From
 Michelle Obama.
Michelle Obama.

(CNN) – Her husband may be running for the most powerful job in the world, but Michelle Obama says the couple’s lives are as boring as anyone else's.

"Barack and I don't have interesting lives, never did," the potential first lady told USA Today in comments published Monday. "We're basically family people. When we go on a date, it's either dinner or a movie because we can't stay awake for both."

The comments come as the Obama campaign has sought to soften Mrs. Obama's image among many voters who are less familiar with the Illinois senator’s outspoken wife. The campaign has retooled her stump speech to include more details about her family and humble upbringing on Chicago's South Side.

Watch: Michelle Obama's new image

She also made a recent high-profile appearance on the daytime talk show "The View," and graced last week's cover of U.S. Weekly under the banner headline, "Why Barack loves her."

Why is this even an article. I suppose someone, somewhere would care. This is just more political maneuvering from the Obama's. They are suppose to be about change and not the same old Washington politics but ever time I turn around I see business as usual. To me they are both transparent. I really wish we could get the press to focus on the candidates and the issues.

I am sure so many of us hard-working Americans can relate to Cindy McCain and her fortune.

Put someone in the White House that can relate to the little people.

We need a real family in there.

Harry C   June 30th, 2008 2:15 pm ET

I find it so SAD that some people are so PREJUDICED that they will do and say anything but the truth about why they are against Obama!! Obama is the most QUALIFIED Candidate for President that this Nation has had in many many years..

Nicole, Atlanta   June 30th, 2008 2:15 pm ET

I admire the Obama's soooo much. They are not boring people to me. When I first heard Michelle Obama speak I saw and felt her honesty her strength and her humblemess. These characterstics are only a few of why Barack loves her so much and we as Americans will love her too! This first family really makes me proud to be a young black african american!

Go Obama08!!!!!

Michelle   June 30th, 2008 2:14 pm ET

To all the Hillary or McCain people:

If you are truly going to vote for McCain then I don't think you really ever believed in Hillary Clinton and her stance on issues. It is so clear that Obama and Clinton are virtually the same on all important issues. McCain on the other hand is SOOOOO THE OPPOSITE of Clinton.

I just don't understand how any true Hillary Clinton supporter can now go against EVERYTHING Clinton stood for and vote for McCain.

I just don't get it!!!!

RuthieM   June 30th, 2008 2:13 pm ET

That's funny, they have to do either dinner or a move because they can't stay awake for both. That's funny. They sound like two old people and they haven't even reached 50 yet. Cute.

To the many of you making derogatory remarks about Cindy McCain, you need to read up on all the great things she has done for underprivileged and disfigured children around the world. It is not her fault she was born into money. She is not sitting idly by ... she just doesn't spout off like big mouth Michelle.

Yes, the Obama's are boring. They have manipulated everyone and everything throughout their whole lives to gain the ultimate prize. They want to reign in the White House. Their only problem is the lack moral center.

Obfuscation, pandering, egomania and lust for power are boring to watch! :(

America doesn't need or want a King or a Messiah figurehead or an American Idol.

America needs servant leadership from a caring, wise president in touch with mainstream America! McCain 08! :)

Michelle is as fair game as Cindy McCain and Bill Clinton. This is no delicate flower. Professional packagers are hard at work filing down the rough edges, but this is a major challenge.

Why, of course ordinary American families are made up of two highly paid lawyers who make deals with the likes of Rezko to get a good deal on a house. If you believe that, I've got this bridge you might want...

We see who these guys are, not in their prepared, laundered speeches, but in their offhand remarks. Remarks like, "I'm finally proud of my country" and "Okay, Sweetie." You get the picture. Taking their young daughters to listen to Wright for most of their childhood until they got caught. Yup, we're just a church goin' family, yup.

So many moms are on the View and have Oprah to talk to on tv. Yup, they do. Don't we all hang around with left over terrorists from the '60s who are glad McVeigh blew up the federal building in OK City? Why, sure we do, we're all just plain vanilla Americans here.

Oh, please!

The Obamas Rocks   June 30th, 2008 2:07 pm ET

So, now an intelligent, striking-looking, strong BLACK woman is arrogant, hateful and spiteful? Why is it that black people with a little bit of education and pride are always called ARROGANT? Why is it that a black person who criticizes the treatment of blacks in this country is always called HATEFUL or un-patriotic? How is it that a 20-second clip of a craxy rant by a pastor translates into 20-years of hateful sermons?

It's called RACISM and the double-standard. Michelle and Barack are two intelligent, successful, highly-educated black people. There are MANY out there who can't stand to see black people do well financially and professionally outside of entertainment and sports. Some people love watching Will Smith, Denzel Washington, Tiger, Michael Jordan, or Venus and Serena dominate their respective professions, but can't fathom that there are black folks out there whose intellectual skiils rival the physical skills of dominant black atheletes.

Get over it! Barack and Michelle will occupy the White House and it will be for the BENEFIT of this country. Anyone who thinks Obama will do a worse job as President than Bush is a fool. Anyone who thinks Michelle is hateful and racist actually need to look in the mirror.

