One woman offered to give Obama her shirt -- off her back.
One woman offered to give Obama her shirt — off her back.

INDEPENDENCE, Missouri (AP) — Clearly, the lady who offered to give Barack Obama the shirt off her back rattled him more than the lady next to her, whose top was emblazoned with a biceps-flexing Hillary Rodham Clinton and the words "Hillary Can Do It."

Obama had decided to take a stroll down one of this tiny town's quiet streets Monday after a speech on the topic of patriotism. That sort of public appearance isn't something the Democratic presidential candidate does often, and he encountered people welcoming him onto the porches of their bungalows and clamoring politely but energetically in small crowds to see him.

He obliged nearly everyone who wanted to shake his hand.

But he never wavered from his goal — the imposing white Victorian manse that Harry Truman called home and used as the "Summer White House" during his presidency. Proclaiming Truman "one of my favorites," Obama would chat briefly, then resume his walk toward the tour.

Until he met Tootie Williams, that is.

The St. Louis native was wearing an oversized white T-shirt. It featured a picture of him and said: "Obama's in the House."

Obama said he loved it. So Williams said she'd give it to him and started to peel it off.

This caused much laughter, but also obvious consternation on Obama's part, even after she assured him she had on another shirt underneath — which she did. As she struggled to remove the T-shirt with a mob of reporters and cameras looking on, he warned "Hold the rest of it down!"

Williams' counterpart in the Clinton shirt, Independence native Debbie Twyman, turned out to be an Obama supporter.

"You've got the face of the Democratic Party right here," she yelled, giving Williams a hug and referencing the Obama-Clinton coming-together last week in New Hampshire. "Welcome to unity."

Obama finally reached the Truman home for a brief visit.

He's gonna get a lot of that. Poor Michelle!! He's young, powerful and attractive.

Not Too Close   July 1st, 2008 9:34 am ET

"Obama's in the House" is a cute slogan.

I do worry about him being approached by so many enthusiastic supporters. Yes, everyone wants to get close to him, but I think the Secret Service should do a better job at keeping people away from the candidate.

Marissa   July 1st, 2008 9:34 am ET

HAHAHAHA I love this guy. Obama 08-12!

This is a nice story   July 1st, 2008 9:34 am ET

These kinds of stories are great to hear from the trail…keep them coming CNN

Sweet Daddy   July 1st, 2008 9:34 am ET

Instead of doing something regarding what is currently happening in the US that needs immediate attention-he is out AGAIN on his pick me for president run way personality campaign.

What a loser-we need someone who UNDERSTANDS and GETS IT DONE-obama is NOT that someone…vote smart this time people!

Say NO to obama

Vaughn   July 1st, 2008 9:35 am ET

I think he hugs women too much. Just shake their hand, Barack. What about that?

Bo   July 1st, 2008 9:36 am ET

I saw a tan shirt with Obama today on MSNBC. Where can I get that shirt?

Tired of W, OH   July 1st, 2008 9:36 am ET

LOL. Too funny.

If a woman started taking off her shirt in front of McCain, he'd probably have a heart-attack.

Why not release it???   July 1st, 2008 9:37 am ET

Speaking of offering things, why won't Senator Obama's campaign release his birth certificate?

Makes no sense not to when it is a regular practice in presidential campaigns. All it should list is what his birth name is, who his parents are, and where he was born. Is there something on there he wants to hide (i.e. born to a foreigner outside of the US = can't legally run for pres)?

Its either a silly position to take that will just cause a distraction or its a cover up.

Freida   July 1st, 2008 9:37 am ET

Don't like all the hugs and kisses. Enough is enough.

Maria   July 1st, 2008 9:37 am ET

Can anyone at all please inform the public of how 2 terms a state senator and 1 term as US Senator is sufficient experience to run the whole country? No international experience whatsoever, no executive experience whatsoever, also equate into the scariest set of credentials ever seen in a candidate!

Can we do a program to educate me and others???Am I missing something?

Fred   July 1st, 2008 9:39 am ET

He's my guy, but women please don't get so crazy. Stay away, just wave.

