Former Col. Bud Day appeared in a 2004 Swift Boat Vets spot.

(CNN) - One of the members of John McCain’s new Truth Squad - which his campaign says was launched to respond to unfair attacks on his record of military service –- was a member of the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, and appeared in an attack ad for the group in 2004.

The group was created to attack 2004 Democratic nominee John Kerry’s military service record.

"How can you expect our sons and daughters to follow you when you condemned their fathers and grandfathers?" asked former Air Force Col. Bud Day, who was a prisoner of war with McCain in Vietnam, in a 2004 Swift Boat Vets spot.

McCain has said that he opposed the group’s efforts.

On a campaign conference call Monday, a Politico reporter asked Day if there was any similarity between former Gen. Wesley Clark’s controversial Sunday comments about McCain’s military service and his own remarks about John Kerry during the last presidential campaign.

Day dismissed any equivalence. "The Swift Boat 'attacks' were simply revelation of the truth. The similarity does not exist here," he said. "…One was about laying out the truth. This one is about attempting to cast a new shadow on John McCain."

Mccain is not qualified to be president, being POW does not qualify you to be a president, it this was the case every body who served in the army will be qualified to be president. Mccain is a warmonger, Unqualified, no smart and third term of Bush.

To be Sure, Sen. McCAIN is a true hero. he does not need those Swift Boaters to boost his record. We are glad he refuses their support.

Wesley clark was only responding to a statement that the host made
that Sen.Obama had never ridden in a fighter plane or was never
shot down.Let us get over all this petty stuff and stop all these news
pundits from making the news instead reporting. They all know how
to bring something out from an interview.

Propoganda. That's all this is. That's the kind of tool the communists and the nazis used. The Republican party has become eerily similar, thanks to George W. Bush.

While the hypocrisy in politics does not surprise me in one bit, the fact that John McCain would feel the need to launch a truth squad with an individual who was a leading figure in attacking John Kerry's military service, is another example of how out of touch and plain senile McCain is. His ambition to become president has seen him flip and flop from one area to another, constantly trying to explain and expound and clarify himself. Not that Obama is a saint of any means, but for McCain and his supporters to decry anyone from the other side for using tactics they find deplorable, only to resort to the same methods themselves, wow, I find it hard to believe that there are still idiots who fall for it. Anyone who thinks McCain will bring change of any sort, is a stupid, naive fool. He will only continue the policies of Bush and the past 8yrs, slightly tweaking them to seem to appear fresh. The man is NOT the same individual I respected and admired for so many years; McCain has become nothing more than a political hack who sold his soul and maverick stride, after getting screwed by Bush in 2000. I suppose his political ambition is more important then actually being an independent thinker.

I found the swiftboating of Kerry awful, but in this instance where a General made such an idiotic comment about McCain's service is defendable and should be aired.

These two-faced hypocritical consertive fools make me sick.

It's okay to question Kerry's military record but when someone questions McCain's military record its somehow "off linmits."

    McCain's a hypocrit.

And, the follow up question, making reference to the fact that Day's attacks on Kerry have been shown untrue, received the following response...

Oh, I forgot, this is our media we are talking about here. Short memories and personal agendas. No follow up questions. No taking personal responsibility for the failure to ask follow up questions. No learning from the past (i.e. failure to ask follow up questions about Swift Boaters, the Iraqui War, etc. etc. etc. ) Unbelievable,

The General was right. Simply serving in the military does not qualify you to be president. It may help you get some votes, especially against some one like Obama. However, how many presidents in recent history had legitimate military service. Bush Sr. was in the Navy. That's about it. Everybody else with military experience lost. And Kerry served in Vietnam and had 6 or however many purple hearts. Thats a fact, and cannot be denigrated. The swift boat attacks were a horrible thing and I'm still pissed about them.

Gen. Clark has made a point that we should have all thought about in the 2000 and 2004 residential elections – i.e. flying a jet fighter doesn't automatically qualify one as presidential material.
We (the electorate) thought it did and what did we get? Dubya that's what!
We have to give a "True" nod to Gen. Clark on this one not attack him as a political hack for Obama. Thanks for the clear-headed thinking General, it helps cut through the white noise...

Yet another example of McCain hypocrisy. What Bud Day did was simply be a talking head, the real scum were those who wrote the scripts trashing what was really heroic actions by Mr (windbag) Kerry.

That Mr Day ended up on a McCain advert makes me think some of the same scum have been hired by the McCain campaign.

The Obama collective has adapted though, and I don't think the same tactics will work this time. E.G., they sent out Mr Clark to do a pre-emptive whack that only he could do, being a retired multi-starred general and all.

This just the warm up though, stay tuned for the full-fledged game.
