Sen. John McCain's speech to a Latino group Saturday was interrupted by hecklers. Photo credit: AP.

WASHINGTON (CNN) — John McCain has been taking most weekends off since effectively securing the Republican nomination, but the Arizona senator has a busy weekend, including a speech to a Latino conference where he was heckled several times.

McCain spent the morning speaking at the annual conference of NALEO, National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials. Sen. Barack Obama is scheduled to speak at the event after McCain.

Three hecklers from the anti-war group, Code Pink, disrupted McCain's speech at separate times and were later escorted from the room.

According to the group, Phoenix resident Liz Hourican, holding a camera aimed at the candidate, stood up when McCain said "I represent Arizona…"

"John you do represent Arizona! And we want a peace candidate!," she yelled. "We want a peace candidate! Peace takes courage!"

McCain, laughing off the disruption, joked, "that's a long trip out," adding: "I'm sure you've seen the polls out now about trust and confidence in our government, and the one thing the American people want us to stop doing is yelling at each other."

Five minutes later, two more female protesters jumped up, yelling loudly.

"Your silence is consent to war crimes! War criminal!" one said. Another heckler carried a pink banner that read "McCain=Guerra" — or "McCain=War."

McCain, however, was met with a standing ovation by the audience at the end.

"Thank you very much," he said. "It makes me feel very wonderful to have such a wonderful reception."

NALEO expressed apologies to McCain just before the Obama speech. "The individuals were not NALEO members, they are not part of this constituency, and they do not reflect our values of engaging in dialogue and conversation with the next president of the United States."

Though much of McCain's speech focuses on the issues he has been pushing throughout the week — energy solutions and the lagging economy — McCain also touched on key issues among Latinos.

The senator paid his respects to "the contributions of Hispanic-Americans to the culture, economy and security of the country I have served all my adult life." He also emphasized that immigration reform begins with securing the United States border with Mexico.

"We must prove to [Americans] that we can and will secure our borders first, while respecting the dignity and rights of citizens and legal residents of the United States," he's said, adding: "We have economic and humanitarian responsibilities as well, and they require no less dedication from us in meeting them."

Before the NALEO conference, McCain met briefly with Iraqi president Jalal Talabani in Washington. Later in the day, he is scheduled to meet with the president of the Philippines, Gloria Arroyo. He then flies to Louisville, Kentucky this afternoon, where he will hold two fundraisers.

On Sunday, McCain will meet privately with evangelist Franklin Graham in Asheville, North Carolina.

Heckling is rude. However sometimes it is the only way to get your point across to a party that isn't really interested in real people. I am a little tired of people saying that if we support our troops we must support our president. Under bush we have all endured hardship in one way or another. Bring the troops home.

HEY HEIDI…..GROW UP AND START ACTING LIKE AN ADULT UNLESS YOU'RE NOT.
WHEN A PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE GIVES A SPEECH….
YOU GIVE THEM THE RESPECT OF SHUTTING UP YOUR MOUTH!

"YES WE CAN"????
ONLY GOES TO SHOW YOU SHOULD HAVE BEEN DISCIPLINED MORE AS THE CHILD / INFANT YOU SOUND LIKE!

Larry   June 28th, 2008 4:53 pm ET

Should've been McCain in 2000, instead of Bush. Just like it should be Hillary in 2008 instead of Borat.

James Lyons(Peoria, IL)   June 28th, 2008 4:50 pm ET

And when did congress declare war on Iraq, Tejano? Did I miss something? Last time I checked, congress had never declared war on Iraq.
To Mr. McCain's credit, I don't agree with the liberal protesters in more than likely most of their views, and I certainly do not agree with the way they delivered their message. I do agree with their position against the war, albeit likely for different reasons.

Wendy Gonzalez Berkeley, CA   June 28th, 2008 4:45 pm ET

Even though this event was a celebration of the Latino community, the CODE PINK trash decided to make it about themselves and hijack the event. I could understand if this was a speech on Iraq or the military. This goes to show that with Code Pink, it is not about the troops, but getting media attention for themselves. What do you expect from an organization headed by someone with the first name "Medea" as in Medea Benjamin? Thank you to the presidential candidates for giving attention to the hispanic community, who WILL be a big voice in November. I may be from the socialist republic of Berkeley, but the racist Code Pink does NOT speak for me! Viva la raza!

For the last two 2:56pm crew,
I think it was hyperbole when saying Third World. At least I didn't read it as if they meant it literally. But, in terms of gov't size, it has increased in size and expenditures under the Republican held Congress from 2001 through 2006. It hasn't changed much in the last 18 months, and that's because President Bush is still spending $$ like a sailor on land. Lastly, good to know that Josh is a $250,000+ a year income earner. Otherwise, Senator Obama clearly lays out that his tax plan will drop tax rates for everone below $250,000.

And then, Al Qaeda forces here in America? Really, where?
This was probably just a misspeak. But if you look at any credible report in the last few days, the Taliban is getting really strong again in Pakistan. So, Bush took his eye off the prize in Afghanistan (the Taliban) and they're now escaping prisons and doing all sorts of crazy things. Why? Because we started an unnecessary war in Iraq.

I can bet that in about 100 years, George W. Bush will go down in history as one of our better presidents. Once Afghanistan and Iraq become successful democracies, Bush will deserve all the credit. Just think. He's the one who took down Sadaam Hussein, and he's the one who sent Osama Bin Laden into a cave, far removed from society.

Tejano… do you mean the Al Qaeda in D.C.? Bush and his thugs?

We should not be in Iraq! Period!

Rick   June 28th, 2008 4:31 pm ET

In 2000, I traveled to Michigan to work for McCain in the campaign. I lived in Wisconsin at the time.

As an Independent, he represented the sort of change and direction that the Republican party needed at that time.

But then, after 9/11 he decided to suck up to Bush and became a mainstream Republican (note that I did NOT say a mainstream Conservative.) His independence went out the window with his ideals.

I cannot and will not vote for him in 2008. Sadly, he has become a de facto clone of Bush and the other NeoCons.

elaine   June 28th, 2008 4:31 pm ET

With all of McCain experience he still voted for this stupid war…if this is what experience gets us than I'll go with Obama….he also thinks we were justified for having the Viet Nam war when history has proven that it to was a stupid war.

It doesn't appear the terrorist have been influenced by war either – failure to negotiate prior to invading Iraq was a mistake, however Bush and his cronies had a clandestine agenda that had nothing to do with terrorism or wmd. McCain, this war was based on lies and deception. Let the Heckling begin.

The GOP is truly out of gas(pun intended).

No doubt this will be spun into "Barack Obama supporters are peace fanatics, blah blah". Literally more of the same from the GOP.

Wouldnt be surprised if they were planted. McCain needs any attention he can get.

The GOP is a pale pathetic shadow of the great party it once was. And sadly, they know it.

McCain-in-4, Clarksburg, MD   June 28th, 2008 4:23 pm ET

Calling John McCain out on his Iraq War stance by every means possible is okay by me. We've seen EVERY protestor sidelined, marginalized and ridiculed by the current sitting President Bush. I can't find it in myself to be angry at people who just want their protestations known.

