CNN’s Candy Crowley interviews Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal on Sunday.

Gov. Bobby Jindal, R-Louisiana, told CNN's Candy Crowley on Sunday that he thinks John McCain has to be more proactive in his dialogue on domestic issues if he wants to win the White House.

While the Arizona senator scores well on issues related to foreign policy and national security, recent polls show that Barack Obama leads McCain on economic matters.

When asked how the presumptive Republican nominee can overcome this hurdle, Jindal suggested that McCain needs to overtly emphasize his policy differences with those of the presumptive Democratic nominee.

“Senator McCain has to talk more proactively about his views on domestic issues, how he contrasts with Senator Obama,” the governor said on Late Edition.

Highlighting McCain’s positions on health care, taxes, and a “robust national energy policy,” Jindal said: “I think the majority of the American people agree with Senator McCain’s positions, but he needs to draw that contrast so people can see the difference.”

The nation’s youngest governor, Jindal has often been mentioned as a possible vice presidential candidate. He is a staunch social conservative who could possibly offset any reservations Republicans have about McCain’s conservative credentials.

CNN is the most biased netwrok I have come across. When I send the comments they do not publish it. They say it is under moderation. However same time most liberal comments, they publish here because they want John McCain or Booby Jindal to read these stupid messages. I do not care what CNN does but I will stop reading your Ticker box and also I will not watch your channel. You are the most biased network and a pouthpiese of Barack Hussein obama. If CNN knows journalism, please tell me what are the achievements of Barack Hussein obama. VOTE JOHN MCCAIN. BARACK IS A HOAX.

McCain has strengths, however, crying and whining about Obama position shifts, make him look more and more like Hillary.....another loser. C'mon McCain you can win if ya refrain from your current mudslinging...if not buy a pantsuit and pretend to be another Clinton.

Clinton, no, wait, McCain Supporter   June 29th, 2008 6:08 pm ET

I like the "write in Hillary" idea. That can be for those who can't stand the Brat, but don't like McCain. I do like McCain, so I'll go ahead and vote for him. Also, I like Ralph Nader, who can always be counted on to tell it like it is. He says what I'm thinking. I wonder what American blacks will think when they're left out in the cold again. They'll think the Clintons were the best thing that ever happened to them, but it will be too late.

C'est la vie.

Oh yeah, Jindal, the guy who gave himself and friends a nice raise in salary for ????? nobody really knows!

Oh yeah, I'll hang on his every word. As I'm sure his priorities are all in the right places! (his pocket book and personal bank account)

I wouldn't give McCain a lollipop let alone a vote. But I'm sure McCain has already told Jindal he scratched him off his short list for VP after that report came out! Now Jindal has to even the score. Politics what great entertainment !

McCain needs to do more than just "talk about the economy proactively," he needs to be converted from left-leaning "Republican" to true conservative. It won't be enough for McCain to repeat how Obama will bankrupt the nation with socialist programs and job-destroying tax increases, or how the American economy will be crippled by ludicrous carbon dioxide taxes to keep solar activity from warming the earth. Unless McCain can get enough producers to the ballot box, the parasites will elect Obama.

By 2012, however, people may have figured out that killing the golden goose of the economic engine wasn't a good idea... and they may still have a chance to correct their mistake. By then the Republicans had better find a darn strong conservative candidate to face HRC, or we may as well get used to Karl Marx as required reading in our schools.

I think he is going to be a wonderful president. Obama can't be trusted, he has already lied to America more than once. We need a president we can trust to do the right thing. McCain is the man for the job!

Dayahka   June 29th, 2008 5:25 pm ET

Jindal is a lunatic. He would be a great VP for McCain, however, as that would guarantee a McCain loss.

Ula Nejad- Sacramento Ca   June 29th, 2008 4:48 pm ET

Talk economy and your persoanl success Bobby. You have to appeal to the younger generation as well. Success in the real sense and not about being the first dark skinned President of the United States. Mix it up. 97% are not fortunate to be in the smart and brightest bracket. Encourage them that it is alright and they can fiind many ways to feel successful. Hip Hop has worked for a certain group while some a destined to be governor.

