McCain: Obama's word cannot be trusted

Sen. John McCain had harsh words for Sen. Barack Obama on Saturday.
Sen. John McCain had harsh words for Sen. Barack Obama on Saturday.

(CNN) - Hours after sparring with Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama over immigration, Sen. John McCain told a fundraiser in Kentucky Saturday night, “Senator Obama’s word cannot be trusted”.

The comment came at a private event in Louisville, as McCain criticized Obama for reversing positions on public financing and other issues.

The Republican candidate told the crowd, McCain said, “You know, this election is about trust, and trusting people’s word, and unfortunately apparently on several items, Senator Obama’s word cannot be trusted.”

He was introduced by Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, who joked the two don’t always see eye to eye. In his comments, McCain said, “I take difficult positions sometimes. Mitch will tell you, I’m not elected Ms. Congeniality every year in the United States senate. But the fact is that I’ll keep my word to the American people and you can trust me.”

The charge came after Obama at the National Association of Latino Elected Officials accused McCain of backing down on immigration reform for political reasons.

He said, “One place where Senator McCain used to offer change was on immigration. He was a champion of comprehensive reform, and I admired him for it. But when he was running for his party's nomination, he walked away from that commitment and he's said he wouldn't even support his own legislation if it came up for a vote. We can't vacillate. We can't shift.”

    John McCain is a FRAUD.

He has to say these things for ANYBODY to pay attention to him.

The Republican party is going down in flames in another Nixonesque or Hooveresque (pick your historical example) debacle.

    Good riddance.

McCain is a flip-flopper of some note; his stance on immigration, offshore drilling, torture, Bush's tax cuts, and his own campaign financing during the primary. In light of the troubles our country is in, it would seem the crux of McCain's campaign should be more than namecalling– he is so behind the curve of what average Americans want, the last thing he wants to do is discuss issues.

If you want some real news, try the BBC web. They have real journalists there I hear.

Here you get balanced news. Even if McCain says something stupid, they pretend like it is reasonable so no one thinks they are being biased.

I also noticed that virtually all comments to posts are idiotic and do not reflect the views of reasonable people. Anyone else notice that?

McCain is correct. Obama has flip-flopped so many times now and has gotten away with it every time. What will it take for the media to be critical of Obama!!!!

McCain now sings different tunes to get elected. Not a chance.

While we won't all agree with everything Obama says or does, he's ar more believable and the best choice to get this country back on track. the Bush-McCain team keeps us bogged down forever in this religious civil war in Iraq, between the Sunnis, Shiites and Kurds who want to kill each other for control of the Iraq, then to kill us Infidels. All to keep big business and big oil making big money. it's time for Iraq to take control of their own country and fund their rebuilding with their own oil money.

Well his word might be trusted, if you knew which word he was talking about. It seems that he says one thing to one group of people in the morning and then another thing to another group of people in the afternoon.

I have to laugh when I think of all the times they called Kerry a flip flopper over nothing. And obama's the biggest one we have...OH BUT I suppose he calls it "change"....guess that's the kind of change he is referring to, changing his mind every four hours. Wonder he isn't in a constant state of dizziness.

McCain why did you not pay your property taxes for 4 years? A man who doesn't honors his contracts isn't worth his words.

Obama is a snake who will do anything and say anything that will help stoke his overwhelming ambition and avarice. I have been a democrat all my life and have never been ashamed of it until now. The only good thing that could come of an Obama presidency would be that all of the disgusting members of the democratic leadership that threw Senator Clinton under the bus and endorsed Obama will be made to pay for that endorsement when he shows himself to be even worse than G.W. Bush.

People should just look at the evidents of what Obama has said and done, then it should be pretty clear that he is a typical Chicago politician.

Obama has several gaffes and has been caught in several lies. McCain has been caught in dozens of completely contradictory policy positions - lies - time and time again. I was hoping the GOP I grew up with would come back, not more of this neo-con b.s. Go back to your prison camp, McCain, we don't want you (even your own party!).

Talk about who is calling the kettle black – Mr McCain you need to listen to yourself when you speak of who can be trusted. It has become clear to me that you will say anything and do anything to get what you want – In 2000 I was almost sure that you were the man for us – you seemed like a man who would not listen to the old lines and ways and would do things that the people needed – now you would have us say in Irag for years to come – extend tax cuts for the richest among and leave the burden on those who can least afford it – you have suggested pandering by stopping gas taxes for 3 months – all you will be is an extension of what is already in place – this just cannot be we must not let the BUSH/CHENEY ideas continue. There must be a new way and that way is OBAMA 08.

  20. THE TRUTH shalt set YOU Free!!!!!

CNN...........Sen. John McCain told a fundraiser in Kentucky Saturday night, “Senator Obama’s word cannot be trusted”............AND according to you McSame............PRESIDENT CARTER (A LOUSY PRESIDENT)....TAKE A LOOK IN THE MIRROR SIR!!..............Stop pointing YOUR FiNGER......And FACE UP TO what you STAND FOR.....
That, my friends, is an elitist attitude that McCain shares. We need a president who is willing to at least make an effort to understand the lives of the people whom he vow to represent on the world map.

Ahh the "double talk express”. This from the politician who reneged on off-shore drilling. The same guy who reversed course on immigration-reform. This from the same guy who has just been cited by Newsweek as not having paid taxes (FOR 4 YEARS, NO LESS) on seven properties that he and Cindy-Lou own. They only paid them on Friday after being caught and still owe some $1700.

The Republicans know that they can't win this election on the issues. Instead they use fear issues and emotional appeals to cast doubt in the minds of those who can't or won't decide for themselves based on facts.
