Lieberman is a backer of McCain.
Lieberman is a backer of McCain.

(CNN) — Sen. Joe Lieberman, the Democrat-turned-Independent who is a strong supporter of Republican John McCain's White House bid, suggested Sunday the United States will likely face a terrorist attack in 2009.

The controversial comments followed remarks by top John McCain adviser Charlie Black late last week that a terrorist attack leading up the the general election would probably help the Arizona senator's White House hopes.

Watch: McCain adviser apologizes for comments

"Our enemies will test the new president early," Lieberman told CBS Sunday. "Remember that the truck bombing of the World Trade Center happened in the first year of the Clinton administration. 9/11 happened in the first year of the Bush administration."

McCain and his supporters have long argued the presumptive Republican presidential nominee is better-suited to handle the country's foreign policy challenges than Barack Obama.

Watch: Lieberman touts McCain

"[McCain] knows the world," Lieberman said. "He's been tested. He's ready to protect the security of the American people."

But Lieberman, who served as the Democratic vice presidential nominee in 2000, distanced himself from Black's contention that a terrorist attack would boost McCain's chances of winning the Oval Office.

"Sometimes even the best of them say things that are not what they intended to say," Lieberman said. "Certainly the implications there I know were not what Charlie intended. And he apologized for it. Senator McCain said he didn't agree. And, of course, I feel the same way.

Lieberman, who calls himself an "independent Democrat," endorsed McCain in early December.

This is nothing new. The threat of terror exists everyday, even moreso since failed Bush policy in Iraq and Afghanistan have turned those two countries into terrorist incubators.
Obama might have been aware of this if he'd attended any of the meetings of the committee on Afghanistan he chairs, but he's too busy on more pressing issues like setting up a PR committee for his wife.

Kensing James   June 30th, 2008 11:34 am ET

CNN,

Please do the American people a favour by desisting from referring to Joe Liberman as a democrat, because we all know that he is not a member of the democratic party. HE IS AN "INDEPENDENT" WHO REALLY IS A REPUBLICAN. What comes out of his mouth is consistent with the language and tactics of his party – the republican party. He is well aware that without scaring the American people, his candidate – John McCain – has no chance of winning the November ballot. But you know what, the American people have become very familiar with that line in the republican playbook and come November that line will not work this time. And guess what, McCain will lose big!!

Michelle, Indiana   June 30th, 2008 11:34 am ET

Will McCain protect America the way he protected military information as a POW?

From the article written by McCain in May 1973 for US News & World Report –

I think it was on the fourth day that two guards came in, instead of one. One of them pulled back the blanket to show the other guard my injury……..I said, "O.K., I'll give you military information if you will take me to the hospital."

They took me up into one of the interrogation rooms, and for the next 12 hours we wrote and rewrote. The North Vietnamese interrogator, who was pretty stupid, wrote the final confession, and I signed it. It was in their language, and spoke about black crimes, and other generalities.

This is the Military Code of Conduct
The Code: Consisting of six articles in simple language, the United States Military Code of Conduct orders American military personnel to resist capture at all cost and if captured; to attempt to escape, to give the enemy no information other than name, rank, serial number and date of birth, to take charge if senior, to obey orders of the seniors, to accept no favors from the enemy and to make no written or oral statements disloyal to the United States.

I don't know about any of you, but this kind of protection I can do without.

McCain admonishes Obama for wanting to talk to the Iranian government, but he himself collaborated with the enemy with whom we were at war. Isn't what he did much worse than just talking to someone with whom we are trying to prevent going to war?

Jeremy in Boston   June 30th, 2008 11:34 am ET

If we suffer another terrorist attack in 2009, then all that will demonstrate is that the Bush/McCain/Lieberman anti-terror policies of the last 8 years have been a complete and utter unmitigated FAILURE.

Why would we continue putting our safety in your hands Sen. Lieberman? Why would we trust your judgement on how to defeat terrorism?

You can't have it both ways. Either we haven't been attacked since 2001 because you're right, or we will be attacked because you've been wrong all along.

He is wright . Do you think it is just luck that attacks tend to happen in a new term. If Obama takes office I think we have more chances of being attacked.I don't want want to be called a fear monger so let me say this if Obama is elected i am going to stay out of city and away from planes.

Venus   June 30th, 2008 11:33 am ET

Here we go with the fear!

So… since McCain was a POW for 5 years after being shot down – means he is no better for any attacks than Obama!

Cathy in MD   June 30th, 2008 11:33 am ET

Let’s hope Lieberman is wrong. To fire a warning shot, however, and incite speculation and unwarranted panic about another terrorist attack as a way to somehow legitimize McCain’s political agenda – at any cost – is horribly irresponsible, reckless, and dishonorable … but not surprising. Can someone please tell me exactly in what ways John McCain “knows the world,” how “he’s been tested” and made “ready to protect the security of the American people?” As much as I honor him for his service to this country, being shot down and held prisoner of war does not count in this case. What specific experience does he have that qualifies him more than Barack Obama to be President of the United States? I just don’t see it.

Nik   June 30th, 2008 11:33 am ET

All Gore lovers should remember his lack of judgment in picking this guy as his running-mate.

Ryan   June 30th, 2008 11:33 am ET

I think Liberman brought up a good point. History often repeats itself and the 1st year of a new president is definitely a time to be wary of an attack. It's not fear mongering. They're discussing reality.

Ms D   June 30th, 2008 11:33 am ET

The GOP is in a catch 22 because while they hope it be a terrorist attack to boost Mccains chances, if it happens to be one it will make Mccain look weak. Mccain adopted the same failed policies as Bush and this would mean our country is less secured!!

The GOP is so desparate to win and the war is the only thing they can use.

Wake up America   June 30th, 2008 11:33 am ET

Lieberman is just encouraging more fear because that is the only way his kind can win an election and get support. He is no Democrat and does not speak for the people of CT. He has his own agenda and it has nothing to do with the hard working citizens of CT. He is an elitist and an arrogant fear monger.

If there are any new terrorist attacks it's because these hawks staged them or allowed them to happen so they can push their corrupt policies and take away more freedoms and make more money.

Disgruntled Former Republican   June 30th, 2008 11:32 am ET

Terrorism: -noun
1. the use of violence, fear and threats to intimidate or coerce, esp. for political purposes.

Read the definition again then consider the GOP rhetoric of late…

So very subtle of Senator Lieberman, using a hypothetical "inevitable" act of terroism to promote 4 more years of McSame.

His statement is just a not-so clever rewording of Charlie Blacks irresponsible remarks.

Although Lieberman, along with Charlie Black and the rest of the GOP, may have come to the grim conclusion that a terrorist attack is John McSames only hope for a November victory, using fear to promote their candidate is dispicable, but then, that's is what the GOP has become.

