Obama over fist bumping?

Barack Obama and wife Michelle famously fist bumped when the Illinois senator captured the Democratic nomination.
Barack Obama and wife Michelle famously fist bumped when the Illinois senator captured the Democratic nomination.

(CNN) - Is Obama ditching his signature fist bump?

According to Tuesday's press pool report, the Illinois senator refused to bump fists with a boy as he was touring the Eastside Community Ministry in Zanesville, Ohio.

As the boy outstretched his first, Obama said no and added, "If I start that ..."

His voice then trailed off.

The presumptive Democratic presidential candidate popularized the move last month when he and his wife Michelle bumped fists on the night he formally captured the party's presidential nomination.

Watch: The famous fist bump

Video of the duo fist bumping became widely popular on the internet, leading the Washington Post to declare it “the first bump heard ‘round the world.'”

To: Clinton, no, wait, McCain Supporter-if you focus on such petty issues and ignore that fact that the next President will be responsible for adding the next Supreme Court Justice (or two or three), then you are truly not a Clinton supporter. Go ahead-Send our sons to war and tell our daughters they have no choice.

O... we should vote Howie for president then. This isn't a game show. This is our children's future that Obama wants to flush Some can say smoking crack is widely accepted. Let him bump his way right out of the race... fine with me and the rest of the decent people in the country.

I guess he doesn't need people calling it a "Terrorist Fist Jab" Even thought there are pictures of the First Bush doing it with a tennis player. Also Al Pachino does it in Oceans Thirteen. But with BO it's a "Terrorist Fist Jab"..

Wow. You guys are really pathetic. No wonder our elected officials are reduced to this pathetic pandering. Please report on something that actually matters. Stories like this prove while U.S. news is a joke.

And by the way, he didn't invent that "fist jab". Its called a "dap" and has been around for years you freaking morons.

Crap! Are you really serious about this election? Is this the kind of crap you want people to spend time on instead of raising serious issues for discussions? You guys a shame to this country!

A question for "Clinton, no, wait, McCain Supporter"... why the animosity? This isn't even a serious issue... Fist bump? Really? Your ex-candidate seems able to support the Democratic nominee... which of Obama's policies keep you from doing the same? Finally, do you truly believe that your comment contributes to the debate besides just making yourself feel a little better and look spiteful and childish to everyone else?

To the first post: There is little that Obama can do to look less "presidential" than Bush. But if you're willing to doom the nation because your candidate didn't win the nomination, go ahead and vote for McCain.

Howie is a germaphobe, he won't shake hands with anybody.

Obama is being guided by a team that wants him to stay right down the middle. That is just what will kill him in the election. The voters will see through his facade and turn on him.

I'm glad he continues to flip/flop on issues in an effort to follow his handlers.

Makes it much easier to defeat him in November.

Why is this such an issue?

The fist bump is a common greeting/acknowledgement.... no big deal. I think that the reason for all of this press coverage is because the media is just now learning something new..... it must be tough to be in such a sheltered world... get out of your bubble Washington,DC Press!

You have got to be kidding me. With all the problems this country faces, this not even an issue. I would have had more respect if he stuck by his guns and did his thing his way. This country is in a bad way if this is what makes news, please!

Sorry, Athletes have been fist bumping for several years. Is this really news worthy? Let's have some news coverage on all the jobs being outsourced and gasoline prices increasing rather than Sen Obama's fist bumping or not or Sen McCain's military service. No wonder American's are dumbed down.

It's silly to run from each and every criticism. It allows the opposition to dictate your agenda. It's time for some trailblazing ideas, customs, and yes, demonstrations of solidarity.

The person who coined this "move" the "fist bump" must have been in a nursing home for the last ten years. This has been called "the pound" or giving "a pound" and is a generally accepted salutation under this name. Calling it a fist pump is like calling a high five a "flat hand collision".

Anyone who has been alive at any point during the past 20 years or so would know that the 'fist bump' is pretty common – much like a 'high five' – ever play in or watch a sporting event ?

Hey all you independent thinkers, do some research and look at the facts. Find out how many times Obama has not voted when he had the opportunity. Who is this man? Do you really know what his ideals are? Look at his history and the facts and THINK before you vote. Don't just follow the lemmings. You're are voting for more than prom king.

The "pound" or "Dap" has been around for several years now...well before they started calling it "the fist bump." It's no big deal really....just an acknowledgement. Why should Obama stop it?