Caycee, Pearl City Hawaii   June 29th, 2008 4:44 pm ET

Since McCain can't even use a computer, which is the most effective tool for communications about everything, including economics, why would anyone want to listen to him "proactively". Besides, if McCain is given the power to "push the button" and raise the rockets, I'd be even more determined not to give him the opportunity to press the wrong one or rely on his wife to do it for him.

Glad to be an Independent   June 29th, 2008 4:42 pm ET

The problem is that McCain opposed many of the policies he now endorses. He was against the Bush tax cuts. He supported comprehensive immigration. He was against offshore drilling. McCain is having a hard time being proactive on the economy because he really does not believe in the policy positions he now endorses. Often times, it seems like he is reading a script from somone else's speech. It does not seem authentic. That is a MAJOR PROBLEM. I do not see anything he can do to WIN! The Republicans should have chosen someone else. McCain 2008 is not the same McCain of 2000.

Mike   June 29th, 2008 4:34 pm ET

Jindal needs to do great things as a Governor then run for President in 2012. He is far and away a better candidate than McBush. Unfortunatly the GOP will not back Jindal because he is not an elite, white, multi millionaire in the pocket of the Big Corporations.

I have thought too that the Iraq war could escalate into Iran before the election. I wouldn't be surprised.

It would be too easy for Obama to win and the Iraq war wind down in 16 months. Something is going to come up before the election.

Jindal, 1st generation US born (parents from India), is a very wise man.

I think he should not hook his wagon to the McCain falling star.

He'll go far if he can distance himself from the current Republican Administration and the Republican's who so closely support Bush/Cheney/Rove/McCain tactics.

Think for yourself, Jindal, and for your constituents.

I have not seen one ticker in regards to the 2nd amendment and the Heller vs DC case.

I will say this, and I hope pro-Obama or anti-gun supporters read this and look up the information.

The state of Montana wrote a letter to the Supreme Court threatening to secede from our country back in March and revert back to a territory if the vote swung in favor of the gun ban. With a 5-4 vote, the Supreme Court has shown in the past week that 6th graders studying the Constitution know more about it than they do. Instead of interpreting the laws based on the Constitution, they are pushing their political agenda, and it makes this American sick.

Time and time again, you fail to understand the guns bought legally PROTECT people, and the illegal guns used to hurt people are not bought in stores.

It's just another way of reducing our liberties, much like the Patriot Act and Homeland Security has done....

Someone please explain to me how does a POW experience make you an authority on foreign policy? Their are thousands of POWs out there with the same military experience as McCain, you don't see them running for president based on that experience. Rather than looking at the experience part, you better look at whom these candidates will be getting foreing policy advice from. McCain will still be getting advice from those croonies that got us in this Iraq mess. Obama advicers will be men/women that have exceptional knowlege on foreign policy, that, combined with his brillant intellectual ability, how can he go wrong in leading this country forward. Voters pretend you are in Las Vagas. You put your bet on a hand that has the odds of winning (Obama), not on a hand that has proven that it is a losing hand (McCain's hand, the same hand bush holds). Vote Obama.

What a joke; Senator McCain is old, lost, out-of-touch and a blank elitist – he has no views of his own.

And Governot Jindal? Another joke; I would never trust a grown adult male named Bobby.

ron   June 29th, 2008 3:31 pm ET

what Mccain should be doing is asking obama why, what, where, why did he lie about how is father came to America, why did he lie about when and where his parents met. why does he make his wife plunge the - out of the toilet why does he make his wife take out the trash. what was wrong with the way she talked and dressed, where did the billions of dollars the oil companies invested to make their profits go ( i'm sure they wouldn't spend it on anything that helped the economy) just ask him questions on anything and question his answers like ABC did then the voting public can see for themselves how shallow and superficial he really his

Debbie   June 29th, 2008 3:22 pm ET

Bobby Jindah is a far right wing zealot. I hope McCain has more sense that to go there with a VP choice. Most Amercians, Democrats and Republicans alike, are sick of self-serving partisanship and do not align themselves with either the far left or the far right. Hopefully, McCain will not feel the need to pander to the ultra-conservative right wing represented by the likes of Jindah.

Obama doesn't know anything about the economy or foreign policy. He just reads prepared speeches and hides from debates and Town Hall meetings. Amazingly enough his followers believe everything he reads them. A 23 year old writes what Obama is supposed to say. By the way I wonder if anyone has took the time to see how Obama got elected in Chicago. It was a lot like the primary, voter suppression.