What do YOU know   June 30th, 2008 11:32 am ET

What a dispicable comment. Even if it happens to be true, you shut your mouth about it. If something DOES happen now, I'm going to accuse Lieberman of being in on it. McCain becoming elected would surely give the terrorists more reason to attack, cause they know he is going to try to pull the same garbage worldwide as our current joke of a commander and chief. Have some decency and respect you pompous demagogue.

John in Ohio   June 30th, 2008 11:31 am ET

If our political landscape was Lord of the Rings, Lieberman would be Grimer Wormtongue.

You'd have McCain as Saruman, once a decent politician but now twisted and insane. Reid could be the doddering and ineffective but ultimately heroic Theoden. Cheney is Sauron, of course, with Bush as the witch-king of Angmar, leader of the Nazgul. Gandalf would probably wind up being… Ted Kennedy, with Richard Durbin as Elrond. Cast Obama as Aragorn, Feingold as Gimli, Barney Frank as Legolas (obvious), and Kucinich as all the hobbits (waaay more obvious), and we're ready to make a summer blockbuster!

Willow, from Iowa   June 30th, 2008 11:31 am ET

I am almost more fearful of our soldiers in Iraq told to enter Iran and spread the war , before the election. They are into covert operations now, and there is an article on "Preparing the battlefield".

Hopefully the Muslim nations will "wait and see", If Obama is elected, there is a real possibility of diplomacy and openness that we haven't had in 8 years or more.

Typical of the Repubs to start the fear campaign.

Mike - Texas   June 30th, 2008 11:31 am ET

I am afraid that Leiberman might be right. Especially it the US goes back to its pre 9/11 way of thinking.

How many times were we attacked during the Clinton era??

The US at that time was considered a "paper tiger" with no bite. And Obama will have us go back to the same old way of doing business.

Frank   June 30th, 2008 11:31 am ET

RSR   June 30th, 2008 11:31 am ET

I don't believe there will be any terrorist attack before the new President is sworn into office. Reason being, that if there is an attack before the election, that seals a win for McCain. Thats the worse thing those thugs want. They want their buddy Obama to win. They know he's weak, inexperienced, and not qualified to fight the war on terror. They know Obama actually sides with terrorists. Here's a fact, research it yourself. In 2006, right before Obama announced his run for President, he visited Kenya. While there, he campaigned on behalf of his half-brother & cousin, Their names, Odinga & Abongo. They are Marxist rebels aligned with Muslim terrorists attempting to overthrow the stable democratic government of Kenya. Obama was supporting this! Google in: Obama, Odinga, Abongo, and see.

Brian   June 30th, 2008 11:30 am ET

I want to be fair with my comment but it just doesn't seem possible. I'm an Independent and while I am leaning left this Election I am still willing to listen and see what McCain has to say. In the past week though you've had 1 person inside his campaign come out and say that a terrorist attack would be "GOOD" for his election, and now you have a former Dem turned Independent saying that we'll "LIKELY" have an attack in 2009?

I am a person who likes to use my brain and when I hear comments like that, I have to sit back and say "wow". I understand that people say things that they don't always mean, and in politics things can be twisted 10 different ways but those comments are those type of Fear Mongering tactics that won the 2004 Election for Governor Bush.

McCain calls for Obama to denouse Wesley Clark's Comments regarding McCain's Military service profile, and he should be doing the same for his own supporters.

This headline is very misleading. Though he caucuses with the Democrats, Lieberman is no longer a Democrat in anyone's book. He supports McCain and the link on CNN's home page should not call Lieberman a Democrat.

That said, this is reminiscent of the fear-mongering of the 2004 Bush campaign and is a sad tactical ploy being used by one of the now least-relevant senators. I cannot wait for 2010 when Lieberman loses his seat.

Rachel   June 30th, 2008 11:29 am ET

WOW!!

Sen. Lieberman suggests that terrorists routinely "test" "our presidents" and, that they (terrorists) choose to do it rather early.
What an interesting perspective!

My only question is: didn't then the current president, whos support McCain sought, miserably fail the "early test"??

James Doe   June 30th, 2008 11:29 am ET

McCain makes it too easy for his candidacy to be painted as a third term of George W. Bush. When you use the same fear tactics as the other guy and hire a lot of the same staff, then, well…it's a duck

Craig- Easton, PA   June 30th, 2008 11:28 am ET

My initial reaction was "yet another GOP scare tactic", but having read the contecxt of the remarks, it's not an unreasonable point considering the history. I don't agree with Joe's prescription of voting for McCain, but the issue is a fair one. Sme thing goes for Wes Clark's comments. Frankly, I read the remarks and fail to see any attack at all. He praised McCain' service, pointed out that he did not have the kind of executive experience in the military that equates to what he would experience as President, and noted that being shot down in of itself is not a qualification. Yeah, he's leaving out the years in the Senate, but it's not up to a campaign to tout their opponents pluses. I don't get this silly hypersentsitivity.

I think most anyone with brains has noticed the pattern of attacking a new administration in the Oval Office. So, why do people keep talking about it in the media? I don't think it is in the best interests of national security to do so.

Why let potential attackers know what you are thinking, even if it is disinformation? I've found the best approach is to take a page from mother nature's playbook. Play dumb and dead.

bridgette   June 30th, 2008 11:26 am ET

America be prepared they are telling us that there is a terrorist attack that is going to happen and they know about it but they are not going to do anything too stop it. That is how sick these Republicans are. To get what they want they would allow another attack where thousands upon thousands of people will get killed and they are going too sit back and allow it too happen just like they did for 9/11. So they can give them a reason too attack Iran. Just like they used it for Iraq. Wake up America stop worrying about Madonna, Britney, Beyonce, and all of these other celebrities and pay attention too what these mad men are doing who's running the country. We have dictators in office.

If Joe Lieberman and Charlie Black can't scare the public with their terrorist bogeyman, the Decider-In-Chief will have to declare war on Iran in order to play to John McCain's only campaign strength…

The really sad part of this whole thing is the number of Americans that can't tell the difference between fear mongering motivated by political desperation versus reality.

Mr. Lieberman,
It is good to know that your political careear is in it's twilight years, so the rest of us won't have to deal with your overtly Zionist agenda. War-mongering went out of style in about 2005, so if you could just quiet down with the anti-Iranian, terrorist-fearing rhetoric during the election cycle we would all be more informed voters for it. Watch out for Lieberman, Secretary of Defense.

The Republicans will have you think that the 9/11 attacks took months to years to plan and execute (while Clinton was in office). Now that Bush has been in office 8 years, Lieberman and the Republicans seem to want you to think that if a terrorist attack occurs if/when Obama wins, it's the Democrats fault.
Guys…I don't know if Obama is the answer or not…but I know that what we've been doing isn't working. We need change. We need someone to stand up for the American people. Vote your conscious people…not along party lines.

