Obama promotes foreign policy cred in new ad

Obama is highlighting his work with Sen. Lugar in a new ad.

(CNN) - On the same day Barack Obama is set to deliver a major address on his Iraq policy, the Illinois senator has released a new campaign ad promoting his bipartisan efforts in foreign policy.

In the new 30-second spot called "America's Leadership," Obama highlights his work with Republican Sen. Dick Lugar seeking to stop terrorist smuggling of loose nuclear weapons.

“The single most important national security threat that we face is nuclear weapons falling into the hands of terrorists," Obama says in the ad. "What I did was reach out to Senator Dick Lugar, a Republican, to help lock down loose nuclear weapons. We have to lead the entire world to reduce that threat."

The two senators developed a working relationship after Obama praised Lugar’s nuclear nonproliferation legacy on the campaign trail in 2004. The Indiana Republican later suggested the newly-elected Obama try for a seat on the Senate’s Foreign Relations Committee, which he then chaired.

The ad is running in an 18 states, including the traditional Republican strongholds of Alaska, Georgia, Indiana, Montana, North Carolina, North Dakota, and Virginia.

I have to jump in on the closed New Yorker piece-
PEOPLE-GET OVER IT! Since when is it a crime to satirize politicians? Whaaaa…..Obamanots are seriously crybabies. There are those posting comments that it’s Hillary’s fault, or McCains fault…Really? And when the country goes to hell-in-a-handbasket IF Obama makes it to the White House, whose fault will it be then? The picture is a spoof on media and perceptions. Obamanots should actually enjoy the piece and thank the New Yorker for talking about the REAL Obama. It’s all these wonderful UNEDUCATED, BIASED voters posting that are going to ruin this country. Obamanots: go take your toys and find another sandbox to play in. Leave the GROWN-Ups alone.

"Why not just vote for a real Republican that is strong on National Security"

Wasting trillions of dollars and thousands of lives in a country that wasn't a danger in the first place does not make Republicans strong on National Defense. It makes them weak on thought and strategy.

Anyone who supports Bush and McCain's ideas about national defense doesn't really want our nation to be safe. If you wanted our nation to be safe, you'd want actions that could bring results, instead of what we've been getting from the Republicans for 7 years.

    Becky, Becky, Becky...

The New Yorker cover is doing no such thing: all it is doing is helping Obama appear to be attacked 24/7 and make it seem like everyone is picking on him. His campaign feeds off of these nutjob rumors and they are doing a good job of making sure they stay around: as long as people attack him, he can "rise above it" and will get plenty of national TV time.

Just politics, that's all...don't read any more into than you have to.

“The single most important national security threat that we face is nuclear weapons falling into the hands of terrorists," Obama says in the ad.

I thought we didnt have to worry about "tiny" countries like Iran and Venezuela....but I guess if they had a nuclear weapon then we should worry? Oh...did Barrack forget that Iran may be developing a nuclear weapon? Did he forget that their leader is talking about wiping Israel off the map? And maybe we would know whether or not he thought the Iranian elite Revolutionary Guard was a terrorist organization, but he didnt vote on that bill, just like half of the other votes while he has been in the senate.

Obama is on the Foreign Relations committee, Hillary is on the Armed Forces committee, and the Dems have control of congress. So, why are we still in Iraq?? Oh, I guess Obama has to be President before that can happen, and then everything will be just fine.

Give me a break! They keep talking and not doing. All the while both parties are taking our freedoms. Why did Obama vote for FISA? Why do we have the patriot act and Guantanamo Bay Prison. All taking our freedoms away.

This commercial just points out how weak he is.

One thing we know about Obama is he has no experience so why try to show that he does?

The Democratic leadership will learn a hard lesson in November when Americans vote for the candidate they are sure puts America first and who can make the tough decisions.

Why would the Obama campaign issue an Obama Pride tshirt? What about American Pride? If Hillary had put out a Clinton Pride tshirt the press would have been all over that!

Lest we also not forget that Obama thinks we have 57 states.

Oh brother! Like Obama's other ads, this one is somewhat misleading, attempting to make it appear that Obama has more knowledge of foreign policy issues than he really does. I don’t have a problem with Obama, but he really needs to be more straightforward with us and stop attempting to spin facts in order to give the illusion that he has actually done more than he has. This is sort of like the ad in which he claims to have worked his way through college. He may have worked while he was in college, but having two summer jobs can’t really be construed as working your way through college. He may have worked a bit with Lugar on this issue but he didn’t really play a leading role.

