Mitch is contested with a very viable candidate, Bruce Lunsford. The latest polls show Lunsford dead even with him.Mith is nervous and so he should be. He has not done anything for us in Kentucky. He has spent his time raising money for the Senate Republicans. He doesn't care about kids, working people or the state as a whole. With only the stroke of the straight ticket democratic vote we can rid the country of Bush, McConnell and McConnell's wife, Secretary of Labor, Elaine Chao, who has been a do nothing herself.

Just Wondering........

Where are all of the Hollywood celebrities holding telethons asking for help in restoring Iowa and helping the folks affected by the floods?

Where is all the media asking the tough questions about why the federal government hasn't solved the problem? Asking where the FEMA trucks and trailers are?

Why isn't the Federal Government relocating Iowa people to free hotels in Chicago ?

When will Spike Lee say that the Federal Government blew up the levees that failed in Des Moines ?

Where are Sean Penn and the Dixie Chicks?

Where are all the looters?

Where is the hysterical 24/7 media coverage complete with reports of cannibalism and shooting at helicopters? (which never happened in N.O. either, BTW)

Where are the people declaring that George Bush hates rural people?

How come in 2 weeks, you will never hear about the Iowa flooding ever again?

Just wondering...

If the Dems are in power it's important then to have a republican president. More checks and balances that are sadly lacking in the democratic party, which this farse of a primary season has shown.

If Not Hillary, then McCain...

If congressional repubs were shrewd, which I doubt few enough are, they'd paint the donkeys as the energy obstructionists they truly are, and ride the high gas prices all the way back to a House majority. I mean, lets be real... it's 30 plus years of needless government meddling with the markets that have painted us into this economic corner.

The government can't deliver the mail, yet liberal fools are clammering for the government to deliver healthcare and an answer to high energy costs, when it's the 30 years of government-induced constraints and roadblocks that CAUSED the conditions that CAUSED the prices to spike. Here's a clue to "helpful" liberal government: GET THE HELL OUT OF THE WAY!

The problem is Repubs simply don't play this game as brutally as liberals do, and as such, will likely spend the next 40 years wandering about the desert. Fools. If they only played the "take no prisoners" game the Clintons perfected...

Yes, but how many will be imached or serve jail time for the Ira war? 23 senators voted against; 77 voted for the war. Including many democrats. Why I am paying taxes for our 4 billion per year? I'm not talking dead ~100,000 Iraq people - nobody here seem care. These 77 senators - most of them are still in senate, not in jail.

Get your kids and grandkids ready for more of the same.
War, high gas, mortgage's nobody can afford, no healthcare,

You go ahead and vote republican, but don't cry to us when your kids have to go to wars based on lies.

Mitch McConnell's comments are more than welcome...in fact I hope they are understatement. Having vowed to never again vote for a Republican in my lifetime, I hope this is the beginning of a long time in the minority. And, while we are commenting on their dim prospects for the future, we are also reading that the Prez is busy preparing the ground for yet another war in Iran. I hope the future holds some war crimes prosecutions for certain Republicans.

Sharon Minnesota June 29th, 2008 4:02 pm ET

Don't count your chickens Mr. I'm voting a straight Republican ticket this election and I have a feeling before this is all finished I won't be the only one.

It doesn't pay to fortune tell.

****************************************************************************
No Sharon you won't be the only one.... but I won't be joining you in checking that box. Now will I check the Democrat box. No, I'm not some third party nutcase, instead, I vote with my head. Weighing the options, and choosing the best candidate for the job based on their accomplishments, not their party.
I'll admit that 90% that leads me to checking Democrat, so maybe I can't truly seperate myself from Parisanship, and no it doesn't mean my system is always perfect, I voted for Bush in 2000.
But it is a better option than ignoring the facts, sticking your head in your *censored*, and checking a partisan box.

McConnell has diarhea of the mouth and the prospects for him and his cohorts in the upcoming election should reflect their obstructionist parliamentary procedures to block the Senate's much needed work for the American people who are hurting, i.e. mortgage relief, Medicare updates, fuel prices, etc.

Hopefully, he will be one of those losing their current seats. If anything, it would be nice if all incumbent Democrats and Republicans up for reelection lose their Senate seats and felt the wrath of the American public for their arrogance toward the people and the Constitution.

If the Democ rats do pick up additional seats the first move s hould be to strip Senator Lieberman of all Senate chairmanships so he can become a true Republican.

Who do the Republicans have to blame? For six years they owned the House and the Senate. For six more years they owned the presidency, the House, the Senate, and the Supreme Court.

To all of you Conservatives who voted them in: what do you have to show for it? No flag burning amendment, no action on abortion, no effort to reduce government size, no reduction in spending, no fiscal responsibility, no morality in government, no tax cut for anyone who earns less than $500,000 annually (unless you count chump-change as a tax cut), no decrease in crime, nothing. Your vote gave the nation government-for-sale, open bribery, no-bid-single-supplier government contracts, a broken military, the national credit cards are maxed out, and we are in very bad shape.

You were suckers for a bunch of con-artists in thousand dollar suits.

COMPLETE CONTROL? I CANNOT BELIEVE THAT ANY

WOULD ALLOW REPUBLICANS TO TAKE OUR COUNTRY TO

Republicans only have themselves to blame for their unpopularity. Instead of doing what's best for the country, they've ignored the issues that effect the average America, they've started a needless and costly war and have become the party of borrow and spend.

