McAuliffe: Bill Clinton and Obama to talk within 48 hours

Bill Clinton and Barack Obama will talk soon, according to Terry McAuliffe.
Bill Clinton and Barack Obama will talk soon, according to Terry McAuliffe.

(CNN) - Clinton campaign chairman Terry McAuliffe assured CNN’s Candy Crowley that former President Bill Clinton and presumptive Democratic nominee Barack Obama will be discussing Clinton’s role in the campaign within the next two days.

“I believe that in the next 24 to 48 hours they will talk and off we will go,” McAuliffe stated on Sunday’s Late Edition.

Clinton has remained behind the scenes so far during the general election. He was not present at the Democratic event in Unity, New Hampshire on Friday and has only released a one-sentence statement saying that he will do whatever he can to help the Illinois senator win the election.

Many analysts have said that Clinton’s not-so-subtle absence from the campaign is because he is angry and bitter about his wife losing the nomination.

McAuliffe defended the former president, saying that he has been taking time to let his wife finish up her campaign and secure her relationship with Obama.

“She was the candidate, she got 18 million votes, she’s the political leader of the Clinton family now,” McAuliffe said.

Obama asked to talk to President Clinton on Friday and Hillary Clinton told him, “Absolutely,” according to McAuliffe.

Now that President Clinton is back from a five-nation tour during which he attended Nelson Mandela’s 90th birthday party, McAuliffe predicts that they will be speaking shortly—but stressed that the attention should be on Hillary Clinton and Obama coming together.

Looks like he will pressure Obama to put Hill on the Ticket. I hope he does not do that. Let OBAMA choose his running mate.

Bill needs to get a life and give someone else a chance. Obama needs his supporters at this point. It is unfair for Bill and his followers to demand Obama to pay for Hillary's debt.

All Hill had to do was suspend her campaign back in March. Everyone knew she wouldnt win but she continued to rack up the debt and now she is blackmailing Barrack to pay for it.

The Clintons have done enough damage to the Democratic party already.

Well I'm glad that my favorite president will be talking with Obama! No one can deny that while he was president, this country was doing great! I feel that preseident Clinton did the right thing by laying low and letting Hillary and Obama get things organized first. I would love to see a joint ticket. Obama/Clinton 08

I'll be glad when the Clintons ride off into the sunset. Obama is trying to be graciuos. But this graciousness will cause him problems. The sooner the Clintons get off stage, the better it will be for Obama. They should take a long vacation until Jan 31, 2009, when everything is all over. Obama doesn't owe the Clintons anything. When Obama wins, and he will, let it not be like he needed the Clintons to get that victory.
Obama's greatest strength would be to campaign Clintonless. Then, he'll go down as "Da Man", not someone tied to Hillary's apron string.
    Obama all the way

I think Bill along with Hilary and Barack will once again show the world how powerful the Democratic party "CAN" be once they unite for the larger purpose.I also think that Barack will do whatever he can to make sure Hilary's women and men supporters ARE supported in November.

I hope President Clinton tells the presumptous presidential nominee to "take a flying leap." Having one Clinton "making nice" to Obama is MORE than enough. If it weren't for President Clinton, Barack Obama wouldn't be where he is today. The Clintons have done more for the AA community than any president since Abraham Lincoln. So I think BHO and MO are the once who should be making nice not WJC and HRC.
