So what would the talk have been if Michelle and Barack had greeted one another on stage with a nice professional handshake? This is all context. The playful way in which you greet your husband or wife, or even your own child, is not appropriate for a presidential candidate to greet someone–particularly a child– on the campaign trail. there is nothing misleading about a fist pump or closed high five. it is a recognition between people 'EVERYTHING IS GOOD' whether it be about sports, polotics or anything else in general. the reaction by the woman commentator on the fist pump between barack & michelle obama was one of stupidity and ignorance. the fist pump is used every day in business, sports or any general environment of people.

i would urge barack obama to continue using the fist pump-it is natural to him as it is to millions of other people from all walks of life.

This happens every election cycle - the candidate moves far to the left (or right) during the primaries and then has to move to the center during the generals in order to get elected. Call it pandering, call it what you will - but the reality is that in order for anyone in this country to get a enough electoral votes in a Presidential election in this country, they have to espouse some pretty centrist views. It's two party politics at work.

I'm just crossing my fingers that Obama has moved toward the center for the primaries and then once in office will move back towards the left. In the meantime, the most important thing that this country needs is right now is some inspiration and unity - and Obama is the man for that.

I'll have to do it with everyone as I walk past this crowd, and then my fist will hurt. Try bumping your own 2 fists together 5 times. THEN, add in that its gonna be another person whose speed you cannot control – and who might have a big ring or whatever.

I agree it stinks to have to leave the kid hanging. BUT, I really don't think it would work well to bump fists into a crowd instead of offer out an open hand for a handshake or quick grasp.

He has said the same or similar about signing autographs or giving hugs. Maybe he was in a hurry -he does draw big crowds.
