Obama over fist bumping?

Barack Obama and wife Michelle famously fist bumped when the Illinois senator captured the Democratic nomination.
Barack Obama and wife Michelle famously fist bumped when the Illinois senator captured the Democratic nomination.

(CNN) - Is Obama ditching his signature fist bump?

According to Tuesday's press pool report, the Illinois senator refused to bump fists with a boy as he was touring the Eastside Community Ministry in Zanesville, Ohio.

As the boy outstretched his first, Obama said no and added, "If I start that ..."

His voice then trailed off.

The presumptive Democratic presidential candidate popularized the move last month when he and his wife Michelle bumped fists on the night he formally captured the party's presidential nomination.

Watch: The famous fist bump

Video of the duo fist bumping became widely popular on the internet, leading the Washington Post to declare it “the first bump heard ‘round the world.'”

As usual if you don't support Obama you don't get your blogs posted. But you all can keep preaching to the choir, your bias is showing.

Ok, c'mon now, are we going to wind up with the same candidate? First the campaign funding, then the flag pin, now this? Don't make this guy into a caricature of himself, please! John McCain starting to look like the real reformer here. You guys are playing scared in the fourth quarter when you should be going deep to increase the lead . . . if there's still a lead.

    Be real,

Too late man it's everywhere (and it's not like you started it)

I do wish you'd quit supporting this Faith Based Charity nonsense.
Separation of Church and state is at the core of our nation's success.

I really don't understand why the media made a big deal over this fist pumping. It is not like Obama made it up. It was "cool" a long time ago and Obama didn't make it cool.

Is Barack Obama growing up? With all the seriousness of our society's ills, we need an adult in the white house not a teenager playing president. There are a whole lot of people around the world who will not understand the flippant attitude of this candidate and his "American Rapper " gestures.

I think Michelle put him up to it in St. Paul and he's figured out that he needs to DUMP THE BUMP.

Obama, fist bump if you so choose..........the media made way too big a deal about this, athletes do it all the time. My co-workers and I do it all the time also as a greeting, we really need to get to what the real issues are for this country................the economy, gas prices and its influence on the economy, health care, our aging seniors, the strengthing of the american dollar, need I continue......

this is absurd that this story has received so much media attention. can we please focus on the real issues that will affect America? How about health care for all? The environment? The war? I just dont see why the media is getting distracted (or even distracting citizens) with stories of actions that are simply different ways of shaking hands and greeting one another. This absurd coverage has no place in a presidential campaign. And the fist bump is used by millions in this country, go ask any teenager or twenty-something year old. It's not a big deal, and America doesn't care if Obama uses the fist bump or not.

And this is directly for to the media: it seems that you have the power to affect the direction that the candidates take their message. We expect more from you. Focus on the issues that matter and help steer the debate towards real concrete issues that we DO care about.

Obama's afraid of Fox News labeling him a terrorist again. There's nothing wrong with "bumping fists" and there's everything wrong with being afraid of Faux News. Don't change who you were Obama because its scaring all of us who believe you're better than Bush and McCain.

Its not a "Fist Bump" its a "Pound it, Dawg". I have been doing this for years and Obama steals it! We'll see if he gets my vote!

    obama is becoming to "cautious"!!!!

dont wear a flagpin/do wear one

dont be seen taking pictures with muslim women/do take one

do the fist bump/dont do the fist bump

what that tells me is that his "professional handlers"(people who seek jobs & positions of authority should he win)

are starting to make him "robotic to the american people"

MICHELLE YOU NEED TO GET YOUR HUSBAND'S "EVERYDAY REGULAR GUY" MINDSET BACK!!!!!

OTHERWISE HE IS GOING TO START TO TURN OFF HIS BASE OF PROGRESSIVE PEOPLE!!!!

    BLACKS/ WHITES/HISPANICS/ASIANS & NATIVE AMERICANS!!!

WE ARE NOT LIKING WHAT WE ARE SEEING & HEARING THESE LAST THREE WEEKS!!!

OBAMA GET BACK TO YOUR PROGRESSIVE TALKING POINTS & STOP TRYING TO CATER TO THE SO CALLED CENTER/RIGHT!!!

This whole thing is ridiculous. My husband and I have been doing that now for over 8 years. Get a grip people. It's just a little unity love between husband and wife... or friends, or supporters.

I think I've been doing the fist bump since 1988 or something.

It will be a shame if he stops, as the fist bump gives off the impression of laid-back youthful ease, qualities clearly lacking in our current constitution burning, tin horned dictator president.

I guess he has been told maybe it appears too "non something" that will make him appear not the type for Presidential material. Some body must have complained otherwise he wouldn't be stopping it. And to Gary – Howie on Deal or o Deal does a fist bump because he is absolutely paranoid about germs and will not shake hands or even touch anyone if he doesn't have to. The first bump is about as close as he will get to touching someone, other than when people come and grab him and he has no control over that.

Shaking hands in large crowds is already tough on a politician's hands. Just imagine how beaten up their hands would be if they spent their time bumping fists with person after person in large crowds of people, day after day. The fist bump from the video was a genuine moment of warmth between two people who share great affection for each other, and it was nice of the boy to want to share such a gesture with Mr. Obama. But the candidate is right- if he starts doing fist bumps during his political tours, it could get out of hand. Now isn't there something more substantial to report on- poverty, crime, war?
