(CNN) – Former President Bill Clinton thinks Barack Obama might have a chance to become the first Democrat to win Colorado since his own 1992 victory, the presumptive nominee told supporters at a fundraiser in the state Wednesday night.

The Illinois senator said that during their conversation earlier this week, the two men discussed the changing political landscape in the state, and several other electoral prizes in the West.

"I was talking to Bill Clinton this week. We were talking about Colorado," said Obama, according to a print pool report. "He said, when I ran the first time, it would have been tough to win if Ross Perot hadn't been in the race, but you've seen a seismic shift in attitudes here."

He told the crowd that he wasn't swayed by President Bush's wins in the state. "It may have been Woody Allen who said 90 percent of success is showing up," said Obama. "If I didn't show up, I wouldn't get many votes around here. If I did show up, I might get something going."

I am glad Bill Clinton is offering his advice to Barack. As an African American I was disappointed in some of the language that Bill was spouting during the primaries, but we all know he is not a racist and regardless of his past indiscretions he was a good President. I hope he continues to offer his advice and restore his legacy within the Democratic Party.

oil rules   July 3rd, 2008 2:36 pm ET

Of course it didn't take this article long to start talking about Bill and HIS win in Colorado, haha! Obama does not need the Clintons, he has enough blind followers to push him into office without their 'help'.

Maxine   July 3rd, 2008 2:32 pm ET

Be strong Obama keep going we have your back.

Don   July 3rd, 2008 2:30 pm ET

Again as i say Obama painted Bill as a racist and as a bad president when he is infact one of the best presidents America has had in a while, and now he is acting like all is cool with them. This man is full of it. My new slogan is everybody needs change, but before i jump on the bandwagon i desperately need someone to explain to me what chabge is and what would really change.

JOYCE   July 3rd, 2008 2:28 pm ET

Bama…you're going to need all of the illegal alien vote in that state and they have swarmed the whole state.. It's rocky mountain Los Angeles.

Kansasboy   July 3rd, 2008 2:00 pm ET

Totally has a chance to win Colorado. Obama just needs to step it up as McCain is about to do the same.

Obama or Bust   July 3rd, 2008 2:00 pm ET

Win Colorado! He can do it. With Colorado, Virgina, and Iowa, plus the states Kerry won, and he will win the election. He can still lose both Ohio and Florida, and even New Hampshire (won't happen) as long as he wins the three states above.

Tim Hutchins   July 3rd, 2008 2:00 pm ET

Bill Clinton added only chaos to Hillary's campaign. Why would BO think Bill would do better for him?

sherry for Obama   July 3rd, 2008 1:58 pm ET

If the good people of Colorado would really think about it……They would vote for Obama
Obama will bring us back from the deep pit Bush got us in

OBAMA 08

Saad from NJ   July 3rd, 2008 1:57 pm ET

All the above maybe true but so is the fact that after seeing what Bush administration did in the 1st four years, our fellow Americans elected him for another term. Based on that, we might have another republican administration governing us regardless of how much truth might be to the above article.

Linda from Prescott AZ   July 3rd, 2008 1:55 pm ET

Yes we can!

Marc PDX   July 3rd, 2008 1:53 pm ET

LOL! Clinton can't stand Obama. He'll play with him like a cat playing with a mouse. I bet old Bill had a good laugh after that conversation.

Joe Reed   July 3rd, 2008 1:50 pm ET

As a lifelong Republican I am dismayed by the behavior of my party over the last 8 years. This year I am voting for Barack Obama for President of the United States of America.

Yeah.

Like anybody believes anything that comes out of Clinton's mouth.

Colorado vote for a true American (McCain)!

Unless its Obama/Clinton08!

It's a No-Brainer
Obama is the clear choice!
Now the choice for VP is another important decision!
I can understand Obama cuz his primaries just ended but what's McCain waitin for?? Seems no one wants to run with him!

