Obama almost forgets Clinton

At a joint Wednesday fundraiser, Clinton nearly slipped Obama’s mind.
At a joint Wednesday fundraiser, Clinton nearly slipped Obama’s mind.

NEW YORK (CNN) – It was announced last week that Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton would attend a series of fundraisers in New York together, one to help pay down her campaign debt and the rest to help raise money for his White House bid.

But a busy day in the Senate delayed Obama in Washington, forcing him to combine two events into one where he was supposed to ask donors to help Clinton as well as contribute to his campaign.

Wednesday night, he praised Clinton as “extraordinary” and “tough” - but nearly forgot about her need for funds.

After wrapping up his speech to donors Wednesday evening with an emphatic, “We will change the world!”, Obama left the stage to loud music, only to re-appear minutes later to complete his duties.

“Hold on a second guys, I was getting all carried away. I’ve got one more thing that is important to do,” Obama said to a laughing audience. “Senator Clinton still has some debt. And I could have had some debt if I hadn’t won so I know the drill.”

He then asked donors to contribute to Clinton on the pledge cards under their seats, calling it “part of the process of making sure that we are unified moving forward.”

“That is very important to us, and obviously Senator Clinton would be grateful as well,” he added.

Clinton ended her campaign more than $20 million in debt. More than half of that is her own money, which she lent her campaign during the primaries but is not looking to recoup.

This is what I love about Obama. He's human.

I am sure the McCain supporters are furiously fingering their messages about how this is an example of his "inexperience" or something to that effect but, personally, these types of stories (although not news at all) show me that Obama is the only politician I feel I can even remotely relate to.

Go Obama! No more stupid, costly wars!

He only cares about himself and uses people.

    He is overly ambitious.

He even used his daughters and exploited them on TV.

It is sad the way that Barack uses his supporters–promises one thing
(to get votes in the primaries) and then flip-flops on the core tenets of his campaign.

FISA and Iraq are major flip-flops.

As for helping AAs–Obama has done nothing for them. In Chicago, he helped the slumlords get rich while poor Black tenants suffered in
deplorable conditions. Obama has done nothing for the Black community.

Obama cares about Obama. That's it. And he will tell people anything
just to pander for a vote.

I support Obama and will continue to donate to his campaign; however, Clinton ain't getting a dime! She ran up her debt when it was clear that she couldn't win. I will not help a millionaire pay off their debt, NOT HAPPENING! SHE MADE HER BED, NOW SHE LAY IN IT!

I saw the video and it was hilarious. Obama is a funny guy and handled it so well. The crowd loved it. I'm sure they are going to be some PUMA people all up in arms over this one. But it was an honest mistake.

Big deal. That's how it works. He does not owe her and her followers everything. He's trying his best while trying to secure his OWN bid. That's how the game is played. Nothing to stress out about.

Let's hope the press – and the voters – don't make more of this than McCain forgetting how inappropriate it is to joke about killing innocents in Iran. The real debt is to diplomacy and the promotion of peace in the world.

you see? he only cares about himself. he doesnt care about you or me and its beginning to show that he doesnt care about the black population either. who does this man care enough about that he wants to be the presiednt so that he can help? not the jews, the catholics, elderly, blue collar, women, blacks and especially whites. i keep being reminded that he said in his book(s) that white people are greedy and arrogant . i keep being reminded that his wife has a problem with white folks sorry but this man and his wife will be the downfall of this country. they will rule this country and they will decide who gets what in life. they hate people who have worked hard to get their millions and they hate people who are just to lazy to work. he wants to take over all private business and make it government owned. rings socialism to me. if i work real hard (cause my parents always said that this is what will get me through life) then if i earn millions then how dare anyone say that im not entitled to that and that i should share it with those less fortunate. i envision (in obamas world) robote. people wearing the same thing, thinking the same way, earning a certain amount of money and no more than that, reading the same books and never being able to be free to travel 9or to voice dissent. just a vision but if anyone can make it happen, it is certainly obama.

This is very frustating asn Obama supporter that he is now being put in a position as the nominee to have ask hic contributors to help her when she ran up a big bill after she new she would not win the nomination. Its almost as if she is trying to give her folks a reason to not vote for Senator Obama. She made that debt and she and her suppporters should help her retire it.

Let Hillary's 18 million lemmings she's always bragging about pay
off her campaign debts. Or, better still, let HER pay off her own
debts. Her and Bill are worth over $100 million dollars!

Not a dime for Hillary Clinton!

There exist a bigger story than this and CNN has not reported on it. A reporter asked McCain a question about health care coverage and the double standard between Viagra being covered and birth control not. Where is this story CNN?

Envelopes were already prepared to support Clinton financially. Hence, it was not a big deal. We Clintonites are behind Obama's candidacy.

Obama is a clearly arrogant politician and is evident not only in this excerpt but many others. I can not nor will I stand behind someone who cannot maintain some level of humbleness. It's very sad considering the message he and his campaign are standing behind–change.

More arrogance, change the world. Isn't that part of the problem with Bush? trying to impose our will on other countries?

Anyway, how convenient he forgot. Methinks Obama really is just using the Clintons for a show of unity and he knows that people still like them
and support them. Busy day or not. What will happen when he has a busy day as pres and he forgets something. Hmm..... an excuse for everything.

he's flip-flopping and making big mistakes everyday and you are helping people to see this--have you noticed the polls? Not good for Obama.

    This is news?
I love the political ticker because I get the opprotunity to comment on the events of the day that matter to me. You guys should have a news ticker for general news stories.
But this is filler. A waste of bandwidth.
As long as he came back to remembered to help his party member everything is cool.
I am amazed that you wrote an entire article about this.
I can't wait to see what other people have to say about this, especially those Clinton to McCain people, those embittered by Clinton losing.
I'll bet you dollars and do-nuts they will have something negative to say. They always do.