So, continue fighting the good fight Code Pink. Maybe get Cindy Sheehan to meet with John McCain and have her grief and concerns be known to the next (if elected, War) President.

But know this – John McCain is NOTHING like President Bush. Engage him with questions and debate him on his views of the next 4 years. You may even win the debate and change his mind – it's actually POSSIBLE with him. And that's the defining difference of Statemen like John Kennedy and Benjamin Franklin, compared with politicians like George Bush/Dick Cheney and Karl Rove.

Bayou Joe,

No offense, but did the facts presented above have absolutely no effect on your opinion? It isn't our job to go across the world and install democracies, just because their citizens do not share the same civil liberties our country still has. Our early leaders, some who wrote the constitution, instructed us against such action. George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and John Quincy Adams were all staunch opponents to foreign intervention.
The brave soldiers, your son included, are great patriots, however their patriotism and courage has been taken advantage of by politicians supporting and even advocating an unconstitutional foreign policy. The soldiers deserve better than that from our leaders, who also take an oath of office to defend the constitution.
The Islamic radicals you speak of would be better defeated not by our standing army, but by the lack thereof. A significant motivation factor for the hatred they harbor for us is our involvement in the political and military affairs of the Middle East. I think your statement about McCain continuing the fight in that region is correct, but the only reward we would get from this continued "war on terror" is more blowback.

REG in AZ   June 28th, 2008 4:11 pm ET

When George W. Bush told the American people, the world and the congress that there was sufficient justification for attacking Iraq, he lied. Today the American people realize that, just as the world has all along. When he said that American drugs brought back into the U.S. would be unsafe, he lied to support his position, as he did when he said Global Warming wasn’t a real problem. He lied, as did many others in his administration, when he said his administration had nothing to do with releasing the CIA agent’s identity and again when he stated that squelching the wiretapping story during an election year was done for national security reasons and not just for political reasons. When he offered that Afghanistan was relatively secure, the War on Terror was succeeding and it wasn’t a problem to focus instead on Iraq and then frequently again throughout the Iraq campaign he used ‘rational lies’ in reporting status. On and on, private accounts for Social Security, Tax Cuts for the wealthy, trade agreements resulting in exported American jobs and taxes, the humongous deficit isn’t a problem,,, George W. Bush and his staff have freely reverted to exaggerations, rationalizations, intentional deceptions,, simply lies while they pursued their own private agenda and now today everyone understands that to be the reality … but how often have we actually heard it said? When have you ever heard a reporter say, ‘Well the president (or his staff) has told another whopper today’? Not the media, not the Democrats, not any whistle blower with merit, not any responsible Republican with a conscience, not even any Christian or community leader, not anyone with credibility has ever come out and exposed or condemned the flagrant and arrogant lying that the Bush administration has so consistently indulged in. Why? Is there that much power behind them, to control the media and put fear in everyone else? And if that is true, where does that leave us? One by one, separately the individual lies can be taken and rationalized, covered over and explained using more lies but together they tell the real story … we are simply being taken for granted and repeatedly lied to. Maybe it is felt that calling them on their lies or disrespectfully calling the President a liar would serve no purpose and might even be counter-productive but, as we have drastically seen, that then only condones and encourages more of the same. It is well past time for change! We desperately need change from the Bush-Cheney abuse and private use of our government and we really need change from Washington as usual!

Brian   June 28th, 2008 4:10 pm ET

Poor manners and name calling are never the right approach. Calm, rational debate is what this Country needs. Let the ideas speak for themselves and take the hysteria out of the argument.

Kevin   June 28th, 2008 3:57 pm ET

I seem to remember most Americans supporting the war along with McCain and most of the senate. McCain does not want the situation in Iraq to continue but he fears a bloodbath if we pull out too fast, that is just common sense. Obama has not told us what he would do if he started bringing troops home and Iraq started to implode. I hope this question will be asked at one of the debates. Obviously it won't be at a town hall style debate because Obama is to afraid to attend these.

Drew, Appleton, Wisconsin   June 28th, 2008 3:57 pm ET

Sorry to say it folks, but heckling, booing and general incivility to the candidates isn't some phenomena of the past 20 years … it goes back to the days Washington nashed his wooden teeth in frustration at some loudmouth in the crowd.

The difference now is the saturated coverage of said incivility.

Ellie in Aurora, CO   June 28th, 2008 3:55 pm ET

PUMA women – Pay Attention! (That is, if you are not all republican chaos instigators in disguise!)

McCain has not been a friend to women his entire life! Including his current wife – read about the names he has called her in anger.

Bill Clinton disrespected Hillary about as much as any husband can, with his constand affairs and lies to her about them.

Obama treats Michelle like a queen, clearly loves and respects her.

Now, who do you want championing women's issues in the White House?

I don't even know why the media and others refer to the iraq adventure as a "War". Why not label it for what it really was…an invasion by a government with far superior military capabiliites than the vanquished….and for reasons that are rather transparent…..to seize control of an area of the world that some deem to be of strategic interest to us. Why not have an honest dialogue about it. I'm willing to listen to any conservative explain to me if it's morally justifiable for the US to abndon it's long history of only attacking countries who have attacked us first…and shifting to a new paradign, where we try and be proacative and remove govenmens whose leaders that we believe in the future could cause us problems. Maybe they have a legitimate point to make……But it least, let's discuss it honestly. By the way from a strictly legal point of view, does anyone out there know what the legal justiciation for the invasion was?

Shannon   June 28th, 2008 3:54 pm ET

Why are Obama supporters afraid to let anyone else talk, why do they hate all people that have a different viewpoint from them. Let McCain talk, either you will agree with him or you won't. This idea that we all have to walk in lock step with Obama is disturbing. If you don't agree with him you're a racist. It reminds me of the Bush regime, if you didn't agree with them you were a traitor. Come on Obama let people talk, tell your supporters to stop being so hate filled. Is this an example of how unite us.

This is why since age 18 I have voted the Independant Parties (Reform or Constitution Parties) right down the ballot. The two main players have spent more time bickering instead of working to fix the problems of Unemployment, Homelessness and Health Care Insurance. We need someone who is going to address things down the middle so it can include all of us regarless of our Political Beliefs.

Stop the yelliing and start the Voting!!!

I am all for PEACE. But do you peace heads know that peace comes at a price. Do you know that every day, there are fanatics out there plotting to do harm to us JUST BECAUSE…. what ever their own agenda may be.

Like it or not, you get to be the biggest power in the world (for now) not by playing nice, nice… You have to have the gumption to right what is wrong and to put yourself out there. Look at China, it is an economic powerhouse. Every country probably owes it money. It is not known as the most powerful country in the world BECAUSE it has no interest in any other country beyond itself. China could care less if other countries slaughter themselves up. You do not become a powerful country by standing on the side lines…

While other countries may hate us, know that this hate is by way of envy.

We are no longer an economic powerhouse,,,, we CANNOT afford NOT TO BE a Military powerhouse.

Wake up Bambi women… I am a woman myself, my husband was injured twice in Vietnam. I am not for war… but I know war is a NECESSARY evil.