Don't get me wrong, I love the Obamas and Barack has my vote in November. However, it does sicken me to know that everything the politicians say are put together by their publicist and pr people. Michelle and Barack's lives are not like many Americans. They went to top schools, have the best connections, and in the "inside." Although they do want to get away from the "elite" image, they are JUST that...

keepitreal50   June 30th, 2008 2:03 pm ET

Olivia, I wonder what information you have to feel that way about Michelle Obama. Nothing that she said or did warrants a view like yours. Maybe all you got is that she is black and might you be a tad bit racist? You seem like the type of person who needs to feel negative about someone who looks differently and lives a different (ethinic) lifestyle than you and I figured all that out with less than 50 words from you. But that's what you need to feel good about yourself and I bet people often leave you – BY YOURSELF! SAD

Peter E   June 30th, 2008 2:03 pm ET

And yet CNN can't stop talking about those boring lives.
Get a clue CNN!

Abbey   June 30th, 2008 2:02 pm ET

BTW Cindy McCain's hair color is about as natural as Michelle's straight hair although I fail to see how either has anything to do with their husbands running for office. Also Cindy has a Masters in special education and did spend some time as a teacher. She is chairman of the board of her family's company-obviously an inheritance. That is somewhat similar to the way Michelle got into Princeton without the needed scores-as a legacy to her basketball-playing brother.

Michelle's The One   June 30th, 2008 2:02 pm ET

Michelle,

You underestimate yourself. I was stuck in George Bush World, where nothing pained me more than to think about one more boring election, filled with canned speeches and double talk. Barack changed that, as he will change America.

Now I'm overly excited about this campaign and this election. I can't wait to vote for Barack, and I can't wait to call you my first lady.

RJ from NJ   June 30th, 2008 1:59 pm ET

Really, Michelle? Uninteresting?
I for one have found the backgrounds of you and Hussein most interesting. And I cannot wait for it to get even MORE interesting when the video of your "Whitey" speech comes to light, not to mention Hussein's crack use and gay sex shenanigans while he was a state senator. But of course, this is all rumor and hearsay, swirling around for many weeks now. And so verrrry uninteresting. LOL

benvictor   June 30th, 2008 1:58 pm ET

Remember, this is the same one who wasn't proud of America until recently. This after she and her other half got the best education the country has to offer, became millionaires. I cannot imagine someone like this wanting to be in the White House if America did not mean anything to her until now. What changed? It is time for Free Ride and his bride to be vetted fully. There is simply too much unknown about these two.

Erika   June 30th, 2008 1:58 pm ET

So many bitter people on this blog. You should not take your personal failures and insecuties out on others. Moreover, "hate" is a terrible word. You should not use it to describe someone. Anyone with "values" would know better.

Michelle & Barack For America   June 30th, 2008 1:57 pm ET

I disagree Michelle, you are exciting. America will be a better place for having you and Barack serve our country.

Kudos to you two, and I can't wait to vote in November.

IndependentGA   June 30th, 2008 1:57 pm ET

Rosey.... Losers cant lose fair and square. Losers only lose when they've been cheated. That's the definition of loser. You know that one kid, who has a football. His team loses, he takes his ball and goes home. But winners compete... and they accept the results reguardless. I voted for Huckabee. Although he won my state, he lost the primaries. Hat's off to McCain. Now its time for the super bowl.
Obama vs. McCain... Looking at the breakdown, they both have strengths and flaws.
Question is: Do we want the same ole same ole, or do we want a new direction?
Hopefully, whoever gets in, will tackle the serious problems we face as Americans.

This is for the people here with intellect:
It's up to us to decide the direction that we want our country to go.

This is for the children:
Grow up! Life is about competing. You cant win them all and you definetely wont lose them all. The point is that you compete and act like the adults you claim that you are.

Ron Feuer   June 30th, 2008 1:55 pm ET

My "view" of Barry Obama and his wife is one of seeing them as ordinary intellectual people who would have a very hard time representing the rest of the country. Albeit each is very intelligent with great locution and diction in each's speaking ability, can this man really be expected to do the work of being a competent president? Look at the last eight years, when this country was really "BEHIND THE EIGHT BALL" with a putz occupying the Whitehouse...had this country with its short memory been capable with the mistake that it made between 2000 and 2004, iw would not have elected the moron in the Whithouse for a second term. Now we stand to elect another person that at this time I reiterate, is very smart, but can he run the show? I doubt it. After a year of Obama, we are going to see that we repeated the mistakes of 2000 and 2004 for a third time. Everyone knows that after three strikes, you are out. I hope that the country will not be struck out at this time...the bottom of the ninth...Ron Feuer

Oh well, if one candidate is a war-monger and the other is a puppet who can blame their supporters to behave like that.

There is no proof that the Obamas are racist at all. Don't you people get sick and tired of making the same old tired acusations that have no merit. What have they done personally that would make any half way intelligent person conclude that they are indeed racist. Of corse not, just what other people have said and your hatred for Black people. For goodness sake, this man was raised by white people, isn't that enough. Get with the issues, war, economy, a vision of a better america. That's what's important

You're a wonderful role model for your girls and women everywhere. God bless and keep you all safe from harm.

CNN is becoming more and more biased & unreliable source these days especially with respect to Obama Candidacy. But the truth is no matter how hard they invest their money and energy Barack Obama will be the next president of the united State. I am saying this because he manages to handle so many wrong labels with a grace including the way he did it today. Shame on CNN!!!

