Obama over fist bumping?

Barack Obama and wife Michelle famously fist bumped when the Illinois senator captured the Democratic nomination.
Barack Obama and wife Michelle famously fist bumped when the Illinois senator captured the Democratic nomination.

(CNN) - Is Obama ditching his signature fist bump?

According to Tuesday's press pool report, the Illinois senator refused to bump fists with a boy as he was touring the Eastside Community Ministry in Zanesville, Ohio.

As the boy outstretched his first, Obama said no and added, "If I start that ..."

His voice then trailed off.

The presumptive Democratic presidential candidate popularized the move last month when he and his wife Michelle bumped fists on the night he formally captured the party's presidential nomination.

Watch: The famous fist bump

Video of the duo fist bumping became widely popular on the internet, leading the Washington Post to declare it “the first bump heard ‘round the world.'”

Thanks for reporting such important news! I feel like I am so much better informed now!

What's next CNN? "Obama Eats Funnel Cake At County Fair"?

The First Bump? Seriously? I mean really.....is every move this man does going to be scrutinized like some new found cell or galaxy? That was a private moment between him and his wife despite the fact that it was in a hugely public forum. Anyone ever heard of the high 5? That 'bump'...consider it a first cousin.

So what's next.........OMG! Barak Obama scratched his nose with his left hand.......quick! That must mean he's satanic! Because everyone knows anything done with the left hand........

    The first bump....hahahaha.

    "WE lifelong democrats"

If you don't vote for him... frankly you never were a democrat... and I don't particularly want you in my party anyway. Most likely you were always a Bush apologist.

Wow – You people are simple. We are voting for a President and somehow the conversation is about what the press has termed "fist bumping" b/c obviously no one ever did it before. Let's make up other equally important and relevant headlines:

    1) Barack Obama has trouble moving bowels – will he have similar trouble moving nation?

    2) Barack Obama baby kissing cause for concern?

    3) Is Michelle Obama's right hand wave technique a sign to the GOP?

Paula, this is a campaign for the Presidency of the United States of Amercia of course Obama has to prove himself. Did Obama and his supporters really think that he could just repeat his catchy slogans over and over and no one would question him at all about the issues or his recor?.

"Fox news said the fist bump was a terrorist gesture"
Actually, no, they repeated the words of someone else who postulated that. Get your facts straight instead of repeating hysterical rumor.

As for the "white enough" comment by someone comfortable with their own racism:
The fist bump has been used for quite a while by people of all races. Just because you were not aware of it does not mean it was an exclusionary racial thing. Otherwise, Steve Spurrier has been black for a while and just not known it or shown it.

That whole fist bumping thing reminds be of Zan and Jane, the Wonder Twins from the old Superfriends cartoon that used to be on Saturday mornings. It's always been a pretty rediculous way of saying 'hello' or 'way to go' or whatever else it means these days. Makes sense that someone like Obama would use something so lame.

And BTW, Howie Mandel may use the fist bump on Deal or No Deal, but it's because he's a huge germaphobe. Things like shaking hands and hugging make him wig out.

Why don't CNN and the rest of the news media try to focus on the ISSUES instead of this type of nonsense. Nobody would even know about it if you jerks in the media wouldn't get your panties in a wad over it.

Gas, building materials, food and the rest of the necessities of life are doubling in price almost every year. Americans are struggling to stay afloat and the news media is concerned about a fist bump?

Where is Walter Cronkite when you need him?

Senator Obama is extremely arrogant. Although, this entire story is pretty lame. He didn't make up the "bump." Of all this country has to focus on, you, CNN focus on a personal gesture between a man and his wife and make it into something spectacular. My boyfriend and I do that all the time. My brother and I have a "fist bump" similar to that too. So come on and give us REAL news.

I too will vote for McCain because I would love to see him finish us off. George Carlin was right Ameicans are not given enough credit for being stupid.

To all the extra stupid Hillary supporters that are voting for McCain, I invite you people to research Bill Clinton's policies and Presidency. Thats if you guys are capable of research. The policies that made the Clinton years prosperous are the same ploicies that Obama is proposing. So vote McCain if you want the next eight years to be like the previous.

You want for more of the last eight? Forget "the bump," nitwits. If Obama changed his mind everyday on every issue until election day, he still couldn't complete with McCain on that score. Johnny McPain should be sitting in a Clearwater resthome, complaining about the creamed corn and talking to the television.

Ohhh, stop the presses, a fist bump!

"Black people are just SO funny! Lookatem! Lookatemthere! He done jabbed that there boy's fist with his own fist! Must be how they say howdy! Whoo doggy!"

I hope Obama continues to take the higher road by not allowing himself to get bogged down in the scum-ridden swamp that is CNN.

Are you Americans so stupid that you can't see what a mess your current political party has made of the economy??? The sad thing is the rest of us wouldn't really care about the stupid decisions you make if it didn't affect everyone else. It's a pity the rest of the world didn't get to vote in your election because if we did probably Mikey Mouse would be the President and the economy would be in a much better condition.

You guys would be stupid to put the same party in power again, but then again you DID put that Moron back in as president for a second term...

I think the big thing for some Americans is that Obama is smarter than they are. He and his wife attended the best colleges, they are well educated, determined and black.. and that scares many PEOPLE............. whay would you want a president that isn't smarter than a fifth grader, to make yourself feel better..........

Those that voted Bush in office should not complain about gas prices, he was an oil man before he was president and will be after he is president.......... I do not think its a mistake that gas prices are going up as he is going out........ I think it's his retirment plan that he is thinking of not you and me.
SO I GUESS MY BIG QUESTION IS DO YOU REALLY THINK A 76YEAR OLD MAN HAS YOU, YOUR KIDS AND COMMUNITY IN MIND????????????

aS AN AFRICAN AMERICAN I KNOW HE DOES NOT UNDERSTAND THE ISSUES THAT ARE IMPORTANT TO ME.....i MEAN THE MAN VOTED AGAINST A KING HOLIDAY IN HIS STATE, AND HAD THE NERVE TO SHOW UP AT A KING EVENT IN ALABAMA TO APOLOGIZE......... INCONSIDERATE, IGNORANT, RACIST...........

His "signature move"?? What a bunch of crap. I knew as soon as they gave each other some dap before his speech that night that it would turn into a national "story". How pathetic, petty, and small of the media...and those who harp on this non-issue out of emptiness and desperation.

Way to go Obama! Disappoint a misguided kid who appears to idolize you to tow the political line! What a guy! Talk about your independent thinker – NOT! And CNN, what is the deal here? How is this news? Or is it news anywhere but on "The Obama Channel"? I don't know who is more pathetic – you or Obama!
