Jeb Bush is meeting up with McCain Thursday.

(CNN) – Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, the brother of President Bush, is meeting up with John McCain Thursday in Mexico City to visit the Basilica of the Virgin of Guadalupe, his campaign has announced.

Bush, who was governor from 1999-2007, endorsed McCain's White House bid earlier this year after it was clear the Arizona senator would win the party's nomination. Bush did not endorse a candidate during the primary campaign.

I think some of you people need a life.

So what they are just meeting. Don't think that means he is going to be vice-president.

Jeb Bush is not his brother and Sen. McCain is not George Bush. Just because Bush was a bad president doesn't mean his brother was a bad governor or McCain would be a bad president. Give Sen. McCain a change and maybe I will give Obama a chance.

It's all the hatefulness from Obama supporters that is making me not want to vote for him.

Justmyopinion2008   July 3rd, 2008 2:36 pm ET

Gov. Jeb Bush will be a great VP choice for Sen. McCain in order to ensure that the "B" dynasty will continue! I hope Marverick McCain ignores any advice against such choice, so that that American can see the possibility for the return of "Terminator 3" in a different incarnation. Come November it will be very interesting to see if majority of the voters do forget their brains on their beds before going to vote or if they allow it to join them while voting and perform the most basic function?

Adam from Memphis   July 3rd, 2008 2:33 pm ET

Who cares? There's never enough money in my check, groceries are getting too expensive, and gasoline – well, you get the point. I personally do not care who endorses who, and will not waste my time reading too much into these things. Let's keep our focus narrowed on what matters: Issue #1

Nan   July 3rd, 2008 2:33 pm ET

To JW – No, I don't think they do "get it". If they did, this country wouldn't be in such an incredible mess. But then, what else do you expect of the GOP (Gross Old Panderers)?

Yes we can, PA   July 3rd, 2008 2:22 pm ET

Run, Jeb, run! Please be McCain's VP choice! If so, this election is a wrap for sure.

christina   July 3rd, 2008 2:21 pm ET

I love CNN! I tell you, a lot of times you all do more harm than good. McCain's biggest challenge is trying to separate himself from George Bush. He's claiming that he won't be a protege (anyone with a 1/5th of a brain knows that's a lie). So don't you think that perhaps posting an article that says the old fart will be meeting with Bushy-wushy's baby brother might contradict what he's trying to accomplish???

Great job CNN! Keep handing over votes to Obama!!!

OBAMA '08!!!

I would be so happy if the entire Bush family packed up and move to South America. And maybe they could take McCain with them.

Anyone who would even fathom voting for a McCain/Bush ticket should have their citizenship stripped from them immediately.

NO MORE BUSH's EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It will take decades, if that, to recover from the one we have now.

Jubie   July 3rd, 2008 2:15 pm ET

Yeah, we *know* why Jeb met with McCain so far away from our homeland. To discuss what Jeb's great state of Florida could do to rig another election in favor of another (gasp!) Republican. Does anyone doubt this? Hello.....McBush is an apt description. I smell collusion.

Tim   July 3rd, 2008 2:07 pm ET

Does Jeb Bush race in NASCAR now?

California Gold   July 3rd, 2008 1:59 pm ET

Some fool in McCain's cluster actually thinks Jeb Bush would enhance McCain's chances to win in November?

Jeb Bush & McCain, in this political enviroment ...I cannot see how that could work. If it did happen I would say McCain would have more guts than anyone running for office in decades. The democrates may
not have to much to worry about this election , since McCain has not even got the Conservatives on board. Added note here to shock all of you, is I like Bush, yep...President Bush. I wanted to give all of you something to complain about for the next 20 pages. I think he is an honest player. Any mistakes made, will only be really ferreted out in history along with the good. But the future will surprise all of you. That is the good news. I have stopped disliking Clinton. It is amazing that Bush had two major African Americans in the Whitehouse and the Democrates think they are the only ones who advance blacks. I think they hold these wonderful people down to make sure they will vote for their party only...so be it. They may one day get off those chains as well. I had to encourage a Clinton suppoted who came by the house that both Barack & Hilary will win on or lose on their merit not anything else. I said everyone I know has moved on beyond race & gender. She was afraid Obama would get it and not Hilary. Life is never dull is it.

It has been roomered that they ( bushs and Rep) want to groom Jeb for a Pres. run. What would be better than to take him as VP and then have him run in 4 yrs. He is pretty well liked in FL. a key state. Could be interesting.

It won't be long and the Obama bloggers will have CNN all to themselves. Then they can just talk to themselves all day long until the Election. By then it will be too late to hear anything but their own voices.

If you think just because we have become silent that we are gone from the political scene, think again, We are still out here and ready to vote for John McCain in droves. Just remember "if a tree falls in the forest and no one is there to hear it, does it mean it didn't really fall'? We do not hear you anymore, you are just talking to yourselves.

