The Republicans have systematically driven out anyone who doesn't meet the neo-conservative and/or fundamentalist Christian litmus tests. Consider that, until recently, a MAJORITY of members of Congress from New England were Republicans. Because rank-and-file New England Republicans don't have a home any longer, the Republicans are down to 1 member of the House and 3 Senators (two of whom are in trouble) in all six New England states combined. For those who write off this survey as reflecting some radically liberal state...ask yourself this question...Can the Republcians afford to write off six states every election cycle THAT THEY USE TO DOMINATE? Over the past three decades the Republican Party has made it clear that people who are fiscally conservative, yet socially liberal are simply not welcome any longer. Consider that, until recently, a MAJORITY of members of Congress from New England were Republicans.