For anyone to say that the US had not been made a safer place since 9/11 is a fool, and no one is saying that an eminent terrorist attack will be sucessful, merely that such an attack is likely to happen. Lets also keep in mind that the democrats were in power when the first threat of terrorism touched our shores, and the issue was ignored. Bash Bush and the republican nominee all you want, but keep in mind that we have not had a single terrorist incident in the US since 9/11, must just be dumb luck. As for wesley Clarks comments, simply irresponsible, and a lame attempt to try and degrade McCains ability to react to an issue of significance. Obama and his administration will be able to handle our nation's security issues because he'll seek help from the most qualified experts across party lines, unlike Bush who think the he and his pals alone know what is best for everybody!

It's ridiculous to hear the 24%ers claim Bush has prevented a SECOND attack when everyone knows our borders are not even remotely protected from people sneaking in. He had 8 months to prevent the first one and completely failed.

Dave   June 30th, 2008 11:23 am ET

The low lifes are at it again…campaign through fear, smear, and intimidation. When is American REALLY going to get tired of this crap and show these slime the door? "Elect a Republican or we're ALL GONNA DIE!!!"
My contempt for these people knows no bounds now, just as the levels to which they will stoop to stay in power knows no bounds, knows no ethical boundaries. When you consider for whom to vote, remember what the Republican slime machine did to decorated Veterans Tammy Duckworth, John Kerry , and Max Cleland (two of whom, Duckworth and Cleland are missing limbs from their service) in turning these decorated veterans into traitors and cowards when these three exemplify what it is to be an American, and the Republican Slime Machine exemplies cowardice and fearmongering.

steveg   June 30th, 2008 11:22 am ET

LIEberman is an opportunistic weasel who will change party affiliation depending on the political currents and jump ship for his own selfish interests. The only way this dullard can get any press is to flip, flop and flounder between parties and policies and make inflammatory statements.

He really should be McCain's running mate … they are equally adept at reinventing positions and pandering to the polls. At least McCain used to stand for something, now he stands for pimping himself to various power bases within the GOP in some transparent attempt to get votes.

Both are sad statements on what people will do for political gains,

wally   June 30th, 2008 11:22 am ET

It just goes to show…that President Bush's battle is "justified."

Donkey Party   June 30th, 2008 11:22 am ET

I think it's safe to say that Mr. Lieberman has all but alienated himself from the Democratic Party and his own constituents, he's not exactly trusted by the Republicans, and Independents never really know which way this guy will go. So what support does that leave him with? McCain? Which then begs the question, what does McCain stand to gain from keeping Lieberman around as a lapdog?

Jack   June 30th, 2008 11:21 am ET

My – the obama group seems Very SCARED! Could it be that maybe their guy – obama really is NOT ready – , NOT qualified to lead our country. Obama is a FRAUD and is NOT qualified!
This is NOT on the job Training – we need a REAL President of the USA!

Watermann   June 30th, 2008 11:21 am ET

McCaine, Black, Lieberman. Who is next and why is McCaine better in national security than Obama?

The "famous month of June" is almost over, but there are still a couple of months ahead. Let`s keep our fingers crossed so that the US and Senator Obama are still in a good shape in fall and January 2009.

NPA   June 30th, 2008 11:21 am ET

The republicans would love an attack. Talking about a third term of Bush! Bush went to war with Iraq because a war time president is more memorable. McCain is running as a war hero. I wonder if he — McCain — wouldn't try to launch us into a war were he to become president just to complete his war hero record.

joe in VA   June 30th, 2008 11:21 am ET

You Obamaniacs are so hypocritical! If this is "fear-mongering" what do you call Wesley Clarks comments? You all appear to be brainwashed by the BHO machine.

I wish for once y'all would try an objective view instead of slamming everyone who disagrees with you.

If tehis is teh type of "new politics" I can expect from BHO, I'll vote for anyone EXCEPT him come november. you all are disgusting.

JustAnObservation   June 30th, 2008 11:20 am ET

I'm not saying that McCain can do a better job, but is Lieberman right? Terrorist attacks have happened in the first term of the last two presidency? Is anyone disputing that? Acknowledging that isn't a bad thing.

You all sound like "sheeple" yourselves when you rant without thinking it through.

Lieberman tells it as he sees it.   June 30th, 2008 11:20 am ET

McCain know how to deal with this.

proud army and navy mom   June 30th, 2008 11:20 am ET

it is truly pathetic how trying to spread fear is the only object Mcbush has. and he uses a pathetic old goat liberman to do it.

If there was a terrorist attack, i would trust the judgment of the democrats, that i feel have learned their lessons from 911 and President Obama' good judgment and stedfast courage to handle it much better than senile, warmongering Mccain.

Dan - Atlanta   June 30th, 2008 11:20 am ET

Joe Woe is at it again. If Lieberman has any definite information about a terrorist attack on America in 2009, then he should turn his information over to authorities, and then keep his mouth shut about it. If he doesn't have any definite information, his comments are irresponsible scare tactics done for political gain that deserve no coverage by major news organizations. In either case, Joe Woe needs to zip his lips.

gurarro   June 30th, 2008 11:20 am ET

Joe, if you know something that the next President needs to know, wouldn't it be wise to share that information with him and his advisors now. Why wait until the terrorist attack to say "I told you so". ?

Dominic   June 30th, 2008 11:19 am ET

Fear fear and fear!! It's the only thing these guys have to sell.
It's all they can mention, because they've made a complete and total mess out of EVERYTHING they've done while they've been in power these past seven years.
All they have is the fear card. It's disgusting that Lieberman is basically hoping for an attack so it would help McCain. What a disgusting coward Lieberman is.

ALECO1 -----NOKOMIS,FL   June 30th, 2008 11:19 am ET

After almost 8 years of this fear mongering garbage I'm certainly hoping the American public has finally wised up to this republican game. Even if there should be some sort of attack one wonders first if it was orchestrated, since this bunch seems to capable of anything and everything or second they are the so-called security experts and if this happens on their watch what does it say about their abilities to keep the country safe?

Sue   June 30th, 2008 11:19 am ET

Lieberman is horrible. He should start being honest with the people and declare that he is truly a Republican. He is certainly no independent Democrat. He has been kissing up to the Republicans since he ran as an "independent". I would not give any credence to anything he says.

elmerg   June 30th, 2008 11:19 am ET

Endlessly Moderated and Censored for No Good Reason   June 30th, 2008 11:17 am ET

For those of you who think that Obama "voted against the war"–

Obama was not even a United States Senator at the time that the
vote on the Iraq war was conducted!

All that Obama did was give a speech about the war in
his Illinois district.

Julia   June 30th, 2008 11:17 am ET

OK, scare tactics aside, how WILL Obama handle this prediction if it comes true? Will we be better off with Obama? Is he going to talk he way out of it? The Bush presidency is a legacy of failure, no doubt, but I'm not sure that Obama would be the best commander in chief if something as catastrophic as 9/11 was repeated. So now that it's been posed, and you liberals are clearly reading and commenting on this, what do you propose he will do?

eric   June 30th, 2008 11:17 am ET

The Republicans WANT another terrorist attack. They'd gladly see more Americans die if it would help win future elections. You never hear these statements from "unpatriotic" Democrats.