Watch out for falling trees!

Surely McCain wouldn't be so stupid as to put Jeb Bush on the ticket.
Naw, I think he's asking for ways to screw with the Florida vote. In return, you'll see old Jeb in some high profile office in Washington if McCain wins. God, I just wish the entire Bush clan would go away and count their ill gotten money and leave the rest of the world alone. (Oh, wait, George Bush can't count that high, can he?)

A true leader would have seen thru the sales pitch of ( Look at all the additional revenue all the state and local governmental agencies will have coming in due to increased property taxes, sounds good and it was a easy sell) Until speculators drove the prices out of reach of average people. those same tax roles failures are causing police officers, teachers and various other local governmental layoff's here in Florida. Why would McCain pubilcize a meeting with Jeb? I suppose that is a lot better than a secret meeting with Jeb. So why meet face to face with Jeb at all when the Bush name is so incorrect of late? Is this how McCain "distances" himself from George?

Connie "Hussein"Strugeon   July 3rd, 2008 1:05 pm ET

Just another case of John McBush distancing himself from Bush. I hope we get a picture of John McBush and Jeb hugging also for the family album.I think John McBush can not have his cake and eat it too, this is just anther nail in the coffin he will be a third Bush term, people wake up.

A quarter from 1964 contained about 90% silver and could buy about a gallon of gas. It took about five of those quarters to get an ounce of silver. Look at the value of an ounce of silver today and divide it by five. Ironically (sarcasm) it's about the same as a gallon of gas today. If our money were actually backed by something gas would still only be around 30 cents a gallon.

Unless you had Jeb Bush as your Governor of your state, you don't know anything about him. He was a great Governor for 8 years until he had to leave office due to term restrictions. By the way, he doesn't want to be in public office any more.

I feel terrible for our country, Obama and my fellow supporters. Most of us do not realize this signals a very bad fall election.

Think about it.....The republicans, though tepid support for McCain would prefer a 3rd term before allowing Obama to enter the White House. The end game being Jeb Bush VP to become POTUS in 2012.

Next....you have the PUMA PACs that would vote for McBush/Bush before supporting an Obama presidency.

Finally, the democrats (progressive / liberals) are fueling the attacks against Obama for flip flopping on FISA and capital punishment.

Two quick points on the later : The FISA bill....if Obama didn't support it and Black's words came to fruition...the average american would say "Obama didn't do everything possible to avert an attack. A true Muslim". Capital punishment – duh...Obama has two little girls. enuf said

Do these Hillary Democrats for McCain really exist? These people are very confused! I think the more likely story is that they are disciples of Rush Limbaugh who are posing as such in a pathetic effort to sway other voters. You should no longer call yourself a democrat if you identify with the political ideaologies of McCain. He is conservative on all the issues that matter in this election.

I am outraged by the outcome of the last two elections and where we sit as a nation. I don't know what bothers me more; to think that the integrity of our elections was compromised, or the alternative explanation, our citizens really did vote for Bush (not once, but twice).

DEB – were you really for Hillary? I find that hard to believe that someone who agreed with Hillary on the issues would think that McCain/Bush would be a good alternative. They couldn't be further apart on most issues. Something smells like a republican in sheeps clothing here...

Windy   July 3rd, 2008 11:28 am ET

As a Floridian, I say the wrong Bush became president. Jeb was a good governor for the State of Florida. He transformed the government and was fair and honest. Too bad his last name is Bush.

NPA   July 3rd, 2008 11:28 am ET

I am a Florida resident. And the fondest memory I have of Jeb Bush is when as governor of Florida Jeb stole the votes for his brother George Bush in the 2000 election - introducing America to its darkest chapter since I have been alive. As for the rest of Jeb's legacy? Well, like I said, that was my fondest memory of the governor.

thegoreyears   July 3rd, 2008 11:27 am ET

Not even McSame is stupid enough to pick a Bush as a running mate. Not one person on earth is that stupid, although McSame does sometimes seem almost as dumb as George.

Marilyn, Powell, Ohio   July 3rd, 2008 11:18 am ET

Deb and all others so intent on voting for McCain to punish the DNC and biased media: Hillary was my choice and I am saddened that she will not be our president. However, I too swore I would not vote or vote for McCain but I have come to my senses. While I would rather have Hillary, unless something drastic happens, I will listen closely to Obama's message. Our country can't go on like this and McCain is radical. I supported him in 2000 but he has changed and will do or say anything to get president before is name. We need to take back our country for our children and grandchildren. He is in line with George W. Bush and look what is happening in Afghanistan because we put all our resources into Iraq.

william spivey   July 3rd, 2008 11:17 am ET

Whats with all the VP talk?

