Obama over fist bumping?

Barack Obama and wife Michelle famously fist bumped when the Illinois senator captured the Democratic nomination.
Barack Obama and wife Michelle famously fist bumped when the Illinois senator captured the Democratic nomination.

(CNN) - Is Obama ditching his signature fist bump?

According to Tuesday's press pool report, the Illinois senator refused to bump fists with a boy as he was touring the Eastside Community Ministry in Zanesville, Ohio.

As the boy outstretched his first, Obama said no and added, "If I start that ..."

His voice then trailed off.

The presumptive Democratic presidential candidate popularized the move last month when he and his wife Michelle bumped fists on the night he formally captured the party's presidential nomination.

Watch: The famous fist bump

Video of the duo fist bumping became widely popular on the internet, leading the Washington Post to declare it “the first bump heard ‘round the world.'”

Perhaps that is Barack's and Michelle's special "thing" that they do with each other. Totally understandable.

That is just too bad. I loved it when he and his wife did it.... showed, to me anyway, that they have a very good, close relationship and, more importantly, that they are in this together. Too bad and so sad that the nitpickers and rumor mongers had to make a big deal out of it.

There's no need to devalue his uniqueness just because others may not be as young or fearless as he is. He shouldn't always have to play to the lowest common denominator, we've been doing that for 8 years.

It is stupid and riduculous on Deal No Deal and it is especially ridiculous looking when a "supposed" ridiculous presidential candidate and his ridiculous wife do it. NAUSEATING!

There's nothing wrong with the bump. Unfortunately, Barack keeps changing and trying to look conservative or "presidential" for old bitter conservatives who won't vote for him anyway because he's black. Bump away!

CNN you have gone over the TOP! I like many others have fled your site and station because of your fake headlines. You deliberately misquote Obama about Clarke to try and make it look like he has dimissed him as some kind of nutcase. It is sad to see the place we all once depended on for REAL news has sold out.

"Is Obama ditching his signature fist bump?" How is this his "signature"? I've only seen him do it once.

If you look at the video – yes, again – his wife initiated the bump. Totally unfitting of the presumptive nominee. I believe he is ditching it because it may appear too black?

Shame on Mr. Obama! Give the boy daps for Pete's sake! And what the heck is this "fist bump" or "fist jabbing" that the media calls it? Mr. Obama and his wife gave each other daps, or what some call a pound. It's an endearing gesture, usually among black males, that has existed for centuries. America just has to get used to a president that gives daps every now and then...We've put up with George Bush's antics for this long, I'd figured we'd be numb by now!

That's funny (but unfortunately a little sad for the boy)....but it's true....once you start doing it with EVERYBODY it's gonna lose the specialness and cuteness that is shared between he and Michelle.

Plus, who wants to have to fist bump everyone? Good grief....it's hard enough shaking hands.
....so for you people that thinks it's a secret co
I only fist bump my boyfriend, no one else. And it's usually when we're just driving in the car and not even talking......he just puts his fist up....and i meet it.
No words needed....it's an "i love you" thing for us.

Will every gesture be questioned? Americans have been fist bumping for years. Critics complain that he's not a conventional candidate, then they complain that he's not conventional enough. He started off being an attractive candidate because he's different yet everyone wants to make him fit into molds of the past. There are few things about his candidacy that are like the past. Let it go!!!!!

I enjoyed seeing the fist bump. It gave us a little insight into the relationship of Barack and Michelle. It showed that he's not stiff and that it's okay to have fun as the intended president. It was light moment, that's all.
