Eric from PA,

He (Obama) is both. A typical pol not qualified for the job of President.
Also Obama backers keep bringing up the same old tired charges of their man being above the fray when he was running against Hillary but now he is going to answer promptly any charge from MCCain, so much for keeping himself " clean" , second tired charge is that MCCain is going to keep troops in Iraq for a hundred years. Can these people read? They claim to be " highly educated", I suppose they mean they graduated from high school?

As far as I can tell Obama has not changed his position that going to war with Iraq was the wrong policy and that we need to bring the troops home as soon as possible. The only change that I believe that Obama is saying is that the troops may have to brought home slower than he originally planned to do. You can not just bring troops out that is irresponsible because you could get them killed. If you bring them out too quickly and the situation in Iraq becomes total chaos, then many U.S. soldier would get killed. A good leader will their plan when situations change. I believe Obama is adjusting to the situation now .

It is ironic that Obama supporters decry the Bush/Cheney attack politics and yet call John Mccain abusive names all in the same sentence. Whatever your policy disagreements, how can you use such abusive language against someone who has sacrificed so much for his country.

what are you people talking about? we all knew thw day had to come when obama would back pedal - his position was he was going to pull all of the troops out according to the 16 month time table to force the iraqi's to deal with their own problems. anyone who knows anything knows that it wasn';t going to work that way - obama won't get us out of this war any quicker than mccain.

i don't have a preference, but come on people, it won't kill you to admit that obama took his initial position to get primary votes and now he's being more realistic to get GE votes.

and stop saying that mccain wants to be at war for 100 years. that's a blatant distortion of what he said. obama can't change anything; he's reliant on congress and no one person can change washington.

McCain's Campaign groups are just make up lies after lies no truthful words out of thei mouths. Sen. Obama never backs away from his stance on the troops withdrawal from Iraq. People remember that that's the main thing on his stance. He is still insist on withdrawing from Iraq no question about that. The big question is that, when will the McCain campaign stop attacking Sen. Barack Obama with their twisted and smear negative talks???? Answer this in a positive way we're tired of the old politics these people are still playing now a days.

Remember that Hillary Clinton said McCain was more qualifed to be Commander and Chief than Obama. Furthermore, last week on Drudge, Harry Ried said that oil and coal are making Americans sick. Moreover, Obama said current gas prices are fine. Yet in 2006, democrates were elected as a majority in the house and senate because they promised lower gas prices which were $2.50 a gallon at that time.
In regards to Iraq, most of the terrorists in that region are fighting in Iraq. Some may argue that Iraq is costing American lives which is true in any armed conflict. But merely driving your car on the freeway costs over 20,000 American lives each year.
Lastly, Obama has said that he would debate McCain anytime and anywhere. After reflecting on his inexperience with a multitude of issues facing our country, he now has limited his debates with McCain to two.

Look at McCain's picture. He is a mean spirited, cold hearted, hot headed, nasty old man. He showed no affection to Cindy - He doesn't even help her off HER plane. He is never with his children.

McCain just wants to fight wars. He wants to leave our military in Iraq for 50 - 100 years. He knows nothing about the economy. He said so himself. He wants to reck our health care system. Joe Lieberman has to travel with him to correct him when he gives a speech. The Republican's made a terrible mistake making him their nominee.

16 months was not a good line to sell. Changing positions will not help our country's economic strength. There is no room for second guessing. He has to be precise. No place for trial and error. The world relies on the US to come up with the answer. McCain will deliver what other Presidents couldn't in the Middle East. He's military and political career will allow him to do so. He doesn't need to have a "funny name".

I would question Obama's judgement if he started withdrawing troops without talking to Generals in the field. Remember Bush got into us this quagmire because he refused to listen to generals - remember Gen. Shenseki told bush he didn't have enough troops in Iraq- He got fired for that. The surge was was 3-4 years too late. Now McCain wants to take credit for this mess.
I have seen leaders commit blunders, run good things into the ground because they think they are jacks of all trades.
It is wise to talk to those whose daily lives revolve around fighting the war. The Rebubs need to stick to the issues. I would stand opposed to Obama if he did not have a refined plan for withdrawal.

