McCain Truth Squad defender was Swift Boat Vet member

Former Col. Bud Day appeared in a 2004 Swift Boat Vets spot.

(CNN) - One of the members of John McCain’s new Truth Squad - which his campaign says was launched to respond to unfair attacks on his record of military service –- was a member of the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, and appeared in an attack ad for the group in 2004.

The group was created to attack 2004 Democratic nominee John Kerry’s military service record.

"How can you expect our sons and daughters to follow you when you condemned their fathers and grandfathers?" asked former Air Force Col. Bud Day, who was a prisoner of war with McCain in Vietnam, in a 2004 Swift Boat Vets spot.

McCain has said that he opposed the group’s efforts.

On a campaign conference call Monday, a Politico reporter asked Day if there was any similarity between former Gen. Wesley Clark’s controversial Sunday comments about McCain’s military service and his own remarks about John Kerry during the last presidential campaign.

Day dismissed any equivalence. "The Swift Boat 'attacks' were simply revelation of the truth. The similarity does not exist here," he said. "…One was about laying out the truth. This one is about attempting to cast a new shadow on John McCain."

I think that the GOP attack groups could make Jesus seem like a terrorist.

Maybe there should be a group to examine whether Days' really earned the award.

I think President Obama should create a Inquisition Department staffed by Bushies to hunt down closet terrorists. That should keep them busy and out of the way of real progress.

John McCain symbolizes everything that is wrong with politics today. He says one thing and does another. He has no credibility as far as I'm concerned and this is one miltary veteran who has absolutely no respect for the man. He will not get my vote.

McCain saved Bud Day's arm while in captivity. McCain was badly injured himself from having his arms tied behind his back and broken. McCain played physical therapist to Budy Day and saved his arm while they were both POW'S. This is why Bud Day was defending the charges brought against McCain by Clark. McCain spoke out forcefully against the attacks on Kerry.

I don't know how you bring on a member of the "Swift Boat Squad", let along one that defends the actions they took, and then say the McCain Campaign is different from Bush.

That is horrible.. I used to have a lot of respect for McCain, but I have reached the point where I can say I have no respect for him whatsoever. He is no longer the "maverick" he once was. He has turned into just another Republican who will say and do anything to get elected. Swift Boat was one of the worst political strategies in US history and I would think McCain of all people would not select a member of such a dishonest group that used Kerry's military heroics against him to be part of McCain's "Truth Squad"... aka "Swift Boat Part II"

Note that blue ribbon hanging from Col Day's neck. Do you Obamanuts even know what that is? I'm sure none of you have one and never will.

Hey Gonzo, note the note hanging just below that ribbon hanging from Col Days' neck. Do you McIdiots know what it says? Hmmm.... I wonder if it has anything to do with the ribbon?

McCain will do what ever it takes to get what he wants. Even if it means leaving his crippled wife for a cute beer heiress to fund his political ego..... He says he stands with vets, but they know the truth, and now he stands with those who lied and lied all in the name of politics. Shame on you John McCain.

    Phil (of it), FL,

I believe McCain did go down that road (literally) in Vietnam.

Now, how about you tell us about your service to your country (besides your service to the economy by spending your government checks, that is).

John, you were an honorable man with more than honorable service to our great country. But, since the democrats have a nominee it seems you have been talking out both sides of your mouth! I admire and adore Carli Fiorina and her acomplishments but she too seems to have turned into a zombie minded partisan attack dog, thanks to you and the straight talk express which has become a contradiction in terms. I appreciate your service to our country but, I will not be able to vote for the republicans this year after your slandering of the other candidate all the while claiming to be a straight shooter. I'll bet you couldn't shoot straight now if youTRULY tried. You have become W's mini-me. You had me in the beginning. So Long!

I really don't have a issue with what Clark said cause its true...McCain walks around like his POW status is his trump card...like that gives him the ultimate say over foreign policy and a direct ticket to the white house. Sorry but Clark was dead. being a POW does not make you ready to be President. Yes I respect what he gave up in defense of this country . But if your going to run around wearing that POW status on your shoulders then it should be fair game to talk about it.

Just mre MSM baised reporting. I am sure I will go home this evening and hear MSNBC talk ad nauseum about Gen Clark and how what he said was so bad and how it will effect Obama. Meanwhile there will be no mention of this clown who went from Swift Baoter to Truth Squad on McCain's campaign! It makes you wonder who is decidingon the topics of conversation. . is it the corporate heads of the Media? Even when talking about how and what McCain's path to the white house should be, it becomes all about Obama and tearing him down!

Wow, now thats just bad bad politics.
I'm an Obama supporter, but would have been ok with McCain. Would have rather had him in office than Bush for sure.
But after this? It's just another in a long line of very bad choices by McCain. He's lost a lot of respect with this one.

Seems to me that McCain knows he can't win the presidency on merit alone so he has to form a "truth squad" in a sad attempt to make it look like he is being attacked by the Obama campaign. Just keep crying wolf, McShame, the American people can see though the Rove playbook this time around and they aren't going to fall for it again.

    Go Obama!!!

HERE IT COMES! Lies? LIES?! HOW DO THESE 'SWIFT-BOATERS' EXPLAIN THE LIES BUSH TOLD THE COUNTRY ABOUT THE REASONS FOR WAR WITH IRAQ? THAT'S WHAT WE OBAMA SUPPORTERS NEED TO CONTINUE TO ASK........ THROW THE BUSH LIES IN THEIR FACES!

I am disgusted that these"swift boaters" did SO much damage to ANOTHER PATRIOT, JOHN KERRY! HOW CAN ANY ONE EVEN LISTEN TO THESE HATE-MONGERS?

  25. For Obama Since '04

Let me get this straight since this is the "Straight Talk Express" we're talking about here... The "Truth Squad" (scary name isn't it?) picks up a dude from the Swift Boat attack ads that McCain said he did not support? Isn't that what the article said... Wow, straight talk indeed dear sir. BTW the "Truth Squad" is laughable at best. Go back to 1940 and read more comic books McSame(Bush)(War)(Warmonger)(etc...) to come up with more catchy names... Go to YouTube and watch "The Real John McCain" and "John McCain vs. John McCain" to see more of his "double talk" that has been his entire political career. This is DEFINITELY the man that we need to get us out of Bush's mess...
