For those of you who are more concerned with the "buying a dog vs. adopting a dog" issue, welcome to the big picture. Stop fishing for another reason to slam Obama for something. Nowhere in this article do they mention Obama buying a dog from some fancy breeder somewhere. Did he specifically say that he would avoid adopting a dog from a shelter? No, I don't believe he did. In many, many cases, adopting an animal still requires a fee. I adopted a cat from a shelter and paid $100 for her.

I'm glad you're getting a dog at long last. I can't imagine our family life without a dog (plus a few cats). But please, please, rather than considering what "breed" to get, I think it would be wonderful if you would get a shelter dog. How about a "Katarina dog" desperately needing a home? There are a lot of haters posting today. This is what's known as a "human interest story". They have been published since the beginning of media as we know it. About every President and white house dog, etc. It doesn't all have to be serious. If you think the headline sounds like a human interest story and you don't have time for it, skip it. If it bothers you so much to waste time on this article, it seems odd that you allowed it to waste your time enough to use it as a tool to dig at Obama.

I recently adopted a beautiful Labrador Retriever puppy from a great breeder. I definitely wouldn't recommend they adopt a pet from a shelter since they have young children. A lot of breeders have older pets the Obama's can adopt. I recommend Labs for their great temperement and how they interact with children. A small breed may be a good idea too, but many of them are hyper and or aggressive.

I have never been an Obama supporter because I don't agree with his policies. I do think that this story is appropriate because it''s good to get to know the candidates on a personal level. I really like Obama as a person and if he would be willing to compromise on some issues and not be so incredibly liberal I could possibly vote for him. If that means he has to flip his positions a little, thats fine, as long as it is best for the country. I don't particularly like McCain but he is closer to me on the issues that really matter for our country so Obama still has some work to do to bring me over, but he's getting closer. (2 months ago I wouldn't have given him a chance because of his liberal record)

I wish people would stop saying Obama isn't qualified to be president. According to the constitution he is qualified. Over 35, American citizen, no criminal record. For whatever reason our founding fathers and those who have followed them have chosen not to change those guidelines and create a "talent management" plan for President. I'd rather have a president who has a solid family life and creates positive images than one who pays lip service to a family life, but behind the scenes says spiteful, hateful things.

I like the part of Obama taking his kids to Wright's church for years to listen to his cussing and anti-American rants. That was very positive to do. What an excellent role model and good American to president. He can also tell his kids bedtime stories of he adventures with Rezko and Ayers.

Just because he chooses to keep his kids out of the spotlight doesnt give you the right to bash his family life. McCain has purposely not allowed Jimmy to speak because he wants to shield them from the vicious media.. If Jimmy would be allowed to speak, he would say how he enlisted at age 17 in the marines, and was sent to Iraq, to a very deadly zone, and was in Iraq, helping a military truck get out of knee deep mud at the very moment his dad announced his candidacy. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ If McCain talked about those kids with Cindy he would also have to talk about the kids with his previous wife who hates his guts... He doesn't want to go there.