Jindal refuses to veto the largest raise ever given to state legislators. What type of vice president would he be.

Stephen Sabludowsky   June 29th, 2008 2:53 pm ET

As Publisher of Bayoubuzz.com, Mr. Jindal needs to know that he must be proactive here in Louisiana. There is a recall petition calling for his recall because he will not veto large pay raises voted against the will of the people for the benefit of the Louisiana legislators. As the founder of a rally scheduled for July 7 at 2 pm at the Louisiana State Capitol, and founder of Citizen Can who is hosting this rally, we are demanding a good man, Governor Jindal to stand up and be strong and veto legislation himself and not be scared of the legislature. It is ironic that he is saying McCain should be proactive, when the Louisiana voters are overwhelmingly demanding that he be proactive and a recall petition has been filed against him.

Earl   June 29th, 2008 2:46 pm ET

Same old words and same old voices. The Volunteer and paid Obama bashers are still at it and even though they have slightly diiferent names, their comments are about the same as they aimed at Hillary Clinton. I am not a McCain supporter and will either vote for Nader or stay home on election day. I will point out that McCain is a war hero and he spent five (5) years in a cage for us and he deserves our respect. You can disagree with him on the issues, but the name calling and the mean and nasty comments need to stop!

matt   June 29th, 2008 2:44 pm ET

McCain probably doesnt touch on these subjects yet because if he did then the media would twist it all around and im quite sure he knows this. The problem isnt McCains tactics to get into the white house it is the the idiot hate mongers that see a little poll and let the media make up their mind for them, rather than trying to listen to what McCain proposes. At best they just chat childish empty things like "Elect McCain and you'll feel pain". And i doubt they have enough of a mind to make it rhyme. Yet the democrats dont know what a true leader is, he isnt someone who begs to make everyone happy (you cant do that Obama its impossible). A Leader leads to the best of his ability and make to the minute decisions and he is simply letting americans know what he can do not what he's going to bend backward to fail at. Im sure we all wish that at a moments notice he wishes he could call every house in the US to see their hold on extremely hard to make decision.

I saw this broadcast this morning and Mr. Jindal did his fair share of dancing around specific topics he didn't want to discuss. There was a discussion about raises for state employees or something to that effect that he disagrees with terribly as he stated. Candy kept asking him why he just doesn't stop it as govenor if he disagrees with it so much. It was like watching dancing around the topic with the stars.

Sen McCain flip flopped on Bush's tax cuts for the wealthy. First he said tax cuts during a time of war was wrong, wrong when our Troops don't have the appropriate protection to stay alive. Now he says they should be made permanant so that our economy can continue to grow. HUH? This bounty paid on creating a new battery, where is the money going to come from? Cindy or us taxpayers? With all the wealth out there, taxpayers are going to again subsidize private industry? Wow, sounds like gov pork Sen McCain hates so much or more of that liberal socialism. And exactly who is the main stream media to judge anyone else on talking about the issues? Just look at the list of the political tickers as an example! If I'm generous I'd say maybe 10% of them say something about issues or the candidate's record on those issues.

I'd extend Jindal's criticism to the main stream media. Talk about the facts concerning the economy, Iraq, jobs, immigration, education, health care, etc. and give the facts about where we are, what the candidates have done, and what they currently say they will do. We don't need irrelevant stuff or speculation. Afraid people might start thinking and deciding for themselves instead of surrendering to media hype?

Texas for Obama   June 29th, 2008 12:43 pm ET

John McCain admitted he doesn't know anything about the economy. He can only talk about the military and the war. My brother in law is a veteran with 24yrs of military sevice, my dad with 21 yrs of military service, and they do not like or believe in John McCain's stand for the war in Iraq, and veteran policies. They both fought in former wars the 1st Iraq war and my dad in the Korean war.

War is ugly and many soldiers are killed, disabled and come back with mental problems. Also, it breaks up many families. When you fight for your country to protect others and cannot get decent veteran benefits or a 4 yr college education after 3 yrs of service, what person in their right mind would vote for John McCain? He's rich. What does he care about the average military veteran? This war is killing our economy. Look at the condition of America! No McCain!

