Obama family talks campaign life

(CNN) - Whether or not their dad becomes the next president of the United States, the Obama kids are already winners - of a dog, that is.

In an interview with the entire Obama family to air later Tuesday, Malia, 10, and Sasha, 7, told Access Hollywood their famous mom and dad promised to buy a dog after the rigorous campaign season comes to an end.

"Win or lose, win or lose," the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee said.

In the interview, Malia also said she often gives her dad campaign tips on how to reach out to young people her age.

"You really don't shake kids’ hands that much, you shake adult hands," she said. “And I say you just wave and say hi, so I do that kind of stuff."

What's it like to have parents in the spotlight? Malia said now she reads about her mom in People Magazine.

"They always have those sections with you know, how much people's dresses cost, and so I saw that magazine, and I said, 'Oh mommy you're in this!' I've never seen mommy in that. Because I usually see people like Angelina Jolie –”

"You know, important people," mom Michelle quipped.

"Yes, real important people, no offense," Malia said.

Ralph...so what Mccain's son is in Iraq. That a decision HIS SON made...Mccain gets no credit for that. What he does get negative credit for is leaving his wife after she was disfigured in a car accident and marrying a Millionaire. Yeah...that's the leadership and morals you want in the White House huh?

Blayze Kohime, your name sounds African.. from Obama's home country of Kenya? Anyways, as McCain said, he has given his life for this country.. He works for it day and night, and guess what? When you do that, it leaves not much time to go out in front of reporters and have some arranged photos taken of you having a good time. McCain is beyond that. He is not superficial. He doesnt need staged photos of him smiling with his wife and marine son all decked out in uniform saluting the American flag as thousands of military personnel cheer in the background!

    Great allocation of journalistic resources.

One thing is clear, though. The Obamas are demonstrating to the 70+% of American black children who are illegitimate that there is such a thing as an intact AA family.

If the Obama's want to buy their daughters a dog – why not do the right thing and adopt from a shelter. "Appropriate" breeds don't mean anything to kids. They just want a dog to love. Save a life. Go to the Shelter and let them choose. Don't let media pressure and high end breeders make the decision.

@Eric in PA – What is troubling is YOUR President and the way he is leading our country. He's been in office for almost 8 years and is not ready to be Commander in Chief? I don't see how he can sleep at night. I am glad CNN is reporting on someting positive for a change. Let go of the drama and get over it!

1st, some of y'all PETA lovers or whutever need to chill and don't go overboard on nuanced words like "buy" vs. "adopt"...these are kids whom don't understand whut type of politically correct rhetoric that supposely be appropiate...their only concern is getting a puppy, not HOW they're getting it...little kids don't think like that

2nd, this is newsworthy just for the fact that people not only want, but for the most part NEEDS to know the personal side of obama...the main criticism is that they are unfamiliar of his character, and there are alot of people who are in opposition of him that are trying to smear and make up falsehoods about him and his background...so interviews of him with his family ARE needed...

the same goes with mccain...keep in mind that back in 2000, the smear on mccain fathering an illegitimate child is whut costed him his campaign....the fact was that no one was familiar of whut his family is actually like and bush/rove used that to their advantage...so things are like may appear cheesy, but are important

Wow here is a surprise. Obama using his kids to try and get elected. Well he has to talk about something since he has NO EXPERIENCE to talk about. Maybe he can trot out some nieces or nephews too. Welcome to President McCain.

I enjoy the option to read and yes comment on many different issues. CNN has printed many articles on many different subject; that is what makes it refreshing. I cannot think of any reason why this articles should be excluded. It may be wise to compare apples to apples and not make an issue out of something that should be read for what it is "an article on the family life of Obama.

Being a good and listening father and husband at home makes you a good boss at work. The President of the US is not expected to be omniscience (Though some of us expect that to be all-knowing and infallible). That is why they have post reserved for Secretaries and Advisers.

All it takes to be a good President is the ability to use your judgement and harness the Judgements of others to create a dream team by being a listening Leader and a Leader that knows that he doesn't have the monopoly of Wisdom; A leader that is discerning enough to sift between good and bad Advisers and advices; A Leader that is terrific at the home will definetely be a good Leader of the People.
That is why this story is relevant.

SWEET! The Obama's have daughters who are allergic to dogs..so choosing from a shelter is difficult as allot of the dogs are mixed breeds.
They need a hypo allergenic breed such as
a Maltese, Bichon Frise, Havanese, Poodle.. they have been searching for a year so I am sure the choice will be perfect for them. Beautiful family indeed. It was nice to read something light and easy for a change.. you haters should sit and be quiet.

    Ralph,

McCain's son is in Iraq, there are a lot of us who have not only son's but daughters there. My daughters girlfriend has BOTH parents over there in Iraq.

McCain is not the prince you all make him out to be. Talk about John Kerry marrying for money!!!!

For those wondering about McCain's kids, they are super cute!! Just google new york times 2008/04/06 and you will see a photo of them standing behind
"Jimmy, Jack, Meghan and Bridget McCain on Super Tuesday 2000 in Los Angeles, with their parents, Senator John McCain and Cindy McCain. Jimmy McCain is now a Marine lance corporal who recently returned from Iraq."

There are many readers upset with this story. They spewed their HATRED of the Obama family that it's becoming surreal. Jacob, Matt, Eric and others demand that Barack Obama is so flawed that he's unable to correct the ship. They continue that all news should relate to the problems and ills of America. CNN, you should comply with their demand.

WHY? You need to truthfully explained how we got into this mess. The Repubs were in total control of American for so many years and this is the result. McBush and Cheney continue their best to destroy this country. And these bleeding heart repubs are crying foul! What cry babies...girlie man.

They want total power regardless of any American detriment. The HATRED I read and hear, towards Barack and his family, is the same HATRED I read and hear from terrorist towards America. Yes, I'm calling Eric, Jacob and Matt latent terrorist. If they were able to order a hit, I believe they would. That goes for you too Brooklyn.

Read the NY times article.. very informative..
"Mr. McCain, now the presumptive Republican nominee, has staked his candidacy on the promise that American troops can bring stability to Iraq. What he almost never says is that one of them is his own son, who spent seven months patrolling Anbar Province and learned of his father’s New Hampshire victory in January while he was digging a stuck military vehicle out of the mud." "While Jimmy McCain’s service is a story all his own — he enlisted at age 17 — it illuminates the beliefs about duty, honor and sacrifice with which family friends say he was raised. Military ideals have defined Mr. McCain as a person and a politician, and he is placing them at the core of his presidential candidacy. Last week, he campaigned at his former stations of duty, explaining how the lessons he learned there would guide his decisions as commander in chief." He never wants to exploit his children for his gain... "Mr. McCain has largely maintained a code of silence about his son, now a lance corporal, making only fleeting references to him in public both to protect him from becoming a prize target and avoid exploiting his service for political gain, according to friends. At the few campaign events where Lance Corporal McCain appeared last year, he was not introduced."