Look, the threat of "nuclear weapons", falling into the hands of our enemies; will always be "present". As long as "someone" is willing to sell; there is "somebody" willing to buy. That has always been the reality, still is. Just like oil........................

Obama is NOT Muslin, but......He is NOT trustworthy either.
I am a Democrat but will NEVER vote for Obama. With or without Hillary on the ticket. I do not trust him and he flip-flps as much as any other politician. Most (if not all) of his sensible and possible workable plans are from the minds of others. He does not have any orginial plans of his own......

I will vote McCain. For me not voting is not an option.

Becky, Becky, Becky... The New Yorker cover is revealing all of the Republican's tricks and lies against Obama, and bringing it up for discussion front-and-center to cease the spread of the lies. But keep trying, because I'm sure there are still Americans with your false viewpoints. That's how Bush got elected second term, by try to use fear to win.

The New Yorker is a LIBERAL magazine read by all the blinded Democrats so you are wrong in your Oliver Stone conspiracy theory that it's the Republicans. Obama is using the “FEAR” tactic too so it goes both ways, but when ever you liberals don’t have your way you cry fowl.

Obama lied about why he attended a racist anti American church for 20 years, had an endorsement from the Black Panthers on his campaign web site, flip flopped on ever major issue. Rev Wright was right about one thing… Obama will slither to the left or right to get what he wants.

True wisdom and judgement is not about getting the facts or the fact-finding according to McSame, it is about what you do with the facts! It is about insight, predictions that come true and good judgement and solid strategy long before things start playing you out.

A commander-in-chief should be in control making plans and taking actions to achieve the intended outcomes not the other way around of the outcomes shaping the reactions like McSame obviously supports.

Obama's record shows a very strong wisdom and judgement as opposed to McSame's considering their predictions on Iraq years ago.

  22. Obama gets it right........

Does it not seem strange that Obama has had the uncanny judgement to predict events monts in advance of their occurrence.

He said we should bomb terrorists stongholds in Pakistan and was called 'naive' by McCain. The administration has ordered at least 4 such attacks since he was called naive.

He has said we have taken our eye off the ball in Afghanistan and that the Taliban have regrouped. Yesterday 9 Americans were killed in a single attack.

He said that if he were President he would send 2 or 3 more brigades to Afghanistan to shore up our undermanned troops. Admiral Mullen, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff agrees with him but said he did not have the troops to do that.

He said we should pull out of Iraq on a timetable and redeploy our troops where the real threat of terrorism exists, Afghanistan. He was laughed at by McCain. The Iraqi government has asked us to leave their country on a timetable if necessary.

The administration, it was reported yesterday, is working out a plan to reduce troop strentgh in Iraq and redeploy troops to Afghanistan.

For a guy with "no experience" he seems to have gotten this all correct.

Becky–and how is this extreme left wing magazine portraying Obama in this way the fault of the right wing? Everything that is depicted here was brought to light by your own back-stabbing, liberals in the primary! And, it was not made up. We saw and heard with our own eyes and ears. Rev Wright, Ayers, Michelle's speeches and comments, Obama's "attire", are all fact, not fiction as you would depict. Liberal and DNC stories, all –to win at any cost! Unity, my foot!

The "New Yorker" cover is a distraction to what is really important. I in no shape or form believe that the cover accurately depicts the Obama's. I challenge anyone who have seen the cover to read the article it references. I hurts me to my heart that we are still living in a country that is filled with hate and bigotry.

Now to address this column, those bloggers who have continuously questioned Obama's service to this country are now complaining when he is now providing information about what he has done since becoming an elected official. I cannot understand why anyone would want to run for office when they have to be subject to ingorant grumblings from those who seek to spread half truths and down right lies. I am talking on the behalf of both Senator Obama and McCain. Futhermore, for those WHINERS, that's right, I said WHINERS, who keep calling for Hillary Clinton to be added on the ballot for president, need to wake up and get over it. You are starting to sound like a bunch of spoiled brats.

We have alot of issues that are more important than the trash that some of you are running into the ground. My mother's home was foreclosed on last week. I have to ride public transportation to work now because I cannot afford to pay for gas, my son's tuition, and other utilities. I have lost a brother and a brother in-law in Iraq. So please people, grow the hell up. This goes for the media too. I'm sick and tire of the ignorance that this country has been portraying as of lately.
