(CNN) – Her husband may be running for the most powerful job in the world, but Michelle Obama says the couple’s lives are as boring as anyone else's.
"Barack and I don't have interesting lives, never did," the potential first lady told USA Today in comments published Monday. "We're basically family people. When we go on a date, it's either dinner or a movie because we can't stay awake for both."
The comments come as the Obama campaign has sought to soften Mrs. Obama's image among many voters who are less familiar with the Illinois senator’s outspoken wife. The campaign has retooled her stump speech to include more details about her family and humble upbringing on Chicago's South Side.

She also made a recent high-profile appearance on the daytime talk show "The View," and graced last week's cover of U.S. Weekly under the banner headline, "Why Barack loves her."

Wow, even though the "whitey" comment has been proven to be an outright racist lie, the Republicans keep on insisting on stating that Michelle used it.
The fact is, the some Republicans and McCain through his surrogates have continued to try to use racism by making up false claims of racism by the Obamas. What makes it sickening is that McCain has not denounced these statements publically or asked his followers to stop using them.
Out of desperation, ignorance and racism some Republicans will keep interjecting race into the run up to the GE.
This is beyond scraping the bottom, it's taking a shovel and starting to dig.
Give me a break! I cannot stand 4 years of this woman. The Obamas surely do not worry about what average Americans worry about. Maybe he goes to bed as early as Bush does, but I could care aless about either of them. They do not understand middle America. He still thinks we are bitter and cling to our guns and religion.

Funny, I was going to say the same thing about the person your mother raised, or did not raise in your case.
I think Michelle is the embodiment of the successful modern woman, well educated, well spoken, family oriented, strong and resilient. She is much much more than the sum of a few words taken out of context that so many bigoted americans want to brand her with.
She is heads above Cindy McCain, a woman of exceptional privilege, far removed for her entire life from the so-called "normal" life most of us experience. She has no "common" credentials with which we can identify with her.
Personally speaking Michelle represents me, a successful, well-educated white woman, far more that Cindy, who I can't even relate to. I've worked hard for my education and my career, as did Michelle, and was not born with a silver spoon in my mouth like Cindy. I'm sure Cindy is a good, decent woman but she has nothing in common with me.
The GOP realizes (as did the Clintons) that Barack is just too popular and resilient to attack directly. So the GOP attack machine will target Michelle because she seems like an easier target and isn't as popular as Barack.
I would love to see the Obama family in the White House because they are just regular people. With God grace, Barack will be our next president.

1)how many of your ancestors were stolen from their homeland?
2) how many of them died during the 1000 mile march to the west coast of Africa?
3) how many of them died during the transport?
4) how many of them were enslaved forced to work 18 hours a day with little break?
5) how many of them were lynched beaten and raped?
6) how many of them had to learn to read in secret because it was against the law?
7) how many of them were dehumanized?
8) how many of them had to die for the right to vote?
9) how many of them have been denied a job, loan education food shelter and other human rights?
10) how many of you have to worry when you see a police officer following you for no reason?
11) how many of you know someone who was chained up behind a pick up truck and dragged until your body was torn apart?
12) how many of you are followed when shopping?
and it goes on...contrary to many, most African Americans i know are not voting for Barack because of his race...but because of his character. i like him and his wife because they both over came the obstacles of being black in America.

We are hiring her husband....the first lady is a ceremonial title...(as a first man would be for a female president) – as with Hillary....you would not sit in on cabinet meetings...and would perform the role of first lady....ceremonial status....the only way you would get to be a senator from that...would be to move from your home state to NY – who will elect any Democrats..