ShayFad   July 1st, 2008 9:41 am ET

not news worthy, but still halirious

BTW
CNN has more OBAMA tickers b/c McCain's not in the news as often as OBAMA is. After all he tends to take the weekend and other days off.
I know you obama haters are going to start calling CNN bias. It's definitely more balanced than FIX NEWS

Here it comes: the candidate is stealing our women! the candidate is stealing people's clothes! what will Michelle do!? Obama is such an elitist! can't he get his own shirts without stealing?

Nah, just being down to earth the way we love ya!

Go Obama- we support you!

benvictor   July 1st, 2008 9:45 am ET

As a Hillary Democrat, I absolutely love the ticket of John McCain and Mitt Romney. I strongly urge John to ask Mitt to be his running mate. Hillary Democrats will support this ticket enthusiastically in November.

Connie   July 1st, 2008 9:46 am ET

As the saying goes "you ain't seen nothing yet'. wait until Obama goes to Europe , I believe we will see crowds like never before for any leader of any nation. I think other nation are as sick of the Bush/Cheney administration as we are. When Obama wins this election the whole world will be dancing in the streets. Barack Hussein Obama 08

Why does the news(?) media take such delight in writing about such trivial stuff? In my long lifetime I have never seen such a carnival of ridiculous tripe put out by the media! We as a nation deserve better news coverage. This is not an American idol TV show! This is a serious election about serious things, like gas prices, food prices, the Irak war, Undocumented imigrants, etc.
What do we get from our news? Flag pins, not putting hand over heart while singing the star spangled banner(something I have never done, nor have I seen anyone do at any large sporting event.} Flying in a private plane. Having a rich wife.being to old, Statements from Obama's wife. Statements from an egotistical racist preacher from both sides..Newa casts have been nothing but National inquirer spin offs. What ever happened to Huntly and Brinkly????????????????

Charlotte   July 1st, 2008 9:46 am ET

What a joke, the biggest fence sitter in history. Obama is a weak, pandering politician. I can not believe the deliberate selection of towns to imphazise his current speach or event of the day. Unity, Independence, etc. Next topic? Repairing Bridges=San Francisco, CA. People will fall for anything. I will write Hillary on my ballot in November……

Didine - Maryland   July 1st, 2008 9:46 am ET

Senator Obama is such a lovable person. He let anyone embrace and hug him. That is very nice from him. I hope Michele do not mind and is confident that her man would not go beyong that.

@HusseinIsAmerican2   July 1st, 2008 9:46 am ET

Interesting, but this falls under sleaze reporting!……….Can CNN enlighten us on the issues that John McShame supports!

I'm surprised that CNN and all the other major news outlet seems so interested to do a hit job on Obama under the guise of "Oh, we dont so much about this guy!" whereas they are cutting McBush a slack!

let's talk about the issues on both sides…that's what this election should be about. that's what is going to get our jobs back and put food on the table!

YES WE CAN!   July 1st, 2008 9:46 am ET

Tanya Kujath   July 1st, 2008 9:47 am ET

This is a good story of how Tootie Williams is supporting our Democratic Nominee, and how the women next to her is in a serious state of denial. I was a Hillary Clinton supporter, however she is no longer in this race. I will now put all my support behind Barrack Obama. We have the freedom of choice in this Country, however supporting McCain because Hillary did not win is a bit ridiculous!!!!

sharif Jallow   July 1st, 2008 9:47 am ET

Obama really does mean change, it's not an issue of colour, it's simple the belief that this man really will bring change, not just to Americans, but everyone that America's actions effect…the World at large.
God Bless Obama.

Allan   July 1st, 2008 9:47 am ET

Why so many idiot people.obama president? What he did to make him be ready to be president.? NOTHING<NOTHING

Lisa   July 1st, 2008 9:48 am ET

Obama needs to get out there a win Hillary supporters on his own. He can't keep asking Bill & Hill to bail him out everytime. I thought the Unity rally was good until I saw Obama painting his fingernails while Hillary was on stage.

Bryan   July 1st, 2008 9:49 am ET

Yvette: Don't project your own relationship insecurities onto another couple. Hugging people is OK, I promise.