Bayou Joe   July 3rd, 2008 1:35 pm ET

You have go to be kidding me, Bill Clinton thinks he can win Colorado? In your dreams Barak. No Southwestern State will go with the Socialist agenda you are putting forth. We know you and will not vote for you. Colorado, Texas, Arizona, support real Americans that love our country more than themselves.
Go John McCain. A true Patriot, yesterday, today and tomorrow.

Gabriel   July 3rd, 2008 1:35 pm ET

Denver, CO does have the youngest median age in the U.S. Obama should do very well as long as young voters turn out to the polls in November

I think Obama can win Colorado, South Dakota, New Mexico, and Montana. I'd like to think he could somehow win Texas but that is going to be extremely difficult to pull off.

Vote Obama for President in November!

shame on the DNC   July 3rd, 2008 1:27 pm ET

Hey, who needs competition!

Do like Obama did - challenge all of the petitions so you are the only one on the ticket. It's that simple! That way, the people have no choice but to vote for you.

Change the Rules
Change your Stance
Change your Religion
Change your Close Friends
Change the Party

Change Obama can make you believe in! I believe it!

Cathy   July 3rd, 2008 1:24 pm ET

In my opinion, Obama has a chance to win in a lot of red states. The electoral map will look completely different his election and all mostly in BLUE!!!!

Well if Bill Clinton has said it, it must be true.

Obama plays the race card   July 3rd, 2008 1:05 pm ET

Every democrat I know- including my lifelong democratic voting family- is SORRY that Obama is our nominee.

We know this nomination was rigged and fixed.

We know that Hillary was screwed, hated, shafted and forced out of the race.

We know HRC is the true winner and the legitimate nominee of the party.

Obama remorse   July 3rd, 2008 1:03 pm ET

Only the Great Obama could possibly LOSE the election for the democrats.
inexperienced
unkown
no track record
no resume
no qualifications
pandering
a*s kissing to win votes
questionable friends and aquaintances
No specific platform- ever morphing.
Leftist pretending to run to the middle for political expediency.
Game playing opportunist.
Race baiting instigator of hate and division.

GOOD WORK DNC

Pol   July 3rd, 2008 1:01 pm ET

A chance of what? Clinton's opinions have hundreds of different interpretations. From "I did not have…." to …"Hillary is better qualified"..
Who cares what can say impeached Big Gold Mouth?

SIMP   July 3rd, 2008 1:01 pm ET

I'm still not getting all the hype about Bill and why people think Obama needs him. He was a good president but that was then and this is now. First of all I think his attitude the last few weeks speak for itself, he is still bitter because he wants to get back in the white house. If you ask me I would mend fences with the clintons but keep them as far away from the white house as possible, they are not trustworthy.

selected not elected   July 3rd, 2008 1:00 pm ET

We DEMS are truly stuck…

Republicans are not an option… and Obama is the least worthy of all the fine candidates our party had to offer.

This was a rigged, fixed election.

We DEMS must decide between party loyalty or being true to the principles of freedom, equality, fair campains, free elections and justice for all.

BAD CHOICE.

Obama did not win- he stole this nomination from HILLARY.

Dems are stuck in the fix they rigged   July 3rd, 2008 12:58 pm ET

In the land of the blind… the one-eyed man is King.

That is why the DNC chose to appease the African Americans and the newbies and installed the weakest, least electable, unqualified, inexperienced candidate- OVER the true leader with the most votes.

Go figure.

And I'm a lifelong democrat….struggling with voting for the party nominee, for the first time in my 35 year voting life.

Obama is not a legitimate candidate and that is what will haunt the democrats in NOV. His illigitamacy and lack of a track record and shift changing on his positions.

Bill is Right.   July 3rd, 2008 12:56 pm ET

Bill is right.

Obama will take Colorado and a bunch of other states where Dems previously had no chance … thanks Bush Inc. Novemebr will be the silver lining. Hopefully they won't drag us into Iran before then.

