Obama notes working class roots in new ad

Obama is out with a new ad Monday.

Obama is out with a new ad Monday.

(CNN) - Barack Obama’s campaign announced the release of its second general election television ad Monday, a 30-second spot designed to highlight his working-class roots and economic agenda as he ends his three-week economy tour but continues his efforts to woo that key Democratic constituency.

Watch: Obama courts working women

The campaign said ‘Dignity’ will air in 18 states, including perennial blue-collar battlegrounds like Michigan, Pennsylvania and Ohio, and some traditionally Republican areas where the presumptive Democratic nominee is hoping to compete in this fall, like Georgia, North Carolina and Virginia.

“He worked his way through college and Harvard Law,” says the announcer. “Turned down big money offers, and helped lift neighborhoods stung by job loss.”

The ad will begin airing Monday in Alaska, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Indiana, Michigan, Missouri, Montana, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and Virginia.

Earlier this month, the Obama campaign’s first ad of the general election highlighted his patriotism and values.

SCRIPT – “Dignity”

OBAMA: I’m Barack Obama, and I approve this message.

Announcer: He worked his way through college and Harvard Law.

Turned down big money offers, and helped lift neighborhoods stung by job loss. Fought for workers’ rights.

He passed a law to move people from welfare to work, slashed the rolls by eighty percent. Passed tax cuts for workers; health care for kids.

As president, he’ll end tax breaks for companies that export jobs, reward those that create jobs in America.

And never forget the dignity that comes from work.

Clark asked a real questions, since when does being a POW make you more qualified to be President. McCain is using his history as a POW to say that it makes him a better President then he needs to be asked why! I was in pain for 6yr with a bad hip I then had hip surgery, but now it does not mean that I qualified to be an orthopedic surgeon

I Don't understand why people want to question the patriotism of Obama and his wife. The truth of the matter is this country does not have a perfect past, and at times millions of people had reason to not be so proud of this country. I can mention several, slavery, jim crow, imprisonment of japanese americans, sexist discrimination, the iran-contra affair, watergate, and who knows what other atrocities that the public doesn't know about yet.
I'm proud that this country has come together to right its wrongs and change its mistakes, but yet I believe people would be dishonest with themselves if they say they are proud of this country even when atrocities where being committed and approved by our government. Come to think about it you have people that are proud of those dark spots in our history. People who believe they are entitled because of their race or financial status, people who don't want to see this country change for the better. I'm betting those are the people who will vote for McCain in november. As for me I do BELIEVE!! GO OBAMA!!!!!!!

Die hard racists will use any ploy/excuse to mask their racist feelings. Read the man's books. He comes from humble beginnings and is not ashamed or afraid to say it. He has lifted himself through hard work and then when he was up he didn't keep running he stopped to help others who needed help desperately. Barack Obama is a rare and wonderful human being. He will bring change despite the fact that he has to struggle in a system like the American political machine to get to a place where he can effect this change. How on earth is he expected to change things when he is not yet in a position to do so and he has to CONSTANTLY defend himself from one onslaught after another. I thought Hillary Clinton was mean!! it's only just begun! I am amazed that he has not lost courage and is still standing. What a poor indictment of the American Political system. Barack Obama is cut of the cloth of a young idealistic John Kennedy. Given the chance he will do America proud. God bless him

    To Affirmative Action run Amok:
You need to call the cleaners and see if your sheet (aka your KKK hood) is out of the cleaners. A person like you should want to hide his/her face. Can't believe a person with a mentality such as yours would even know how to spell, let alone vote.

okay BigACE, how about these reasons:

Mr. Obama has said he likes high gasoline prices.
Mr. Obama has said he will tax gasoline to make it cost more.
Mr. Obama is for economic parity rather than equal opportunity.
Mr. Obama will quit Iraq and allow the middle east to plunge into chaos.
Mr. Obama thinks that Iran is no big deal.
Mr. Obama has little meaningful experience.

