Barack Obama is expected to meet with President Mahmoud Abbas in Ramallah on July 23,

JERUSALEM (CNN) – Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Barack Obama will be visiting the Palestinian Authority president in the West Bank next week, a Palestinian government official said Monday.

Obama will be meeting with President Mahmoud Abbas in Ramallah on July 23, Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erakat said.

Obama is expected to visit Israel, but officials could not yet confirm what his plans are there. Erakat was in Paris, France, where Abbas had been attending a summit.

The Obama campaign had no comment on the report.

Abbas held talks Sunday with French President Nicolas Sarkozy ahead of a sweeping summit launching the Union for the Mediterranean, bringing together leaders of more than 40 nations in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

God knows what he is likely to say. He is a serial flip flopper and he has a history of telling people what they want to hear and not the opposite. Look at his long history with the Rev. No. You are an idiot. Maybe YOU don't have a spouse, child, or anyone important to you dying in a war that no two people can name the same reason why it was waged. GWB does not want the war over, that's why its going on six years and well 4000 American lives have been lost. That doesn't even include the thousands of Iraqi caualties. Saddam Hussein had been captured and killed. Osama Bin Laden is still free and HE was responsible for 9/11.

As far as him "preaching" to black men, he experienced what it was like not to have his father as did I and the majority of the people I know. I agree with him and so do all the studies and data confirming what he said. Just like Bill Cosby was saying a little while ago.

Let's get past the negativity.

God bless you, Sen. Obama. Keep your friends close and your enemies even closer! That's an old wise saying that's quite true in today's world.

For the Clinton or McCain crowd: how can you vote for a man who will keep us in Iraq?

HOW CAN YOU VOTE FOR A MAN WHO SANG…..' BOMB… BOMB… BOMB IRAN" ?????????????????????????????????????

A VOTE FOR MCCAIN IS A VOTE FOR MORE WAR

MORE DEAD YOUNG SOLDIERS, MORE OF THEM COMING HOME MAIMED (30K ALREADY) AND MORE COMING HOME SO DISTRAUGHT THAT THEY COMMIT SUICIDE!

MORE NATIONAL DEBT……. ISN'T $10 TRILLION OWED TO DUBAI, CHINA AND THE SAUDIS ENOUGH??????????

SO GO AHEAD AND VOTE FOR MCCAIN…….. BUT DON'T COMPLAIN WHEN THINGS GET WORSE!

Fee, Philadelphia   July 14th, 2008 11:43 am ET

Wow Nightingale, do you ever have anything positive to say about Obama? It is clear you don't want Obama for President…that's your right. But if anyone is an idiot it is the head of our current administration. Bush may want the war to end, but if he does, he sure has a funny way of showing it…stay the course.

As for Obama visiting Palestine…who said it was his first stop? They are just the ones leaking information about a proposed date. Last time I checked, we have the worse relationship with Islamic Nations, so even if it is his first stop, it is also the area where the most work and diplomacy is needed. Might I also add that people in America really need to set aside their prejudice thoughts towards Muslims. It is almost as if 'Muslim' goes with devil worship or something and that couldn't be further from the truth. Just because some people are extremist in the religion, Americans shouldn't stereotype the religion. I seem to recall some Christians using their religion as a reason for slavery. Doesn't make it right!

Last, but certainly not least…as an African-American wife and mother, Obama's decision to speak out on the subject of the absence of fathers in our community is always welcomed until it is no longer an issue. Since he grew up without his father, I believe he can speak on the subject from first-hand experience. Last time I checked, you didn't have to be ordained to speak the truth! If his speech changed the thinking of just one man, it was one more than what we had before….we call that progress.

Obama '08…the only choice for me!

Oregon   July 14th, 2008 11:42 am ET

This will aggravate Jewish resentment of Obama.

Why does the New Yorker lampoon Obama as a Muslim and his wife as a Muslim terrorist? Jewish voters from New York. Why did Hillary Clinton become militaristic toward Middle East policy? She was elected from New York – a state with a sizable percentage of Jewish voters. Guess what PAC lobbies the most loudly for bombing Iran, keeping U.S. troops stuck in Iraq, and supporting both the Bush Administration and John McCain? It's AIPAC (American-Israel Political Action Committee).

To the extent Jewish voters want aggressive U.S. military involvement in the Middle East, we will continue to see Jewish resentment of Barack Obama. You see . . . Obama puts U.S. interests ahead of Israel's. Imagine that.