Think about it, do you honestly our economy will maintain let alone flourish if we get another 9/11 ? Do you know if our malls were bombed by a suicide bomber (very easy to do, don't you think?), our infrastructure,, bridges, roads..bombed. etc… who will be out there
shopping and sustaining our economy. Would you be out there? Would tourist come here, Would you go shopping, or even take the bridge to work ?

Don't you know that every day some attack of some sort is thwarted without it coming to our public attention ?

All these anti war talk is well and good but don't you guys know that the era of peace heads don't work anymore.
I am not even a McCain supporter – my heart is with Hillary all the way and no I will not vote Obama the farce. Give McCain a chance to debate – have respect and hear what he has to say. At the end, vote to protect our country – she will protect us… we need a patriotic person for this Presidency.

This is an example of how democrats act in a dishonerable way??? I don't think so. How about republicans posing as life long democrats and starting up Anti Obama websites? That's dishonerable and cowardly. At least these women represented themselves and did a great job bringing to attention the war crimes this current addministration has done. This war was started on lies.

Republican strategy:
frear and smear

Obama is flip flopping again:
On the issues of Public funding, Iran, Nuclear Power, etc., etc., etc.

I thought his campaign was change, yet he exemplifies the same old Washington politics that he is trying to distance himself from.

I think he meant 'CHANGE MY POSITION ALL THE TIME'. That is change we can believe in because he has changed his position, and hence it is true he is flip flopping.

McCain '08 for Hillary '12

Paul in Dallas   June 28th, 2008 3:08 pm ET

I feel much the same as Charles above who wrote about the importance of civility. I too am a supporter of Senator Obama. I think the quality of discourse has descended very deep. "McBush" and "Obamabots" are really hateful words. These are peoples' names. We can all disagree and be civil. I don't agree with Senator McCain on very much at all, but do respect his views, his service to our nation. Both of these man are United States Senators and should be treated with a little bit of respect. It's as if we are at war with each other. Senator McCain and Senator Obama have much more respect for each other than do most of their supporters.

Yelling at a senior citizen is bad manners. So is calling a former commander in chief a 'lousy president' and then making a cornball comment about said former commander in chief 'kissing' another statesman.

Is it possible that we could all do with a deep breath and a step back?

It appears the latinos are now waking up to find Mcbush and the RNC wanting…

Please think   June 28th, 2008 3:07 pm ET

When Cheney is told 2/3 of Americans disagree with the war in Iraq he responds "SO…?!". When McCain is asked as President when he would began to withdraw troops he responds "I don't think that's too important right now…" The mindset is similiar. The last time McCain was heckled ( uh…last week) he said "My friends, I will never surrender in Iraq, never!"). What is winning Iraq? Finding WMDs, Killing Saddam Hussein and his sons, yanking down that statue, 80% reduction in violence, Sunni and Shia huggin' it out, getting all of the evil doers, insurgents, and al-queda out of the country? What is winning? Oh!! that's right…a forced democracy and no American casualities!! Please think. John McCain is telling America that he will not surrender until the forced democracy is in place and US troops can freely travel Iraq with no fear of IEDs or suicide bombers. Now, is that change we can believe in?

Kim   June 28th, 2008 3:06 pm ET

McBush better get used to it. This foolish war has cost thousands of young service persons to die needless deaths due to mismanagement by Bush. The war has ruined our economy. Put us a trillion dollars in debt. Made our dollar worthless. Driven up the price of gas by makeing the middle east unstable. Made Iran more powerfull by putting a Shiite Government in power. Wore down our military , both men and equipment. Caused our military to fall way behind in new equipment because all of the military budget pays for Iraq operations. Mean while, the real enemy, the ones who attacked on 911. Are still in Afghanistan and getting stronger every day. All this and McBush says we will stay in Iraq indefinitly. How stupid can one man be? We are just like the Soviet Union was in Afghanistan, Dumb!

Mike, Syracuse, NY   June 28th, 2008 3:06 pm ET

Why won't Obama take questions from the audience? Why won't Obama debate McCain? Answer; he knows if he does he'll get creamed like he did against Hillary. Well he can't hide forever.

I say both men, Mr Obama and McCain address this Latino group.

Barack was well recieved while the group was highly suspicious of John McCain.

Obama's much touted problems with hispanics would seem to be less than reported. Clearly he has work to do but the purported hold of Hillary Clinton on this constiuency was overstated.

Hey: DrMan,

Obama is over 40 years old. Had you somehow heard about Sadaam
Hussein 40 years ago? I don't know anybody who did. Hussein is a very common name in the Middle East, much like John is here. Obama's middle name has NO polical significance as all intelligent people know. Buffoons, of course, are excepted.

For those who are defending McCain in this blog, you obviously have not lost anyone in this stupid unnecessary war. I HAVE and those ladies probably have or will shortly. So unless you have someone over in Iraq fighting for his or her life while McBush takes the weekend off in his plush vacation retreat, safe and comfortable, shut the hell up. You have no right to put those women down.

Kevin   June 28th, 2008 2:48 pm ET

At least McCain has not changed his stance on the war, economy, taxes. His changes have been due to circumstances that need to be taken into account such as keeping tax cuts during down economic times and drill off-shore when oil is $140 a barrel. Obama just flip-flops when a poll tells him that his initial stance is not polling well. Then he comes out and tells voters what they want to hear followed up by a hope and change rendition. If you want to know how Obama really feels on issues, please look up his voting record in the Senate and in Illinois. Always has a partisan vote or does not vote.
Vote for the candidate who has 20 years EXPERIENCE working with both parties!!!!!

You have to be kidding me. If you want to see an even worse economy, an even worse healthcare problem then elect Barack Obama. His policies do nothing but increase taxes, increase the size and scope of government and he will not CHANGE one thing. He is a politician, they don't know how to change!

I hope this is a political expression for a politician who want to kill more young Americans at the expense of the same Americans to make profits to some WEALTHY people who never send their kids to any war zone.

I expect the democrats are going to defeat this war monger McCain by more than 25 points in November.

Ron, terrorists are not shaken by words. You are correct there. However terrorists are moved by actions. Such as foreign policies that oppress their peoples, beliefs, ideas, or rape their resources. The sooner conservatives realize we need to have dialogue with other nations, including those we dont agree with, the sooner the terrorists will realize that we may be looking for positive solutions, not aggressive solutions, and start to tame their rhetoric.

street gangs rule some neighborhoods because of conservative laws regarding gun control and regulation, not because of liberal laws such as the 3 strike law. No access to guns for anyone would eliminate guns for thugs as there would be none to steal or buy illegally from upstanding conservative citizens. Social programs and education would uplift impoverished large swaths of impoverished people from the circle of violence in which they seem to be hopelessly stuck in. Christian values teach us to help our fellow man regardless of their ills. Consevatism has very little to do with christian values. Give your neighbor a hand up!

While the anti-war sentiments are worth noting, heckling is not the way to have this done. Hopefully, the individuals doing so did not think they were helping OBAMA by their cheap behaviour and hopefully, they were not perceived as being his supporters because they were not. They may even have been his detractors trying to get him some bad press.