BAMAFALIFE   June 30th, 2008 11:17 am ET

Fear =-mongering at its best. What a way to TRICK the American public. This is LOW down and DIRTY. Playing on people's worst fears–and filling their heads with horrible lies. I HATE that you think this is a GOOD thing to do–but then again, you run with Caney-Cane–and together, you will espouse lies to the known world…

Jason   June 30th, 2008 11:17 am ET

Does this mean that Bush has not kept up safe from more terrorist attacks, like he promised?

Tony C.   June 30th, 2008 11:17 am ET

Don't be fooled people, not again anyway!

McCain can denounce Charlie Black's comment about an attack being good for McCain's chances in November, as I am sure he will put out a statement sometime today or tomorrow doing the same with Lieberman's remarks.

Don't be suckered into believeing that McCain doesn't wish for another attack or doesn't agree with both Lieberman and Black to boost his chances against Obama.

McCain has these clowns making these statements for him since he cannot as the nominee, and don't believe for one moment that McCain is not in 100% agreement with them.

REPUBLICANS = Lying, cheating, FEAR. fraud.

Please remember that the next president will more than likely have the opportunity to naem at least 3 Justices to the Supreme Court, possibly 4. If that man is McCain you can expect strict, conservative, far right leaning justices to be appointed.

THAT SHOULD SCARE THE HELL OUT OF EVERYONE, even more than Black. Liberman and McCains wish of another attack. Those appointments are for life and affect every single one of us and I would much rather a Democrat make those appointmetns than any republican…any day!

THINK people, before you vote. Hasn't the last 8 years taught anyone anything????

The comment is historically accurate going back to the Kennedy Administration and the Cuban missile crisis. There is nothing controversial here, our enemies whoever they might be at any given time will always test a new administration. This is a historical fact, not a "controversial" comment.

Bob   June 30th, 2008 11:15 am ET

Liberman is a sad sad generation in American politics. It will be sader to see him go down with mccain when he get defeated in November and that will be the 5th sad going down of Lie-berman!

Angel from Florida   June 30th, 2008 11:15 am ET

Senator Lieberman should tell us where and when the attack will happen since he knows it will occur in 2009. Perhaps this attack will be used as the reason for us to go to war with Iran. My fellow Americans, don't be fooled by this fear mongering. The current administration has done nothing but make us weaker in every since of the word and now we re all suffering financially because of the money used for this bogus war.

Susan from Scotts Valley   June 30th, 2008 11:15 am ET

And here we go! It's so simple.

1) A terrorist attack will happen.
2) John McCain is better for national security.
3) We must elect John McCain.

Hopefully Americans are a little smarter than to fall for this ruse again. If we've been doing such a good job in building up homeland security and defeating terrorism all over the world, why will this happen as soon as George W leaves office? I know…lets let HIM stay in office to keep us safe for another four years. It's just as ridiculous as electing John McCain or believing anything Lieberman says.

Hopefully the Democrats will stop letting this poser caucus with them.

Susan

While those who speak the truth are heralded in some countries, here you're hammered if you do that – especially in an election year. Does anybody REALLY think this is not a possibility, even a probability?

Does anyone REALLY think this fear is not quietly shared by every American who is thinking at all? I'm no fan of Leiberman, but he is NOT John McCain.

And for those die-hard Democrats who will use these remarks to paint McCain as a fear monger, this is the guy YOU ran for VP, not McCain or the Republicans. So much for the good judgment of Dems in America in the beginning of the 21st century.

Jeff   June 30th, 2008 11:15 am ET

I think old Joe has gone senile. I am a democrat that will not support Obama in the fall, but these statements are absurd. I guess Joe and the republicans once again want America to believe that there is a terrorist under every rock.

Lieberman is now a suspect and not a person for any respect. Now I doubt why those SAUDIS bomb twin towers instead of many other politically sensitive targets.

Further, BUSH did not follow the SAUDI TRAIL of those 911 bombers but started bombing in Iraq! No Iraqis involved in the 911 attack.

Lieberman must be arrested and drilled about this information.

Veteran for McCain   June 30th, 2008 11:13 am ET

I think Lieberman is just stating a fact about the last 2 terror attacks that have taken place on US soil. Now if something did happen in the first year of Obama/McCain's presidency who would you want making that call? I would rather it be McCain, but that's the decision we all need to make. If you don't think this that big of a deal then put it lower on your priority list and vote for the candidate that agrees with you on your #1 priority, whatever that might be.

Stop the dumb attacks to!!! Can't we have a legitimate debate here?

Donkey Party   June 30th, 2008 11:13 am ET

Now this is pathetic. Lieberman should be ashamed.

Chipster   June 30th, 2008 11:13 am ET

It's clear that Lieberman drank too much of the Kool-Aid. Here's a tip for Lieberman: you cannot scare me into relinquishing my liberty. Living in a free country is risky but well worth defending the freedom that you and your Republican friends have tried to destroy.

Democrats plan to dust off the U.S. Constitution and re-deploy it! You and your scare-mongers should go hide under your beds if you're too afraid to live free. Due process, judicial review, accountability, clean air, and sunshine are coming back in style. False patriots are no longer welcome.

Joe   June 30th, 2008 11:12 am ET

Lieberman is a true politician….a true Republican politician. I wonder if he would have backed John McCain if he were still a Democrat? Nevertheless, this statement shows me that Lieberman has bought into the Republican way of thinking….winnning be fear. He might as well register as a Republican because there is nothing INDEPENDENT about his thinking.

fojohnson   June 30th, 2008 11:12 am ET

Why do the republican alway bring fear in the mind of the American when it is election time? They forget all the hardship that is happening here. I hope people will not fall for fear mongering this time. The said the same about Bush and even before his swearing in as president. Shouldn't we wish the best for our country instead of thinking about the worst?

This from a graduate of the Military Academy, but let's see where he is from? Oh Arkansas! A BUBBA. Now I see where Clark is coming from.

It seems to me Clark is using "is" as a singular and also as a plural verb. Clinton used "is" as a question. So now I suppose using "is" as a plural verb is in the vogue? Such as, "I is from Ohio and I is happy to be supporting McCain.

Nice, Mr. Clark is this a subtle way for you to "dis" Obama or is you trying hard to be our next VP nominee?

Michael Lorton, Virginia   June 30th, 2008 11:12 am ET

If McCain/Lieberman are so certain of the attack, why don't they take steps to stop it — like maybe capturing BinLadin, or maybe predicting where it will take place. Face it, numerous terrorists are always trying to find ways to attack us — every day, every minute. Some will succeed. This terror/fear mongering is the desperation of a losing campaign with a party that has no solutions, no vision, and no leadership.