I don't really see the story here. Anybody that has been paying attention to Obama knows that he has never said anything except change and hope and repeated what HIllary said. Darn its hard to get a story and stick with it when you don't have hillary clinton saying it first so you can follow her and then holler hope and change. What a man , what a man. Too bad his brain is not as big as his ears. He might be able to figure something out on his own.

How is making a judgment call based on realistic information a flip flop or going back on your word. Obama has a base plan.. a steady withdrawal over 16 months. But of course... the situation on the ground may dictate that it happens slower or faster.

At least Obama is trying to lead with his eyes open... unlike McCain... visiting a green zone, saying everything's great... and even though it's great... we're gonna stay there forever.

Amy, you are either a Chaos member stirring up trouble, or you should be barred from making blog comments because of your stupidity! Hillary is not coming back - she will not be trying to take over the party at the convention - she will continue to support and campaign for Obama, as will her husband. This is politics for big boys and girls now - stop the Hillary BS.

McCain is constantly stating Obama said this or said that. Why doesn't McCain take a stance on something instead of trying to disprove every little thing Obama says. I think McCain is obsessed with Obama. He can't even think straight. He continues to show his temper at many questions asked about his service in Viet Num. If he is running on his service record, it is understandable to ask what he did there to give him the opportunity to be commander and chief. He doesn't need to get mad about that. I think it is a legitimate question that needs to be answered instead of getting mad about it.

You know who the real sleeze bags in all this are. The media people.

CNN started this crap Wednesday! BEFORE Obama supposedly changed his position! Oh course the other networks ran with it and McLame was cheering them on. Don't you know that McCain has a new "special" section in his plane for reporters who are willing to spread the rhetoric. I'm sure Jessica Yellin is right up front.

People are so gullible!

I am a republican who cannot vote for McCain. He has not proven to me that he can make decisions on his own. What scares me is that he is 95% pro-Bush. How can you makes changes if you want to keep in place the same things that have driven this country into the ground. If McCain gets into office we will fall to a third world country status. McCain should be campaign here in the US, not in Canada, Mexico, and Columbia, South America, and Iraq. Maybe he should run for President in one of those countries listed above. I ask that you democrats, independents, and republicans please vote for someone other than McCain. Please do this for a disabled combat Marine Corps veteran who loves this country more than you know.

All you Hillary idiots need to get a clue and just give it up already!! You're pathetic and just about as stupid as those clowns in the GOP. Good grief, your girl ran a pitiful campaign and paid the price...SHE LOST!!!!!!!!!!! And the reason she lost is mainly because she surrounded herself with knuckle heads who were totally deluded, greedy and didn't have a clue. Imagine introducing her as "the next president of this country" on the night when the last nail had been hammered into her presidential aspirations on June 4th. Delusional at best, psychotic is a much better description. Get with the program already and stop the pathetic whining.

Now as for McSame criticizing Obama, it's laughable at best. Like they say, The John McCain of 2000 would NOT vote for this broken down, Bush clone even if someone put a gun to his head. Let's be real folks. Obama is going to win this election by a landslide in November. Get on the bus, but please please PLEASE STOP the WHINING!!! You're making my ears bleed and cracking me up at the same time.

Now run tell that.

It is too bad that John McCain doesn't apply the same scrutiny to what his bff George Bush says. McCain needs to ask why is our current U.S. president afraid to take a public stand against China's human-rights policies.

John McCain believes that Jimmy Carter was a terrible president, but at least Carter had the guts to stand up to the Soviet Union's invasion of Afghanistan and boycott the Moscow Olympics.

Pretty hypocritical of McCain to pretend like Obama's flip flopping.