Your comment partially reads "how many terrorist attacks have there been since bush went after them"

I am sick and tired of hearing this statement – knowing it to be patently untrue that there have been no attacks on our soil since 9/11. The properly way to phrase it is: There has been no "reported" attacks of terrorism on USA soil since 9/11 — there has been numerous attacks and coverups. Just a couple of weeks ago at least two US air liners, on US soil had missile attempts on them … where is the media??

Let's face it – our media is an extension of a corrupt Bush government. I'd like to see someone tackle that little issue. McBush – I can't hear you …

THE TOURIST.
FOREIGN POLICY IS SOMETHING THAT IS AN EXPERIENCE GAINED FROM CONTACT WITH WORLD LEADERS, MEETING THEM
PERSONALLY AND TALKING ON WIDE RANGING TOPICS AFFECTING ALL NATIONS AND THEIR PROBLEMS. OBAMA CAN GET A LOT OF FOREIGN POLICY EXPERTS FOR HIS ADVISORS
IF HE BECOMES PRESIDENT. AT THE MOMENT EVEN AS THE PRESUMPTIVE DEMOCRATIC NOMINEE, TAKING A TRIP TO EUROPE AND THE MIDDLE EAST IS , TO US , JUST A TOURIST TRIP.

James Lyons(Peoria, IL)   June 28th, 2008 2:29 pm ET

The important question to ask, Ron, is WHY are the terrorists trying to attack us? It's the same reason Iran held our hostages in the early 50's, and it is the same reason that the group of Saudi's savagely murdered our family members and countrymen nearly seven years ago. It's called blowback. As defined by the CIA, the term "blowback" means the unintended consequences of foreign intervention. And that is not blaming those events on the americans. To say that it is would be arguing with logical fallacy.
And part of the reason we have those ghettos you speak of is because our executive and legislative branches are too busy borrowing money to immediately spend on a foreign policy that calls for nearly a trillion dollars a year to maintain our empire. Imagine what a fraction of that money could do, if used to secure our borders and constitutionally improve the quality of life within our own country.

Let me make this clear: I don't support this war. I too want us to withdraw. I disagree with McCain's ideas on this issue.

However, you radical left knee-jerkers are NOT HELPING! By acting in such disrespectful manner you marginalize the anti-war movement, displaying how they are all just psychotic radicals with no respect for other people's opinions.

Please "disagree WITHOUT being disagreeable!"

Rusty, Portland   June 28th, 2008 2:28 pm ET

Is appeasement better?—–watch—-Obama will, through his appeasement of Iran and Al Qaeda bring suicide bombers and roadside bombs to your neighborhood—–

Did you ever ask yourself why they are not here now? Only Bush's policy of pursuing Al Qaeda everywhere has kept them from our cities—-

If you don't believe that then tell us why they are not here.

billy   June 28th, 2008 2:27 pm ET

Hecklers have a purpose. They remind us not to believe so blindly and perhaps make better choices. John McCain is not the best choice the GOP could make, looking at the other choices e.g. Mitt Romney..this was a good choice. John does not stand a chance in light of his support for an unpopular and useless war in Iraq.

Why is it always the liberal far-left that thinks they can disrupt decent political discourse by heckling, interrupting, and chanting slogans?
They disrupted the republican convention in 2004. They repeatedly disrupted Hillary's rallies as well as townhall meetings as well as her daughter's (apparently they have no respect for their own either), and now they finally are disrupting McCain as well.

Yes, they have every right to express their opinion. But one can indeed "disagree without being disagreeable." And interrupting someone else's discourse shows utter lack of respect for other people's opinion. McCain too has a right for expression! And by infringing on it with such heckling you aren't gaining any sympathy!

Nick in Ca   June 28th, 2008 2:23 pm ET

Why do the hecklers have to be Obamas doing. He sure doesn't engage in those types of activities. And why does someone always have to bring up race. He is as much white as black and we should be looking way beyond that by now. But I do agree John McCain (note I have been a republican for over 30 years) is not going to give the changes we need. MCcain needs war that is his purpose in life. that and spending , crypt keeper's money AKA cindy mccain

TF   June 28th, 2008 2:22 pm ET

I think instead of heckling him they should try to give him an Economy 101 book as a gift. There is a figure out there that this war has cost us 400 billion dollars. That figure is the estimate it will cost to replace all the equipment that has been damaged from the desert sand and over use. We also need 32,000 more soldiers to replace the ones that have been over used and abused as well. Can you spell draft? Hey your kids aren't as dumb as you repubs; they see the writing on the wall more war equals another draft. Maybe GWB can teach then how to dodge it on his lecture tour that will start in 215 days.

So now tell me how safe are we. Can the US even afford to defends its own land is we need to. Maybe that's why they want hand guns on the streets of DC. So we can defend ourselves because the Gov will be to broke to do it for us. 2012 is coming are you ready for the end of the world (The Mayan Calendar has yet to be wrong)?

McCained Into A Stupor   June 28th, 2008 2:21 pm ET

I don't think heckling that way is a very effective tactic. For one thing, it serves to break the tedious monotony of a speech by McCain. I say, let him speak without interruption, and his supporters will be stupified into helpless inactivity.

A Concerned Citizen   June 28th, 2008 2:20 pm ET

Yep, that is McCain for you. Supports the war in Iraq, knows nothing about the economy and likes things the way they are. Now he pretends to care about global warming, I guess the polls say he should.

Heres to a president with real courage and resolve. Oh and who actually wants to fix this country, not just fight an idiotic war.

For those of you who forgot 911 already, it isn't about "peace", its about keeping the trouble "over there". There will NEVER be peace with Islamic Nutcases. They will kill you if you don't "convert". Understand? They want to obliterate Israel, a sovereign nation. Understand? How about if they wanted to obliterate all Latinos? Would you "get it" then? Put yourself in someone else's shoes for about 10 seconds, then make an intelligent decision. I don't support the war in Iraq. I don't support ANY war. I believe dialog is best, but unfortunately that will never work with people who sware death to you if you don't do what they want. You should thank God you live in America, and shut up. Take a deep breath and let your brains catch up with your mouth, if you have any.

I regret the lost of any soilder's live in this war in Iraq, a war that was and is being waged without just cause. I find it difficult accept that a presidential candidate can justify the lost of hundreds or thousands of more lives so that the lost of previous lives would not have been in vain. I can not and will not accept this line of reasoning. We need to get out of Iraq in an orderly manner ASAP. We have serious matters at the home front that require immediate attention. All of our National Guard troops should be sent home immediately.

I am an Obama supporter. I watched this on CSPAN. I felt sorry for Senator McCain. He should be allowed to speak so everyone can understand where he stands on the issues. I only want informed voters this year. After both candidates speak, the choice would be clear.

Mabey there is no point in shouting your opinion? It may not change anything, but every person in this country is entitled to his or her own opinion. I commend those women for their courage! I am a nutural party, I am choosing to vote for Obama because he is the better candidate in my"opinion" On the other hand I am an Arizona resident, and i support McCain, I belive he is a very geniune and kind person, he is an excellent senator! But I feel he will not be a suitable president.