Christopher   July 1st, 2008 9:49 am ET

Yvette wanting the ONLY woman to be hugging OBAMA to be his wife is foolish…. I think Michelle understood the moment that he was running for office that he would be receiving hugs, kisses from women, men, gays and otherwise…(just not Monica Lewinski..LOL) When you are likeable, you simply have to expect that from people. Frankly, I was not an Obama supporter but I am begining to like him quite a bit. (Especially if he offers Hillary VP)

Obama.Clinton

Sen Obama is a very gracious and respectful man.

I want to hear how Obama plans to fund all the stuff he plans to do, without taxing me into the poorhouse.

xddy4u   July 1st, 2008 9:54 am ET

This shows that Obama is one of us, the little man. He's a person that people of all races feel comfortable around. They don't feel treatened. They don't feel like they have to know the whole Constitution inorder to meet him. I do believe that he will be that kind of President. One that will stop his Presidential Limo, get out and have tea with the widow that's sitting on the porch alone. Obama's our man.

saga for Obama   July 1st, 2008 9:54 am ET

oh yeah now i see what they mean when they say he is an elitist…
he would even take the shirt off of that poor ladies back…now she is heart broken, see he doesn't like America. John McCain would have taken the shirt off of her back; he has done it soo many times before i bet, now that's a leader you can "believe in". and how dare he hug a white woman, he is "raciest" isnt he? oh he must not have heard about Emmit Till…hum? and he just walk down the street like that? oh i know all them folk must be CEOs of big oil…

Republicans can try to say it all they want but the Obamas are NO ELITIST. Obama's may have money but they don't look down on anyone for what they may not have. Barack and Michelle are very gracius for all they have been blessed with.

I'm from Chicago and know people that have interacted with the Obama's prior to Barack even running for President. Barack and Michelle are just down to earth people with a wonderful family, who are smart as hell, hard working and have the best interest of America at heart.

The Obama's represent the All-American Family and belong in the White House.

Obama or Bust 2008   July 1st, 2008 9:57 am ET

Keep your shirt on, lady! Karl Rove would just love it if you took it off. I just don't see people as eager to meet McCain. He doesn't have the same charisma, a quality I think is important in a President. I enjoy listening to Obama speak. McCain's denture whistle drives me crazy.

(Please read the sarcasm with that)
Can we stick to the issues. I just paid $4.89 a gallon for home heating oil. Filled up my car at $4.38 a gallon. Went to the store to buy milk, $4.27 a gallon. And you are reporting about a woman willing to rip her shirt off for Obama?!?!
If you can't find anything to post on how he claims to fix America, don't post anything.
Yahoo news has a huge article on how he wants to have faith based companies to help out the government and that they can hire and fire based on faith. Where's that CNN?

Brian G, Sugar Land, TX   July 1st, 2008 9:58 am ET

Michael Ingram   July 1st, 2008 9:59 am ET

The only person you want him to hug is Michelle! Are you serious? This man is going to be the face of the United States in about 4 months. We need him to kiss every baby hug every woman he can to get in the White House. Becasue we sure as hell don't need another 4 to eight years of a Bush Robot like John McCain!

Jarhead68   July 1st, 2008 9:59 am ET

ROFLMAO…at you Kool-Aid drinking Obamaphiles. The Bamboozler has you hoodwinked. Name ONE accomplishment this empty suit has that qualifies him to be the commander-in-chief. And don't answer with "But, but, but…McCain has no qualifications, either." I'm not so impressed with McCain, myself. But Hussein is not even qualified to be an animal control engineer…yeah, a dog-catcher.

Obama supporter in CT   July 1st, 2008 9:59 am ET

I suppose it is a ok story but really do we have to know everything the man does. I mean as long as the guy lives up to the promises he is making I'll be happy because our country really needs to do a 360 and I think Obama can get us on the stool and spin us in the right direction. TeeHee I said stool.

The real elitist indiguise is McCain with 7 - 10 luxurious homes.

The poor guy needs to get his sense of humor back. That's just funny stuff right there.

Ed North Carolina   July 1st, 2008 10:04 am ET

The young are giddy about Obama. Good for them, I am glad they are interested in the country's future. They shouldn't let that giddiness cloud their judgement though. This election is too important to be based on emotions alone. There is nothing I don't like about Obama, but side by side McCain would be the one I would want in charge right now. Maybe BO will be ready in 12 or 16.