Olivia   July 14th, 2008 11:38 am ET

Are you kidding me? He is going there to get first hand information to deploy diplomacy and ease tensions between countries as well as the US.

As for him "preaching" about absentee fathers, he is a child of a fatherless home and has worked in communities where there is an excess of absentee fathers so he has first hand knowledge of how that affects the family and especially the child(ren).

Get off your computer and volunteer in low income communities for a month before you decide you are better than he is.

The U.S. is not suppose to take sides and stay neutral with the internal issues of Israel / Palestine. Obama yet again shows leadership by acknowledging the importance of not showing the Palestinians that we are biased and will help negotiate an independent Palestinian state.

Don Fitzgerald   July 14th, 2008 11:21 am ET

Thank God, for Democratic leadership !! How many times has President Bush or Vice-President Cheney visited the Palestinians ?? I don't think very many times, if at all. The Republicans have been delinquent in their diplomacy in the Middle East and that has resulted in tragedy and devastation, not to mention, occupation. Senator Obama will show the Republicans how to be fair to all parties, involved in the Middle East conflict. The Palestinian people deserved better, from the Israeli people, as well as from we, the American people. Maybe, in Senator Obama's terms as our President, he will bring the Palestinians and the Israelis together, as former President Carter did with the Egyptians and the israelis.
SUPPORT OUR TROOPS, BRING THEM HOME, ALIVE AND WHOLE. NOW.

The metaphors that compare Obama to Jesus, the Messiah are more of a reflection on the America People’s reaction to Obama, then on Obama personally.

After languishing under Republican dominated government for far too long, I have waited for a leader to immerge that will up hold Democratic Party values. I had great hope in Gore, Biden, and Edwards and I have been disappointed again and again as our great country continues to diminish under the strain of Republican mismanagement.

I see in Obama this long awaited leader with his superb intellect, solid integrity and savvy political skills. Obama shows tremendous potential to work effectively with our allies, to pacify our enemies, and to lead American in a positive direction something.

You cannot be serious. First of all, he is on a diplomatic mission to get information to get first hand information to deploy deplomacy and try to ease tensions between these countries as well as ours.

As for him preaching, he knows what it is like to live in a home without a father and has seen with first hand experience the large number of homes that are lacking a father.

Maybe you should do a month of community work so that you can see for yourself what he is talking about before you dare to judge.

Well voters have quite a extensive contrast in the two candidates in November's election.

One candidate main campaign focus is on killing, war and publicly trying to degrade other nations and their leaders.

One candidate advocates diplomacy with other nations and a peaceful withdrawl of troops from an occupied country.

The entire world is watching what ordinary Americans will do as their choice for President will clearly reflect their mindset and how they regard and want to treat other countries and their citizens.

Plain and simple this election will be a barometer of how the American public think!!!!!

"A Nightingale that sings in Berkeley Square," Obama's going to first land in Germany and then other places including the west bank which this post has just confirmed. Obama is a breath of fresh air. He is doing what should be done….not looking like he is taking sides. Sarkozy also organized a Mediterranean Conference in the hopes of trying to work together for the region. He united these two different countries in this process as well. As a world traveler I can tell you that the sentiment worldwide is for Obama, not a continuation of McSame and Bush's foreign policy nightmare. Bush and McCain are not seen favorably worldwide- I am talking mostly Europe where I travel. Fortunately, the Europeans I know and have met are good people and they don't judge Americans based on our government. Many are very discouraged with the present American government though. It's time we realize that what we do here at home affects countries worldwide and Bush has been a major concern. McCain will only follow the "stay the course mentality".

If people would only try to understand how close we are to WWIII with the cowboy mentality and the unpresidential off the cuff comments of John McCain towards Iran could easily throw things over. I would encourage you to look at how the Kennedys handled the Cuban Missile Crisis to see how that can be avoided. The eye for an eye mentality leaves everyone blind.

A Christian and Jewish country? Interesting. Goes to show you ill-informed you are, how little you know of the world, and how appallingly hateful your comments are about Obama. The state of Palestine has thousands of Christians, as the State of Israel has thousands of Christians and Muslims. That part of the world is the cradle of three religions, and Muslims, Christians and Jews live side by side.

If you are implying that Obama's meeting would happen in a closed door setting with the Palestinians, and since he is a "secret Muslim", he would strike a deal with his "brothers in arms", then I have news for you. You and people like you are precisely the reason the rest of the world hates us!!