Please reboot your neurons or just kill yourself before you reproduce you filthy retards.

Ms. Obama is about as "soft" as a cactus...a lady she is not. She is however a woman who is intelligent, out spoken, caring mother and good wife though a great speaker she is not therefore leave that to Mr. Obama. For those who are defending Ms. Obama let me just ask: Do you know her that well?

Michael   June 30th, 2008 1:46 pm ET

We never said she was interesting. We say she's an affirmative action baby who evinces nothing but hostility toward her country and those bitter people who "embrace" guns and religion. And the prospect of a First Lady doing "fist bumps" is appalling.

To: saga for Obama:

How is being black in America an obstacle? Affirmative action, mandated diversity programs and set-asides, glorification of minorities in the media, endless excuses for seemingly incurable social pathologies, and whites continually bowing and scraping to “protected groups.” Not to mention the over $1 trillion spent in the four-decade War on Poverty, paid for overwhelmingly by whites.

And let’s not forget the 300,000 Northern white men whose sacrifice made the abolition of slavery possible. An unredeemable loss.

Cry me a river, “saga.”

I find her arrogant as her husband tryting to teach people.

SHAWN, GA

Obama has spelled out his plan for this country on his website. He has my vote regarding the issues at hand. You have to do your own research regarding the candidates. Noone on CNN or any other media outlet is going to do that for you. Obama supporters, like myself, are intellegent enough to know McCain is not the president we need at all. He is the same as Bush. Yes, I've done that research too.

I'll vote for your husband because this country cannot take another 4 years of a Republican president; but please, just be quiet.

Happy Day in PA   June 30th, 2008 1:38 pm ET

First of all, Enomisa – get your facts straight. Barack gave Hilary $4600 – $2300 from him and $2300 from Michelle. That is the maximum they can give her under federal law.

Like Michelle, I'm an Ivy League educated African American female lawyer, and I totally understand and agree with Michelle's comment about it being the first time she was proud of her country. That doesn't make us racist – it makes us honest. America has done some despicable things in its short history, most of which centered on white males exercising their self-perceived dominance over women and people of color. And those attitudes still exist today – just look at some of the posts on this blog. "Rode affirmative action to a degree from Princeton"?!? People making comments like that, which I'm sure she's heard her entire life, don't exactly make your heart swell up with pride.

And that's not to say that America is not a great country or that we don't love it, it’s just hard to be PROUD of it. Like when your kid gets arrested for DUI or drug possession. Are you proud? Of course not. Do you still love her? Of course. Do you hope and pray she does better? Absolutely. Do you want to be able to be proud of her? YES. That is what it is like to be black in America. Despite the wrongs that you have heard about from ancestors and experienced yourself, you are still full of love for your country and hope for a better tomorrow. And with the candidacy of Barack Obama, that hope shines a little brighter and the feeling that maybe, just maybe, America has turned the corner and is able to see beyond skin color becomes more and more of a reality. And that does make me proud.

Michelle Rocks   June 30th, 2008 1:38 pm ET

Dear Aleida,

I'm sure you do hate Michelle. She's refreshing because she honestly wants to make a difference in people's lives. She's not some vacuous Barbie doll, who's afraid of her husband, and she's not a greedy, power hungry she-male who is selfish, and thinks only of herself. Michelle is real, and just what the people need, after 7 years of lies.

I suggest you take your meds because it's going to be a very long 4 years for you.

Obama 08

disgusted in Fl   June 30th, 2008 1:37 pm ET

Michelle Obama is correct in identifying herself as a bore. She can re-tool her image all she wants. I've read and seen enough of her to peg her for what she really is: a thinly-veiled racist with an agenda. She will undoubtedly cause even more racial diviseveness with her big mouth should her husband get elected.

JWR   June 30th, 2008 1:37 pm ET

I like Mrs. Obama's outspokenness, and am sad to see her being re-packaged.

If you have nothing intelligent to contribute – please do everyone a favor and just go away.

lack of concern for your country disgusts me to no end.
You are degrading yourselves.
For you the quote "It is better to be thought a fool than
speak out and remove all doubts" applies.

Jen P   June 30th, 2008 1:34 pm ET

I am so sick of people quoting the right-wing talking heads and saying that Michele Obama is racist based on a thesis she wrote when she was in her early twenties. If you lazy Limbaugh heads would actually read the thesis, you would see that it was indeed about race but not at all racist. The closest thing to a racist comment was a quote from another Princeton grad explaining his views. It was not her thoughts, but a quote that has pulled out to feed uneducated people this line of crap.

Lazy people that get their "facts" solely based on what a third party tells them is true should step out of the conversation until they dig a little deeper.

after reading some of the comments posted... all i can say is God Bless America... cause we really need it. i'm also hurt by the fact that people are making such personal and hateful comments about a woman that they really don't know. unlike the clintons who have been in the media spot light for years (so we know all about their dirt), no one really knows a lot about the obamas... so it becomes easier to insinuate, guess, speculate, or just plain make things up... i'm saddened by the state of our union... and i think we need a change... God Bless you all...

I guess beauty truly is in the eye of the beholder.