Still for Hill but now ONLY for Hill   July 3rd, 2008 12:55 pm ET

As the Obama supporters keep blogging- an Ape would be better than Bush. And, Obama could sleep walk his way into the white house, running against McCain.

So… I ask? Why is Obama doing so poorly?

This is the year no democrat can lose, right?

And the year no republican can win, right?

Yet Obama is such a weak, unqualified, inexperienced, questionable candidate, that the democrats MAY NOT win.

That is what happens when one steals the nomination from the better qualified, legally voted for, candidate.

Bring back Hillary and watch the Democrats soar.

Abby   July 3rd, 2008 12:55 pm ET

Funny how NOW obama will USE Bill Clinton - all for his political gain. What about that Racist problem you seemed to have with Bill - oh - that was yet another "mistake". obama is a FRAUD - he uses people for his political gain - then trhows them out!!!!

Rev. Wright, his grandmother, Clark, staff members …… who next??

TEXAS FOR OBAMA   July 3rd, 2008 12:54 pm ET

Barack Obama is going to be one of our greatest Presidents' ever. This is going to be a land slide election or the Democrates.

Go Hillary   July 3rd, 2008 12:54 pm ET

The only way he will win ANYTHING is with Hillary by his side !

still for Hill   July 3rd, 2008 12:50 pm ET

Would not be a concern if we democrats has gone with the duly elected by the people candidate.

Instead we decided that we could risk appeasing the African Americans and the youth, since there is no way the democrats could lose in this political climate.

Even with the Country in such a republican hate mood and in such a state of decay, Obama is having problems convincing the people.

It should be a done deal for the democrats by now. We installed the wrong candidate. Hillary won fair and square- Obama cheated and stole the nomination with his dirty tricks and race baiting and dividing the democrats.

The wrong nominee   July 3rd, 2008 12:47 pm ET

Surprised?

In a year where no democrat can lose and no republican can win- the democrats installed such a loser- that we even have to discuss and worry about a possible loss.

The DNC thought that this year they could force their left wing agenda on the people since the people would vote for ANY democrat- even the least qualified and least trustworthy and most pandering, and unprincipled one of them all.

SHAME ON THE DNC- and Pelosi and Dean- and the media that ccreated this travesty of justice.

fixed for Obama   July 3rd, 2008 12:45 pm ET

The democrats would not have to worry at all this election year if the DNC had not chosen and installed as the nominee the least qqualified, totally inexperience, do-nothing, big boaster, radical, racist and basically unelectable (In any other year when the Country was willing to consider a republican) nominee.

Obama is much further behind at this point than he should be as a democrat running in a year where EVERYone hates the current Republican admin and is eager to change reins over to the DEMS.

Why is Obama doing so poorly?

He was not elected by the people- he was forced in as the nominee by Oprah, Caroline, Maria, Ted, Michael Moore, the media, Pelosi, Dean, Reid and the superdelegates.

Shame on the democratic party ofr abandoning its principles and ideals and fixing an election.

TangoDancer   July 3rd, 2008 12:43 pm ET

The changing political landscape or population demographics in the western USA really is fascinating. There could be many reasons for this "seismic shift in attitudes" - I like the way that sounds. Perhaps there has been a shift in attitudes. I personally believe that much of this change is due to the changing population of the west with large scale migration of Californians and people from other states that bring different perspectives and political attitudes to the region. I may be wrong, but it's a thought that is at least worth entertaining as poly-sci experts try to figure out what is happening to actually cause such shifts in political attitudes and party identification in this region.

vick   July 3rd, 2008 12:42 pm ET

yes! obama 08

Phantom of the Oprah   July 3rd, 2008 12:41 pm ET

But any GOOD, legitimate democrat- who won fair and square should be WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY out ahead by now.

Look at the facts: The current president has the lowest approval ratings ever, the republican brand is out of favor, the democrats are a shoe in, the economy is tanking fast, the Iraq war has become unpopular…on and on.