Watermann   July 1st, 2008 10:04 am ET

A "down to earth man", I don`t believe that Michelle has to watch him. The Secret Service should do it. It will be a sensitive dance for the Service, on the one hand to protect him and on the other hand to make things like that possible.

Nick, Rochester, NY   July 1st, 2008 10:04 am ET

This is bad for his campaign, I call it the King Kong effect

MD in GA   July 1st, 2008 10:04 am ET

Great human interest story. Just want the secret service to be extra careful with the Senator. This is something historic and I'd really like to see this Presidency come to fruition.

In fact, Hillary CAN do it better. Go away Obama!
Go Hillary!

Economic Professor   July 1st, 2008 10:05 am ET

It's depressing to know that so many can support a candidate with little experience and an ultra liberal agenda. Raising taxes in an economic crunch will drive this nation from a recession to a depression. Watch what you wish for.

Danny in Ohio   July 1st, 2008 10:09 am ET

Very cute and very sweet. It's nice to take a break from the he-said-she-said to hear a story like this. I've already given Obama about 5 t-shirts worth of cash… if those shirts were $2 each :) :)

Obama is going to steamroll John "Keating Five" McBush.

JONNA   July 1st, 2008 10:09 am ET

I believe Clark said nothing out of the ordinary, all he said is that being a pilot fighter doesn't qualify McSame to be President. Besides that, Bill Clinton is a TRICK, and when is everyone going to stop breast feeding him. Just because he may have been a good doer back in the day does not give him the right to act out!!! as a public figure.

TC   July 1st, 2008 10:09 am ET

I want to see him hugging EVERY man, woman, and child that approach him for one on the streets.

He works for them, and a harmless hug is what a lot of people in this country need.

Any reference to a hug as adultry or of a sexual nature really makes me think that someone didn't get enough hugs growing up.

Obama was smart. "Hold that other part down" If not, you'd hear idiots like Sean Hannity or Tucker "Bowtie" Carlson saying that Obama was trying to sneak a peek.

Secret Service does have to make sure that not everyone can get too close.

He should have told everyone to walk with him. "Let's Roll" <—- Oops, that slogan was already taken.

His heart is truely for the people and there welfare. Those dems who vow to vote for McCain…well we all know why there going to do that, but everyone is afraid to say it. They can shout all they want about it not being about race but it is, you can see the hate and anger in there eyes when they speak. Its really sad, it really is.

NoBushThirdTerm   July 1st, 2008 10:16 am ET

No one knows what the person was wearing underneath the shirt. It's a shame that such stories run that leave the reader wondering. That sort of journalism - where the emphasis of the story is the woman who offers to take off her shirt - really should only be shown in line at the supermarket… along with Elvis Found Alive and Madonna's Alien Child headlines.

Shame on you, CNN

Josh   July 1st, 2008 10:16 am ET

Hey "Not too Close" - I'm here to educate you on the secret service. They are truely the "best of the best" when it comes to security…do you really think they just let "everyone" approach the Senator? Beleive me when I say that these people have been frisked by the secret service THOROUGHLY before approaching the Senator….to the point where they basically know what these people had for breakfast that morning.

Kelby from Houston, TX   July 1st, 2008 10:16 am ET

Kwikie   July 1st, 2008 10:17 am ET

I am a little confused here, I read the same story word-by-word on FOXnews.com

I thought that the news channels gather their own stories. Are these stories collected from a common source?

I would be thankful if somebody could answer this for me.

Dave from Gainesville   July 1st, 2008 10:18 am ET

My only gripe with the story is the description of Independence, Missouri as a "tiny little town." It bespeaks either just how far out of touch, just how lazy, or both, the CNN pool reporting staff have gotten, to describe a sprawling Kansas City suburb of well over 100,000 people as a "tiny little town." What does that make South Bend, Indiana, I wonder? …Because it has fewer people.

Shelly in IL   July 1st, 2008 10:18 am ET

BlayzeKohime   July 1st, 2008 10:20 am ET

@ Yvette "The only woman I want to see him hugging is Michelle."