News flash- no one has mentioned Jebs name as a possible VP

The 2 names I have heard mentioned most are.
-Mitt Romney
-Bobby Jindal

I have McCain's missing Military Records in a Shoebox outside of Toledo   July 3rd, 2008 11:16 am ET

Jeb is one smart cookie. He got those Non Felon blacks and hispanics off the ballots in Florida in 2000.

Here's how the president of the United States was elected:

In the months leading up to the November balloting, Florida Governor Jeb Bush and his Secretary of State, Katherine Harris, ordered local elections supervisors to purge 64,000 voters from voter lists on the grounds that they were felons who were not entitled to vote in Florida. As it turns out, these voters weren't felons, or at least, only a very few were. However, the voters on this "scrub list" were, notably, African-American (about 54 percent), while most of the others wrongly barred from voting were white and Hispanic Democrats.

American Gangster wasn't a real movie, the BUSH's are the real American Gangsters.

Christopher   July 3rd, 2008 11:16 am ET

LOL@ The GOP...I mean, I think that for ANYONE that isnt a gazillionaire and a GOP layalist, you gotta be DUMB!!!! But for those dummies that will yet again vote for another BUSH....Hey, once sure way to ensure a Democrat is int he White House :)

This in the news today – McShame is inept even at being a senator – notice he can profit from his mistake --

Allies of Sen. John McCain have found new loopholes in the campaign-finance law he helped write — and they're using them to reel in huge contributions to help him compete with Sen. Barack Obama.

Peg   July 3rd, 2008 11:11 am ET

He won't pick Jeb for VP, just wants to have him help him win the state.

The REAL PROBLEM with electing McCain is that he's a potential "time bomb" waiting to explode. I'm a psych nurse who knows about war prisoners, torture etc. and their emotional health. These individuals suffer from anger, rage, depression, anxiety, delusions etc. and can "break" at any time and require emergent psychological treatment. No thanks, don't want to take that change with our President of our country.....do you?

karen-phoenix   July 3rd, 2008 11:10 am ET

NO NO NO NO!!!!! NO MORE BUSHS!!!

Peg   July 3rd, 2008 11:08 am ET

He won't pick Jeb for VP, just wants to have him help him win the state.

The REAL PROBLEM

What if?   July 3rd, 2008 11:07 am ET

McBush 3 said he is waiting until Obama announce his pick for VP, then he will make his announcement. Can't McBush 3 do anything without following the lead of Obama, or sharing the White House with the Bush’s clan in his sight?

Jim   July 3rd, 2008 11:07 am ET

I'm supporting McCain too after what they did to Hillary.

Maybe the Repugs can continue to win elections by screwing up Florida again.

Man on the Street   July 3rd, 2008 11:07 am ET

Pat Riot   July 3rd, 2008 11:05 am ET

I don't agree with Jeb's foreign policy (PNAC) but he was great for Florida. A praise worthy governor who kept his hands out of our pockets and protected our liberty.

AA   July 3rd, 2008 11:05 am ET

Jeb Bush was a "sun tan" governor. A governor with a sun tan who only would be governor in a state full of "sun tanned people" and south beach. He is stupid and doesn't have a brain in his head.

America needs Bush   July 3rd, 2008 11:04 am ET

I think McCain's wisdom will truly be evident when he picks a Bush as his running mate. Can you imagine a sound bite of the two "Hello voters! Look over there John, my brother GW is here to.....John..John?"
Continue the prosperity!
McCane/? in 08!

What if?   July 3rd, 2008 11:04 am ET

I wrote it once and I am here to write it again. Bush isn't fundraise for McBush with no IOU's attached....JED BUSH, the truth is slowly being revealed....stay tune more Bush chips to come............

Donna   July 3rd, 2008 11:03 am ET

I thought McFlip wanted to distance himself from Bush...that should mean ALL OF THEM..or did he forget he said that???

Charlotte   July 3rd, 2008 11:01 am ET

McCain is the most moderate republican in the senate. He has proven he can and will work with both sides to fix this mess. What has Obama done? He talks a good talk but what has he done? He doesn't even vote when he is present? I guess a No Vote is better then taking a stand. I don't trust Obama to fix anything. My gut tells me he is not the best choice for POTUS. I will write Hillary on my ballot in November, as will a lot of people I know.

New Day   July 3rd, 2008 11:00 am ET

If Jeb turns him down, I hear McCain is thinking of asking OJ next.

Jaime, Plantation FL   July 3rd, 2008 10:59 am ET

Bush won't be the VP. That plays too easily into the Democrat's hands. But Jeb is a much better politician than W ever was. He was able to deliver Florida to his brother despite Florida's preference for Gore. McCain will NEED Bush and Crist to help deliver the Cuban vote to keep Florida in contention.

It's a smart move to strategize with Jeb – since he's much more intelligent and savy than his brother.

But to reiterate, no he won't be the VP.

