Obama promotes foreign policy cred in new ad

Obama is highlighting his work with Sen. Lugar in a new ad.

(CNN) - On the same day Barack Obama is set to deliver a major address on his Iraq policy, the Illinois senator has released a new campaign ad promoting his bipartisan efforts in foreign policy.

In the new 30-second spot called "America's Leadership," Obama highlights his work with Republican Sen. Dick Lugar seeking to stop terrorist smuggling of loose nuclear weapons.

“The single most important national security threat that we face is nuclear weapons falling into the hands of terrorists," Obama says in the ad. "What I did was reach out to Senator Dick Lugar, a Republican, to help lock down loose nuclear weapons. We have to lead the entire world to reduce that threat."

The two senators developed a working relationship after Obama praised Lugar’s nuclear nonproliferation legacy on the campaign trail in 2004. The Indiana Republican later suggested the newly-elected Obama try for a seat on the Senate’s Foreign Relations Committee, which he then chaired.

The ad is running in an 18 states, including the traditional Republican strongholds of Alaska, Georgia, Indiana, Montana, North Carolina, North Dakota, and Virginia.

Yes, McCain does have the edge in experience, the experience of bad judgement. His experience leads to his judgement to support the Iraq war. His experience leads to his judgement that the war will last only a year or two. His experience leads to his judgement that we can stay in Iraq another 50 or 100 years. His experience leads to his judgement that the surge in Iraq will not negatively impact our efforts in Afghanistan. His experience leads to his judgement that he would welcome Dick Cheney in his administration. His experience in exercising such continuing poor judgement leads to our judgement that his experience has no place in the White House and quite possibly the Senate.

To Jan From Boca Raton, Fl The New Yorker has built a highly successful publication which has endured over the decades because of their ability to satirize those people, such as yourself, who actually believe the myths and lies. Jan, the cover of The New Yorker is a joke: a farce. Satire. Get it? You might try to read The New Yorker to differentiate between fact and fiction.

Whatever Obama does will at least be different from the current administration - which includes McSame.

John McCain = Bush's Third Term.

Every time he opens his mouth (McWar), the price of oil goes up, which is EXACTLY why the current administration supports him. They need to get ALL the profits before they sneak out the back door or get this clown in so they can stay.

It appears that Obama only wants the Presidental life time paycheck. He has set the record of miss roll calls and votes in the congress. More than any other senator in the present or past. Let the facts be seen and read by the public. His speaking across the U.S. shows he is not presidental material for this nation. Hillary could have been a better choice??????.. dreamartist has their eyes and ears open to the facts about the U.S.

ask your candidate – where is his flag pin..??

John McWeekender is the same as BUSH.. and the country is worst off with BUsh in the driver's seat... McCain will not be a leder for the people, McWeekender will be off on weekends, flying around in his corporate jet by his Malibu Cindy..and can't even turn a computer on..It's year 2008 not 1908- shouldn't he understand atleast the basic computer skills.. (looks you have some basic computer skills- (hence happy face icon)

Flip-Flops, gaffs, afraid of public speeches, no church, left his first crippled wife and cheated on her for a woman half his age..

The presidential candidate has a long way to go before he gets a credibility walk.. just being a POW doesn't cut it ... So.. he still doesn't know anything about the economy- his own words.. And he haste the cable moster..

You KC- neeed to wake up & smell the coffee..

So what if Obama is a Muslim? (He is a devoted Christian, for those of you still too retarded to look up his background)

Since when did we become so hateful to persecute over 1.2 billion people for the misdeeds of a handful? There are millions and millions of peace loving Muslims, both in America and rest of the world, who neither condone terrorism or extremist ideas, nor do they hate us.

I am tired of seeing people using the word "Muslim" as if it is leprosy or a mind-altering disease. Makes me ashamed of my country and my countrymen! We are no longer the land of the free, and yes terrorists (Al Qaeda, Bush, Cheney, et. al.) have won!! They wanted to divide our nation and the world community on two sides and they did!!

Enlightened Voter- McCain may have been born in Panama, that's true. But you neglected to add that he was born on a military base, as his father 'a true American' was serving in the military and wanted his wife with him. So Enlightened Voter, please get your facts straight, moron!

Obama chaired the Foreign Relations Comittee and didn't even have one meeting! Yet, he supposely, wants us to believe he worked with others. It seems to me he should have done something with the committee that he chaired!

JP which benchmarks have been met? I've seen you post that before and it's nonsense. First of all the Bush administration stated that it was wrong to benchmark, and since then they have radically altered mutliple lists of benchmarks. There does seem to be success now and the Iraqi's are asking for a timetable for us to leave. That's great news and I'm sure some of the strategic changes with the surge accomplished where we are. WOuldn't have been nice if they listened to the Generals in the begining who recommended much higher troop levels at the start. If we would have let our Military rebuild the country instead of contactors who are lining their pockets. That does not change the fact that we should not have been there in the first place, and should have actually gone after the terrorists who attacked us in the first place and put money into securing our ports and boders.

    An independent's perspective:

Obama hasn't done anything worthy of note as either state or US senator. I'm not sure what the dems were smoking when they chose Obama over Hillary. On issues they're not that different, but in terms of practical experience they're light years apart. I can say this much ... the democratic party really shot themselves in the foot. The presumed nominee is incapable of presenting himself as anything but a career politician who will say/do anything to reach the next level. For someone who claims to be a candidate of change ... a breath of fresh air from 'old politics', that realization is quite depressing.

The closer we get to November, the more trouble he'll be in. Both America and the media (despite CNN's blatant bias) is quickly exitting the honeymoon phase of Obama. Does anyone else here find it funny that ~ 90% of the tickers have Obama in the title. So much for "the most trusted name in news".

  23. BC FOR OBAMA

In order to get the USA out of the mess that your present president has made, you are going to need all of the great minds the country has to offer, whether they are democrats or republicans, to work together and attack the crisis that you're presently in. Obama seems to be the only one to acknowledge this, that's why he's reaching across the political spectrum of the country to get things done because he's smart enough to know that he can't do it alone, nobody can and it would take a fool to think otherwise. Most empires of human history lasted 500 -1000 years, sometimes more, but the way it's going now, the USA is not going to come close to the longevity of those great societies of the past because it's burning within. The initial philososphy for the country was great but never lived up to. Maybe it was too tall of an order and not enough educated people to overcome the racial divides that holds America back while others progress and embrace the new millennium.

    Obama for President.

You guys should go to jpost.com and see Omar Khadalfi's video from Arab TV. He talks about Obama and his muslim heritage and schooling and Khadalfi also says Obama shouldn't be afraid to be part of the Muslim brotherhood and embrace his allies. It also says, the Arab world is proud of him and they look forward to his Presidency. They want him to quit the politiacal posturing with Israel. I'm sure AP won't be running this story, If it gets out, the photos will look pretty normal. Is this really someone you want to run this country?"

Yes. Understanding, acceptance, and a diverse education are exactly what we need in a president.

On the other hand, this is what the rest of the world needs to strive for as well. While we (should) have no direct influence over the rest of the world, we can set a good example.