For all of you bittered folks that refuse to vote for Obama.
It's your choice. Vote as you wish. I know I'm not voting for a man that left his ill wife for a babe. That in itself is dispicable. Not to mention the issues. McCain has no character. Any man that would leave his sick wife is not the type of man I want in the White House.

See how stupid that sounds. Neither candidate is perfect. ANd neither are we. We all have flaws. If we spent 24 hrs a day and 7 days a week cleaning the dirt and trash from off of ur front porches, we wouldnt hav time to look at other people's porch.
When are we going to wise up and stop denegrating people with whom we disagree with? It's childish as well as idiotic. It was stupidity like that which allowed terrorist to attack us on 9/11. Bickering and acting stupid, taking our attention away from the real enemies and threats that our country face. What a bunch of losers!

Michelle Wins   June 30th, 2008 1:32 pm ET

Dear Olivia,

Not only can I compare Michelle to Hillary, I can say with certainty that she will be a BETTER first lady. Why–because she is not selfish and self-centered. She doesn't use people and finally, Olivia, she's not a liar.

By the way, have you given towards Hillary's vanity debt, yet?

Beca   June 30th, 2008 1:31 pm ET

That is why the campaign is boring now, where is Hillary????

Ed North Carolina   June 30th, 2008 1:31 pm ET

I somewhat agree wth the response above. There are still many questions related to their church affliliation unanswered for me to be too comfortable with her. It appears she is working hard to give the appearance of being normal, but then again there is nothing normal about the McCains. Wonder what they do with Cindy's millions. I think the options open to the Obamas have more in common with real folks so that can't help but help their image.

Why so much hate!   June 30th, 2008 1:31 pm ET

A) If I don't vote for Obama, I'm racist.
B) If I have issues with his wife – or anything she's said publicly – I'm a "hater".

Please. What a load.

I'd vote for Colin Powell in an instant. Frankly, I'd vote for Condoleezaa Rice. I keep hoping that McCain will name her as his running mate.

Tacking labels – particularly those involving racism or "hate" on anyone who doesn't agree with you – has become SOP for the so-called "democratic" party.

And calling this kind of tabloid-inspired garbage "news" is below the standards CNN should set.

I wonder if her political schooling she just came from told her how to say she is proud of her country with a smile and act like she means it??????

She still has not answered how she can stay in a hate filled church for 20 years and not be affected????? She has alot of questions to be answered. But not as many as Barack.

As Clark put it. He is untested, not experienced in leadership. Some thought he was talking about McCain.... He words spoke right to O'Bama.

The divisive uniter's other half is even more divisive than he is.

Michelle exemplifies the true vitriol that has sickened the entire Obamanation with its nasty, filthy, vulgar, hate for other democrats who do not agree with them.

The hate is what divided the party and Michelle sure spews her fair share of antipathy for fellow Americans.

Michelle is hateful and spiteful.

The GOP is going to go after her, expect it, but, hopefully people won't believe the fake stuff i.e. her saying "whitey"

That was a flat out lie. Don't believe it until you hear it or see it for yourself!!!!

P. Morrison   June 30th, 2008 1:27 pm ET

IMHO Michelle Obama never needed to "change" anything. There is a vast difference in a woman and a "lady". Michelle is a "lady" all the way. She is an excellent role model for the young generation of today.

I believe the 5 yrs. the McCains were separated were when he was in Vietnam-while she was at home waiting for him. Maybe more research needs to be done-but I believe that is the truth. For all you McCain Dems. you need to visit vietnamveteransagainstjohnmccain. If after the story re: Cindy and things on that site you can still support him, something is wrong with your mind.

We are registered Independents who are supporting Sen. Obama. We do not worship him nor do we see him as a savior! Its an insult to be called "sheep."

We have done our homework, we don't vote one way (Republican or Democrat) without looking at ALL the facts. I wont spoon feed those like you who want us to answer "tell us what Mr. Obama plans to do..... " If you want to find out, go to his web site and READ up on all his plans and ideas!

And further more......... for ALL those supporting the Republicans again here are some FACTS that are the REASON WHY WE WONT...

MORE WAR, POSSIBLY WITH IRAN ISN'T $650 BILLION FOR THE WAR WITH IRAQ ENOUGH?

MORE WAR MEANS MORE OF OUR TROOPS DYING, BEING MAIMED OR COMING HOME SO DEPRESSED THAT THEY COMMIT SUICIDE

MORE NATIONAL DEBT, ISN'T $10 TRILLION OWED TO CHINA, DUBAI AND SAUDI ARABIA ENOUGH?

Our nation is in danger of being bankrupted but no one on the Republican side seems to be concerned. The only thing you people want is MORE OF THE SAME.

We are hiring her husband....the first lady is a ceremonial title...(as a first man would be for a female president) – as with Hillary....you would not sit in on cabinet meetings...and would perform the role of first lady....ceremonial status....the only way you would get to be a senator from that...would be to move from your home state to NY – who will elect any Democrats..