AND STILL, THIS SELECTED NOT ELECTED EXCUSE FOR A CANDIDATE IS STRUGGLING.

The DNC backed and supported and bet on the wrong horse. Only Obama could pull off a NOV LOSS.

Bring back Hillary.

P.U.M.A   July 3rd, 2008 12:38 pm ET

The country is in such a bad way that even the WORST democratic candidate of them all, stands a chance.

It is times like these that give radical dictators the foot in to turn the country into a socialist state.

People won't vote republican this year- no matter what- that leaves the democrat….poor alternative that he is.

Folks, lets just not pretend that it is anything else. Obama is a typical, pandering, flip-flopping dirty politician- with the added self-importance and full of himself qualities that turn ME off.

sir magneto   July 3rd, 2008 12:36 pm ET

you need to reread the headline and fix it

I really liked this post   July 3rd, 2008 12:35 pm ET

I think this blogger said it well and it bears repeating.

Obama is the least electable democratic candidate, in a year when a democrat can NOT lose the election.

That is why the DNC and the left wingers worked SO hard to install him as nominee. EVEN an unqualified, ineperienced left wing socialist radical elitist has a running chance in today's political climate.

It was NOW or never for Obama- a country that is in such a bad way that even the worst democrat appears to be better to many people than the best republican.

Winning by default- that is the Obama way since he has no merits and no track record.

Although imagine that EVEN in a can't lose election year for democrats, Obama is struggling to gain an edge. And in a can't win election year for Republicans, McCain is holding his own.

That is what happens when you install the least qualified, inexperience, do-nothing democratic candidate by playing the race card.

Obama has become an oversold, inflated and underserved candidate who amoutns to nothing more than a media promotion thanks to Oprah and male dominated and owned media groups who hijacked Hillary Clinton's nomination by their skewed reporting. Restore Hillary Clinton's legitimate candidacy and reject Obama. Write her in on the November ballot. Just say no to the status quo. Bill Clinton should stop supporting Obama because of Hillary's mistreatment and because Obama was the beneficiary of that degradation.

You need to do more then just "Show UP"!

We (Hispanics) haven't heard or seen anything yet that has us convinced that you are close to being qualified for our highest office.

You are going to have to convince us that we can trust you and that you have good judgment.

We are not there yet!

An unknow black man from Canada help blogged 4 Obama since primary.   July 3rd, 2008 12:13 pm ET

Yes we can.

Yes we can win when you put your mind into it.

Yes we can win every state when you compete speak the truth about how to get things down when you become the President.

Yes we can win, when you have all the tools you need, right staff and right words at the right time.

Yes we can win and win big when you are honest with people.

It may not be easy, but we have to create new idea because America is the leader of the free world. We can turn water into driving vehicle.

On like Mccain:

MCCAIN CAN NOT KEEP HIS CAMPAIGN'S MEMBERS' PERMANENT.

HOW WOULD YOU CREATE JOB WHEN YOU HAVE FIRED YOUR EMPLOYEES 2 TIMES IN 9 MONTHS?

THEY NEED JOB TO SUPPORT THEIR CHILDREN AND PAY UP THEIR DEBT.

MCCAIN IS NOT QUALIFY TO RUN THIS COUNTRY. HE WILL FIRED PEOPLE EVERY 8 MONTHS.

Obama says Bill says….CNN vet the candidates, and do YOUR OWN investigative journalism….the article above would be termed as NON-Journalism at its' finest!

Prove them all wrong. The definition of conservative is someone who likes the traditional ways of doing things, the old ways of doing things. Look it up. Show them that there political traditions can and will be broken for the better of America. The neo-cons want to play the old dirty traditional GOP dirty games. We'll show them that it won't work this time around.

Obama/Clinton '08   July 3rd, 2008 12:09 pm ET

Bill and Hillary understand the importance of ending right-wing Republican rule of our White House.

It is clear the Clintons are going to do all they can to ensure Senator Obama is elected.