Marcus B   July 3rd, 2008 10:58 am ET

I DARE HIM TO PICK A BUSH AS VP! He would be laughed out of this campaign. I know Jeb Bush has experience delivering Florida though!

OBAMA/SEBELIUS!!!

Chuck   July 3rd, 2008 10:58 am ET

If there ever was a modern age of aristocracy, the Bush Family surely exempifies that age. That definitely is true of Prince Jeb Bush while Governor of Florida. He was a "let them eat cake" type of governor who didn't give a rat's behind for his state employees and millions of other Florida citizens. Big money and dirty tricks kept the Prince there for two terms just like his incompetent brother, King George.

Puzzlement Question: If there are more registered Democrats than Republicans in this country, why do we continue electing people like the Bushes for two terms????????

NoBushThirdTerm   July 3rd, 2008 10:57 am ET

Gee, I don't know... if I were Jeb Bush, I'd run the other way. Hanging with Bush or McBush doesn't do much for one's resume.

Young & Educated   July 3rd, 2008 10:57 am ET

McCain = Flip Flopper!
Repub, Democrat, Ind all say it because he has changed his positions more times than I change the cat litter!
First its No tax breaks for the rich Now Tax breaks!
First it was no to Offshore Drilling Now its Yes to drillin!
First it was yes im clueless on the Economy now he 'CLAIMS' knows all about the economy!
Maybe next election he might actually give the issues some thought and dont do things like vote "AGAINST" MLK day!
McLame is a J-O-K-E!

NoBushThirdTerm   July 3rd, 2008 10:56 am ET

Look for McCain to select Jeb Bush for VP... this gives even more weight to McCain's 4 years being another term for Bush... and it gives Jeb an add to his resume to run in 2012 or 2016.

Come'on American, say it with me... "No Bush Third Term!"

Tammy - KCMO   July 3rd, 2008 10:54 am ET

so is McCain planning on having him run for VP so they can try to have another Bush in office again? Making their plans for cooking the voting books in FL again this year?

Anonymous   July 3rd, 2008 10:54 am ET

Jeb Bush is a very sleazy person. You just get a bad vibe from him.

My Way   July 3rd, 2008 10:53 am ET

I’m glad the bitter Hillary supporters are going to vote for McCain. They must think, as do I, that women should NOT have the right to make decisions regarding their own bodies. Roe vs. Wade will be overturned! Can’t wait!

Read above comments for more prime examples of Obamite's intelligent posts. It doesn't take a genius to put "Mc" in front of words to make a point, kids. I regularly encourage everybody I know to read the comments on these forums to get an idea of what the Obama movement is really all about:

Take 1 part MTV, add hyper-race baiting, stir in a liberal portion of empty slogans, kneed in some no-so-cleverly disguised agism, and bake the steaming heap in the biased media. What do you get? Cake for the Obama sheep to eat. Go ahead and eat your cake kiddies. Your in for a big suprise when the adults vote this November.

Not Greg, NY   July 3rd, 2008 10:43 am ET

I just wish all of the Greg in NYs that threatened to leave the US if Bush beat Kerrey really would have left. Now we have more people threatening to leave should McCain win. You love this country so much that when its democratic process works, but not for your guy, you "threaten" to leave. Please don't let the border hit you in the backside on your way out.

But , as we all know, it is an idle statement.

TESAP   July 3rd, 2008 10:43 am ET

James in NY   July 3rd, 2008 10:36 am ET

Just what America wants and needs, another Bush in the White House. I think it would be great for Jeb to be the VP for McCain. Then Obama would legally be able to call John McCain/John McSame. He is not just 95% Bush but one hundered ninety five percent Bush.
Continue the prosperity America!

McCain doesn't need Jeb Bush – he will already win Florida handily. The demographics favor McCain and the Democrats destroyed alot of trust with the way they handled the Florida primary. No need for the Republicans to steal it this year.

I just wish CNN, who used to be my favorite news station would stop catering to Obama on every site. Obama is now trying to BE McCain–so he can't be all that bad! Lou Dobbs and Wolf, keep up the good work! (unbiased 2)

Power to the People = Former Repug   July 3rd, 2008 10:18 am ET

The McCain camp shakeup was yesterday and the hostage release photoup and advance knowledge took place in Columbia . Today he is in Mexico to pick Jeb as his Veepee. It looks like McCain's policies on the American people will be designed from abroad. We need our Prez to spend time fixing our probs here at home and not seeking foreign recognition in the face of domestic woes and 60000 losses in June.

hint hint.... he becomes the VP for 8 years, then the President for another 8. That's 16 years of Bushes again. As silly as that may sound, remember, President Bush, unlike Robert Mugabe and the idiot Musharraf, did not force himself to become one especially for the 2nd term! Our fellow Americans voted for him. So anything is possible. Eeeeeewwwww another 16 years of Bush family.
