Hagin, left, with former Bush aide Karl Rove.

WASHINGTON (CNN) — White House Deputy Chief of Staff Joe Hagin will be leaving his job this month, according to White House spokesperson Dana Perino.

Perino says Hagin's last day will be July 20th.

"The President said that he thanks Joe for his service to the White House, that Joe's been a loyal friend, and that he is excited about the next chapter in Joe's life," said Perino.

Hagin sent an email to friends this morning, announcing he is leaving to take a private sector job.

Hagin, an Ohio native, has been with President Bush since the 2000 campaign.

Combined with experience during the first Bush presidency, Hagin has served 14 years in the White House.

Hagin was a behind-the-scenes player, who had a huge role in the post 9/11 reorganization of the U-S government and how terrorist responses would be reformed.

Okay how is it jumping ship? If there is only a few months left and no campaign to work on, why would you stay?

And Some of you need to really read Obama's economic plan for everyone who is mindless follower of him, who don't ask any questions of him by the way, if there is anyone that will run up a bigger defict, it's Obama.

Switching from Fossil Fuels to green energy is going to cost a lot of money. One windmill alone costs about the same as a brand new drilling rig that you use off shore, and it costs more than a land rig, ONE WINDMILL!

And what is the point of switching if you are going to take thousands of jobs down with it. How do you "change" jobs with ones that have no need for a person to fill it.

Also what about the third world countries that won't be able to afford the "green energy", are we going to pay their bills too?

There has been absolutley no microeconomical analysis of his plan other than by Dick Morris, and he thinks its a pipe dream.

Also Universal healthcare time and time again has proven not to work, that is why you have rationing in Canada AND the UK, and some doctors are refusing to take Government Healthcare, and with our notorious abuse of tort in this country, law suits alone would bankrupt it.

I mean has anyone stopped to ask where we are going to get the money from this.

Oil companies make %4 of the sale of gas, and 15% by the government and you are telling me in two years a democratic controlled congress has done better with that money than the republicans?

some of ya'll need to get a clue and stop following party loyalties, you democrats are as bad as the modern republicans.

and actually read what Obama has to offer, and ask yourself, how much money am I going to have to spend for this.

OH   July 3rd, 2008 3:12 pm ET

They are jumping to McCain's campaign…another four years of Bush as we can see…IF he gets near the White House that is…

What amazes me about the state of our economy.?.?. Not a single person has stood up and asked for these Bush "economist's" college transcripts. Surely the most ignorant of them has taken Econ 1101.

Rule #1- Currency should be finite. If you borrow or "print" more money than the market can support; you will flood the market and devalue the currency. Oil being set in US currency…$1 today…$2 tomorrow..and so on. (EASY HUH?)

It's that simple…an 18 yr old freshman is studying this very concept and Bush & Co. seem to ignore it.

Both he and Condie have been incognito for at least 2 years, out of the spotlight for whatever reason. Hmmmm, ever wonder why? What are they doing in their capacities as the Nos 2 & 3 most important elected/appointed officials of the American People? Hey, Dick & Condie, remember who pays your salary, who you work for, whose interests you are supposed to keep uppermost in your minds….? What difference does it make that this rat is leaving the WH now or later? The damage to America has already been done and continues to be done by the Republicans and the spineless Dems. We and our children and our children's children will have to suffer the consequences of the past seven years when the Iraqis and Afghans take their revenge for the loss of their loved ones. Our jobs continue to be shipped overseas. Our currency goes down the tubes. Our military is broken. Our health care becomes even more unaffordable and inaccessible. For his part in all this catastrophe, he should be socially ostracized and if possible, convicted for complicity.

I just hope Obama has the cajones to have Bush and Cheney prosecuted after they leave office, or better yet – have them turned over to the Hague.

I am waiting to see if Obama is smart enough to choose Hillary as VP. She is obviously the best choice. I don't care what any nay sayers have to say. Hillary still had 18 million supporters. And more think she would be a good choice than those that don't. I heard that we should hear of the selection possibly next week. I wil be very disappointed in any choice other than Hillary. I don't like him but will vote for him right now. But if he doesn't choose her, I will really hate him and may return the favor by either voting for someone else or not at all. I don't feel very motivated in his direction at this point. Just waiting to see him show his true colors.