Note that Joe Lieberman is a democrat. He is only one of the few democrats in the congress who is actually a statesman and cares more about the country than he does for the party.

john   June 30th, 2008 11:09 am ET

Unbelievable ! now McCain uses ' terrorist attack ' to get the vote, how low can McCain be ? If we got attacked, it is Bush's fault, it is Republicans fault. Why can't they stop now if they already know it ?

Jessica in IL   June 30th, 2008 11:09 am ET

Why would anyone listen to a man who didn't make the cut 8 years ago?

abby   June 30th, 2008 11:09 am ET

What a lowlife this man has become!

NO FEAR!!!! Not this time!!!!!

Does It Matter?   June 30th, 2008 11:09 am ET

I always thought Lieberman was pathetic. Now I'm certain of it.

Dan Sczepanski, New York   June 30th, 2008 11:09 am ET

Unfortunately, you nut-wing liberals don't want to listen to someone who probably knows the dangers out there better than a whole lot of people.

WBW OHIO   June 30th, 2008 11:08 am ET

If it happens we will sure as hell will know who the perpetrators are
And it will not be OBL.

Independent in Miami   June 30th, 2008 11:08 am ET

I wonder what these people really know. Was this just one person that didn't attend the super-secret meeting and let one out? I firmly believe Bush had knowledge of the September 11th attacks and I think people in the "know" have knowledge of something coming soon. Gas prices are already at an all time high and now a terrorist attack?!?!

Pres. Bush, have you really made our country better? Pres. Clinton, did you have your eye on the ball or were you too busy protecting your own skin with the Lewinsky scandal?

Obama 08

DA   June 30th, 2008 11:08 am ET

He's ready alright, he'll just go along with whatever the joint chiefs of staff tell him to do. If Kennedy did that, half the world would of been wiped out.

What do you think Obama is going to do if there is a terrorist attack, run in a corner and hide? Give me a break people.

What we need and have been lacking all these years is a president that exercises good judgement.

Ogden   June 30th, 2008 11:08 am ET

Predicting or hoping?

PG   June 30th, 2008 11:08 am ET

Here we go again. Scare the American people into voting for a Repub. Well, it won't work this time.

Anna, SW Missouri   June 30th, 2008 11:08 am ET

I thought that the Republicans had made us safer. Now they are saying that everything they have been doing for our national defense will fail and we will be attacked. Just exactly what has "Homeland Security" been doing for the past 6 years?

Karen from Charlottesville   June 30th, 2008 11:08 am ET

Well, it just goest to show that the Republicans haven't made the US one bit safer than it was before Homeland Security.

Lenore Z.   June 30th, 2008 11:08 am ET

Joe Lieberman is simply beneath contempt. He betrayed his own party, and he's nothing but a mouthpiece for Bush's wars.

dew5050   June 30th, 2008 11:08 am ET

They have started again, fear mongers!

On every issue, they are losing and they now feel that the only option left for them is to trump-up fear. But Americans won't fall for that this time around. You can't win an election by exploiting people with fear mongering!

If Mcsame and his cronies have now become experts in predicting terrorists attacks, I would venture to say that they are now secretly in alliance with them.

Fool me once shame to you, fool me twice shame to me!

Reality Check Richmond Virginia   June 30th, 2008 11:08 am ET

come on, he is not anymore "ready" than any Obama……or Barr……or maybe even Nader. Whoever the president is, he will hopefully surround himself with the people who will advise them correctly(cough,cough…Bush)……..and "responding" to a terroist attack should be less of an issue for the president himself. Even George Bush succeeded with that.

I'm not nearly as concerned with how the president will respond as I am with how the government agencies concerned will respond……we have seen how a lack of leadership from top to bottom can screw that up(cough,cough….Katrina).

The question is, how effective will the next presidents response be with the mess the Bush administration has left the next president.

KM   June 30th, 2008 11:08 am ET

I can say that a terrorist attack will happen before the end of 2008 but it still doesn't mean that I'm right. A terrorist attack can happen on any president's watch, Republican or Democrat, it's what happens after that attack that defines us.

HOUSTON TEXAS   June 30th, 2008 11:08 am ET

WHAT AN IDIOT

Richard   June 30th, 2008 11:07 am ET

Just another crazy making crazy statements. Theres no way for anyone to determine when the next attack will happen if any and this is just a way for the republicans to get the votes. Very sad.

linda n carolina   June 30th, 2008 11:07 am ET

Sen Reid….Get some #%#%s and remove him from his committee chairmanship. Democrats don't need anything that bad that we have to cater to this man. He's just another mouth piece for Republican fear mongering . Maybe he needs to give a speech this week on his patriotism!!!

anonymous   June 30th, 2008 11:07 am ET

What a disgrace: to suggest such an evil happening to innocent people, only to gain political advantage. I would have felt very ashamed, if I said something so unethical, Mr Lieberman. But yet again, the latter individual has repeatedly shown no respect for the values of the American people. What a disgrace.

CNNFan   June 30th, 2008 11:07 am ET

Once again it's that time of year to start sending panic through the public about terrorist attacks. Before the last presidential election there were, I believe, at least 5 or 6 orange alerts, all false. After the election, there have been no alerts from homeland security. This is a typical ploy by the Republican machine to use fear to garner votes. They are certainly not going to get votes based on the horrendous economy that they have had the last 8 – 12 years to decimate.

Chicagoway   June 30th, 2008 11:07 am ET

Well, here come the weekly elevated terror warnings next. Clearly, it will be elevated to red right around the time of the general election voting.

Jim Shimmer   June 30th, 2008 11:07 am ET

Fear mongering will not work.

I think the economy is most important and McSame fails just like Bush. We are way worse off than we were 8 years ago.

PLEASE PEOPLE, WAKE UP. Check your wallets! Your savings!
ELECT SOMEONE WHO KNOWS YOUR PAIN AND THE ECONOMY!

Ryan   June 30th, 2008 11:07 am ET

If there is a terrorist attack it will only show how badly this past administration has been on national security.. and the fact that a McCain ally would say this only gives me even more reason to vote against someone who is only planning to continue what Bush has been doing for the last 7 years.

Steven Tank   June 30th, 2008 11:06 am ET

All together Republicans shout together……"BOO! The bogey man is coming!"

THAT will get our votes. Sad, sad, sad…

Lieberman has become nothing more than a pathetic characaturer and the definition of a true LOSER.

Mike B from Bellville, IL   June 30th, 2008 11:06 am ET

PS……………

If Mr. Lieberman had worked as hard in the Senate as he did learning to kiss fannies, he would have been President now.

Jon   June 30th, 2008 11:06 am ET

Way to strike fear into people so that they can vote for McCain out of fear.

Rose   June 30th, 2008 11:06 am ET

How convenient for McIdiot since he's down in the polls! More GOP sick propaganda.