These two (and they trash Bill and Hill) will say or do anything to land in the White House – ingraciate, not a problem. Flip-flop to suit the circumstances, not a problem. Resign from church, not a problem. Disown a long time friend and mentor, not a problem. Wear a flag pin, not a problem. Put my hand over my heart during the pledge, not a problem. Love America will all our hearts, not a problem. Go to Iraq (after not being interested for 2 years) not a problem. Take an interest in foreign affairs, not a problem. And yes, Obama is a bore when he isn't scripted or when he's not surrounded by a pep rally and playing the role of cheerleader to himself.

saga for Obama   June 30th, 2008 1:19 pm ET

you know as an African American, i am soooooo tired of some of these people calling her a raciest..
quick question to those presumably white people out there who feel th eneed to use that terminology...
1)how many of your ancestors were stolen from their homeland?
2) how many of them died during the 1000 mile march to the west coast of Africa?
3) how many of them died during the transport?
4) how many of them were enslaved forced to work 18 hours a day with little break?
5) how many of them were lynched beaten and raped?
6) how many of them had to learn to read in secret because it was against the law?
7) how many of them were dehumanized?
8) how many of them had to die for the right to vote?
9) how many of them have been denied a job, loan education food shelter and other human rights?
10) how many of you have to worry when you see a police officer following you for no reason?
11) how many of you know someone who was chained up behind a pick up truck and dragged until your body was torn apart?
12) how many of you are followed when shopping?
and it goes on...contrary to many, most African Americans i know are not voting for Barack because of his race...but because of his character. i like him and his wife because they both over came the obstacles of being black in America.
if they were Jewish you people would probably be calling the anti Semites...

DJ, LA, CA   June 30th, 2008 1:19 pm ET

The GOP realizes (as did the Clintons) that Barack is just too popular and resilient to attack directly. So the GOP attack machine will target Michelle because she seems like an easier target and isn't as popular as Barack.

Steve   June 30th, 2008 1:19 pm ET

I think Michelle is the embodiment of the successful modern woman, well educated, well spoken, family oriented, strong and resilient. She is much much more than the sum of a few words taken out of context that so many bigoted americans want to brand her with.
She is heads above Cindy McCain, a woman of exceptional privilege, far removed for her entire life from the so-called "normal" life most of us experience. She has no "common" credentials with which we can identify with her.
Personally speaking Michelle represents me, a successful, well-educated white woman, far more that Cindy, who I can't even relate to. I've worked hard for my education and my career, as did Michelle, and was not born with a silver spoon in my mouth like Cindy. I'm sure Cindy is a good, decent woman but she has nothing in common with me.

Carol, Lansing MI   June 30th, 2008 1:17 pm ET

Wow, even though the "whitey" comment has been proven to be an outright racist lie, the Republicans keep on insisting on stating that Michelle used it.

The fact is, the some Republicans and McCain through his surrogates have continued to try to use racism by making up false claims of racism by the Obamas. What makes it sickening is that McCain has not denounced these statements publically or asked his followers to stop using them.

Out of desperation, ignorance and racism some Republicans will keep interjecting race into the run up to the GE.

This is beyond scraping the bottom, it's taking a shovel and starting to dig.

She can't hide it like He can   June 30th, 2008 1:17 pm ET

Barack has had years of hiding the nasty evil person within.

Now they try to get Michelle to learn how to hide the ugly.

Can it be done?

I doubt it.

the blue collar vote.

Sorry, Michelle. Regular guys don't help slumlords like your husband did.

Obama IS picking up Hillary supporters. The republicans are using this mask of disgruntled Hillary supporters to play the role of anger towards Obama. There may be some 'hold outs" but I am confident that when it comes to issues her supporters will want to see a democrat in the white house. I think McCain is sad that us dems are going the united route. So he sends out his army of trolls to spread hate on posts like this.

Good lady. A real woman. A real partner. Obama is a lucky man and America is the better for it.

CiCi   June 30th, 2008 1:12 pm ET

This woman's entire goal in life is to live in the Whtie house, she thinks she deserves it and has said as much. Real people are real people and she has shown her real self before she reaized it would hamper her husband's campain. She DESERVES to be in the White House, and FOR THE FIRST TIME she is proud of the US? That conbined with the questionable morals and religious beliefs speaks volumes. Barak Hussain Obama has little experience, lots of red flags going up and still the American people are so desperate to get out of their political mess they think he offers hope. He offers nothing but promotion for himself, his family, and anyone else who is financing this campaign. WE SHALL SEE JUST HOW STUPID VOTERS ARE WITH THIS ELECTION

Politics has never known a meaner, uglier woman.

Her comments about Hillary were insulting and demeaning.

Democratic CANDIDATES and their wives have never before been so spitefully vitriolic and hateful towards other democrats.

Your behavior and comments have been shameful and have harmed the hope of any party unity.

The DNC finishing school handlers have done a good job.

She is so slick you could almost forget all the other stuff she said.

She's so alert and on target. It's hard to believe she sat in Trinity Church listening to the muck raking and acid rhetoric against former President's and the white population in general for over 20 years–and never knew it was going on.

I liked it better when we thought she was just dumb. No I know she's smart–and lying.

I see the "We're just common folk" remake continues in a lame attempt to attract the blue collar voters that Obama didn't even see fit to go and visit during the primaries. Good luck with that – maybe you can fool a few of them but I wouldn't hold your breath – folks can smell a liar before they see him and though they didn't see Obama, they know all they need to.