Aaron Williams   July 3rd, 2008 12:20 pm ET

I'm sure he's got his mansion waiting for him in Dubai, they've robbed our country and destroyed our Constitution, now they can go live it up with their buddies the oil barons and the defense contractors.

Twins in Washington   July 3rd, 2008 12:19 pm ET

See that's the problem everyone in Washington looks the same. That has to change!!! Obama and whoever he chooses for V.P.

Larry, Hazleton, Pa   July 3rd, 2008 12:17 pm ET

Another of the bush/cheney crew leaving for a much deserved job in the oil industry or maybe a lobbyist either way it amounts to the same thing. Just hurry up Jan 20, 2009 so that all of them will gone.

UG   July 3rd, 2008 12:14 pm ET

This picture is priceless…Rove and Hagin playing with their "equipment." Glad they are both gone.

Politics of Fear   July 3rd, 2008 12:10 pm ET

I wonder how many of you posting negative comments on Bush and his administration actually voted him in first or second round? You remind me of the Iraqi's whacking statues of Saddam after it was pulled down…meanwhile were to cowardly to do anything while he was still in power. It will be interesting in the next 5 months whether or not something will happen to instill fear in you again and let you continue to vote in another era of Republican rule…

dennisk   July 3rd, 2008 12:07 pm ET

Hey, saga4obama, I thought the same thing!
But I believe it's Tweedle Dum and Tweedle Dumber.

ddaryl   July 3rd, 2008 12:07 pm ET

yep public office serves only one real purpose.. getting rich and retiring welathy by pandering to the corporations..

We are screwed as a country because of the way politicians and their top aides get pandered to. you know they are on the take and have these deals set up while there in office.

thenewgeneration   July 3rd, 2008 12:02 pm ET

It's hard to trust any white guy in a suit these days…..

how about term limits for insiders?? 14 years of lingering opinions on very powerful people..??

there better be extensive investigations that nail governmental criminals to the wall once a new president is in office.

why do you think the war continues? it's becuase no one in congress will go through the impeachment process or to do investigations on insiders with our country at war… that would risk the already fragile balance of power we have given to the political system to rule our lives.

I think its all time for us to start growing our own food and living our own lives that is more in line with the natural world we inhabit. Up with the states and local governments power to rule! The federal government has way too much power.. and as they say power will always be abused. Maybe we'll someday find out how this guy added to the mess were all completely aware of at this point.

Vic of NYC   July 3rd, 2008 12:02 pm ET

All I can say is that I truly hope that whomever is our next President will have the character and patriotism to prosecute the treason committed in the Bush Whitehouse against our country and our people.

An unknow black man from Canada help blogged 4 Obama since primary.   July 3rd, 2008 12:01 pm ET

Getting shotdown ehhhh!!! we have to question whether you know your job or if you qualify to pilot that plane.

Mccain you have no clue about the economy so butt out. How are you going to speak about what you have no idea about?

Mccain is a joke, he can't keep lobbyiest's money, and jump on every thing that you has no idea how it works.

How can we trust your words when it often change?

MCCAIN CAN NOT KEEP HIS CAMPAIGN'S MEMBERS' PERMANENT.

HOW WOULD YOU CREATE JOB WHEN YOU HAVE FIRED YOUR EMPLOYEES 2 TIMES IN 9 MONTHS?

THEY NEED JOB TO SUPPORT THEIR CHILDREN AND PAY UP THEIR DEBT.

MCCAIN IS NOT QUALIFY TO RUN THIS COUNTRY. HE WILL FIRED PEOPLE EVERY 8 MONTHS.

Jack   July 3rd, 2008 12:01 pm ET

With only six months left in the second term, this is nothing unusual. From now to January every two-bit Republican hack will get a chance at an interum job in the White House.

I guess his conscience couldn't take it any more – oh wait – no one in the Bush administration HAS a conscience. He just went for the money.

Don't be fooled people what you are seeing here is a smooth transfer of the Bush and Cheney staff and advisors directly to McCain. McCain is actually running to be simply their new FRONTMAN!

this in the news this morning – mcshame is inept even at helping create laws – why should he be in charge of our country —–

Allies of Sen. John McCain have found new loopholes in the campaign-finance law he helped write — and they're using them to reel in huge contributions to help him compete with Sen. Barack Obama.