You would feel jealousy from your husband just giving a friendly hug to someone? I know I hug just about everyone I know, man or woman, and I'm sure Michelle Obama is more confident than to worry about such things. If anything it shows they have a beautiful relationship and can trust one another.

Smiley from Conyers, GA   July 1st, 2008 10:22 am ET

Yvette, get a grip! He's going to come in contact with many women on the trail. Many are going to want to shake his hand and many are going to want to hug him. As long as he doesn't have a wandering eye like Bill, then we're good.

Matthew, Philadelphia, PA   July 1st, 2008 10:22 am ET

Worthless fluff!

Let's talk about how he is now vowing the expand the exclusionary, faith-based programs that he and the rest of the Democratic Party "crucified" Bush for.

Or his flips on public financing, wiretapping, MoveOn, etc. Take your pick. Regardless of the issue he said one thing during the primary campaign and is now saying the exact opposite in the general election campaign.

I am one disappointed Democrat.

Martha   July 1st, 2008 10:22 am ET

Well, did he accept the shirt? Or did he politely decline? Where's the rest of the story?
I agree, Yvette, I'd prefer to see him hugging only Michelle, but if he offered to give me a hug, I wouldn't turn it down.
GObama!

I_hear_the_voices   July 1st, 2008 10:23 am ET

If Obama can take Colorado, Missouri and Virginia, it's all over but the shouting. For those keeping score, that's 293 -245, WITHOUT winning either Florida or Ohio. He can even squeak by without Pennsylvania and still clear the 270 vote hurdle.

Geneva   July 1st, 2008 10:23 am ET

I think that the Republican party isn't against the democrats more so that they are against Obama. I think Hillary downed Obama more than she did the Republican party's views of the world…and now McCain is supporting Hillary. I think it was all against Obama. Certain reasons could go into play but the world already knows.

Thank you for everything Barack, we are with you until the end!!!

Man, I look at that house behind him in the picture there, and I think "that'd be the ideal sniper spot for a JFK moment". I really hope Obama's Secret Service detail (you can see some of them in the picture) are on the ball. There's a lot of people, from the Defense Industry, to religious fanatics, to gun-crazy far right wing extremists, who'd like to see Obama dead. Here's hoping they never get that chance.

You ever notice how it's always the nasty looking women that want to get naked for a social cause? Why can't Sharon Stone, Halle Berry or someone that's actually good-looking take off their clothes for a cause?

It's always some local yokel that's 5′9, vertical and horizontal, with chili on her T-Shirt taking her clothes off to be seen. Take it to the zoo, at least there you might get 3 meals a day, lady.

Michael Dominici   July 1st, 2008 10:25 am ET

What's wrong with a hug? He's not a robot; he's a human being and a politician and people want to feel a real connection to him. Besides, would you want to hug Hillary, McCain, Bush, or any of the other sourpusses running for president? I am not saying that we should vote for "snuggles" because he's warm and friendly, but, don't hold it against him, either.

Jackie Brown   July 1st, 2008 10:26 am ET

I'm perplexed as to why anyone would want a poorly qualified, borderline anti-American to run this country.

If it's looks you want, go to Hollywood.

I despise almost all politicians due to their feigned interest in any voting block's interests and their audacity in proclaiming to be for the people when they are only in politics for themselves. I can think of a dozen better qualified politicians to run this country over this flash in a pan.

Andy   July 1st, 2008 10:27 am ET

"I want to hear how Obama plans to fund all the stuff he plans to do, without taxing me into the poorhouse."

If we stop wasting money in Iraq, we'd have plenty. And I'd rather be taxed for a good reason then put billions in debt to the Chinese for a bad reason. If we gotta pay some extra taxes in order to get health care, roads and bridges that don't collapse without warning, federal support for areas hit by environmental disasters, and an end to the wasting of lives in Iraq, so be it. With Bush we've paid our taxes for 7.5 years and gotten nothing. Wow, that's so much better.

Get in line, sheep. These people who worship this man as if he's the second coming disgust me. By the way, like how he's extending Bush's faith-based initiatives? Yeah, change we can believe in. What a joke.

CNN, don't feel the need to post this. I know you just want to continue the love fest with this phoney.