We do not need the Clinton supporters. Most of them are in Racist [Red] states that Obama is not going to win anyway, and the rest are evenly spread around the nation. We will easily make it up in Record turnouts with Blacks, some Hispanics, First-timers, Independents, and some republicans.

remember there are 17 million more Democrats than Republicans, and this is the first election where almost all will vote. We will beat McCain just by our numbers.

McCain can't talk about something he doesn't know, can't remember or understand. It's ridiculous for people to expect any different when he can only talk about being a POW or war. McCain doesn't understand the U.S. doesn't have the economic bargaining power to continue off track. Vote Obama.

He just has to be more affable about it...

Cynthia   June 29th, 2008 12:36 pm ET

Senator McCain can't be proactive on too much other than trying to scare the American people about the possibility of another attack. The rest of it he has to stick to the script given to him because I'm not convinced he knows of nothing but war. He admitted he guess he needed to read Greenspan's book.

Barack Obama is a false prophet who is getting exposed. See how carefully he avoids discussions with McCain and even the press. You hear only his empty speeches. The citizens of this country are alert. By fall all those who have been researching his background will come out with more data that voters will evaluate and judge. Anyone familiar with history can tell that this guy is a populist and a demagogue. Despite the odds against McCain, he will win.

tigerakabj   June 29th, 2008 12:24 pm ET

To the poster Clinton, no, wait, McCain Supporter, your ignorance is astounding. He was for public financing only in agreement w/McCain about the cootrol of 527s. Since McCain can't control them, and he used YOUR's AND OURS public finance money as collateral for his loan during the primaries (ILLEGAL), Barack said he wouldn't do public financing.

Secondly, Barack's has from day one been saying "we should be as careful getting out as we were careless getting in."

And just like you, I'll take honor (Barack speaking out against the war in 2002, speaking up for his wife) and experience (Barack working with the poor on the south-side of chicago for three years, 8 years a state legislator, 2 years as a u.s. senator) over greed (McCain getting money for pacs and lobbyists who run his campaign. ie. charlie black) and prepared speeches (Bomb, bomb, Iran) any day of the week.

So watch Mr. Keating-5, wife-bad-mouthing, Bush-hugging, lobbyists-loving candidate and your party go down in flames come November and over the next four years (when Barack initiates the war crimes trials). Peace.

Rational1   June 29th, 2008 12:23 pm ET

Raymond Duke, if 18,000,000 people donated $1 to a presidential campaign, how much money would be donated? Most of Senator Obama's donors are regular people like me. He was smart enough to accept the lowest dollar amount, believing that it would encourage people who otherwise would be deterred from donating $100 – $2300 to a campaign. He took a chance and proved that it works. So, are you saying college kids, and others you mentioned can't afford $1-$5 dollars? Have you ever thought that maybe those who contributed for the first time in their adult lives are doing so as an investment for the future of our country? Also, since you beg to tie liberal to all Democrats, are all our soldiers conservatives? Probably not, but, what ratio of conservative soldiers are there to liberal ones? Given the categories of questionable campaign contributors, what percentage of Americans are the following: partially employed college kids, people who are losing their homes, non-employed, and people on welfare? Is it possible you left a ton of people out of your equation? What about the currently employed, already educated, non-welfare recipients, people not affected by the mortgage crisis? We exist you know. Trust that if Senator Obama was doing anything illegal, it would've already presented itself, given the scrutiny he and his wife are under. Wouldn't be jealous would you?

Clinton, no, wait, McCain Supporter   June 29th, 2008 12:22 pm ET

Hey, guys, we've only seen the beginning of the list of things on which Obama cannot be trusted. He, of course, is an expert in everything and cannot admit there is any area in which he might rely on others. Guess he won't be needing a Cabinet, unlike every other president.

Obama lies and he's the greediest man I've ever seen. Not satisfied with 1/4 billion dollars in campaign funds, he makes Hillary bring her own fund raisers to sweeten the pot.

If the US Presidency is for sale, Obama will win. If it isn't, we might get a hint of democracy in the next 4 years. Chicago politics are best viewed from the angle of a sewer rat, but they do carry so many unpleasant diseases. That would be Obama.