Carl, Atlanta   July 3rd, 2008 11:19 am ET

Another rat jumps ship! White House staffers have been quietly leaving for the last eight months. This is common in the last few months of an administration, but Bush has lost more staffers and earlier than any other president. There's nothing else for them to do, I guess. They've already done all the damage they can.

So when they talk about terrorism threat, ask them who is responsible for the situation? Why cant they understand that the only way to win hearts is through love?Guess that goes against neo-cons/repubelicans !

dave martin   July 3rd, 2008 11:13 am ET

to some of us conspiracy nuts , this operation to free these hostages comes at a time when it does good only to mccain, and the cafta project, I have always thought that Farc was being used to hold these political prisoner like the presidential candidate
they farc have many hostages and they are held at different places
I believe the government has had these people in their possession the whole time , I believe this is a staged release to help mccain look presidential, this will in turn help protect the CAFTA agreement
the republicans must remain in power to protect these agreements .

I also think the three mail american captives re CIA and the government had them as hostages to protect their interests
so they must really want to help mccain to let them go at this time

Using Bush's "reformed" and bush's policies for handling terrorists is a bit of an oxymoron. Not sure how you could describe it but "reformed'" is not a word that rushes to mind when I see the sad state of events In Afghistan and Iraq, not to mention the brilliant way he has handled the Israel/ Palestinian situation and, he's done it so well, (so his sycophants tell him) he's ready to take one Iran. What an absolute fool he is!!

I'm sure some folks in the White House made sure that Joe Hagin wasn't planning releasing or writing a book on his second Bush term years, like Scot McCellan did!

Ranger Jay   July 3rd, 2008 9:47 am ET

Another rat leaves the sinking ship. Thanks to rampant cronyism, do doubt he'll be outrageously rewarded for his incompetence.

The "reorganization" is an ineffective boondoggle, and one that is destined to drain piles of money from the public coffers.

Heck of a job!

Just Saying   July 3rd, 2008 9:45 am ET

I bet you any money the democrats are gonna jump on this one with something negative (we should actually change the purpose of the democratic party to the party that is always negative – even amongst its own).

News to the democrats — Bush's term is almost over and his staff are looking for new jobs.

RH   July 3rd, 2008 9:44 am ET

Another crook fleeing the rats' nest.

Kate, Atlanta   July 3rd, 2008 9:43 am ET

Is he going to work for McBush???

PG   July 3rd, 2008 9:43 am ET

Seems like two people "hard at work." NOT! This administration is FINALLY dwindling until there is NO MORE!

Mike   July 3rd, 2008 9:42 am ET

Good decision. With the economy going down the drain. A Trillion dollars in debt to China and a worthless dollar. Now is a good time to put distance between smart people and Bush/ McBush.

Foreign observer   July 3rd, 2008 9:41 am ET

Ther rats are leaving the sinking ship..

Michelle   July 3rd, 2008 9:40 am ET

That's it? Why is he really leaving? where's the rest of the story?

Loretta from California   July 3rd, 2008 9:39 am ET

leaving so soon? What ever happened to fulfilling ones obligation?

DEMOCRATS UNITE!!!!

smile   July 3rd, 2008 9:38 am ET

Twins?

Saad from NJ   July 3rd, 2008 9:38 am ET

Not President Bush himself, but his legacy or lack thereof is getting so disgusting.

Hagin is eyeing the money Scott has been making and also has noticed the criticism that he has received for not quitting earlier. That's why he is not quitting now and not a few months later. He will probably come out with a book at any point between now and 20 years later.

But the sad part is that whenever he writes one, there will be nothing new in it, nothing that the we all do not know already. Unless he waits maybe 50 years. By then people would have forgotten Bush. How old is Hagin?

Phil-Little Rock   July 3rd, 2008 9:38 am ET

Milk the cow for all it's worth, then pour it on another brand of cereal. How convenient. One less Bushie for the world to cringe about.

ProundToBeDemocrat   July 3rd, 2008 9:37 am ET

who cares may Bush and cheny should do the same.

Mike   July 3rd, 2008 9:36 am ET

More Rats jumping from the sinking ship SS. Republicana.

richard   July 3rd, 2008 9:34 am ET

don't let the door hit ya!

JonRoss   July 3rd, 2008 9:33 am ET

Why does CNN not have a single story or banner about the singing of the "wrong" national anthem at the DNC meeting in Denver this week ? Nothing anywhere on any CNN site. It is every where else. Especially on non DNC controled outlets.

