Campaign trail: This week's agenda

CNN

Watch as CNN's Paul Steinhauser takes a look at what's happening this week on the campaign trail.

WASHINGTON (CNN) - Sens. John McCain and Barack Obama have a busy week ahead as they court voters across the country.

Both candidates are making their pitch to a top Latino organization in Washington on Tuesday. This week also finds McCain pushing his plan to create new jobs. He'll be touting his proposal in some of the key battleground states.

Obama starts his week in two red states he hopes to turn blue - Georgia and North Carolina. Later in the week, he'll team up with Hillary Clinton for three fundraisers in New York, an Obama spokeswoman said.

Two of the fundraisers are aimed at raising money for Obama's Democratic presidential campaign, and one to try to retire the debt from Clinton's failed effort to win the nomination.

Jenna Bush, the prez's daughter said she isn't voting for John McCain. Interesting, very interesting.

CNN try to be a little less biased here. McCain gets 2 1/2 sentences and Obama gets three paragraphs?

What ever happened to reporting the news?

You mean McCain is going to work a few days this week? Maybe they increased the dosage of 8-9 of his medications so he can actually campaign in his home country for a change.

Isn't it great John McCain finally remembered he should be campaigning in the U.S. and the people in Canada, Columbia and Mexico for the most part won't be voting in November.

The hateful supporters of Barack Obama are like a 24/7 negative campaign ad for him.

The more we see, hear and read their bigoted and narrowminded hatred for any American who disagrees with them- the more we veer away from Obama.

How can one candidate inspire so many hateful and vitriolic followers?

Obama is starting the week in Georgia and North Carolina because he knows that he's in serious trouble. He knows that he's going to lose Ohio or Pennsylvania, or both. And he'll probably lose West Virginia and Kentucky, too. And Michigan and Florida may not go his way, either. So unless he can find a way to turn three or four "red" states blue, how can he get the electoral votes he needs in November? He's starting the week in Georgia and North Carolina out of desperation.

Of course, there's a better question: Why didn't he work harder to build a real coalition among Democrats during the nomination process rather than go around to the caucus states to collect delegates so he could sleaze off with the nomination that he did not earn and does not deserve?

The answer: With his lack of qualifications, he couldn't.

  10. What if?

I know you are not going to list my question CNN, but I am going to give it a TRY anyway……

Reference to this article, it’s states that McCain is going to be pushing his plan to create new jobs in key battleground states. My question is why didn’t McCain implement his create new jobs plan within his wife company to help the hundreds of employee’s that are losing their jobs with her company, continue to be employed? This would have been a better, promising way to prove to us, the voters, that his create new job plan will be as successful as he will say during his speeches from city to city.

I look forward to someone sharing their thoughts concerning my question.

  13. God is watching you

I am amazed by the relentless hypocrisy of the avid Obama supporters....
They think the over 60 crowd is racist. But who do THEY think marched against the Viet Nam war, walked with MLK, marched down 5th ave for Women's rights, campaigned for Shirley Chisholm, fought for Roe vs Wade and worked to secure Civil rights? Certainly not the Under 50 crowd.

And who is name-calling, debasing, denigrating, demeaning and insulting fellow Americans 24 hours a day on these internet blogs? Certainly not the Over 50 crowd.

You fill up these blogs with hateful, bigotry: waiting for the Old folks to die, Hate Bush, Hate the direction of America, Hate HRC, Hate Bill Clinton and the Clinton years, Hate McCain, Hate the supporters of ANY candidate but Obama. HATE HATE HATE. What good can come of so much anger and antipathy against your fellow Americans?

To you, everyone is ignorant, stupid, moronic, inbred, redneck, uninformed, uneducated, racist, trash- but yourselves.

Then Obama gives a speech... and you all gush with how inspired you are, how you feel you can move mountains, how eager you all are to serve fellow Americans.

Then 5 minutes later you are back to moving just your mouth with the hateful blogs again.

Never has any demographic "group" who advocated hope, unity, change and even diplomatic dialogue with our International enemies been this close minded, filthy, obscene and antagonistic towards those who don't concur with their life view.