I can use a hug too , ladies. lol

Mike the Independent from Ohio   July 1st, 2008 10:30 am ET

CNN, every day I check you web-site, everyday I see another pointless Obama story making him look like an average joe, I never see anything like this about McCain, what your doing is grossly distorting the images of both men running for president, while I'm not sure who I will vote for yet, and anyone who does know is foolish as we have 5 months and still know very little about both canidates, I would like to see more positive things about McCain or less positive things about Obama, which ever floats your boat, just level the playing field is all I'm asking, because John McCain is not nearly as bad as you make him out to be, and Obama is no nearly as good as you make him out to be

MIT Student   July 1st, 2008 10:31 am ET

Yeah this is a better story…especially compared to the one CNN published on their headlines about Rove calling Obama arrogant. That was complete nonsense…. Rove called Obama the type of guy at a "country club" with an "attractive date" around his arm, or along those lines…

Anyone who does not realize that McCain came from an affluent family, married a woman almost 20 years younger than him, and owns about 8 or 9 expensive homes/mansions while Americans are stuggling to even stay in their single homes during this housing credit market crunch is beyond ignorant. (which is an understatement)

This is all fluff and nonsense.

It is becoming increasingly clear to me that Barrack Obama was only interested in the support of the Liberal wing of the Democratic Party to get the nomination. Now that he has it, he knocks MoveOn.org, castigates Gen. Clark when he speaks the truth, sides with the ultra conservatives on the Supreme Court and backs away from protecting our Fourth Amendment rights by getting wishy-washy on FISA. As someone who donated regularly to his campaign, those contributions ended last week. As someone who does not want a another 4 years of Bush policies, I have no real alternative but to vote for Obama in November. I used to think I would cast that vote enthusiastically. As the days go on, I am more and more convinced that when I do cast that vote I will be holding my nose and again voting for the least bad of two typical politicians.

Some people are just too blind and petty to get why so many people in this country and all over the world love Barack Obama.

I wish we could elect John McCain president of those that are filled with hate and fear and elect Barack president of those that have love and hope.

Is there a problem with Obama hugging his constituents? Thank heaven for a real world, down to Earth, acknowledger of the people that actually make up the large majority of our society and not just the advocate for the wealthy inner circle! And I don't see Michelle running to sign divorce papers because he is hugging possible voters who are women. It makes me sad to see that people think that low of him to question him HUGGING people.

If Obama were president, it would change the face of America abroad. Given the shrinking dollar, the problems of going it alone in the gulf, and the increasing hatred toward the U.S. within Muslim countries, I think Obama would be a welcome change.

Being tough on terror hasn't worked. We need to be SMART on terror. In order to win this war, we need to know more about our enemy. We need to defeat the hatred that is the root cause of terrorism. We need to use all tools at our disposal, not just military.

I hope Obama wins.

Obama said…"You can't have a conversation with somebody who doesn't think you should be on the other side of the table,"…which was the case in the Primaries and is the case now. Obama REGULARLY commended on the efforts of his opposers and in return had to defend his loyalty and dignity against the very same candidates who's primary focus was to ridicule and compose bogus stories about him. The issues of the world were addressed when Obama spoke, but when his oppositiion spoke, they only wanted to creat a negative image on Obamas character when they spoke.

Mabye Yvette you need a hug. Instead of allowing commentary on this ridiculous topic how about opening up commentary for the questionable goings on with the oil industry. Why is it every time time the prices go up it is simply demand outgrowing supply. When at the same time OPEC countries like Libya are talking cutting back production because thay have quote " too much in reserve" that is not being purchased. Call it what it IS…….the rich getting richer off the real workers of this world. The only plus to this is it is forcing all of us to rethink our excessive waste as Americans.

Obama will remove Bush's tax cuts in a time of recession. Raise corporate taxes (Windfall Tax) so they can't hire as many people and be as profitable. I thought capitalism and innovation where at the heart of America. Raise capital gains taxes which will hurt the liquidity on Wall Street. Implement socialized healthcare when we don't even have money for social security. This man is full of empty rhetoric. McCain is the lesser evil though I am not sold on him either. Unfortunately people are slow to examine the issues facing our nation and quick to say "Yes We Can" when they feel they will get a free ride somewhere. This is a very important election for our nation's future and our current economy. Please consider the issues I have mentioned.

