us unite and wake up to a brighter tomorrow and elect John McCain.