Obama will get us out of this mess that McCain loves to defend. He just wants to be practical about it.

McCain knows the people are much more with Obama on the issues, including the war. So McCain has to make Obama out to have character issues in order to get ahead. McCain knows that the media laps up everything he says and that this is his chance at winning. I hope the American people don't fall for the media/GOP smears again this election year; how did that work out the last two presidential elections again?

McCain you are a moron, holy try to make a mountain out of a mole hill. Obama has a very common sense perspective, get out as soon as safely possible, obviously one cannot commit to an exact exit date as who knows how much worse McCain and Bush will make things prior to the fall.

The "relative" peace at this time is completely artificial as the various sects are playing games with the US and Iraqi government at present. McCain and Bush's Iraq strategy has been an unmitigated disaster, kick the Rebulicans out before even more soldiers and innocent civilians die and the economy goes even further down the toilet.

This is disgusting on the part of McCain. If you truly had been reading Obama's plan, listening to his speeches and following his campaign you would see he has not changed position. He has always, always said he would listen to the best possible advice to make the best possible decisions. He is not afraid to lead and leadership demands reacting to ever changing information. He has held strong to his positions. Many have not been paying attention, including Senator McCain.

In 2006 Senator Obama said, "We must exit Iraq, but not in a way that leaves behind a security vacuum filled with terrorism, chaos, ethnic cleansing and genocide that could engulf large swaths of the Middle East and endanger America…We have both moral and
national security reasons to manage our exit in a responsible way.” [Charleston Gazette, 9/26/06]

This is very much in line with what Obama is saying today. This GOP ugly, dishonest game plan will not work. Go Obama!

Amy:

Give it a rest, the choice has bee made, there is no political will to change it. Senator Clinton is loved and she would have made an outstanding President but the reality is Obama is the nominee. She understands the political reality, she understand her place in the party and what fighting at the convention would do to the party.

This is not about one person, Senator Clinton as well as Senator Obama understand this. Why can't some of her supporters stop and look at the big picture. I supported her during the primaries, I also supported Obama, either of them are far better than McCain. The primary is over, Senator Clinton is not going to risk fracturing the party for her own personal gain. Stop asking her to commit political suicide, you are not being fair to her, she deserves more respect than some of her supporters are giving her.

McCain has surrounded himself with Karl Rovian congenital liars. Sorry John. You just don't have the judgment to surround yourself with good people. They are leading you down the wrong path. You are supposed to be the leader. What happened to you?

I think that McCain is trying to create an issue where there isn't one. Just because someone *says* someone else is doing something, doesn't make it true!

@ Wisconsin 16:17

Don't waste your time. First mistake... you are using logic to argue with individuals who clearly are not capable. They will not vote for Obama under any cirmstance. He is a bit too cerebral and "uppity "for them.

They are the same individuals who view events in terms of either black or white...not understanding that as circumstances change, one may have to adjust positions a bit. They have the same mind set as our current president.

If memory serves correct...President Bush has never been accused of being a "flip-flopper". Obama should consider it a compliment, and move on.

Dare I say, Obama is not the candidate most of these individuals want to have a beer with.

One more reason to vote for him in November.

While Senator Obama continues to refine his message to the people his opponent continues to be steadfast in his lies!

John McCain continues to be like G.W. Bush in content but, wants to "sound like" an independent in his press releases.

This country can't stand another republican term!

So Obama is only ahead by a few points. That is much better than expected for someone with his level of experience. most people with his level of experience would not even have won the primary race let alone be slightly ahead of the current opponent.

You would think objective journalists (which in this election is largely an oxymoron) would understand the difference between "refine" and "change". Perhaps a visit to the dictionary would be in order before you jump to repeat McCain's talking points.

Just like in the Democratic primaries, anything to cause controversy to keep the ratings going. So much for a free press..

Hillary supporters: get over it...she lost and she isn't coming back!! She would be receiving the same treatment from both the McCain campaign and the press...