Sean   July 3rd, 2008 9:33 am ET

Let's hope he doesn't write a book.

Bob Indianapolis, IN   July 3rd, 2008 9:32 am ET

Bye Joe! We'll see you at the Hague at the War Crimes Tribunal in about a year!!!

J. Richter   July 3rd, 2008 9:32 am ET

The biggest problem is Bush's poor management of our economy (of course 9/11 did not help him but expanding the war to Iraq without justification while cutting taxes has only left us in trillions in debt and paying the interest on that when he actually inherited a surplus).

Now it appears McCain doesnt know how to manage money either (he was quite truthful on his relatively low understanding of economics). The McCains had nearly 300K in credit card debts when they were worth millions (even though every smart manager knows credit card interest debts are nearly triple those of investments) and also left property taxes in California unpaid for four years which is either slothful at worst or being disorganized at best.

RallyGrrrl   July 3rd, 2008 9:32 am ET

I wonder if he's made a book deal yet…

And by-the-by: politics aside, is that not the geekiest picture ever to come out of the Bush administration?

Greg, NY   July 3rd, 2008 9:31 am ET

Is he related to Karl Rove? They look exactly the same. Except… wait, wait.

Where's his flag pin?!?!

Not fooled by distractions   July 3rd, 2008 9:29 am ET

Another bush slimeball slithers off…

Hawaii Times   July 3rd, 2008 9:29 am ET

Another rat deserting a sinking ship. Good riddance to the rat and the ship.

Richard, FL   July 3rd, 2008 9:29 am ET

It's too late. The ship has sunk.

RCH, St. Paul, MN   July 3rd, 2008 9:29 am ET

Another rat leaving the sinking ship. I wonder if he'll write a book about all the hypocrisy he's experienced in the White House too? It's all the rage nowadays to spill the beans and try to salvage their honor after being a Bush lackey for several years.

Brian G, Sugar Land, TX   July 3rd, 2008 9:28 am ET

Another example of the need for term limits for staffers.

Tony   July 3rd, 2008 9:27 am ET

BYE!

Gina   July 3rd, 2008 9:26 am ET

Looking forward to the tell-all book soon!

WARS ARE COOL   July 3rd, 2008 9:26 am ET

I bet you he got a job in a Defense Company… or maybe an oil company… Cause hey they owe the Bush administration for helping them out with those record breaking profits… AMIRITE?

LET IT GO   July 3rd, 2008 9:25 am ET

Hmmmm, I wonder why now? sounds kinda fishy

tigerakabj   July 3rd, 2008 9:25 am ET

I'm telling ya, they know what's coming. First McClellan, and now this guy. When Obama gets in there, it's gonna be Nuremburg Trials Round 2 on the whole administration.

I bet within the much ballywhooed 100 days, Obama will say to his attorney general and company, "Every dirty deed, every lie, every cover-up, every act that has done nothing but take this country (and world) apart, I want collected asap. Lets give CNN and FOX something to talk about since they love controversy so much."

DiChiara   July 3rd, 2008 9:24 am ET

This is exciting news and will certainly be the thing that improves the fortunes of the Bush Administration and all Americans. I think I have a chubby.

Independent Voter   July 3rd, 2008 9:21 am ET

Joe Hagin is going to write a kiss and tell book about the corupt Bush Administration. hahaha

Tony   July 3rd, 2008 9:21 am ET

I'm surprised Bush has anyone left working with him at all. Worst president in the history of this country by far!

saga4obama   July 3rd, 2008 9:20 am ET

kinda look like tweedle Dee and tweedle dumb in that picture.

Bob   July 3rd, 2008 9:19 am ET

Why is it that quite a few of the Bush loyalists are leaving ? Maybe there will be another tell all book this time from Hagin ?

saga4obama   July 3rd, 2008 9:18 am ET

since there are still those who question if Bush/Chaney had a role in the 9 11 attacks will Hagin be able to dis spell any rumors (or shed some light to the facts) as a private citizen?

Charlotte   July 3rd, 2008 9:17 am ET

As Cheney would say, "so".

Doris,Memphis,TN   July 3rd, 2008 9:15 am ET

Hagin is wise.
He knows a democratic President is coming soon.

Obama/Biden 2008-2016