MaryL- Ca   June 28th, 2008 2:02 pm ET

There is a lot of frustration with McCain's views on the war. If McCain wants to excel in the election, he needs to change direction on critical issues and listen to the people.

Farrell, Houston, Tx   June 28th, 2008 2:00 pm ET

It you haven't seen through John McCain by now you never will. Think about it because McCain attempts to talks about issues of concern because Obama does. McCain's only interest is to continue war and if for one moment you think on Day 1 if he were president he would revert right back to the same and nothing, absolutely nothing will be done to improve Americans lives. McCain will shut Americans up just like Bush did because he is Bush all over again. Don't let McCain fool you.

Rich   June 28th, 2008 1:57 pm ET

I'm glad Bush/Cheney/Rove didn't think about reinstating the Sedition or Alien Acts because probably we couldn't be talking about Obama or the next president. They would silence all talk against the war as disloyal. As they insure the dictatorship they wish they could have installed. Sorry, but I think free speech should allow dissenters to come forward. I'm a loyal American, but think the 'war' in Iraq was a crazy idea that Cheney/Rove thought up (Bush isn't bright enough to come up with something this dumb). Too many lives have been lost on made up claims without any thought to what to do when you've won. Even in WWII, the government had a government (albeit military) to run Germany and eventually hand it back. It worked fairly well. But did our great leaders think this through? Nope, Rumsfield though we would be greeted with flowers.

Time for change, Time for REAL change. Obama '08

jimntat   June 28th, 2008 1:56 pm ET

I find it so funny how Republicans call Obabam…B.Hussein Obama, like DrMan did in an above post. They don't get that their scare tactics don't work anymore. Turn on FOX News and hear at just about any given moment how Obama isn't like "us." It were not so scary, it would be entertaining. These tactics did work in the past and brought us Bush for 8 years. They must think we are as stupid as they are!

Debo   June 28th, 2008 1:55 pm ET

Let's get to the coverage of the Obama presentation before this group: that the audience was in rapture, because Obama talked about real problem solving not game show solutions nor patriotic platitudes. Obama will get at least 70% of the Latino community vote.

JohnLee   June 28th, 2008 1:50 pm ET

We do have freedom of speech. If politicians would actually listen to the citizens of America, than maybe people wouldn't have to resort to things like this. If you're going to stand up for the rights of all citizens, this type of action is just as valid as McBush trying to speak!

ELLIOT   June 28th, 2008 1:50 pm ET

These hecklers are no better then the demonstrators who stopped the FL recount in 2000 (by banging on the doors of the counting station). Why must our country go from one extreme to the other? These hecklers disgraced their cause and country.

Fella from Chicago   June 28th, 2008 1:49 pm ET

First of all it's Senator John McCain, not McBush. Otherwise we might have to start referring to Senator Obama as CarBama after the most spineless President who ever sat in the White House; the Democrat Jimmy Carter. I've noticed no protrusion where a spine should be in Obama. Lastly, did anyone check if these three heckler's had green cards or not? The Democratic Congress which has the lowest rating in US history hasn't secured our borders as promised and many illegals are finding themselves able to cross and apparently infiltrating these conferences with ease.

Jags   June 28th, 2008 1:49 pm ET

McCain=War? McCain wants the war done as much as we all do but he also wants to make sure that we dont ruin what has already been achieved. Obama says he can have the troops out in 16 months. Admirable, no doubt there. But shortsighted. The violence will increase as troops are withdrawn and without the backup of the troops that have been taken out, more troops will die resulting in a faster withdrawl leaving a country of violence and a government without the strength to stop it. We will see even more attacks on the US and less stability in the middle east if this happens. Then war will really happen, then Obama will have no choice but to send them back in after promising to remove them and he will be called a liar for doing such. Maybe going over there was wrong in the first place, but I agree that we do need to make sure it doesnt become worse by turning tail and running.

McCain-in-4, Clarksburg, MD   June 28th, 2008 1:48 pm ET

Tell us more about how much civil political discourse matters, John. How much discourse was there, when Bush sent our troops to Iraq to find nonexistent WMD, and decided to *keep us there* regardless? Or when Bush decided the Constitution didn't mean much, and that it would be just fine to data-mine our phone calls? Or when Bush, Gonzales and Rove thought it a prudent practice to fire attorneys for the sheer fact that they were democrats, or elected by democrats? Or when FEMA houses disaster survivors in FORMALDEHYDE TRAILERS? They can't even store ICE right! Where did civil political discourse get us then?

Please, someone tell me more about how effective political discourse is.

As disrespectful as the protesters might have been, and they were, it dosen't take from the fact that this McCain guy is a warmonger and will lead us to many more wars.

JustADude   June 28th, 2008 1:33 pm ET

Well…..thats what happens when you support a War nobody wants.

Chiswald   June 28th, 2008 1:32 pm ET

Most Americans are against this war, so when the pro war candidate is heckled, it deserves news coverage.

Marty FL   June 28th, 2008 1:32 pm ET

I wish McCain would follow his own advice and lead by example when he says, "…respecting the dignity and rights of citizens…" His remarks towards former President Carter were hardly what many Americans would consider dignified or respectful for a person seeking the highest office in this nation.

When Obama makes a point, he at least conducts himself as a statesman by agreeing to disagree.

Here is an example: I can understand the frustration these protesters were feeling towards the war; however, heckling someone during a speech is not the most constructive way to handle it.

I believe Obama has a responsible approach to bringing the Iraq war to an end so that we can use our resources more constructively going after the ones who attacked us and controlling threats where they originate in Afghanistan.

One more reason that I am a Democrat who will be voting for McCain.

Franky   June 28th, 2008 1:30 pm ET

Roger   June 28th, 2008 1:29 pm ET

They were nothing but Obama supporters. Why dosn't CNN just come out and say it. They actually did the same stunts during Hillary's campaigns. Someone should go to Obama's campaigns and yell "Shut up fool! Your a liar and a conman. You are a muslim and you deny it. You was a member of a racist, anti-American church for twenty years." What else is there that we will learn about Obama that is reason not to vote for him. How can his supporters be so blind? Vote for McCain for 100 years of war? He has a son in the war. Don't you think that he dosn't want to be in war. McCain will raise gas prices to $10? McCain was the first to suggest lower gas prices over the holidays. He is the one who is promoting more fuel efficient vehicles and less dependance on foreign oil. What's Obama going to do about the gas prices? I would like to see him walk on water before he gets my vote.

Also, I think the anti-abortion groups shouldn't disrupt Obama's speeches, because, as much as I'm against abortion, to disrupt a speech is very rude, and it just wastes time. NALEO and many others will heckle and boo McCain because he IS a war-monger. He lives, breathes, and sleeps war. This is his primary solution to everything and people are tired of it !

He needs to spend that much energy in better education, healthcare, energy, economy, etc. policies. But of course he falls very short in these areas, because he is a weak and loose cannon. I hope America doesn't get this election year wrong and elect McCain, because if so nothing would change – the American people's lives will NOT get better – all he is capable of doing is to pursuing some kind of war, and it will be with Iran.

