WASHINGTON (CNN) — The Straight Talk Express — perhaps the most visible symbol of Arizona Sen. John McCain's presidential campaign — is taking to the skies.

The Republican Party's presumptive nominee will unveil his new campaign airplane on Monday: a Boeing 737-400.

The aircraft shares its name with McCain's ever-present campaign bus, which has been a staple of the candidate's 2000 and 2008 campaigns.

The 95-seat plane — with seats for the candidate, his staffers and the press — has the "Straight Talk Express" logo emblazoned on its fuselage.

Straight talk??? Is he kidding? He changes his mind like the wind, does anyone including himself know what he stands for? BTW where does he plan to store the waste from those 45 nuclear plants he wants to build? I'll take Obama's sound judgement over mccain's so called 'experience' anyday.

Straight Talk. Right and as soon as I believe that one, I'll believe a politician actually cares and is going to do something positive for the country.

Mike   June 29th, 2008 9:44 am ET

Very nice. The luxury jet will make a sumptuous back ground for the multi millionaire corporate heiress Cindy. To say condesending little comments to the common folk like." I am proud of my country, arn't you" Maybe Cindy is the reincarnation of Marie Antoinette. The economy is really bad? Giggle, then let them eat cake.

Beware Clintonites: McCain will promise you the world and it will vanish before your eyes if he is elected. Don't be fooled.

saga for Obama   June 29th, 2008 9:55 am ET

When American Continental Corporation, the parent of Lincoln Savings, went bankrupt in 1989, more than 21,000 mostly elderly investors lost their life savings.
In early 1987, at the beginning of his first Senate term, McCain attended two meetings with federal banking regulators to discuss an investigation into Lincoln Savings and Loan, an Irvine, Calif., thrift owned by Arizona developer Charles Keating. Federal auditors were investigating Keating's banking practices, and Keating, fearful that the government would seize his S&L, sought intervention from a number of U.S. senators.
After McCain's election to the House in 1982, he and his family made at least nine trips at Keating's expense, three of which were to Keating's Bahamas retreat. McCain did not disclose the trips (as he was required to under House rules) until the scandal broke in 1989. At that point, he paid Keating $13,433 for the flights
And in April 1986, one year before the meeting with the regulators, McCain's wife, Cindy, and her father invested $359,100 in a Keating strip mall.
McCain was guilty of nothing more than "poor judgment," the committee said
"poor judgment" indeed. thats just what you have if you are contempling a vote for McCain….

If the 737 follows anything like McFlipFlop's political views, it will be doing complex aerobatics whereever it goes, i.e., radical changes of directions, barrell rolls, spins and inverted spins, and so much more.

I liked McFlipFlop in 2000 and would have voted for him over the chimp in an instant, but I don't like the McFlipFlop of 2008 not at all.

Let the PUMAs vote for McFlipFlop — they are only a few hundred brain- dead PWT old ninnies anyhow.

I'll plant this little bomb for you Obamites who will soon fill this forum with your little tirades. I can't do this during the week because I worK:

Audacity of Hope = Mein Kampfh

Charasmatic leader in his 40's who could captivate a crowd and promised his people vague promises of "change". They chanted empty slogans not knowing what what their slogans really meant. The leader would target his enemies with code words meant to demean, but never directly insult. He left that to his henchmen. They would march in the streets and torment his political enemies. They would interrupt his opposition and would not let them speak. The media of the time loved this charismatic leader and dared not to give him any bad press.

Sound familiar, Obamites? Read your history books about what blind, adoring, servitude by the people got the Germans. Your dirty Chicago politician is playing you like a drum. Your idea of diversity is sick. Yeah, the Democratic party is truely diverse: You can be both a fascist and a socialist.

This battle has nothing to do with race - at least not from this opposition's perspective. Its about ideas. And Obama's ideas are simply about power. Where are his plans for energy, the war on terror, the economy? He only denounces McCain's ideas and spouts generalities for solutions. Wake up before its to late!!!!