How much do you obama fans think HE knows about economics? One thing I love about McCain (and Cindy McCain, to) is that their egos are sufficiently intact that they don't feel the need to pretend they know everything about everything. Of course, in this jackal's den, you all, who all know less than ANY of the candidates, will seize on McCain's remarks. Check it out, kids. He ran the Commerce Committee in the US Senate. More bragging needed, I guess. It's what you respond to.

And Cindy McCain, who first refused, then decided to release her tax information because everyone was making such a big deal about it, said to a reporter

Will, NJ   June 29th, 2008 12:13 pm ET

McCain wants to solve our energy crisis by going ahead and giving away land to oil companies, tainting the last few pristine places on earth, while depleting what little we have left of an already scarcely growing fuel. I suppose it won't hurt much after all the nuclear waste we have built up. If you got a headache, pinch yourself and distract the pain.

Raymond Duke your are an idiot. These are politicians that we are talking about. Both of them have questionable stuff in their closets - McCain has much more because he has been in it for so long so you shouldn't even start that debate. Choose your candidate based on policies, debate on policies, your idiotic postings do nothing to sway anyone to your side. Go ahead and look at the donations - don't you know that the candidates have to report that every month? I am one of the small donors – I am employed, I work hard, I am not a democrat. My parents, in their 70s and republicans, are two of the small donors. And I have to guts to defend my country - against enemies, wisely, and not because George Bush had some agenda about Iraq or because McCain sees our leaving as some macho "losing". I look forward to the day when our country is again seen internationally as strong and moral. I am enjoying this campaign because it has energized so many people to look at the issues and discuss the issues and decide on the issues.

Jake   June 29th, 2008 11:49 am ET

McCain cannot be trusted either. He betrayed his country long time ago in Vietnam. He was a song bird. He revealed military secrets and surrendered long time ago and now this person wants to be the a president of the USA. Do you guys really think that while being POW McCain was held in prison for no reason just to see his nice face or there was a reason. Do you believe Vietnamese have asked him: "What can we do for you Mr McCain to make your prisoner life more enjoyable"??? Of course there is a reason. He was forced to reveal the secrets and he did. He should not be proud of being POW. He went to war knowing that if enemy get him somehow he will be forced to cooperate with the enemy and that's exactly what he did. He never thought that it would be in his country's best interest if he killed himself. Instead he agreed to cooperate with the enemy. And now he wants to be a president. That's not the kind of president we want Mr McBetrayer.

Clinton, no, wait, McCain Supporter   June 29th, 2008 11:44 am ET

As a McCain supporter, I agree that he must talk more about domestic issues and return to his original stand regarding taxes and immigration. I also think he would do well to back farther away from Bush. Gore backed all the way away from Clinton and was trounced as a result, so this can be risky business. It's one thing to back away from a loser, but Gore backed away from the most loved man in America. And if Gore hadn't lost so many votes by being holier than thou in other states, Florida wouldn't have mattered.

Obama has been lying from Day One. He is greedy beyond measure, not satisfied with the 1/4 billion he already raised among the Hitler Youth who follow him like a guru.

He lied when he promised to work with only federal campaign funds because of his personal greed that apparently knows no bounds.

He lied when he said he would immediately withdraw from Iraq. Now he says, "gradual withdrawal."

He makes Hillary Clinton look like a skin-flint. You can have him. I'll take honor and experience over greed and prepared speeches any day of the week.

Atleast McCain admits he knows little about the economy being a Retired Navy Pilot, but Obama who is a "Lawyer" is more dangerous as he will not admit he knows little about the economy. Both need advisors who are economist and business owners to suggest what to do to strengthen our economy. Just because Obama went to Harvard does not mean he knows everything. Rmember he went after the 60's Revolution so he has been brainwashed to the "LIBERAL AGENDA".

I will agree with the one about the Keating five. Maybe we ought to talk about Rezkto, Obama 's wife getting that big pay raise, maybe the Dailey machine out of chicago. Maybe we ought to look at all them donations and see where they come from. You can't be raising that much money fromnon- employed are partially employed college kids, you can't be rasing that much from all these people who are loosing their houses and if he is getting it from all these people maybe we should could them school grants and welfare checks . Apparently they don't need the handouts. Oh by the way . I think we should restart the draft with no exemptions (rich , poor, college, married , whatever). I love to hear all you liberals cry about the loss of lifes in Irag. The crying you are really doing is because you don't have the guts to defend your country.