It's time for REAL change in Washington, it's time to elect Barack Obama for president !

Many people, among whom women are numbered disproportionately, seem to think that a particular candidate will bring "peace."

He is a war monger and with his unstable mind, lack of proper hearing(he is a deaf as a post) he needs to stay put on the Senate floor.. preferably taking a nap.

Belle2   June 28th, 2008 1:03 pm ET

And Obama's rude and hateful supporters start again. If he cannot calm them down and make them more respectful of others and their opinions, the American people need to think long and hard about why he is not willing to stop the hatred and animosity. Maybe he inspires this hatred and animosity on purpose.

A nightingale Sings in Berkley Square   June 28th, 2008 1:02 pm ET

The problem with those idiots and others of the same ilk is that they never ask the question what would happen if we departed?

We need a public discussion on what may happen if we leave Iraq, covering all the advantages and disadvantages.

If we would have had this, maybe bush and the neo's wouldn't have invaded. But we are there and we need a national discourse of some of our bright people.

Colin Powell said it's like the guy in the china closet dropping a cup. If you break it, you buy it.

So let's get Powell, some others and Shinsecki and try to find an intelligent, honorable way out of this mess. I think McCain can do that and I don't think the empty suit can.

McSameMcCain on myspace   June 28th, 2008 1:02 pm ET

For the record, John, you'd make a lousy president as well. And I have a picture of you on my myspace account that shows you hugging up on W like you are sweethearts so what is up with you dissing Carter. You are a lousy human being, and the way you treated your first wife is typical of your low morals.

I for one, as an American citizen; I'm sick of, all the pandering;of both candidate's; to Latinos in this country and Mexico, over immigration in this Nation. When will somebody, have the "Balls, to protect America"; and enforce "Our" laws, on the books; against such invasion, that has gone on for too long. That would be real, Leadership and Change; both that this Nation is lacking; at this time, Our "policies" toward Mexico is a "Joke"; its a "third world country"……………………………….Get real!!!!!!!! America, is not "for sale"; merely for votes? Is she?

What? John is actually doing something besides "resting his old self" on the weekend?

His response to dissent it typical "it's a long walk out" is the same BS that this person has used as a congressman. He thinks he is better than anyone who disagrees with him. He is an old man, he is pro war and will work to kill more of our real heroes. Just because he was unable to fly a plane and avoid being shot down does not make him a hero now or then.

Give it up John, you couldn't even beat W.

And quit working on the weekends or you won't have the energy to make it to November.

John Mccain needs another veitnam , He see's the middle East as a way of getting something back he lost , like maybe his sanity. Sean hannity is a Racist.

Joe the Troll   June 28th, 2008 12:57 pm ET

I hate to see this type of boorish behavior anywhere, but then I think of the way this happened repeatedly to Kerry in 2004. I also remember that in that same election, no one who disagreed with Bush or Cheney could get within a mile of where they were speaking. Perhaps McCain should start making people sign loyalty oaths as they walk in, like the person he wants to replace.

So, while I can't defend this behavior, I also can't see the Republicans as having any room to complain.

Let me give you some advice old man river; we need fresh ideas to solve todays problems….. The hecklers couldn't be more right! I don't care how bad the Clinton-cultists and other pseudo-liberals hate Obama, McCain will be the death of this country. The right-wing nutjobs have been in power for far too long and have virtually DESTROYED our constitution and government. Yeah … promote free trade to the auto unions some more … tell them they have to re-train or become jobless because the ultra-rich just sold your job to China for slave-labor prices … just to make themselves MORE rich. Yeah … do that more McCain …

No matter what the point there is no need for heckling anyone even those we disagree the most with. But, of course, this is a sign of things to come with Obama and his legion of followers… they will drown out freedom of speech and the right to disagree.

Cindy,CA   June 28th, 2008 12:53 pm ET

Sounds like what happened to Hillary will now be happening to McCain. He will not have as much money to campaign as Obama will. We know how that worked out. I am sick and tired of the constant rudeness…

Greg from Big Island   June 28th, 2008 12:52 pm ET

That happens. People can voice their opinion, but rudely. They probably will do the same to Obama, but not as much. Obama is not very popular with Hispanic, but will win a majority of them 60-40.

Cathy in MD   June 28th, 2008 12:52 pm ET

The picture of McCain on the CNN Politics homepage has got to be a joke. McCain’s head is blocking out the A, L and E in NALEO, leaving only the letters N and O to either side of him. Pretty funny, after he referred to Obama as “Dr. No.” What goes around, comes around.

jim simpson   June 28th, 2008 12:52 pm ET

The original story contained the following paragraph:' During the question and answer session, Mccain was asked if immigration reform would be one of his priorities in the White House. He responded"It will be my top priority- yesterday, today and tomorrow"

I believe that answer is more pertinent than some screwball protesters

Lyz in MD   June 28th, 2008 12:52 pm ET

Now, let's try to see it from McCain's perspective. He has so few supporters, he can't afford to screen people as carefully as he would have liked if he wants it to look like he has any support at all. So a few representatives of the majority slipped through. What about all the people there who weren't smart enough to know that McCain would continue Bush's disastrous policy until we have no military left at all?

It's so like the liberal media to focus on the few intelligent people who got into the McCain rally instead of the 20 or 30 brain-damaged cranks that he did muster.

Lisa   June 28th, 2008 12:51 pm ET

John McWar and President Bush, we want our troops home!!! The war in Iraq is already lost. We lost the war with our economy and still hurting from it. This was President Bush war and the American people will not forgive him for that. I just want the world to know we did not believe in this war, it was just wrong. I hope you will forgive us, we had no control over President Bush decision. He was more like a dictator than a President.

I watched both men–McCain & Obama. No comparison. Obama won hands down. I am an Obama supporter even though I am a republican from AZ! McCain is tooooo old and he talks like an old man. No energy and he was booed. A lot of us AZ residents do not like McCain. He has done nothing for us. NO "pork" and we sent him to Washington to get us a little "pork"! He's old and very sad when he talks. Almost like he need to sit down or take a nap. I'm also 64 and ready to retire. I DO NOT want anyone any older than I am trying to take care of me. There comes a time in life when we turn things over to our children. This was God's plan and why does McCain think he can fight that. Obama was more detailed in his answers and his web site is soooo much more detailed.

Jan from Michigan   June 28th, 2008 12:51 pm ET

You bloggers who criticized McCain for saying that Carter was a lousy president should listen to a few of the speeches from your exalted democratic candidate calling President Bush every derogatory name he can think of. I don't hear any of the horrified-"how can Obama stoop so low?" comments that you have used on Senator McCain. Since you have no Clinton to kick around anymore (she has joined your Obama"s team and they have kissed and made up), I guess you only have Senator McCain–so have fun on your blog sites. You all really should look in the mirror and see "hypocrite" on your foreheads. By the way, just because you bloggers monopolize this site does not mean your man is ahead–just means you are probably blogging while the rest of us work!

when will the obama supporters understand that the terrorist of this world are not influenced by words. the reason you can walk freely in this country is because you have the protection of the law enforcement. there are many area's in this country where street gangs rule, killing and terrorizing their neighbourhoods protected by bleeding heart laws that tie the laws hands and discourage people from coming forward to testify.it's easy to shoot your mouth off when your living in a upscale neighbourhood protected by the police try that in a slum area.how many terrorist attacks have there been since bush went after them.vote for who you want but don't ever think that diplomacy will prevent people that are willing to kill their own women and children as well as themselves will respond to anything but force. once they know the consequences then they'll want to negotiate. obama did not invent negotiations it's been around since the beginning of time. remember JF kennedy negotiated with kruschev but it was the threath of force that made him leave Cuba

MCAIN TAKING CREDIT FOR THE GI BILL'S EDUCATION BILL HE OPPOSED DEFINITELY SHOULD BE MSM NEWS. Remember McCain you reap what you sow.