After hearing that, I could not vote for McCain ever and believe that anyone that was also in the Vietnam Conflict or ever in the military could vote for him. This is just one of many reasons why I will give up my tax break to keep McBush out of the White House.

Does that mean the "Straight Talk Express" has derailed? lol

Many Americans already felt that way unfortunately, as McCain adopted more Bush policies he was originally against.

there is a lot at stake people…
if you could go back in time to 2000, knowing what you you know now would you still vote for Bush? well if you are in worse shape now then in 1999, if you are tired of the politicians who have the special interest groups in mind, if you are tired of this OIL WAR killing over 4000 US soldiers so Exxon could get thier no bid contracts, if you AMERICANS are tired of the weak dollar ( the worth of our dollar is less than some countries we consider third world), our country is in the WORSE shape it has ever been in due to the GOP. but those big corporations backed by the GOP are making TRILLIONS of dollars…Chaney/ Bush all of the Halliburton stuff will come to light. Americans are loosing their homes, jobs, we people who have to choose between food or medicine, food prices are critical and we all know how badly the pump has hit us.
ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country…well here's an idea. DO NOT VOTE FOR MCCAIN. for if you do…GOD help America cause she is desperately going to need it.

Now he can jet around as fast as Mr. Obama and Hillary feigning a political marriage of ideas–as their "shadow figures attempt to hatchet each other in the head".

Do the jets these candidates travel around on come from their personal finances, their party, or their raised donations?

It's said that his campaign paid for the plane. I'm a little curious about that. Don't those planes cost about 25% of his total $85 million? How can he afford it?

Doug   June 29th, 2008 10:21 am ET

McCain cares so much about the environment and energy costs that he's willing to add more smog and pollution to the skies with his airplane that his big oil donors and other lobbyists paid for. Sounds like big change to me! When will Grandpa John Needs-a-cane just give it up?

Robert   June 29th, 2008 10:24 am ET

Since the gas prices are high and McCain's holiday tax-free gas will not do any good after all, he resorted to an airplane with the hope that the campaign will be able to at least pay for the fuel since the plane is the bribe from Boeing.

What a lousy way to spend money on stupid and non-sense items.
Why not spend that money to buy food and medicine and take it yourself to a homeless shelter or to a poor country and distribute it among the needy.

I used to supprt Obama, but with him slowly flip-flopping all the issues that made me like him (such as NAFTA) now I'm not so sure.
He's now that media darling (him having 1853 stories about him on cnn, McCain with 996) so surely this comment will be edited out. I'm not for McCain though, just speculating about him. I do like McCain's idea about townhall debates this summer, and I feel a strong leader would agree to this. It seems to me most the people I know personally want Obama mostly based on the fact that he's half black (a sorry fact indeed, color should not determine a president be he black, white, or another color) or because they are enchanted by the media, few can actually defend their support of him. It seems to me most people like or hate McCain because he wants to stay in Iraq (which to me seems a sensible idea as Iraq is to be the last nation to peak in oil in the world.)

I'm still on the fence between the two. What will drive me away from the candidates is their VP picks. If Obama picks Clinton he loses my vote. If McCain picks Mitt Romney he's lost my vote. If both pick sensible VPs I'll stay on the fence. If both screw-up, which is most likely to happen, I'm writing in the only person with any common sense, the ever over-looked Ron Paul.

Let's stop this popularity contest and make it into an election CNN, show us some more John McCain so that we might better decide the lesser of these two evils. If you read this at all Sen. Obama, show your strength and accept these townhall debates. If you read this Sen. McCain, stick to your guns and don't go flip-flopping for Hillary's votes, it'll pay off.

JD Not   June 29th, 2008 10:34 am ET

Nothing straight about McCain and his talks. How do you know you're talking straight when you can't remember what you said a minute ago? You have to know-if know, remember- the coordidate values of the preceeding point to reasonably connect the next point to declare your line or talk straight.