Are we setting women back in time enlikening Michelle to Jackie Kennedy? Sure we all admired Jackie, but women have come a longer way since then. It's a shame she can't be outspoken. Laura Bush had high approval ratings because she blended in and was not outspoken. But I guess Michelle has to do whatever it takes to help her husband win, right? Monies raised in the primaries by Sen Obama and Sen Clinton was in excess of $500 million, yet Sen Clinton ended up with over $20 million in debt and Sen Obama not further ahead about $30 million on hand; the DNC is short on funds and they redicule Sen McCain of not knowing how the economy works. Well, Sen McCain being of fine Scotish stock knows how to be frugal and is running a good campaign without over-spending, therefore will manage the Nations' money well. On the other hand the Democrats proved once more how to grab and sppend. Sooo the only way to vote in Novemer/08 is McFrugal.

Cindy McCain is okay, but her life was well written from day 1. She was born into wealth and stayed their comfortably during her life. She serves as an example for women all over the world, with her cosmetic surgeries and botox injections. {MAJOR SARCASM!}

Well at least she isn't kissing up to Hillary. I am becoming more and more disgusted everyday with the Obama's. While I am all for unity in the party-it does not mean you have to go back on all your beliefs and principals. The Clinton's are NOT gods, did NOT part the Red Sea and DID NOT sign the Emancipation Proclamation. The Obama's owe them NOTHING. I am so sick of hearing what the Clinton's did for black people. This is NOT entirely true. As a matter of fact G.W. Bush has done far more for us than the Clinton's EVER did. Whatever the Clinton's did they were paid very well in return because most of us were the reason they were elected. Bush, who has placed us in some of the most prestigious positions in the WH administration knew he would not receive enough of the black vote and he still took that chance. While I am not a fan of Bush's at least he didn't expect much in return. So stop with the Clinton's did so much for us. The fact is under Bill's administrtion he let over 1.5mil. Africans be slaughtered (a lot of them were women and innocent children) he didn't deliver any type of humanitarian effort. Why because the Africans could not vote for them and gave no political gain? Obama will be smart if he distances himself from the Clinton's and just continues to run his campaign on his own. instinct and ideas. Yes, I know there are a lot of Clinton supporters who will not vote for him but you would never vote of him anyway so why should he belittle himself to something that never existed anyway. Those true democrats will always be there for the party no matter what the "others" well, let them do whatever they want.

Hope Obama and his supporters are grateful.

pp   June 30th, 2008 12:50 pm ET

Truth hurts, accepting us as we really are hurts, not to us but to others who keep on pretending they are some one else than what they actually are.

who is perfect? who has been perfect till now? we are slaves of our inhibitions our fears and our secrets which we do not want any one to know, as we have to show our best face to others.

old philosophy of life has to go, unless we accept us as we are now, now denying our past, we are good human , because we are coureageous to work for our future from now, from this present to what we want to be , what we will love to do as human.

people who dig graves are grave diggers with no future as they know they have to dig their grave soon goo, no one else will help , except the nature and natural scavangers.

its takes courage to accept the past, keep it off yr back n bury it, as future is more important. then we all live once only right? so lets do whats is right now n for future.

Amen

BB   June 30th, 2008 12:49 pm ET

Who has the better resume? Cindy or Michelle. Let's see... Princeton, Harvard, etc.....

Carlson Kumstainer   June 30th, 2008 12:48 pm ET

You are absolutely right Michelle, you ARE boring. So please disappear from public view.

S.M   June 30th, 2008 12:48 pm ET

People are saying that Michelle Obama needs a makeover, but McCain's wife needs a makeover in the worst way. She is wealthy and still doesn't have any idea how to style her hair for her long face or what to wear. Perhaps she needs to ask Michelle or Secretary Rice who styles their hair and what kind of clothes to wear. Leave Michelle Obama alone.

Cheryl   June 30th, 2008 12:48 pm ET

Hey,

I love the fact that our first lady is beautiful, intelligent and loves her husband.

Obama 08

It doesn't matter if it is a white cat, or a black cat, as long as it catches the mouse.

Dawn & Sharon & the rest
You guys are so stupid –you fall right into the hype-
But guys like General Clark are out there doing your bidding-

Just remember when people go in to vote just like in the primarires-
People say they voted for him but the numbers didn't dhow up then and won't show up in November–
BY the way–
This has nothing to do with race and everything to do about CHARACTER –

Phil, FL   June 30th, 2008 12:47 pm ET

Ula Nejad

What right to you have to comment about anyone's name?

What country does your name represent? Were you born in the U.S.?

Jim Shimmer   June 30th, 2008 12:47 pm ET

She is the greatest! She is soooo downt to earth and she is definitely articulate and presidential material!

jonathan   June 30th, 2008 12:47 pm ET

Image makeover = politics as usual.
I thought these people are about change? They sure aren't about honesty if she has to have an "image make over".
What B.S.
And ya'll are falling for it.

Cathy   June 30th, 2008 12:47 pm ET

I've always like Michelle Obama. Michelle is learning how it is to be in the public eye but she does it with style and grace and without losing her own identity or humor.

Michelle represents what every women should strive for in life.

JL   June 30th, 2008 12:45 pm ET

BREAKING NEWS: the Obamas breathe actual air and ingest actual food with corporeal bodies, just like the rest of us! sigh.......they are just SO wonderful!

