Regarding Bush and the protesters:

As much as I despise this demented freak of nature, I know that he too loves this country dearly. He can't differentiate the country from the symbols, the constitution from corporatocracy , but I think somewhere in the part of his brain which has not degenerated to reptilian, he may have a vestigial sense of 'us'. That wee little bit was speaking to those new citizens, welcoming them to our beloved shores, presenting the open arms we all spread.

As a welcomer, he represented us all. I don't care what level of retard he is, he was my doorman to greet these new members of our society.

To mar this occasion with protests against the man when he was trying his best to be the greeter for the nation is inexcusable.

Where on Earth has our sense of decency and decorum gone? A republic as old as ours should be able to display a little grace, particularly on occasions such as this.

Is this too difficult a concept for people to grasp? That regardless of what one may think of the messenger, it's the message he's carrying that counts.

From what I've read, Bush responded that the newcomers were experiencing America's free speech firsthand. Then the free speechers were hauled away in handcuffs. Oh, my Sweet Flaming Jesus, what has become of us.

Not only should these citizens have been removed for disrupting a presidential speech, but heckling the president while he is giving a 4th of July speech is outright unpatriotic. Protesting would be a good way to exercise freedom of speech, not slandering America's leader from the crowd on independence day.

By expressing their "right to free speech" in this manner the hecklers were infringing upon that of President Bush which is why they were removed. I have yet to see a story about how the secret service is stopping public gatherings critical of the President so no one has actually lost their freedom of speech.

While I disagree with such rudeness, it seems that today, our politicians offer the common citizen very few opportunities to really be heard. If they have taken a position, they seem to ignore poll numbers that are in strong disagreement... and they rationalize their positions with explanations that leadership sometimes means moving against the tide.

However, there are majore concerns such as balancing a budget, or the trillions of dollars of money owed to social security and the looming federal pensions and medicare.

Is there no way for our leaders to stop running for office constantly, establishing their legacies, and finding ways to spend tax money back in the areas where the votes are counted?

It is unfortunate that people are not respectful of the president...especially on the 4th of July. But it is even more unfortunate that our politicians often to not tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth to the American citizens. Lacking that level of trust, it is not surprising that people begin to take freedom into their own hands. As the politicians often tell the media, the public is collectively very aware. And has been patient until recently. Now when they begin to speak up, our elected officials should begin to listen or the voices will get louder until they do.

The congress won't impeach him because they would have to impeach themselves if they did. So before claiming that Bush has run the counrtry into the ground, or this is some GOP master plan, remember that the DNC has had their hand and most of their upper body stuck in a lot of the stuff that's gone on.

I'm saddened by this highly polarized discussion. I think I would be happy with either Obama or McCain. The silly noname McSame cannot be logically applied to McCain given his history–he is anything but the same as Bush, even though some of his policy choices are similar. With respect to freedom of speech, these protesters were not following an orderly, logical, or respectable method of dissent. If Obama or McCain had to respond to every heckler the way some of the above comments suggest Bush should have done, they would have no opportunity to discuss their preferred policy. It is true that President Bush is not the favorite president of many Americans. I myself did not vote for him.

However, there are many venues that the President attends that are more appropriate for this type of protest. These nine new citizens didn't deserve to have a wonderful event marred by the thoughtlessness of these protesters.

While many may not disagree with the sentiment of the protest, the lack of civility to both the new citizens and their families in attendance is inappropriate. First, it was the protests at the soldiers' funerals and now this.

For each of you saying Obama hasn't changed his position I ask you to remember how he mocked Hillary. Obama said her Iraq position of having a measured safe withdraw by not committing to a specific timeline was wrong. Seems he now is saying Hillary was right, and he was wrong. Face it folks you were blinded by his rock star show ignoring his inexperience and his past relationships. Each of you kept giving him the benefit of the doubt, just like so many did for Bush and look where that got us.

Well, they do have a point. This is the president (and lets not forget the vice president also) who gave the thumbs up to torture.