Stephen   June 30th, 2008 11:06 am ET

It's bush all over again. Fear everything.

TEXAS FOR OBAMA   June 30th, 2008 11:06 am ET

Here we go the two little men, McShame-McCain and McSlim-Liberman predicting a terriorist attack. Here we go with the FEAR. McShame is not qualified to lead this country. He can't: Keep us safe, Create Jobs, Build the Economy, Lower Gas Prices or bring our wonderful Military Home. He can bearly walk, doesn't know anything about the economy and has to take ever weekend off. Without Liberman – McCain can't even give a speech. His Town Hall meetings are like a funeral. PLEASE!!

Barack Obama is the one that can help with all of the issues. He is qualified to be President. He will be one of our greatest Presidents' ever.

katiec   June 30th, 2008 11:06 am ET

When all of this is settled think Liberman would even have a
hard time getting voted in for dog catcher.
How pathetic.

kofi   June 30th, 2008 11:06 am ET

*sigh* Lieberman has been sounding the "war war war horn" with the republicans for a long time. He really should just officially label himself a republican because its quite obvious — and the tried and tested bludgeon of "terrorist fear" is getting really old now.

Alex   June 30th, 2008 11:06 am ET

disgusting… i won't fall for this.. again..

Dave, IN   June 30th, 2008 11:06 am ET

Even if I don't agree with everything Lieberman stands for and says, I've got to give him credit for sticking to his principles and not just mouthing the party line like the lemmings who call themselves politicians.

And, he doesn't have to make a "major speech" to make his point.

Mattk   June 30th, 2008 11:06 am ET

Pathetic…is the only word to describe Liebermans comment.

Bradley   June 30th, 2008 11:05 am ET

Of course he would say this. Now McCan can say "see I told you so". If there is going to be a terrorist attack, all the more reason to vote OBAMA in '08, someone who will know how to handle the problem.

Tony C.   June 30th, 2008 11:05 am ET

Is Lieberman so hungry to get his name in the news that he would make such a stupid statement based on his personal opinion? Apparently so.

Why doesn't he just come out and declare himself the republican he is? Does he really think McCain would consider him as a potential V.P.?

Lieberman is as dirty as any other republican and his PREDICTION of another attack is laughable. I would think by making such a statement that it would hurt McCain, which is fine by me, since he is basically saying that Bush and his clown cabinet have NOT made us any safer.

Joe Lieberman – Republican!

Lieberman is a FEAR MONGER!!   June 30th, 2008 11:05 am ET

Republicans are a disgrace! Republicans are completely and absolutely NOTHING without promoting fear.

That fear has caused the death of over 4,000 troops.

Disgraceful!

Vote DEM!

k in Indiana   June 30th, 2008 11:05 am ET

Again with the scare tactics. Americans are wise enough to see through this manipulation of fear.

Pearl   June 30th, 2008 11:04 am ET

Let the fear-mongering by the GOP begin in earnest. What is really laughable is the idea that McCain would be more capable than Obama in a calamity. McCain has a hard enough time reading a script and answering softball questions, yet some would trust him to think clearly on his feet in a crisis. I don't think so. Give me President Obama, please.

John, Catholic   June 30th, 2008 11:04 am ET

“No man can serve two masters. (Matthew 6:24)”

So who does Liberman serve? The US or Isreal? Why does no one question his patriotism? Very Interesting.

wow...   June 30th, 2008 11:04 am ET

..so the republicans continue to play the "FEAR GAME".

sounds like a broken record to me.

GOP fear mongering at its best….wouldn't expect it from an "independent democrat" shame on you lieberman…they are using you as a pawn.

Eric   June 30th, 2008 11:03 am ET

Lieberman is a disgrace to this country.

Arin, Florida   June 30th, 2008 11:03 am ET

Add another reason not to vote for the GOP (and its new lackey, Leiberman) this November: politics of fear. Sorry, but any party that has to try to scare me into voting for it, well, let's just say isn't that what is happening in Zimbabwe?

The worst thing is that at this point I can honestly say I would not be surprised if the GOP manufactured some terrorist event prior to the general election. This is true fear of politics. Who could possibly still want these people running our country?

peggy   June 30th, 2008 11:03 am ET

SCARING US WILL NOT WORK THIS TIME!!!

Steve   June 30th, 2008 11:03 am ET

Lieberman has his own agenda and is dependent on McSane winning the White House. McSane is too old and out of touch. And if Lieberman is not close to him whispering in his ears he would be lost an everything. The straight talk express made it perfectly clear to everyone a few month ago when he said if home owners facing difficult times because of the sub prime mess needs help there on their own. He's too rich and out of touch with average Americans and the reason why he keeps saying "my friends". He's boring and does noting to inspire the people of the country toward a better, brighter future.

Jeb   June 30th, 2008 11:03 am ET

Boo, vote republican – that's the message.

Joe   June 30th, 2008 11:03 am ET

This is interesting. Are they in the process of setting up an attack on America? Make you wonder.

Andre of Marland   June 30th, 2008 11:03 am ET

Is this the only winning line that the Republicans have????

I am tired of having a less educated, beer drinking tough guy as President. It has gotten us a horrible economy, a terrible view of our country around the world, and gas prices going thru the roof. Enough!!!

Keeping my family safe means making sure groceries and gas are priced reasonably, making sure I have a job, and most importantly making sure that I can apply for and obtain a loan when needed. The republicans have been selfish and it is time to throw all of the out!!!

Paul   June 30th, 2008 11:03 am ET

Just what the Republicans ALWAYS use to suck people into voting for them FEAR.
Use your brains america and don't get sucked in, again.

Welcome to Republican way Joe.

Glad to be an Independent   June 30th, 2008 11:02 am ET

Here we go again! Liebermann is going the politics of fear crowd. Sure the U.S. needs to be watchful of future attacks, but to say an attack is likely is fear-mongering for votes. Since 9/11 Bush and many others have played on the fears of Americans. They have tried to justify their actions by calling everything a WAR ON TERROR. Anybody that suggests that the U.S. should follow a different approach to fighting terrorism they call WEAK and UNPATRIOTIC. It is time for FAILED STRATEGIES to come to an END. Liebermann, Bush and the other FEAR-MONGERS are no better than the COMMUNIST fear-mongers in the 1950's and 1960's. IT IS TIME FOR A CHANGE!!!!!!!!!!

Vince in NC   June 30th, 2008 11:02 am ET

Lieberman has certainly gone over to the dark side, the way he follows McCain around and whispers in his ear is kind of scary!

Jo Ann   June 30th, 2008 11:02 am ET

The republicans are desperate. Now McBush is setting the stage to start a war with Iran, and stage or allow terrorist attacks. They will do anything at the American troops, people, and economys expense.

Don't fall for this! Oust the republicans!

Obama '08

SDunn   June 30th, 2008 11:01 am ET

Let the fear mongering continue! Lieberman you are a disgrace to this country. The fear card is the only weapon they think they have right now, sad but true. It's like they want a terrorist attack to happen or something; it's so sick.