Bill, IL   June 30th, 2008 12:45 pm ET

Michelle, If you and your lame "senator" husband cannot stay awake long enough to enjoy dinner AND a movie, I wonder how he'll be able to answer the 3 AM phone call once he's in the White House?

Hillary '12

Hussein   June 30th, 2008 12:45 pm ET

You Go Michelle!!!!! .. People are just intimidated by an articulate & out-spoken Black Woman.

Michelle is not no step-ford wife like the rest of the step-ford first ladies except Hillary

Michelle Plz don't change yourself to plz those haters!

webster208   June 30th, 2008 12:44 pm ET

Who cares what you do when you date? No one is really interested. But when you go out making speeches for or about Barrack, expect that people will analyze your words, and you will be both criticized and admired. If you decide to participate in the campaign, prepare for both. Your husband should stop asking the media or your crtics to stop criticizing you just because you are not the candidate.

Terrence (Winsotn Salem, NC)   June 30th, 2008 12:44 pm ET

ang – GO. Who cares? Good ridance. I'm tired of hearing these crybabies who would have never voted for Obama anyway. I rather speak to intelligent people who'll listen to reason.

Guy Kasweka from Toronto   June 30th, 2008 12:44 pm ET

That's the kind of first lady we need in the white house. God bless!

nola   June 30th, 2008 12:44 pm ET

Michell, is a smart, intellent woman who has over the years been able to prove her ability to achieve greatest even when dealing with great obstacles.

Chris K   June 30th, 2008 12:43 pm ET

I remember a few years ago Barack and Michelle were in my home town (Burlington, Ontario) to visit his sister who lived here at the time.

I didn't actually see him myself, but I know some people who did. He was with Michelle and they took the kids down to play in a park by the lake near where I live. Then they rented a car and drove down to see Niagara falls.

I guess he was pretty shocked to see so many Canadians recognizing him. But it was after the big speech he gave at the convention... and Canadians watch a lot of US TV.

Anyways, the people I know described him as very down to earth and nice. Just a normal guy taking his kids to the park to play. It's refreshing. Somehow I can't see George Bush doing something like that.

Sharon   June 30th, 2008 12:43 pm ET

Michelle,

You are wrong–you are the manifestation of Dr. King's Dream, and you are interesting.

Obmas 08

jr   June 30th, 2008 12:42 pm ET

I'm sure that their free time is just as mundane as the rest us. I'ts what they were doing with the rest of each day that interests me. You just don't get to this point unless you've been a mover and a shaker.

S. Boatman Warrensburg Mo.   June 30th, 2008 12:41 pm ET

You Are Going To Make A Wonderful First Lady!

L   June 30th, 2008 12:41 pm ET

To set the record straight. McCain was SEPERATED from his first wife and was in the final processes of divorce when he met cindy. Dont go on about her stealing him from another women. I'm sorry but a 5 year gap in a relationship is not always going to bring people closer together...
He met Cindy, married and a few years later they had 3 beautiful children together and adopted another one who was at one of Cindy's operation smile hospitals in Bangledesh. what a great family, they have the respect of so many Americans.

Clarke Bettencourt   June 30th, 2008 12:41 pm ET

Hate will not prevail in this election cycle
Michelle will make an outstanding first lady

And for the record, there was nothing wrong with her OLD image; this whole media-pronounced "makeover" is laughable

Dawn, MD   June 30th, 2008 12:41 pm ET

Are you kidding, Michelle? The first African American viable candidate and his family ARE interesting. We can't get enough of you. When you are on the cover, the magazines fly off the rack, this groundbreaking campaign is over the top exciting, and we can't wait to vote for your husband.

Love you Michelle, but you're so wrong–YOU ARE INTERESTING.

Obama 08

Terrence (Winsotn Salem, NC)   June 30th, 2008 12:40 pm ET

Just like regular citizens.. which is why I trust you.

Go Obama

Pol   June 30th, 2008 12:40 pm ET

There are things that you cannot buy for money: honesty, dignity, love, good family. All others, including Clintons – Master card.

Why is this a political ticker? This isn't news!!!!!!!!!

Obama-Junkie, IL   June 30th, 2008 12:39 pm ET

Who is the most normal political couple and family running for President right now? The Obamas (recently earned over $1 million thanks to the book deals) or the McCains (haven been multi-millionaires $70 to 200 million since their marriage 28 years ago).

ANSWER: the Obamas

Ambrose Smith, Borrego Springs, California   June 30th, 2008 12:39 pm ET

I'd like to have the Obama's as neighbors.

ang   June 30th, 2008 12:37 pm ET

I don't care how they re-tool her re-structure her-of soften her.

She is a racist plain and simple.

Her Princeton thesis, staying with Rev. Wright for over 20 years.

Frist time pround of her country in her adult life.

shoul;d I go on. there is plenty more.

I have switched from democrat to independent. shame on ur party for not doing what is right for this country.

Vetting this couple. I will never vote for Obama. McCain will get my vote>

Obama / Clinton 2008   June 30th, 2008 12:37 pm ET

You go Michelle!

Don't let the GOP paint you as something you are not. If they had their way, people would be afraid that you might be a warlord from the planet Zumago who is here to destroy all humans.