Dem in PA   June 29th, 2008 10:35 am ET

It's amazing to see how much venom some people have towards a guy who served our country in the military and in public service. He has been bucking his party and the president for years, and he actually has a record of bipartisanship (Obama has none). Now suddenly he's this horrible person just because he's running against the Obamessiah. You people really need to stop worshiping him. You're acting like a bunch of lemmings. You'd walk off a cliff if he asked you to.

Coloradoan   June 29th, 2008 10:35 am ET

McCain and his Republican handlers will just keep on trying to get media attention, and here is another example of a "So What??"

Who CARES if you have a jet airplane at your disposal, I am sure that now you can barely afford it so it's paid for by somebody else, Cindy Loo-Hoo maybe??

One thing at least he's stopped using taxpayers' money… or is he?

DON'T BE FOOLED, JOHN MCCAIN IS THE WRONG CHOICE.

President Barack Obama. It feels good to read that!!

I can't believe the above comments. How ignorant. After years of Dems complaining about the Repubs, now that the Dems are controlling Congress I see "nothing' getting done-still. And, all the Dems are offering us is a Jr senator with no experience??? "Scrapping" Hillary altogether? Obama will "change" things alright. He'll "negotiate" us right back into a hostage crisis-OR WORSE. The terrorist organizations will walk all over him-period. And has everyone forgotten who got us into Afganistan in the first place? Tricky Bill-A DEMOCRAT. long before Bush Jr. Oh-and for those that want to blame the Repubs about the 4000+ soldier losses so far (which includes "Bill's" Afganistan)-remember the tens of thousands lost in Vietnam? Under LBJ? A DEMOCRAT….

Ron posted:

"when will the obama supporters understand that the terrorist of this world are not influenced by words. the reason you can walk freely in this country is because you have the protection of the law enforcement. there are many area's in this country where street gangs rule, killing and terrorizing their neighbourhoods protected by bleeding heart laws that tie the laws hands and discourage people from coming forward to testify.it's easy to shoot your mouth off when your living in a upscale neighbourhood protected by the police try that in a slum area.how many terrorist attacks have there been since bush went after them.vote for who you want but don't ever think that diplomacy will prevent people that are willing to kill their own women and children as well as themselves will respond to anything but force. once they know the consequences then they'll want to negotiate. obama did not invent negotiations it's been around since the beginning of time. remember JF kennedy negotiated with kruschev but it was the threath of force that made him leave Cuba"

Ron you are using the Nazi talking points from the 30's and 40's. "We need to keep attacking and killing everyone who do not agree with us."

You need help, if you think you can make everyone in the world love America by pointing a gun at them. Your common sense is warped.

For all those idiots who are spreading rumors: He is renting the plane. People should give McCain credit for fighting aginst Obama with little resources.

Which candidate do think of when you hear the word "survivor", "hero", "problem.- solver","bi-partisan","maverick"?

And which candidate comes to mind when you hear the words: "naive", "elitists","arrogant" ?

Raymond Duke   June 29th, 2008 11:02 am ET

I think it is time for him to get a plane and that way he will be able to make all them town hall meetings that Obama refuses to do. Hmmmm, I wonder why the great orator ( the myth the press created) want debate in front of ordinary people. Reckon he might have to answer real questions and might not look as sharp as that old man without someone telling him what to say.

Why do Obama supporters so closely resemble a pack of rabid dogs, frothing at the mouth, with no apparent control over their senses? Why do they continually resort to name calling and making idiotic puns of the opponent's name? This torrent of obnoxiousness will not elect your pathetic candidate. It did not elect Obama in the primaries and, since there are no superdelegates to hand the Novemeber election over, it will not work in the months to come. The collective arrogance of Barack Obama and his minions should condemn the entire group of blithering idiots to failure.

JohnInOhio   June 29th, 2008 11:04 am ET

I would suggest the "Straight talk buggy-whip". It'd be more appropriate.

It must be nice to have a wife that can purchase you a plane…I really want to know who paid for it!!! PLEASE DIG INTO THE ORIGINS OF THIS PLANE…I hope the taxpayers aren't footing his bill…

But did he use his AARP discount to purchase it?