MaryL- Ca   June 29th, 2008 11:26 am ET

I agree with Gov Jindal, that McCain should become more proactive with the energy crisis.
More strength is needed on McCain's direction on all issues and
more addressing to the American people on these issues is needed, before the general election.

The governor from lousianna is right. McCain needs to spend more tiime on this issue. It is very important. He needs to bring forth good ideas and solutions if he expects to win.All the working people are waiting for solutions and details on this matter. Change and hope work good for the Obama people who are mostly left wing liberals, college students who have never been in the workforce to really support themselves and welfare receipents who just want handouts anyway of off someone elses sweat.

jason   June 29th, 2008 11:20 am ET

no, McCain has to try to say very little about the economy. Republicans will always ruin the economy, as history shows. It's better for McCain if he tries to get people to forget about the economy by talking about "bitter" comments (even though he called people "angry" two days later), or "flip-flopping" (Because no one changes their mind. Ever – Oh wait! We do it all the time. We should be more concerned about what they change their mind to, instead of what they changed their mind about.).

PCS / North Carolina   June 29th, 2008 11:20 am ET

Some minorities (Indians) wants to act like majority, so that there would be no place for another minority in politics. Jindal fogot his roots. His father is a veted Democrat.

Corby   June 29th, 2008 11:19 am ET

A note for Flip Flop McCain: Just so you know, Bobby Jindal is not hispanic. He was born in Baton Rouge, La to parents who came to the US from India. I believe it is impossible for a presidential candidate to be vastly experienced in all aspects of American politics. This is quite an unreasonable request. The key to correct our economy is not through the politicians, it is through the America people making better choices with their income! I sincerely wonder what our economic situation may look like if America had avoided credit cards and NOT gone after things they cannot afford through the variety of mortgage options out there. Ultimately, these are more contributing factors to the failing economy in American; more so than political rhetoric or even the price of oil.

Come on America, let's look at ourselves in a very critical sense and start living more like our parents and grandparents did with their incomes. The reality of our taxation system is that it no longer makes sense. If anyone out there knows what they are doing when they file their taxes, please let me know! I do what I know is required, taking only lawful deductions and paying my allotted taxes. But realistically speaking, what we go through each year makes absolutely no sense. Simple steps must be taken to turn our economy around and most of them start with us, the American public and how we spend our money. So, come on America, get smart with your valued income!

Amit NYC   June 29th, 2008 11:19 am ET

Do You all want to give GOP another chance to destroy our country ?

GOP = The party of shame = party of filthy rich
A vote for GOP is a Vote for:
1) The draft
2) Tax cuts to the wealthiest 1%
3) War in Iraq for 100yrs
4) Bomb Iran and North Korea
5) Health Care only to the wealthiest = Market driven Health Care !! While 49 million American's do not have Health Insurance
6) Overturn Rove vs Wade
7) Job losses due to Job outsourcing while the GOP CEO's make multimillion dollar bonuses

Yeah, vote GOP = Sell our country to China, India and the middle east.

It's not about being proactive. We know McCain knows NOTHING about the economy. What I like about Obama is, even if he doesn't seem to know, he's intelligent and you can trust him to learn as much as he can. I would much rather have a learning President than one who claims to have the experience and refuses to get educated because he would look just as "naive" and "unexperienced" as Obama.

V. from Virginia   June 29th, 2008 10:46 am ET

Too bad McCain has no idea how to do that. THat's probably why McCain will pick Romney, someone who knows at least SOMETHING about the economy. McCain said that he was not good on economic matters, so to think that he's been hitting the books for months reading up on the economy is unlikely.

Greg FL.   June 29th, 2008 10:45 am ET

How can he be more proactive on the economy? He himself admits. He knows nothing about the economy. And to make it worse his chief economic advisor is in the bag for a Swiss bank.

I agree. Senator McCain has the most disorganized mind when it comes to solving any major domestic issues we are faced with. He does not hesitate to spend billions rebuilding Iraq, making sure French gain thousands of jobs building our defense tankers, promotes NAFTA agreement with Columbia but is very much against improving OUR economy, our quality of life, and our border safety. I simply do not get it.