Obama / Clinton 08!

Chris   June 30th, 2008 12:37 pm ET

Where's Cindy's speech or rebuttal? lol

CWhite   June 30th, 2008 12:36 pm ET

She is going to be a great first lady.

Shawn - GA   June 30th, 2008 12:36 pm ET

He wants to be president of the US however he can't stay awake for dinner and a movie??? Guess we know who won't be answering the phone at 3am.

ProundToBeDemocrat   June 30th, 2008 12:36 pm ET

Do not worry about anything Michell you are smart, beautiful and outspoke we like you that way do not change for anybody. Republicans can not stand strong woman I would like you to show those idiots how strong you are they will get intimidated and lose the race then obama will be our 44th president.

Watermann   June 30th, 2008 12:35 pm ET

I really would like to see both of them. Barak and Michelle on their trip to Germany. People over here love and respect them. A new generation compared with all these old war heroes. "Times are gonna changing"

Independent Voter   June 30th, 2008 12:34 pm ET

Just one of girls. The one who rode affirmative action to a degree from Princeton and then took the first highly public opportunity to let us know she's never been proud of her country until it gave her the chance to line her pockets with big bucks. A good old fashioned American family on the take.

Just like Greedy Tot, who's raised 1/4 BILLION DOLLARS and still wants even more from HC supporters. Why? Because he backed away from his famous pledge to take federal funds, driving up the cost of US elections beyond anyone's wildest nightmares and setting back campaign financing reform 50 years.

Two Phonies for the Price of Who Knows How Many Phonies $1/4 billion will buy!

Casey in CA.   June 30th, 2008 12:34 pm ET

I think this woman is awesome. She's intelligent, family-oriented and beautiful to boot. I look forward to seeing her as First Lady.

America, free your mind and the rest will follow. Be color-blind, don't be so shallow.

Belle2   June 30th, 2008 12:33 pm ET

I guess CNN couldn't find anything else about Obama to post!

Olivia   June 30th, 2008 12:32 pm ET

Who cares about Michelle and Barack boring lives. I cannot stomach this woman. Everyting I see her I get heartburn. Michelle is a racist is disguise. And as for you Ariana please do not compare Michelle to Hillary. She couldn't even hold a candle to MS. HILLARY CLINTON.

Clinton/McCain   June 30th, 2008 12:32 pm ET

I find it rather interesting that they are friends with terrorists and spent 20 years listening to a racist pastor. I wonder what else there is that we don't know about the Obamas? I'm sure we'll find out soon enough :)

mcCain 08   June 30th, 2008 12:32 pm ET

Maybe after cindy gets too old, I can start cheating on her too, like i did my first wife.

Obama Supporter from FL   June 30th, 2008 12:32 pm ET

I think Michelle is great. It always made me laugh when people accused Barack of being sexist, because he is married to such a strong, intelligent woman – it made no sense.

S Callahan   June 30th, 2008 12:31 pm ET

You don't need to soften my view of Mrs. Obama..i like her..she is articulate, she has a kind spirit yet is strong, and she sets a good example of family first..that's enough for me.... I love that she has shared her intimate moments of time for play (dinner or movie and sleep), i think that script plays out in my home as well. :-)

Dustin   June 30th, 2008 12:31 pm ET

Ah! Amazing how even a good natured article on a candidate can still become a someone else's soapbox for political slant. I guess there's more than one way to hijack a political ticker thread...

Carmen   June 30th, 2008 12:31 pm ET

Michelle is Yuck...

Will in Richmond, VA   June 30th, 2008 12:30 pm ET

To all 'Values Voters':

Who matches up with what you envision the higher standard of family values to be: Barack Obama and Michelle or John McCain and Cindy?

democrat in the white house   June 30th, 2008 12:30 pm ET

EVERY DAY PEOPLE, DOWN TO EARTH PEOPLE,THIS IS THE KIND OF FAMILY WE NEED IN THE WHITE HOUSE, A FAMILY WHO MAY JUST BRING THE GOVERNMENT BACK TO THE PEOPLE !!!!!!

OBAMA/CLARK 08!!!

Democrats Unite!!!   June 30th, 2008 12:29 pm ET

That's why we love you guys, Michelle!

I wish I could say the same for "Bubba"...

Obama/Clinton 2008

Kathryn Irby - Metairie, LA   June 30th, 2008 12:29 pm ET

I beg to differ with Michelle Obama! She and Barack Obama are ABSOLUTELY interesting. I have begun reading Obama's autobiography entitled "Dreams From My Father". It tells all about how his maternal grandmother was part Cherokee Indian. His maternal grandfather was Scotch-Irish. It is a fascinating story of Barack Obama's life!! Once I stop reading it, I can't put it down. I highly recommend it to all Obama supporters.

Ariana   June 30th, 2008 12:26 pm ET

Forget what people say. Be yourself, be outspoken. Enough of useless good-for-nothing first ladies. Be another Hilary!

McSameMcCain on myspace   June 30th, 2008 12:26 pm ET

No worries Michelle, John McCain can't stay awake for either. And this is after he takes the weekends off to rest.

Saad from NJ   June 30th, 2008 12:26 pm ET

I've really started liking her....