Dustin   June 30th, 2008 11:00 am ET

Amazing. To think that this scum used to have democratic values and ideals. Now he is just as bad as the republicans. Try and scare the nation into voting for you. Simply disgusting.

Tony C.   June 30th, 2008 11:00 am ET

Joe Lieberman is NOT an Independent Democrat. He is a republican thru and thru.

He is using the same old FEAR FACTOR that all republicans use when they are LOSING!

Another terrorist attack in 2009 is his opinion and since McCain cannot come out and spread the fear factor himself, Lieberman is his lapdog doing the dirty work for him.

THE REPUBLICANS WILL SAY AND DO ANYTHING TO STAY IN POWER, BUT HOPEFULLY THE AMERICAN PEOPLE HAVE SEEN THRU THEIR B.S. OVER THE LAST 8 YEARS. IF NOT, WE DESERVE WHAT WE GET.

Phil Newton Oregon   June 30th, 2008 11:00 am ET

What do Lieberman and McCain have in common?

They are both neo-cons.

What are neo-cons?

The people, like Bush and Cheney, who want a wider war in the Middle East.

Why is a terrorist attack likely?

Because our terrorist enemies want the same thing. Because they know that by drawing us in they can kill us off and destroy us economically.

Terorists love Republican, neo-con presidents.

Over 4000 US lives lost and a TRILLION dollars later, we can see why.

Jo Ann   June 30th, 2008 11:00 am ET

Heaven help us when the RNC would do or say anything to get McCain elected. They're almost begging to terrorist to attack the USA as they see this is the best way to get McCain elected. Every time the Republicans have poor poll results they start threatening us with renewed terrorist attacks. They are aparently the prime beneficiarys of such contrived hooplah. Their exploitation of the terrorist threat makes me sick and i can't wait to replace as many of them as possible come this next election. Let's go to the polls and change this.

Can I get my comments posted this time?   June 30th, 2008 11:00 am ET

Let me guess? Bush and Cheney will bomb something and then claim Al Queda did it.

If there is another terrorist attack, it won't be from foreign nationals.

Shawna   June 30th, 2008 11:00 am ET

Looks like the republican supporters are still using the politics of fear…Why don't they have any new strategies. Why "if experience matters" was their golden boy unable to use conservative principles to keep the country safe, protect american jobs and maintain the surplus they were given when Clinton left office.

What if?   June 30th, 2008 11:00 am ET

Who, What and who cares?, McCain and Lieberman, you both are really looking very desperate. What will you claim next? Same game, same scare and same players, just McCain is acting as the leader…..SHAME ON THE BOTH OF YOU!

He needs to retire and live off his rich wife's empire.

I am growing more & more disgusted with the media's coverage of the 2 candidates. Why is it that no one questions John McCain 100 year war campaign? It's awfully sad that a former general(Wes Clark) who has no obligation to do any reporting at all had to call McCain on his experience.Especially when we get 2 or 3 days of scrutiny about flagpins & campaign finance.Didn't Scott McClellan call into question the media's oversight to scrutinize Bush's WMD theory & the choice to go to war in Iraq?Instead you guys are trying to beat up the general who has the same if not more experience than John McCain himself.Shouldn't we as americans question John McCain's experience or motive for that matter especially in the face of 100 years as he proposed!

The GOP fear tactics wouldn't work this time

Ron, TX   June 30th, 2008 10:58 am ET

If a terrorist attack is likely, do we want McCain to handle it? Let's remember McCain is the same guy who refuses to admit we wrongly went into Iraq after September 11. Meanwhile, Bin Laden still roams Pakistan freely. Will McCain make the correct choice this time? Or will he attack the wrong country again?

Or, do we want Barack Obama, who recognized that we should have never went into Iraq, and knew that we should be focusing our forces in Afghanistan and Pakistan, where the man that -actually attacked us- was hiding?

Tafari   June 30th, 2008 10:58 am ET

If Joe L can predict a terrorist attack, so can I. In fact any one could.

Farrell, Houston, Tx   June 30th, 2008 10:58 am ET

What a bunch of BS. 9 -11 attack killed 3,000 innocent people and we went to war in Iraq which has killed approximately 4,200 U.S. soldiers and wounded thousands. 3,000 + 4,200 = 7,200 American people. Bin Laden hasn't been captured and now we are planning to attack Iran. For Lieberman to make such a statement that the U.S. is likely to be attacked by terrorist in 2009 then America still has had a failed security policy since 9/11 and he as well as Bush and McCain are part of that failure. These old men are just plain crazy.

I just love it when the psychics come out of the woodwork and start making predictions.

Thanks for playing, though, Sen. Lieberman…..

Kia   June 30th, 2008 10:56 am ET

How is it possible that people repeatedly allow these individuals to say and get away with such stupid crap?

J. Richter   June 30th, 2008 10:56 am ET

Shameful speculations on the potential killing of Americans. This kind of talk should be reserved for security meetings and intelligence briefings by those whose actual job it is to risk speculate. Otherwise it is just morbid and Americans should make it clear:

We do not appreciate speculations on our potentially being killed.

Benny Blanco   June 30th, 2008 10:56 am ET

McCain and his little yapping puppy Lieberman would LOVE that, wouldn't they?

It would give them an excuse to ignore every other issue the US faces, and to attack ANOTHER country that had nothing to do with it

Why are they so eager to bomb something?

And Lieberman's whole line of reasoning is faulty anyway- Two incidents do NOT constitute a historical trend.

Whatever. If the current administration (the policies of which would be continued by McCain if he were to somehow win this fall) is good good at protecting America – if the Republicans are so much better – that this attack will not take place.

What does that say about your ability to defend? They want it both ways – to defend the Republicans in case it happens by bringing it up now, and to blame the Democrats if it happens when Obama is President.

"It's going to happen…but not on our watch."

Attacks are going to happen no matter what. But America is less safe now than it was before we invaded iraq. If we had kept our eye on the prize (bin laden) and never engaged in an illegal war in Iraq, we'd be safer right now.

There goes another FEAR-MONGER…..

These neocons are putting FEAR in voters….
……..so that when voters think of the possibility of a terrorist attack, then they will vote for the war-hero McCain.

Sorry Lieberman, Obama will win, and when you ask why your fear-mongering tactics failed, we'll tell you….. it's the economy, stupid.

squirrelfood   June 30th, 2008 10:54 am ET

Who can trust what comes out of those two turkey necks?

Patrick - Oklahoma City   June 30th, 2008 10:54 am ET

I don't see how this comment is any better than Bill Delahunt's comments about Cheney's CoS. If Barack said this he'd be INSTANTLY criticized for encouraging attacks on America, where if a McCain supporter says this the "talk machine" just nods. Also, if Lieberman knows has this magical knowledge he should share it with the rest of us.