Raymond Duke   June 29th, 2008 11:09 am ET

If I was all you liberals I wouldn't cry about McCain breaking out a new Plane. According to all you Obama people (the messiah) Obama is going to win and be the second coming of christ to save us from the muslims and make sure everybody gets their welfare check on time.I only have one question. When he starts taxing all the working people to much and they decide to get in line to get them free handouts, who is going to be working to support these handouts.

Mac/San Diego   June 29th, 2008 11:09 am ET

What is abundantly clear to me is that no one is interested in a real discussion about the problems facing the United States. Obama supporters believe magically that their eloquent leader will be a savior of sorts. McCain supporters are split between neo-conservatives and traditional republican ideologues and care more about securing another election than the direction of the country. How is it that the greatest we have to offer is Obama or McCain as choices? What is wrong with the country is that we have languished behind the weak and self-serving leadership of Democrats and Republicans. Thanks CNN for promoting a dialogue about McCain's plane and yesterday Obama's gym problems.

McCain is so arrogant. He is the epitome of an elitist, flying around in his fancy jet while people stave in this country and struggle to pay their meager mortgages.
He is so arrogant he believes his opinion should be the final word on everything. He claims to know what the people want but he is completely out of touch with reality. His wife is a horrible mess of plastic surgery and a spoiled rich brat that thinks her money can buy her whatever she wants.
If McCain steals the election I am moving to Canada.

Nothing straight about McCain and all his back and forth talks. How do you know you're talking straight when you can't remember what you said a minute ago? You have to know-if not, at least, remember -what your coordinate values are of your precceding point in order to create the next point of connections for a straight line; in this case, talk straight.

Gee I wonder if McCain's jet is as big and cumbersome and gas-guzzling as the one Al Gore flies around in to preach to the sheep about global warming? Or if McCain's house is as energy-sapping as Al Gore's big ol' house?

And as for Bam-Bam - he goes to a church for 20 years that calls America the "U.S.KKK.of A" and then tells us he loves his country. He takes his kids to listen to a race-baiting foam-at-the-mouth preacher screech that the U.S. Gov't invented HIV to kill off black people, and then says he wants to bring people of all races together. It was so amusing to me when his wife tried to back off her statement that when her husband got nominated, it was the first time she felt proud of her country. After listening to such racist bile for so long, how could she say anything else? How could anyone expect any better of her?

Obama is a liar, a poser and a shallow pretty boy. I'm voting for a MAN for President, a man who has truly served his country in every capacity, a man brave enough to risk his political career to take a stand, as he did when he supported the surge that is winning the war in Iraq. That MAN is John McCain. Now all you Obama fan girls go drool over his picture and screech "He's so pretty!" at each other LOLOLOL

Ridgeway   June 29th, 2008 11:31 am ET

It amazes me to see how all you Obama supporters can take a simple news clip and use it to continuously bash Senator McCain. I believe that it's because there is nothing good to be said of Obama. He is the real gimick in this election. He has no qualifications to be a presidential candidate, and if he were white, would not even have been considered as a potential candidate. He has done nothing in the state legislature, and absolutely nothing in the US senate except run for president. He spouts these empty promises about change (read from a teleprompter) without any clear idea about how to actually make them happen. All I've seen so far is a socialist candidate that thinks that wealth redistribution is the answer to fixing the problems in the black neighborhoods of this country. (it won't).
Obama is just another crooked Chicago politician who will do anything to get into office at any cost, and then use the position to better his own financial standing at the cost of the US taxpayer. He stands for NOTHING.

See the difference here??????

That name was appropriate in his 2000 election bid, but not this year. John McCain's campaign has had little to do with straight talk. Unlike 2000, he changed positions to win the support of the conservative wing of the GOP just to get the nomination. He continues to repeat the Bush Administration's party line on taxes, the economy, and Iraq. Given that, the plane and bus should be called the "Bush III Express".