Unless the Ron Paul types take over their party and bring back real conservative values, America needs to vote them out of existence.

Tax and spend...here we come. It's going to take a STRONG Congress to stand up against the obama machine.

All the Dems have done is cackle and block every good thing that the Repubs could come up with.

All hail the tax and spend destruction of America.

GOOD now we can get some work done for this country...
i do not blame the condition of this country entirely on Bush, the GOP, the Republican house or any of them...no the brunt of the blame goes to all the American people who voted for these greedy fools. that's who's to blame. i am sick to think that you people voted for Bush a second time...tisk tisk you fools. but God only help you if you vote for Mr McCain...KEATING 5 says volumes of this candidate...evasion of taxes speaks "straight" to the heart of those loosing their homes, flip flop on the issues as well as his own bill, speaks straight to the heart of America, Mr. McCain we hear you even on the weekends. we see you no matter which of the 7 homes you hide in.
Mr. McCain, America is tired of the same old "lying" politician and that is why we true Americans are voting for Barack Hussein Obama

With the Republican party, led by President Bush, hell bent on going to war with Iran before he leaves office, they (the Republicans) don't deserve any seats anywhere in this government.

Impeach Bush NOW, stop the madness. If Bush goes to war with Iran, the next President should haul him and Dick up on war crimes (and house them in Cuba awaiting that trial)!

Hmmm...Bush 3rd term or Jimmy Carter 2nd term? No winner there.

Since Dems have taken over the house and senate, things have gotten even worse. Of course, having a president with the BS morality of evangelical conservatives and the spending of a liberal is no better. Our politicians are just sad on both sides of the aisle.

You all seem to think that if we get out of Iraq there will money for what we need right here at home. Wrong! Greedy Tot is promising to spend Iraq dollars on everybody's favorite projects. Guess what? It's all borrowed money, and instead of spending it in Iraq, we'll paying China. So no free lunch, kids. Democrats may get the senate, but they better not start spending bucks because No.1 needs to get paid. That would be China.

I'd rather see some genuine republicans handling the money next time around-get rid of the Bush spendthrifts and let's see some good old fashioned SPENDING RESTRAINT.

We need a 3rd Party.

I AM VOTING FOR THE "WRITE PARTY" THIS NOVEMBER and writing in Hillary Rodham Clinton for President. The Clintons need to start their own 3rd Party, not support Obama.

Like many of Hillary's supporters, I am too poor to send a substantial donation to Hillary, but I still have what counts...ONE VOTE...just like all the McCain conservative millionaires and Obama elitist millionaires.

I intend to use my one vote and join the "Write Party".

Hillary in 2008. Let's make real history!

Read the Headlines....George and Dick are now making plans to attack Iran. This time the supposition Nuclear Weapons vs. WMD's.

I agree 110% with Mitch! By the time the warmongers George and Dick get out of office there won't be a Repbulican Party! They'll have to clean house to the bare bones, initiate another other party name, another party mandate, and all new members, before any reasonable minded man or woman will even contemplate being a party to the party!

Man I hope we all live long eough to read the History recorded on this Administration! Of course, that's a big gamble I know with George and Dick planning our collective demise at every turn!

Of course the Republicans will lose seats this November. That's what happens when Republican candidates are not true conservatives but instead offer "Democrat-lite." When the Democrats promise "free stuff," all the Republicans seem to be able to do is put up candidates who say, "Well, we'll give you free stuff, too, but not as much as the dems." No wonder they lose; they've forgotten their principles - while their opponents never lose sight of their socialist goals.

The Republicans won't be a majority party unless they have charismatic candidates who vigorously support lower taxes, reduced regulation, smaller government, free-market capitalism, limited government, and a strong (but non-interventionist) defense. A left-leaning Republican like McCain isn't going to have any "coattails" to help any of his party's candidates, even if he wins in November.

GOP won't be in the majority, BUT (and this is where it gets good) the Democrats will blame everything that goes wrong (and a lot always does with Dem congresses and presidents) on the Republicans. Write this down and check back a year from now and see how many times that will have happened in just the first 6 months of an Obama presidency and a Dem congress.

Mitch is right-the writing is on the wall. Democrats will take the White House, and both houses of Congress. Hopefully we can seat a couple of logical Supreme Court members to overrule the Bush acolytes before they overturn Roe V. Wade.
The only way the Republicans stay is if Bush stages an attack in October, declares martial law, and suspends the elections (He has an Executive Order enabling this!) So may God bless us every one!

Americans are sick of nothing getting done. The reason the Democrats have a better agenda is because they stand for EVERYBODY. Next year we'll have a Democratic house and senate, and a Democratic President.

I am an independent but now realize I made the mistake of voting for Bush last time because I believed all the propaganda about Iraq. I am going to vote for Obama because McCain is already showing signs of dementia or alzheimers. Republicans are for fiscally responsible government....right. How can McCain and his colleagues believe that it makes sense to continue borrowing trillions of dollars to support a war that our kids will be paying for for decades. A war that the American public and even Mr. Bushes party now realize was a big mistake. Mr.Bush's brownshirts are marching lock step with him so as to save face. Bush will harm his party with the biggest drubbing in history. Mr. McConnell, thank you for your prediction. I believe that you will be one of those going down along with Mr. bathroom foot tapper Sen. Craig.