Oh, I remember what he said at the beginning that really pissed off the terrorists, "To the terrorists and extremists, I say, bring it on." What an IDIOT!! And they brought it on too, now we have over 4000+ dead Americans and counting and all you can do is come on here and spew hatred. Why don't you go pay Queen Hillary's debt instead lowlife.

JIM...TX   July 14th, 2008 9:59 am ET

Nightengale…why don't you come up with a new post an quit replaying the same old crap on every one…too mush brain power needed?????

ANGIE   July 14th, 2008 9:49 am ET

its plain to see obama is the only rational one we have right know he is a goood diplomat able too see both sides i think something just might be accomplished just becareful senator obama we need you back here!!!!!!!!

Andy J, NY   July 14th, 2008 9:49 am ET

I find it quite funny that people think Obama going over there is going to cause any kind of movement in the Israeli-Palestinian situation.

This guy has no credibility on the international stage, and international leaders want him to be US president because they think they can push this little punk around. Obama is a joke.

no McCain!   July 14th, 2008 9:45 am ET

Maybe he can help out the Israel-Palestinian cause by viewing BOTH sides, as opposed to McCain, who blindly wants to support Israel.

In my opinion, Israel is the biggest threat to world peace because they are responsible for the extremist anger in Arab nations, we need to bring peace to the region. Our blind support of Israel has really hurt us in the long run.

Obama truly represents America, someone who is willing to view both sides and make decisions based on that.

Obama is keeping an open mind by visiting various countries.
Too bad our present administration doesn't understand the
meaning of diplomacy.
Does anyone know of any major accomplishments Bush/Rice
accomplished these last eight years?
Please keep him safe foreign countries. He is your and
our only hope.

HUMMMM…Following in Carters footsteps?

Republican for Obama   July 14th, 2008 9:40 am ET

A Nightingale Sings in Berkley Square:

Doesn't it tire you waking up every day so full of negative energy and hate? When the specifics of his trip first came out you probably said "why go to Germany, a predominately Christian country, doesn't he care about Muslims?"

It's clear you hate Obama, but at least if you must blog about it use intelligent arguments. If Bush wanted the war over he would have issued a command for the military to come up with an exit strategy. The war is a convenient distraction from the mess he put us in.

It's time for some inner reflection and to grow up.

Foreign observer   July 14th, 2008 9:14 am ET

There might be some new movement in the Near East peace process. Obama should get the details from first hand.

Phil in KC   July 14th, 2008 9:11 am ET

I'm sure the Republican hawks will attack him for this, but I think it's the right thing to do; visit Israel AND the Palestinians. It will take movement from both sides to achieve any type of peace in the Mid-East.

not important   July 14th, 2008 9:10 am ET

I wonder what Joe Lieberman will say about that? Or AIPAC? Obama is a good man and this prooves it. Barack doesn"t take sides. Obama can view the palestine Israel conflict objectively. Everybody knows that McCain can"t do that because AIPAC, Joe Lieberman and John Hagee tell McCain what to do.

The New Yorker is pure satire…isn't it?

Clinton or McCain '08

Republicans are out of touch   July 14th, 2008 9:02 am ET

Go represent us Barack, the world loves you unlike your opposition who gets heckled continuously right here in the USA by Americans.

Tim   July 14th, 2008 8:50 am ET

We are not a country of whiners and we are not imagining our hurt McSame. We understand your thoughts since you wife is worth $100 Million, you simply don't understand what we are going through.

A Nightingale Sings in Berkley Square   July 14th, 2008 8:49 am ET

SO the boy wonder is going to Palestine. Wonder what he is going to do there. Seems to me there are a lot of Muslims there. Why not go to a Christian or Jewish Country first. IS HE TRYING TO TELL US SOMETHING?

obama is such an idiot. He says the first day he would be president ( i hope never) that he would order the military on a new mission. End the war. Ha ha ha. Don't you think Bush wants the war over? Don't you think we all do? Obama dreams about things that can't happen and thinks he is an oracle. He plans to wave his magic voice and say make it happen.

I've got news for obama. He should quit preaching to the black men. He is not an ordained minister or an educated social worker. What qualifications if any does he have to preach. Give me a break.

Greg, NY   July 14th, 2008 8:49 am ET

No way, really?

I couldn't tell he was going to visit the West Bank by just the one article alone. Thanks for posting this second identical article! It clears up everything.

MD in GA   July 14th, 2008 8:44 am ET

Praying for a safe and successful trip there and back.