Ironically, from the poor grammer, spelling, syntax and format of your posts- you are neither educated or informed.

When did the left become this bigoted? When did the democrats become so UNdemocratic? When did the DEMS lose their ideology of equality and justice for all?

Word to the wise- your strategy of forcing your views and opinions on others by nasty, name-calling, debasing insults and hate- is ACTUALLY LOSING VOTES FOR OBAMA.

Wait and see what rewards a philosophy of division and hate brings to you.

  16. Propaganda IS Obama

People need o wise up to the dirty politician that the guy from Chicago brings to us.

    Stand up...be counted.

Vote your conscience. A vote for Obama is a vote to approve all the corruption of the democratic primary... all the lies, hate, bias, filth, degradation of fellow democrats, sexism etc... that we all deplored.

Remember: Old people suck, Latinos are stupid and uneducated, women bitter old B**ches, Puerto Ricans don't count at all.... that was the previous message from Obama.

Do not NOW capitulate to this divisive hating campaigner and his cult following.

Choose ANY other Candidate: Cynthia McKinney, Ralph Nader, John McCain.

POUND THE MESSAGE HOME, THAT WE WANT OUR HIJACKED DEMOCRACY AND PARTY BACK.

We work for justice and to return fair campaigns and equality to our once Democratic party.

HOW DO YOU LIKE US NOW?

    July 6, 2008 12:26 pm at 12:26 pm |
  19. A house divided

Well, Obama decided to bring black voters over to him from HRC- Michelle told us to watch and see- so it sounds like they did INDEED intend to play the race card early in the primary. They decided the recklessness and division was worth it just to gain himself a small, early lead.

Now it is a divided party and Obama was too sure of himself in thinking he was so charming that he could bring the democratic base back- after all, we ALWAYS support the party nominee, After all we are the people who WORKED for Civil rights, We are NOT racist and always support our party.

Sorry... but Obama was so ugly in his campaign... that he succeeded in alienating the life long democratic base with his lies, mockery, smug arrogant forcefulness and certitude.

We TRUE DEMS never vote for unqualified, inexperienced, cocky, boastful, swaggering, self-centered, self-impressed, full of themselves candidates.

That is why we did NOT vote for Bush TWICE- we won't vote for Obama either. Race nor Gender is the issue. Character and style and track records are the issues.

  20. selected not elected

Cocky, hypocritcal Obama is losing steam....
Wait ...wasn't he already limping and losing ground to Hillary later in the primary. Hadn't his shine already started to tarnish?

Yet, in their warped wisdom, the party installed HIM as nominee.

Go figure... select the limping, flagging candidate over the one who found her voice and was soaring.

  21. Wolf in sheeps clothing

People... in choosing the lesser of two evils... think clearly.

Things are not always what they seem.

Nice packages are not always... well, nice.

Trust your instincts on the CHATRACTER of the man- not the marketing, not who runs the BEST campain.

That is how we let Hillary slip away and we got stuck with the lesser leader.

Obama is starting the week in Georgia and North Carolina, eh? Now why would he do that? Maybe it's because he knows that he's going to lose Ohio or Pennsylvania (or both), because he knows that he'll probably lose West Virginia and Kentucky, and because he knows that Michigan and Florida may not go his way, either.

He's starting the week in Georgia and North Carolina because he knows that he's in serious trouble and is desperately hoping for a miracle.

Why didn't he just work harder during the nomination process to build a real coalition among Democrats rather than go around to the caucus states to collect delegates and sleaze off with the nomination that he did not earn and does not deserve?

Well, with his serious lack of qualifications and character flaws, he couldn't.

  23. Phantom of the Oprah

    Who cares?

The Oprah, the media and the 12% of America that is black is demanding that Obama be president.

No experience, no qualifications, 10 years of perpetual campaigning, no merits, dirty politics, a divisive uniter...

But who cares? He is (half) black and that is what counts.

Do it or else! That is how Obama stole the democratic nomination from the ever more qualified and better candidate.

The DNC sure does know how to lose an election. Sorry Obama but we are not going to get over the fact that you're not qualified to become the next President.
