The republicans had control of the entire government for 6 of the last 7 years. WHY DIDN'T THEY PUSH DRILLING THEN....?

(answer: because they don't WANT to drill)... its expensive, there are no barges to carry the oil, there are no refineries.. (and why haven't the oil companies built any new refineries)...

America needs to move forward to energy independence and a greener enviroment. Sooner or later, all combustion sources will have to be outlawed. The sonner we start down that path the better.

There are several parts–watch them all. It was shown at Sundance in 2006 and also on PBS. There was a good electric car made in the 90's that people really liked, but the car companies and oil companies squashed it–literally. The testers wanted to buy the cars but were not allowed to. Bush, Cheney, and other Republicans are mentioned for their roll in silencing it so they could continue to make big oil profits.

If that car was that good then, and had been refined and improved all this time, we wouldn't be in this situation.

Any credible analyst will tell you that the market will react immediately to the announcement that we are drilling, which makes Obama's contention that it will do nothing for 7 years entirely irrelevant. Then again nobody ever accused Democrats of understanding economics.

It's time to do offshore drilling and go to ANWR. The offshore platforms would not be seen from land. As for ANWR, the size of the drilling and pumping station in the vast ANWR would be the equivalent of a postage stamp in the middle of a football field, and confined to ANWR's coastal plain, which is relatively bare. As in all places where we drill, responsibility and safety of the surrounding environment would have to be primary.

We need other energy options, but while these are being developed we also need a continuing supply of oil. I, for one, would like to see it come from our own sources and not from the Middle East. Those folks over there have us over a barrel (literally and figuratively speaking) and they sure know it....and milk it for all it's worth.

That would be like me saying O'Jackson. Obama and Jesse Jackson are not the same, so why compare Bush and McCain? If you knew anything about McCain you would know that for years he has been the most liberal Republican out there. That means MIDDLE. DUH. Not far left wing like O'Jackson.

You're an ignorant fool. Hydroelectric (hoover dam anyone), solar, geothermal, and tidal are left. I'm not opposed to nuclear power, but don't be a liar and act like oil, coal, and nuclear are our only options. If we use all the solar we can, all the hydro we can, all the tidal we can, and all the geothermal that we can, and limit nuclear to the areas that don't have access to any of the above, we can go a whole lot further with a whole lot less.

If we stick to coal, we run out of coal, while doing an amazing amount of damage to the environment we live in. It's your environment too, it's in your best interest to keep it nice. If we use nuclear energy excessively, you've got lovely targets for terrorists, and what do you do with all those spent nuclear rods? If you use oil, you are subject to the whims of tinpot dictators like Chavez and Ahmenajad, and you're got the environmental risks on top of that as well.

There's a reason that many Republicans are finally (and far too belatedly) getting on board with the whole "Green" thing. There's a reason that Newt Gingrich is doing PSA spots with Nancy Pelosi talking about the environment. That reason is simple: We've got one world to live on, it is by far in our best interests to keep it in good shape.

You might be able to live in a dirty messy house, but would you want to? If you never clean, vermin may thrive. The vermin may be vectors for various diseases. It's possible to survive in a dirty house, but it isn't pleasant and it's not in your best interests. Clean it up.

Let's see...
Explore for new oil? No, we can't do that.
Open areas now off limits for drilling? No, we can't do that.
Drill for oil? Eh, no, not that either.
Build new refineries? No, not that EITHER.
How about outlawing "boutique" gasoline blends and limit fuel blends to two varieties... gas and diesel. No-can-do.
Build nuclear plants? Nada.
Explore the same coal-to-petrol process that Hitler used to fueled his war machine? Zip.
How about build cars that run on hope and good intentions? Ding ding ding! We have a winner!

In other words, if we had opened up drilling then, we would have a greater future supply now, therefore speculators wouldn't be watching the middle east in a state of panic.

Also, oil companies do have leases of land. However, to build a rig takes about one and a half billion. If they only get a billion dollars worth of oil out of it, then that's a loss. That's why they're not stupid enough to drill there either economically or profitably, because a billion bucks of oil won't get us very far. However, they know where there is a major supply and that's where they want to drill.

Or, would it make better sense to vote against the person who champions your causes in favor of a person who has positions diametrically opposed to your favorite candidate?
And just one example would be te 2005 budget amendment when Senator Clinton pushed for this in order to help prevent teenage pregnancy through education and birth control. Guess who voted against it? Yep, the other guy, McCain.

Let's take twenty percent of twenty thousand dollars. That would be four thousand dollars. Let's say that's what you pay in taxes because I can't imagine someone like you making any more than that.

Now let's take someone with a brain, he'll make two hundred thousand. We'll be fair and give him the same percentage. Twenty percent of that would be forty thousand dollars.
