Schwarzenegger offers aid to wildfire victims

Schwarzenegger is seeking to speed up the recovery process.

(CNN) – California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has signed an executive order to speed up the recovery process for victims of the wildfires that have scorched a large part of the state.

At a news conference in Big Sur on Wednesday, Schwarzenegger commended both the work of the firefighting crews and the 40 states providing support, but said relief efforts will need to continue long after the blazes are contained.

"Putting out the fires is only part of the battle - helping people put their lives back together is just as important," he said. "The cooperation has been fantastic and I am glad to see federal support because we are likely to face many more challenges in the months ahead."

Under the executive order, replacement fees for birth certificates, driver's licenses and other critical documents will be waived. In addition, the governor will ask the Franchise Tax Board and the State Board of Equalization to assist fire victims with filing tax extensions and obtaining relief from
late penalties and assessments.

Arnie Arnie....where are your Reflipigan buddies?....

Did you call Bush/Cheney/McWar/ Lieberman for help?

Pull out all the stops, I'm sure there must be money from GWB coming your way....SINCE YOUR STATE IS BANKRUPT, due to your incompetance.

Can this RETARD even spell his own last name? The fact that he is a governor says a lot about the state of California. One word in particular comes to mind...SUPERFICIAL! This idiot has no qualifications whatsoever. California is now months away from being broke and the ONLY thing the "Terminator" can think of is to add a 30% tax on the porn industry.

You're brilliant Arnold, just brilliant! Of course this statement is facetiousness at its BEST!!!

Good job. Now, when will you sign the budget for the fiscal year that began July 1st? The budget work should have been done weeks ago and ready on day 1 so there is no break in services and funding. The State Constitution mandates a balanced budget, so where is it?

Schwarzenegger's a good guy. He's loyal to his party, but he has morals. Powell's another great Republican.

Nice gesture and he seem to care. Of course if they utilized good management and foresty practices with controlled burns, this would not have ben so bad....

    Obama/Schwarzenegger 2008!

Well.. gotta say.. I didn't really like Arnold's first term as governor.. but I think he's done a better job in his second term.

Anyone seen Demolition Man? Get ready... Nostradomus eat your heart out... so far that movie is more accurate in predicting Arnold's political future :)

Now this is a Republican that I can believe in. "Helping people"

"Helping people" We don't hear this very often from members of the GOP community. It's usually the "I got mine, to heck with everyone else" the "Why should I help?" or the "I worked hard to get where I am today why can't everyone else do it?

He is the only republican I like so far! He is loyal to his party but will not be afraid to firmly disagree if it goes against his state's wish's, such as the oil drilling which he made clear he disagree's with Mccain on. He's a good man with a clear head on his shoulder.