Matthew   June 28th, 2008 12:39 pm ET

I am suprised that there were not more protestors in there. McCain has stood side by side with Bush on 95% of his votes this year and 100% last year. He is a flip flooper and has not really released too much substance on his 5 1/2 years as a POW. The son of a Navy Admiral is captured after he crashes a 5th naval plane. The Vietnamese knew who they had and I believe that he was not tortured nearly as bad as the unknown, unpoliticsized POW was.

Hispanic for John McCain. The Hispanic community in New York mainly the Puertorican Nation will support John McCain. They are serveral puertorican supporting OBAMA Like Congressman Jose Serrano and a couple more, but the majority of the Puerto Rican will support Jon McCain. Just ask the folks in the Bronx, they do not trust OBAMA and that OBAMA all he did was take all the money and run! The Cuban in FL will go to McCain, the Mexican in AR will go to McCain, the mexican in CA, TX, NV, NM, CO. will all go to John McCain. The media and the Democrate Liberal all they want is to start a war between Blacks and Hispanic. This election 2008 latinos will support John McCain, because he bring better issues to this great country of ours. Many of Clinton supported amoung the Hispanic will vote for John McCain!!!!!!! not OBAMA!!! He present the the liberals.

Let People be People   June 28th, 2008 12:35 pm ET

I may not care for the politics of McCain, but he as we should be allowed to voice his position without interruptions. That being said, the war in Iraq that wants to continue has already been lost. We will never be able to replace the 4000 American lives. I for the life of me can't understand why anyone would put faith and trust in an individual who wants to continue policies that have led to where we are now. Misled into a war that has killed thousands of God's children, deregulation that has allowed gas prices to skyrocket and add more harm to the poorest of us, deregulation that has caused the housing crisis……..etc

This is a very dismal time for us…..who can deliver us from ourselves?

He has the first hand experience in the cruelty of what one human being can do to others. He will be the only president in decades that knows what wars are. He will not send our men and women in harm's way if it's not absolutely necessary.

I may disagree with him on some issues, but Senator McCain is not for wars.

Hang in there, John! You're a good man and a solid, experienced candidate. You're plain-spoken, no fancy empty rhetoric, and since you say it the way it is, you are often criticized. It's just like with Hillary, so many Obama supporters never heard what she had to say or understood her record. They simply denigrated her to help build up their candidate. It's a sad state of affairs, but. . .please keep getting your message out (and let us see some more of that sense of humor once in a while).

You follow the path of the worst president in the history of this country and you want our support. Time for you to retire. As for your comment about serving our country for a long time, I would respect that if you did it gratis and took no money or other gratuity for your service…..but you didn't, you were well paid…very well paid, I wish I had the opportunity "to serve" in our government like you have. I can vote on bills too or follow the party line. We may never return to the honorable position this country held in the world before the invasion of Iraq so we've done ourselves a disservice there. In addition, with all the miles and miles of concrete barriers and checkpoints in Baghdad and other parts of Iraq how can these people ever feel free?? It's time for change, and you won't be a part of it. Accept that fact and you'll be a lot better off for it.

I don´t agree with many of the stances that John Mc Cain has taken recently and will not support him for president, but I find it very troubling that people are so rude to a heckle a candidate for having different opinions. People have a right to voice their opinions in a civilzed manner. He was given a format in which to speak and voice those opinions and so have others who have opposing ones. It is not imperative to drown out another opinion with your own. If both arguments are given equal time and respect, the better opinion will always win out. It is my hope that my fellow countrymen and women as well as CNN will bring back some civility and honor to politics. This is not a sporting event; treating politics in this manner only cheapens and distorts our democracy.

Chris in NY   June 28th, 2008 12:20 pm ET

Every event is bound to have a nut or two eager to get attention. Sounds like McCain handled it well.

Obama: 2nd Term Carter   June 28th, 2008 12:20 pm ET

Protest are one good thing about the USA. It is done mant times to both running. It must be a slow news day.

patrick   June 28th, 2008 12:19 pm ET

LMAO, if John Mccain is watching Obama's reception to the NALEA conference, then he should REALLY be sick to his stomach. Now what Obama got was what you call a excited and warm reception.

John Mccain…..what happened??

LOL

Venus   June 28th, 2008 12:19 pm ET

This is why McSame like to stage his townhall meetings that way he doesn't have to deal with protesters!

Go Bam!

Greg FL.   June 28th, 2008 12:19 pm ET

He supports the war and that is a fact. I also believe he will come up with some more excuses why we have to stay there if he's elected. A vote for McCain is a vote for a continuation of a war policy in the Middle East.

Anonymous   June 28th, 2008 12:19 pm ET

and it starts…

Guy Kasweka, Toronto   June 28th, 2008 12:18 pm ET

I hope McCain sympathizes with the Hecklers. War was a bad idea from the start and it's still is now. McCain=Bush so far

Liberals hate free speech   June 28th, 2008 12:18 pm ET

Don't like your ideas? We'll shout you down.

So much for public discourse. Disgusting.

Moderates Unite!   June 28th, 2008 12:18 pm ET

Code Pink wackos….what a bunch of idiots

K   June 28th, 2008 12:17 pm ET

Yes McCain would like it if people stopped yelling and just shut up and do as he says

patrick   June 28th, 2008 12:16 pm ET

Why am i not surprised?, Hell i would have applauded the women myself. John Mccain is pandering to the Latino community and that is the ONE thing the Hispanic community does know and beleive about Mccain. As much as Mccain is touted as a war hero and maverick, i truly beleive it could be a issue that could lose him this election in November.

Piece of advice to Mccain….

As loyal as hispanics have been to fighting for this country, proposing a lengthy war along with proposing tightening immigration laws does not = latino vote!

Peachy Keen   June 28th, 2008 12:16 pm ET

The truth hurts doesn't it John. Sadly, it is hurting the American people. Thankfully, you will be out of our hair the first week of November.

Ethel   June 28th, 2008 12:15 pm ET

McCain is out of touch with American voters. We want him to go away and enjoy his retirement. Barack Obama is clearly the candidate of "this time". Republicans should think about what is best for this country and join the Obama movement. It is a clear indication of "power hungry" for John McCain. The state of this nation is worse due to people like McCain who want to lead us for personal gain without consciously considering the well being of all.