Kevin   June 30th, 2008 10:54 am ET

Hey John, where's your flag lapel pin?

Some patriot he is…

Corey, Maryland   June 30th, 2008 10:54 am ET

Hooray fear!!! just scare the american people again and again in order to get McSame elected.

A Nightingale Sings in Berkley Square   June 30th, 2008 10:53 am ET

Joe is right on when he says, "[McCain] knows the world." "He's been tested. He's ready to protect the security of the American people."

Yes, Joe we want someone in the Office who understands our values and brings experience to the table. Now is not the time to bring in someone for training on the job.

The terrorists are real and we have to remain alert. I prefer McCain's tested courage over a guy who wears gauntlet gloves to shovel a couple of sand bags.

McCain proudly supports America first and doesn't have to give patriotism speeches on why he thinks his patriotism is the new patriotism. Obama likes cotton candy speeches filled with fluff and nothing of substance.

Donna   June 30th, 2008 10:53 am ET

McCain would handle an attack just like Bush did…POORLY…it amazes me that people continue to think that Obama isn't smart enough to surround himself with the proper people before making any decisions on response…

And the PRESIDENT can NOT unilaterally make decisions (with the exception of COWPOKE BUSH)..that is a huge violation of the office..that is what CONGRESS, the NSA, CIA, etc. are for..to help make INFORMED decisions…

The major difference is that Obama would LISTEN before he acted and not play COWBOY like Bush did and probably McCain will do and get us into a MESS that was not planned properly with no EXIT strategy…

You can say what you want about Obama but thinking he is DUMB shouldn't be on anyone's list….

Chantelle   June 30th, 2008 10:53 am ET

Liberman, is used to picking the losing canidates. This just goes to show that.

Yasriel   June 30th, 2008 10:53 am ET

Quick, everybody, all Americans run for cover!!! Terrorists are coming to town. Let's hide under our basements and in our garages….hehehe

Meanwhile in other parts of the world..everybody come out and have fun, come on let's enjoy life as much as possible.

Politics of FEAR as usual….Americans must be dumb to buy this from LIEbermonster…Make up your mind people, let not McShameless trick you on fear.

Raymond Duke   June 30th, 2008 10:52 am ET

I don't know if one will happen in 2009 but the terriost will attack us again. What are the chances depends on who wins the presidency. If it is McCain they will think twice before attacking because they know that a swift and deadly response will occur. They know where he stands. If Obama is elected along with a majority of democrats the chance is very likely. They know that the democrats will conduct a minimal attack at the most and then will go straight to negotaitions to buy them off as the democrats have always done. They know the democrats are weak people and leaders overall except for the conservative democrat blue dogs from the south. With Obama in office they know they got a fellow radical in the white house who does not love america also.

Obama for President   June 30th, 2008 10:52 am ET

Start the RUMOR MILL already. Starting the FEAR MONGERING

JB from NH   June 30th, 2008 10:52 am ET

Exactly how has McCain been tested?

General Clark is right, being shot down and becoming a POW does not make you qualified to be President.

Candy - West Virginia   June 30th, 2008 10:52 am ET

If there was an attack i would feel much safer with Obama's sound judgement than mccain's instability. For some reason I don't feel comfortable with McCain. I think he is too trigger happy and too unstable. And I don't know how Lieberman says he been tried and tested, mccain's never been president before so how do we know?

boered1   June 30th, 2008 10:51 am ET

Yeah is McCain is president when this attack occurs I suspect he will invade..lets see.. Iran or jordan? I can PROMISE he will not attack the country where the terrorist are from, Saudi Arabia, after all bush.. err McCain "knows the world," Lieberman said. "He's been tested." He can sing bomb bomb bomb Iran and all the mccainites and neocons and the hillary (destroy Iran) supporters will all be happy then!

Dan, TX   June 30th, 2008 10:50 am ET

Don't worry, Obama will take care of it. I trust him far more than McCain on National security issues.

Vote Nader   June 30th, 2008 10:49 am ET

Don't blame Ralph Nader for VP Gore's loss in 2000. It's this nutjob who did him in.

John Taylor   June 30th, 2008 10:49 am ET

We will without a doubt face a terror attack early in the term of the next president. Add to Leiberman's list the London bombings at the beginning of Gordon Brown's new adminstration. The fact that we will face such an attack is all the more reason why we don't need people like Bush-Cheney-McCain-Leibermann anywhere near the Oval Office.

People who use war and terror and the loss of American lives to stoke political advantage and hold on to power are the worst kind of enemy to the American people.

The enemy within….

GA Republican   June 30th, 2008 10:49 am ET

Couldn't say it better myself. I wonder what RobertA, my buddy has to say about it?

Tired of W, OH   June 30th, 2008 10:49 am ET

"Fear the Muslims….Fear the Muslims….Fear the Muslims…."

Noun, verb, 9/11. Always the same old crap from the repubs. If you believe this b.s. then the terrorists have already won.

Jim   June 30th, 2008 10:49 am ET

UN..BE…FREAKIN..LEAVABLE…THIS POS DISGUSTS ME, AND I'M FROM CT….WOW…FEAR MONGERING, AGAIN, BY THIS LOW LIFE…I'M AT A LOSS…I WANNA BREAK SOMETHING….

Skewba   June 30th, 2008 10:48 am ET

Figures they'd start to pull the 'fear' card.

L   June 30th, 2008 10:48 am ET

When you live in England you know these statements are so true. Its only over here that you get people getting their knickers in a knot about comments like this.

Extremist are not going to go away just becuse you think the world will love Obama. If they know someone is going in who isnt that strong on foreign policy and is very liberal then i truly beleive they will try something out. They have unfoiled so many attacks in the UK that were in advanced stages (inlcuidng more plane bombings) and you have to wonder why arent these happening in America. Because we are probably one step ahead of them – at the moment….

Interesting   June 30th, 2008 10:48 am ET

Ahhh…I'm so scared now, I'm going to vote republican!

Lieberman is trying to get revenge on the dems for kicking him to the curb. He knows McCain will overturn Roe v Wade for the next 20 yrs with his SCOTUS appointments, but wants revenge more.

Obama Supporter from FL   June 30th, 2008 10:47 am ET

Can we say, "fear-mongering?"

Heather   June 30th, 2008 10:47 am ET

Lieberman — SHUT. UP.

And get out of my party.

Enlightened Voter   June 30th, 2008 10:47 am ET

Way to go there Liberman, same old republican fear tactics again. But here is the funny thing, I feel better having Obama at the helm than mcwar, he is too unstable for me and too stuck in that old cold war mentality, I don't trust mccain nor do I feel he is dependable.

100% Democrat   June 30th, 2008 10:45 am ET

Um, is this some kind of ploy? Nice try.

Paul   June 30th, 2008 10:45 am ET

There is scum, then there are neo-cons, then there is Liberman.
