Obama over fist bumping?

Barack Obama and wife Michelle famously fist bumped when the Illinois senator captured the Democratic nomination.
Barack Obama and wife Michelle famously fist bumped when the Illinois senator captured the Democratic nomination.

(CNN) - Is Obama ditching his signature fist bump?

According to Tuesday's press pool report, the Illinois senator refused to bump fists with a boy as he was touring the Eastside Community Ministry in Zanesville, Ohio.

As the boy outstretched his first, Obama said no and added, "If I start that ..."

His voice then trailed off.

The presumptive Democratic presidential candidate popularized the move last month when he and his wife Michelle bumped fists on the night he formally captured the party's presidential nomination.

Watch: The famous fist bump

Video of the duo fist bumping became widely popular on the internet, leading the Washington Post to declare it “the first bump heard ‘round the world.'”

Thank you for saying to the boy even though you do not mean any insult.
The media was waiting for another bashing.

As a retired political consultant I can say with confidence that Obama was told, in no uncertain terms by the people he pays him to tell him things in no uncertain terms, that he had to knock that off. He's already got the votes of anyone who would fist-bump anyone else neatly sown up. What he needs is the polite-handshake and hat-tipping crowd.

Smart move on Obama's part. Why give the fools concerned with such silliness the ammo to start whining that he's leading young Americans astray by not setting a good example with a "proper", patriotic, firm, capitalist, All-American handshake.

I can't believe I am commenting on this, but here I go.

With gas prices , wars being fought, flooding, fires, people loosing their homes, jobs being lost, tornadoes, global warming, paying more for food.

What did people think when the famous kiss was seen on Oporah,

This man is from a younger generation and culture unlike WASP (White Anglo Saxon Protestant ) gentlemen who have held the position of President of the United State in the past.

I wounder if we will want to know if he pulls his toilet paper from the top or bottom? or if he puts the cap on the toothpaste, or does the wear briefs or boxers? or if he waits the full two minutes to rinse his mouth out with mouth wash and what brand of toothpaste?

    This whole thing is cute.

Ever notice a majority of the articles about Barak are about something irrelevant? (Fist bump, shirt off back, Obama girl, etc?) Me thinks he might lack substance or maybe he is so tightly controlled that the media has no real access....either way, not presidential qualities.

Better ditch it, cause it's really complicated for some to wrap their minds around it.. It's been exhibited during sporting events over and over again,..all in a sudden, it's a terrorist 'fist-bump'?

    Vote!

I still don't get why Clinton supporters won't vote for Obama. Have you read the issues and noticed how similar Obama and Clinton are? Even both Clintons will agree to this statement. I am a Clinton supporter, but will gladly vote for Obama. Take heed. By switching to McCain, you're voting another "W" into office and when we're "bomb-bomb-bombing Iran" as McCain himself said, we'll be left figthing three wars and bringing the darkest days to America. Educate yourselves first on the issues and then decide.

I would not read too much into this... same with most stupid stories like "Obama ordered blueberry waffles – what can it mean?!" Obama also has a sense of manners etc... a fist bump should be between equals, like Barack and his wife, or two friends on equal footing. A little boy is not the equal of a presidential nominee, and the boy should be taught to extend a hand for a handshake.

So maybe Barack prefers to shake peoples hands, and wanted to retrun to the customary handshakes, why is this on the top of the political ticker.

I wnat to know what jobs McCain was promising to the Columbians, and to Mexico, while here at home people are losing their jobs.

Obama what is wrong with you? You are being overly careful these days. Why diss your supporters like that. Come on now – you are kinda getting on my nerves with all of this butt licking and repudating everything your surrogates say because John McCain wants you to. Just chill – I thought the fist bump was cool. Just my opinion.

Geez, Obama...it's Okay to be just a normal every day person that the people can relate to AND a presidential candidate – maybe even the president some day. If you can't respond to the kids (think "kissing babies) I'll not cast my vote in your direction...bummer Clinton's gone from the race.