R.O.B.   June 28th, 2008 12:14 pm ET

Aww, poor John McCain. haha

OBAMA '08

Cathy in MD   June 28th, 2008 12:13 pm ET

McCain has been heckled a number of times during his campaign. Instead of “laughing it off,” maybe he should take a moment to listen. There are some angry customers who don’t like the service. He apparently prefers to dismiss them.

Alex   June 28th, 2008 12:11 pm ET

that is why foreign nations love obama, most people do not want wars, bah

TEXAN   June 28th, 2008 12:10 pm ET

That's it Latinos…stand up and speak up ! Mc Cain is not the right man for President ! He will not fairly represent ALL Americans. Look at all the issuses. Obama is the RIGHT man for President. Latinos unite and elect Obama !

Bob, Hamilton   June 28th, 2008 12:09 pm ET

McCain shouldn't have said to the woman- "tha's a long trip out' ( from here). That's the kind of sarcasm that aspiring future President should not have. His age is speedily manifesting itself in everything he says nowadays. AMERICANS MUST TAKE NOTE OF THAT!

Shame on McCain!

Lisa Salt Lake City, Utah   June 28th, 2008 12:08 pm ET

McCain has been absent from his job that he actually is paid by the people to do. He is traveling M-F on our dime, and taking his weekends off. McCain ego before doing his job.

Doc   June 28th, 2008 12:07 pm ET

He is just soooo dull.

Mike, Syracuse, NY   June 28th, 2008 12:07 pm ET

It figures Obama supporters don't have the courtesy to let him speak. It's time for Obama to stop hidng and join McCain at a town hall meeting.

No Hillary Gore VP   June 28th, 2008 12:06 pm ET

I hope he brought along his right and left elbow men to remind him each time he makes an error since he cannot remember what he said five minutes after saying it.
What a Mc Looser

Scott C   June 28th, 2008 12:05 pm ET

It is only a matter of time until someone heckles him when he isn't in a great mood and people will see him erupt in an angry firestorm on stage, and show people he is a maniac.

This speaks to the chances he has of winning in November, how many times has he been heckled so far? 20+ times?

Obama? Zero…

I guess though it is easier to hear hecklers at a McCain rally of 20 people than it is at an Obama rally of 1,100 or more.

carepi   June 28th, 2008 12:05 pm ET

ok, first af all he has not mention how he will pay for any of his ideas or proyects, second, he has been in the senate for how long now?, and what has he done to help latinos or inmigrants?, what has he done for arizona? of course all of the sudden he is commited… tha's just B.S. but it's only my opinion.

look at both candidates and the solutions for the issues we have. make your own mint.

Latino brothers, no matter who you vote for, what it wil matter is that you can go out and show that you are one of us, that you can exercise the right to vote, and that you can have a voice in this country of laws.

on november go out and show our freedom, Vote!

Juntos podemos cambiar el destino de nuestro pais, USA!

Ex-mod-GOP for Obama   June 28th, 2008 12:01 pm ET

OK, I'm not a McCain fan (anymore) either, but let's be civil. This doesn't help Obama or anyone else.

Linda   June 28th, 2008 11:58 am ET

" I have served all my adult life"…John McCain is caught in a time wrap.

Citizen   June 28th, 2008 11:58 am ET

Peace protesters versus an old man with a bad attitude? Yep, there is a chance that things will end well.

tigerakabj   June 28th, 2008 11:52 am ET

Speaking objectively, McCain better get used to this. If the MSM won't hold him accountable, people like these will. Everything the hecklers said was true.

He doesn't care about anything except how to please the xtreme right and the 100 lobbyists running his campaign. He voted 95% like Bush and Obama is going to cream him when he starts debating him face to face. McCain, get ready to head back to Arizona come November.

Michelle   June 28th, 2008 11:52 am ET

McCain is strong enough to handle it.

Obama would be whining and playing the race card.

Fred Meseck   June 28th, 2008 11:35 am ET

I can't believe this! John McCain has flip-flopped once again! I am watching McCain's address to the Latino community in Wahsington, and I hear him object to Congress going home when people are losing their homes, inplying that Congress should be doing something to help the people impacted by the sub-prime mortgage crisis. This is the same guy who, only months ago, told Americans that they should get a second job and give up vacations so they can keep their homes, effectively removing govenrment help from the table.

Don't let him get away with that! "Keep him honest.!"

CNN rocks!

georgia jones   June 28th, 2008 11:35 am ET

You mean he is fianlly working a weekend? He better not over do it! LOL!

PG   June 28th, 2008 11:33 am ET

Working on the weekend! Man, better get some super power energy drinks ready for McSame!

It IS funny, right?   June 28th, 2008 11:32 am ET

McCain laughing off war protesters? Hmmmm….sounds very familiar. Cheney and Bush find them hilarious, too. Yes, John, the whole thing is just one big belly laugh. Good luck on your campaign. And that floor plan you keep in your pocket of the living quarters at the White House? That's as close as you'll ever get.

Susan   June 28th, 2008 11:31 am ET

Sen. McCain promised to run a decent campaign. He has flipflopped on that by allowing his surrogates speak for him, then does not repudiate not only their terrorist statemnets, but racist statements. He takes no responsibility for his surrogates, and cannot be entrusted to be a man of his word. Republicans should all be ashamed that they caanot run a campaign on issues, but on innuendo and slurs. There is no way this man would ever be my President. Same on the Republican House!

Ilona Proud Canadian   June 28th, 2008 11:28 am ET

John McCain,

This is what happens WHEN YOU CANNOT FILL THE ROOM WITH YOUR PLANTS!

On THREE SEPARATE OCCASIONS, during one single speech, John McCain was heckled BIG TIME! This is why he only wants to address 150-300 people at his Town Halls. In his Town Hall addresses he is well known to plant his special interest supporters, but, put him in front of strangers and boy he really had to cut his SPEECH SHORT!

Ellie   June 28th, 2008 11:25 am ET

Ohhhhhh NOW he decides to WORK on weekends? Ha! ha! This just keeps getting more hilarious by the minute. He's gonna be worn out come Monday. John McCain KNOWS he's NO match for Sen. Obama and Sen. Clinton, let's just keep in REAL okay?

Say whatever you want, think whatever you wanna think…but the reality is, John McBush is NO MATCH for the dynamic duo Obama and Clinton!!!

Bush the Third   June 28th, 2008 11:20 am ET

We Don't Want You McCain!!!!

My husband fought in Iraq and believes you would be a terrible mistake as president and would not resolve the war in Iraq.

We don't want a flip-flopping, war mongering, adulterous president.

No thank you. No McCain, Not This Time!

Cynthia   June 28th, 2008 11:20 am ET

I bet he wishes he had taken this weekend off. This must be different than his town hall meetings.

DOH!!!   June 28th, 2008 11:18 am ET

John McCain- No se puede

Cathy in MD   June 28th, 2008 11:15 am ET

“Arizona senator?” “Busy weekend?” “On Sunday?” You mean, Arizona senator, John McCain? Really? He must have read Jack Cafferty’s blog and figured he’d better get out there and look like he’s working. He doesn’t want to be mistaken for a “lousy” candidate.