Respectfully submitted,

Mark Swanson

He DOES not need to hug every woman who introduces him at a rally. That's all I'm saying. I'm an Obama supporter, and I don't want the GOP to make something out of nothing. Barack needs to stop hugging women, period, unless it's Michelle.

I get your point, hugs are nice, but he's running for the highest office in the land, and enough is enough.

Having said that, I'm giving some fundraisers for him this summer. So I'm on HIS side.

He's becoming the Family Feud guy, just stop it.

It makes an interesting analogy with what the liberal ideal is: increase taxes to take the shirt off the back of the person would worked hard to afford it and give it to someone who didn't.

Of course, since a government agency is handling the transfer, what came in as a long sleeve shirt is given out as sleeveless tank top.

The reason so many people want to get so close to Sen. Obama is that they know how close he is to the issues that most affect them. It is time to realize how far from reality the Rebublicans have strayed, in the name of supporting "Their President". Our military is streached to the point that they cannot effectively protect our own borders, and the Republicans are talking about another "War" to wage in Iran. Sen. Obama will bring this country back into the real world and we will be safer and I believe we will once again have a chance for everyone to live the American Dream rather than just the very very rich.

STILL FOR HILL   July 1st, 2008 10:53 am ET

I thought it was hard to name one of Obama's accomplishments.

Now, it's getting hard to name one policy he hasn't flip-flopped on.

I was a democrat before we became the laughing stock…

By the way, when will Obama debate McCain? When will Obama visit our troops?

Just wondering…

McCain 08

Hey, up there,
Obama's birth certificate was actually released a while back. Do a google search and you can find it.

Re: Birth Certificate - there is a copy of it on his web site

Maria @ 9:30 am - Foreign Policy - Senator Obama formed a committee over two years ago to study the situation in the Mid East that includes people who actually live in those countries as well as well-informed US experts on the subject.

He has done the same on many other situations that challenge this country. That is what drew me to him.

Why not Release -

Maybe you should go to his website; it's only been posted there for a month. Obviously you don't read a lot.

What really gets me is that Obama said that his grandmothers words made him cringe….But the words Obama listen to for 20 years from wright didn't ….Alot of American's want to know why this is….If any words would make someone cringe it would be the words wright used to fill the young minds of this country to hate America and whites of this country….Now that makes me and millions like me cringe…

Okay, we know Barack is a sweet guy, but I agree. Too much hugging.
He also has to present himself to the world, and we don't want the world thinking he's a lovable huggy bear–he has an image to portray. Hillary didn't even hug that much.

In the middle   July 1st, 2008 10:55 am ET

Once again another situation that is aimed at his personality. I am a young voter who does not support Obama. People have to relize this isn't a "movement", if it seems like it is now it will be politics-as-usual if he gets elected.

Keep an eye on the issues, not modivational talk.

I am worried for america, myself an so many of my friends (all young voters) can't believe all the hype over him. I think he tells people what they want to hear, one of america's biggest problems. And the fact so many people want to get out of Iraq and want some easy answer. Guess what there isn't one. Just imagine if we pulled out of that country now… you think you have seen violence… just wait if we leave.

The right choices usually are the hardest ones.

I can not believe people are foolish enough to vote for some one based on looks or charism. The attribute that is most needed by a President is integrity. That means being honest even though it might hurt you. Obama is definitely not that. Time and time again when it comes down to issues that would put Obama at risk of losing voters or public support, he avoids the issue. He constantly side steps questions (just look at his response to the other articles written yesterday and today - no answers, just I do not think we should waste time voting ….). I won't spend the time to discuss the many times he has radically changes his mind in the last 10 months. (Public funds - 3 times he said he would, now no; Wright issue not disown, then month later disowns him; Iran not threat to of course Iran is a threat …..). He does not take a stand on any major policy. In fact he almost never talks policy anymore because early on when he did he would get hammered for it by Hillary or John. Since then he has learned that enough people are foolish enough to vote for him based on looks and talk. (There are some other great examples in history when people voted on looks and charism. Study history a little more especially ancient civilizations and governments. It will help you understand that you should vote based on POLICY not looks.)