Senator McCain, I lost more than 7,000 dollars of my 401K this past week. This is not a flip flop but it is real.
My net worth has declined so much that I am afraid my daughter may not be able to go to college this year.

Instead of buying a plane, can you tell me EXACTLY what you will do for young people who worked hard in High School and hell bent in going to college?

I have not heard one peep from you on that subject and I not asking for anything for myself but for the next generation.

How can my daughter afford 100,000 college loan at 7% or more and if I may say so; loans from evil corporations who care less if a child succeed?

I like your straight talk express but it lost it's wheels and now you new plane will loose it's wings too. Until your positions are a complete reverse from those of the Chimp, you are just like him.

All you hear is "Obama is inexperienced". "Obama is a Muslim". "Obama is a Black Racist". "Obama is a Rock Star".

Never do they talk about the ISSUES. Why? Because all those things happened under their policies. Gas Prices are nearing $5 a gallon and John McCain wants to talk about Jimmy Carter, a man who has been out of office for 3 decades…..

The GOP has nothing. The haev become a parody of themselves.

WoW   June 29th, 2008 12:34 pm ET

Everyone talks as if our country is third world. I have been around the world many times and thank god every time I return. I have seen countries were the can barley feed their citizens. Or were in Germany you pay a 40% TAX. How about Universal Health Care sounds great but I have to wait 6-12 month to receive a hearing aid. Ummmm. The reason the world dislikes us is not because we’re are an awful place to live but we tend to sound like whinny brats. What is so wrong with our country? If you try to succeed in it you will.

lilian, nigeria   June 29th, 2008 12:35 pm ET

i am not an american, but i believe you should have respect for someone who went to war for your country, if not, you ll be seen as not appreciating the troops in iraq. also high oil price is global and not the making of your president.

"The Republican Party's presumptive nominee will unveil his new campaign airplane on Monday: a Boeing 737-400."

Whats wrong REPs???? Your candidate can't unveil an actual energy policy without polluting the ozone???? SUCKERS!!!!

seanm   June 29th, 2008 12:38 pm ET

I wonder if his rich wife bought this for him…

Farrell, Houston, Tx   June 29th, 2008 12:42 pm ET

Plane, bus, train or whatever the straight talk express ain't talking about nothing. What a waste of money.

mitchell hussein martin   June 29th, 2008 12:42 pm ET

INDEPENDENT 4 Obama   June 29th, 2008 12:43 pm ET

E. C., Houston, Texas ………… WAY TO GO, MCCAIN! TIME TO ENERGIZE YOUR CAMPAIGN FOR A BIG WIN, WIN, WIN……….IN NOVEMBER! YOU ARE THE ONLY CANDIDATE QUALIFIED AND EXPERIENCED TO BE THE PRESIDENT OF THIS GREAT NATION! GO….MCCAIN, 08………..McSAME ……………..I lost MY ENERGY TO THE
BUNNY……wait a moment ……..COME BACK here OBAMA!!!

Jon- Vanderbilt University   June 29th, 2008 12:45 pm ET

Are Obama supporters kidding right now? He's had a plane the entire campaign, he probably RENTED the plane, i mean after the campaign, if he wins, he has air force one, if he loses, then he'll go back and forth to AZ only. It's ridiculous that people are concerned about this. Take your eyes off of the swirling wheel Obama supporters, stop letting yourselves be hypnontized. and again OBAMA HAS A PLANE TOO

Jason, Texas   June 29th, 2008 12:46 pm ET

Dave: Obama supporters are have a right to post as well as you. So, don't give us the "blame them" comments like most Republicans do.

Why such a huge plane? Talk about gas guzzler…..

Oh, and Obama has changed his mind for the better on some issues. People make blanket statements about flip flopping, but changing one's mind for the better is not flip-flopping. Now, McBush is a flip-flopper extraordinare while Obama has made good, informed decisions on his change. I mean, what is wrong with paying for one's campaign with donor money rather than tax payer money. I mean, great idea to me. Keeps the lobbyists even farther away from Obama. McCain, on the other hand, can't see a good idea if it hit him in the eyeball. His energy issues, etc are so all over the place and gimmicky that it's ridiculous.

