Obama over fist bumping?

Barack Obama and wife Michelle famously fist bumped when the Illinois senator captured the Democratic nomination.
Barack Obama and wife Michelle famously fist bumped when the Illinois senator captured the Democratic nomination.

(CNN) - Is Obama ditching his signature fist bump?

According to Tuesday's press pool report, the Illinois senator refused to bump fists with a boy as he was touring the Eastside Community Ministry in Zanesville, Ohio.

As the boy outstretched his first, Obama said no and added, "If I start that ..."

His voice then trailed off.

The presumptive Democratic presidential candidate popularized the move last month when he and his wife Michelle bumped fists on the night he formally captured the party's presidential nomination.

Watch: The famous fist bump

Video of the duo fist bumping became widely popular on the internet, leading the Washington Post to declare it “the first bump heard ‘round the world.'”

That is not 'Obama's signature fist bump. So he has nothing to ditch.
Fist bumping has been around a long time.

Was this something to really write about?

Boy CNN this should be on the front pages, above the fold, of every newspaper in the country....NOT!!!!!!!!

Maybe he just did not want to have to do it with a number of folks as he had a schedule to keep.

Why don't you stick with the news instead of BS stories of absolutely no valaue!!!!

I dare you to approve this!

Wow, this is pretty stupid. I'm a huge Obama supporter and all, but really? This is the latest news on the race? Wow. And I can't believe people on this board are going to try to tie this into the race (like the guy above me ^^^^^^) and prove "this is why Obama is inexperienced. He doesn't know how to shake a hand." Get a life.

Que the 200 or so man-hating lesbians and bitter old ninnies who constitute the PUMAs.

It is too bad that Barack has to act like this, but in this age of the Republicans making lapel pins being more important than real patriotism, symbolism matters. Get into office and he can fist pump all he wants to.

I voted against Bush bith times would have voted Hillary without thinking. Barack gave me pause because I new McCain was a more center Rep. and Barack is a lefty and I hate the left of my party. They continue to give us the type of untested candidate that wilts on the national stage. Not fist bumping a child because of some minor thoughts of negativity of appearance shows again it is about pandering not policy with this guy. Nothing is worse than a lefty except a pandering lefty

Really?...no i mean Really? no CNN you have to be joking with this one...i want you to do a story about free trade and how Americans are loosing their jobs, or how Cindy McCains Budweiser is cutting the jobs of thousands of workers, Black's terror statement and why he is still on Mccain's staff or Lieberman for his inflammatory comments or if McCain really didn't pay taxes on his 4 of 7 homes, and what about Keating 5 how much meat is on those bones he did an OJ on that one, what about the $69,100.00 McCain took from the swift boat people he once disparage, any word from Carol McCain yet?
A fist bump? i am more interested in McCain not knowing about Economy, i mean 58% of us feel it is a number one issue, how about the bill he spoonsored that he flip flopped on...CNN what about that? how about McCain's top ad visors being lobbyist, is that a news story for you or what?

There will probably be the usual posts slamming CNN for covering trivialities. These people conveniently ignore the fact that you cover the important stuff as well, and that they're not required to read things that don't interest them.

Personally, I like that you cover the lighter side of the campaign as well. This viewer says keep it up!

Clinton, no, wait, McCain Supporter July 1st, 2008 7:25 pm ET

Another attempt to make BO appear "presidential." Too bad he didn't know enough to knock it off on his own, but that's why he and Michelle have a crew of "handlers." Boy, do they need handlers!

    -------------------------------–

Name one policy that John McCain and Hillary Clinton agree on. Oh, wait, you cant. Why, because they agree on nothing. So, if you were truly a Clinton supporter( which I highly doubt), then there really is no explanation of how you supported Clinton, and now back McCain. They have absolutly nothing in common, except for the color of their skin.

Yeah what's the big deal about fist bumps? I don't get it, the fist bump has been around for 15 years at least. Just because Obama is popular and generates a lot of YouTube hits doesn't mean this is any signficant event or story.

Barack Obama did the correct thing when the opportunity presented itself. He correctly instructed a young man how to properly greet another. We shake hands. It's a universal jesture of good will. Fist bumping between a husband and wife is ok. It was cute and funny. Now when approached by a youngster who wanted to fist bump him, Barack Obama did the right thing. He took the opportunity to instruct the fellow that it's not the right way to greet another.

    Good call Barack.

This is just the media's way to try and disrespect and bring down the Obama's. While I must admit I would not do that-they were just being playful. They are allowed to have fun sometimes.
