(CNN) - Is Obama ditching his signature fist bump?
According to Tuesday's press pool report, the Illinois senator refused to bump fists with a boy as he was touring the Eastside Community Ministry in Zanesville, Ohio.
As the boy outstretched his first, Obama said no and added, "If I start that ..."
His voice then trailed off.
The presumptive Democratic presidential candidate popularized the move last month when he and his wife Michelle bumped fists on the night he formally captured the party's presidential nomination.

Video of the duo fist bumping became widely popular on the internet, leading the Washington Post to declare it “the first bump heard ‘round the world.'”

I don't get why this is even an issue that we're thinking (and writing) about when we are trying to elect a new president. Let's discuss issues....not how you say hello to your friends and family. Very weird to me.

Oh brother. Before this process is over with, people won't know who Obama is – this is just one more flip-flop. Restore Hillary Clinton's candidacy. Print her name in on the November ballot. Reject McCain and Obama.
A couple of things:
1) A fist pump/bump is really no big deal. It's an expression that none of you tight wads would understand and/or appreciate. It's hilarious how something outside of the "accepted norm" is somehow linked with terror or anything else confounded in macabre.
2) I'm a little disappointed that Barack didn't respond to the kid. Again, it's a generational thing that the elderly (yes, I chose my words wisely). The refreshing thing about Barack is that he connected with the youth and wasn't afraid to be who he is/was.

No new news here. The word has always been that he hates working the rope line...will not sign autographs, etc. Nothing out of character, the guy is an elitist and does not have time for the little people.

It's too bad a black candidate has to deal with such harsh realisms. No white cadidate ever had to exercise such care in fear of appearing too white. Of course, it's only human also, to worry too much about "how things might look". Man, the historians are going to have a field day dissecting this presidential election. Ive never seen so much apoligizing for things by all the participants...Bill,Hilary, John, and Barrack. What the hell have we become as an electorate?

What!? A bump and no grind?
You all are off base. The fist bump is done by 80% of the law students at my school. The possibility that it is a terrorist symbol is ridiculous. We all laugh about it. If we play that game, let's look at all the Bush and McCain–isms. McCain for example always says, "My friends" when he addresses crowds. Sometimes the crowds are not "friends" of America or friends of his. Should we tell him to stop? We finally have a man who is going to unite the nation. Obama is not just good for America, he is good for the world. So many countries hope we make the right decision and elect Obama. It is people who create these false stories about Obama that are taking away from our nationalism. We should be focusing on substantive issues. One of you made a comment that Obama is different one day to the next...Have seen MCCain? Wanted to ban drilling of more oil, now he changed his mind. Wanted to not take public campaign money, but he did (and now says Obama is wrong in HIS choices). He was for the war, then against the war, then wanted the war-and a surge. As far as Obama having the seal...I see Obama websites, stickers, advertisements, job postings....all I see is John McCain visiting Mexico. I respect John McCain as a war hero and American, but he should not be the President. Obama will be an excellent president. He is strong, but sensitive. Wise, but not stubborn. He is a good talker and a good listener. He cares for black and white, rich and poor...and the best idea of how he will do internationally...is that international polls show that other countries don't want McCain to win...they want America to pick Obama .
So, now this is his signature? Do you people reread what you've written? He's right. If he starts fist bumping, everyone will start sticking their fists out instead of their hands. That's when it becomes his signature. It is not. He also patted his Wife on the back. Do we expect everyone the turn their backs on him now. I think I've also seen him kiss her. Imagine.