So, OBAMA 08. Let's elect a president with integrity.

Keith   June 29th, 2008 12:47 pm ET

Let's not worry about the rising gas prices, staggering economy and growing number of casualities in Iraq. We have McCain's "Straight Talk Express" to look forward to now!

Vig   June 29th, 2008 12:49 pm ET

NOBAMA - No McCain - Just say no to the status quo - put Hillary in the White House - join write-in's for Hillary - there is a 3rd choice.

Tom PA   June 29th, 2008 12:49 pm ET

I suppose it will be less of a problem to carry your straight talk waste product off the bus in a sewage bag. You can now flush it from 30,000 feet hoping it will dissipate before the oder becomes obvious.

Michelle   June 29th, 2008 12:49 pm ET

My goodness the level of bias on this post is astounding. Seems like the Move-On.org crown are in full effect spouting the DNCs talking pts.

Calling McCain the flip-flopper when Obama has changed his positions of everything since the Primary is just proof that these Obama kool-aid drinkers are very narrow-minded, ignorant people.

Google "Obama flip-flopped". Nafta, Unions, Cuban embargo, immigration, taxes, terrorism, etc., Obama has "flipped" and "floppped" depending on the crowd. The list is growing too. With the recent ruling on 2nd Amend. this week, Obama once again changed his views on gun ownership and sided with the Supreme Ct. in a effort to pander to the supporters of the 2nd Amend.

John McCain has at least two sons in the military. One is on his third tour. Keep up the ignorance Obamabots! Sheeps for the Messiah - Obama!

Karen, MIssouri   June 29th, 2008 12:49 pm ET

Unfortunately, there's nothing "straight talk" about McCain. He can use all the slogans he wants to but "straight talk" is NOT one that reflects McCain at all.

As for the plane…I guess the money was burning a hole in his pocket so he had to buy something.

Alec   June 29th, 2008 12:50 pm ET

I'm tired of all these comments bashing CNN for its "non-stories." Sure, it's not life-changing for Americans to learn about McCain's latest Straight-Talk toy, but active and interested voters want to know EVERYTHING about their candidates these days. If you're fed up with CNN, stop posting comments and go read something else.

Straight Talk Express with Forked Tongue

tom, boston   June 29th, 2008 12:54 pm ET

the corporate media in the corpocon's pocket,

the neo-cons, and

the financial speculators are all rooting for Mccain, for sure,

pouring their ill-gotten money into his campaign,

all the while hedging their bets on obama

so that they could claim later that they have been rooting for change and obama all along.

DITCH CORPORATE MEDIA and

check out DEMOCRACY NOW for real stories.

K. Williams   June 29th, 2008 12:56 pm ET

How obnoxious, esp in these times.
Glad to see he's so environmentally conscious and contributing to fuel conservation. Guess that only applies to "us" people. He couldn't use a small plane?

Justin B   June 29th, 2008 12:56 pm ET

What the???? Didn't he just come out with some gimmick to promote electric cars trying to champion the gas issue?? Then turns around and buys a freakin' 737???????? I'm confused.

If that's not straight talk, I don't know what is.

McBush "Change(ing his mind) you can count on"

Jules   June 29th, 2008 12:58 pm ET

You people disgust me. I can't believe how incredibly partisan everyone has gotten, you'd think we were talking about the Shias fighting the Sunnis in Iraq, not petty squabbles between American political parties and their over zealous supporters. It seems as if every time McCain or Obama do anything (though particularly McCain it seems), everyone and their mother can't help themselves but to rant and rave about how horrible people they don't agree with are. What an incredibly pathetic level of debate going, this is exactly what democracy is NOT about.

How about next time, instead of chanting campaign slogans, you all read up about your candidate's positions and actually find out which you agree with most, not which one "seems" best. Then you can debate, instead of rant and rave like a pack of idiots.