OBAMA DID NOT HAVE HUMBLE BEGINNINGS. HE HAS ALWAYS HAD WEALTHY GRANDPARENTS WHO SUPPORTED HIM AND PUT HIM THROUGH COLLEGE AFTER COLLEGE. HE CHOSE HIS OWN "PEACE CORPS" THING, BUT HE NEVER WAS POOR LIKE HIS CONTEMPORARIES IN THE PEACE CORPS. HE HAS BEEN SUPPORTED ALL ALONG BY THE CHICAGO BLACK POLITICIANS AND HIS WIFE HAS BEEN A HIGH EARNING LAWYER SINCE RIGHT AFTER COLLEGE. BALONEY ON THE THOUGHT THAT HE IS A COMMON WAGE EARNING MAN. . .

this must be the people obama hired to quickly attack and ridicule any one who states a truth about him.He is not fit to be president.he is a liarer and a flip-flopper on everything. he has good judgement?give us all a break will you how on earth can you in all reality spin that and be believed?he hangs around with marixst , he has a anti- american hater church sure he left it at the last minute when the polls went against him, he hung out with the black panthers, he is friends of bombers.Yah he helped people as a senator in illinois all right aske them how they feel with the contracts he gave to people to build low cost housing they had to be torn down and they made money their is a great video on this and he kept giving contracts as senator he never helped those people he just furthered his career. he is all about himself. for clark to attack macain is disgraceful and he cheapened himself in the action he took.for obama to be more qualivied for the presidency no way he couldn't even be brave enough to make desions and vote on them he is wishy washy and weak. he uses others to do the smearing and pulling down of people and then tries to look innocence. not buying it he did this repeatedly to clinton and bill. you don't stand for anything but yourself hopefully the eyes and ears of the american people will open and see the light.

  15. An observer

Someone said they don't know what exactly will Obama do, even though they find his speeches inspiring.
Speeches are not overrated – they are meant to be inspirational – and it is a president's main duty to inspire. If he has the judgement to choose the right people for his cabinet, there are others to carry out the nitty gritty for him.
As for substance, I think Obama's website has more detailed plans, especially about alternative energy etc. than Mccain's. An inspirational speech may not be the appropriate place to list out bullet points.
I do feel that the Obama campaign must find other ways to publicise these details for those that do not surf the net- such a newspaper ads.

It's about time someone had the guts to question John McCain's qualifications whether he was a POW or not doesn't qualify him exemptions from being questioned, but McCain believes he's exempt or is that entitled.

"Sorry folks, but the day an african american is the leading contender for election to the highest office on the planet, in spite of his complete lack of any qualification to even be a regional manager at Denny's, is the day that we can officially say that Affirmative Discrimination has completely run its course. Can we end this reverse racism now?"

Right, because a Harvard education and well-versed in Constitutional law, must be an idiot. Jesus people, get a grip. Better yet, use more than 1/16 of your mental capacity.

oh i forgot if people are saying that macain gave away secrets and that he was treasonous to the country , you better have your facts because otherwise i hope you are accountable to the full extent of the law for trying to destroy a man who could of got out but stayed with his men in the pow camp. enough of trying to destroy a war hero and trying to make obama more qualified for the presidency when he is not!!!!!!!!!!!

You don't hear anything about the so-called "Rezko connection" because it's negligible. Don't you think if there was anything there someone on Fox Noise would've jumped on it by now? If it stunk that bad, they'd be waving it in your face as much as possible.

All they can do is try to keep the whispers, emails & innuendo going, hoping you won't do some research for yourself.

Its PUMA hunting season, folks. Dont forget to do your part to thin out the PUMA herd. Get yours bagged today, because they are becoming an endangered species.

I checked out some Google stats on these PUMA (And related) websites. They are lying about their numbers, they claim Millions, but only have a few thousand actual active members. If you read their posts, they are pretty much making stuff up, even claimimg Barack called Hillary a b-word. Funny because that was actually McCAin. HA!

There leverage is nil and their sad attempt at a movement is impotent.

Just a loud vocal few pretending they have some power and chasing shadows while they are stuck in the middle 2 stages of grief.
