McCain again cites current events in 'Czechoslovakia'

McCain again referred to the nation of Czechoslovakia, which no longer exists.

McCain again referred to the nation of Czechoslovakia, which no longer exists.

(CNN) - For the second time in two days, John McCain has referred to current events in “Czechoslovakia” – a country that officially ceased to exist in January of 1993.

“And I regret some of the recent behavior Russia that has exhibited, and I’ll be glad to talk about that later on including reduction in oil supplies to Czechoslovakia after they agreed with us on a missile defense system, etcetera,” said the presumptive Republican nominee at a New Mexico town hall Tuesday.

More than fifteen years ago, Czechoslovakia officially split into two nations – the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

On Monday, the Arizona senator made virtually the same statement about recent Russian moves that troubled him, citing that country’s attempt to reduce “the energy supplies to Czechoslovakia.”

Later that evening, McCain’s campaign sent reporters a statement on the issue, which quoted the Arizona senator calling the nation “the Czech Republic” twice.

What a joke this guy is, along with his supporters.
A man trying to impress us with his foreign policies whould atleast know what country he is referring to when discussing it.
Just in case him and his supporters are not aware yet, the earth is round.

McSome is safe with this one. I bet 90% of americans don't know that Czechoslovakia ceased to exist 15 years ago either."

Rosa, you have a fair point – 90% of Americans probably don't realize that Czechoslovakia ceased to exist 15 years ago. But 90% of Americans are not the leaders of this country. The president has obligations far and above that of most Americans. To make a slip like this twice within a short period of time would not be so bad if McCain were running to be an ordinary American, but he's not. He is running to be the leader of the free world, and therefore must be judged more stringently.

The same stringency, by the way, must be applied to Obama as well.

Maybe John McCain is realy too old and doesn't remember well as regards to History, Geography and some other important concepts that might be slighlty valuable for a president to know about for example that Checkoslovakia no longer exists. Where is Joe Lieberman when he is is needed?

Can you even dare Imagine this old bag as our president? Comparing McCain to Bush I will say it's like jumping from the frying pan into the fire if we dare consider voting for him. I'm sure his people drilled him on mkaing the right statement but somehow somewhere you can't teach an old dog new tricks.

May God Almighty help America but the truth is that the PUMA democrats and racists don't even give a hoot. Obama will just have to settle for a slim win in November and I can live with that!

The strange thing is that McCain memory issues seem to come in groups. I could not believe when he repeatedly switched up the groups in Iraq, and it is a little odd to make this mistake multiple times. It seems to undercut his claim to be operating at full capacity.

I see the Senator is stuck in the past Just a little history – Czechoslovakia split into the Czech Republic and Solvakia in 1993.

Everybody has memory lapses. It unfortunate that this seems to be the norm with Senator McCain.

How come McCain never speaks on how bogus WMD and the Iraq war is? He has no position b/c he can't bump heads with Bush. He speaks of winning the war. It was a win win situation from the beginning. They want us out and McCain wants to stay to fulfill the GOP agenda.

  16. not an obamabot, thank GOD

I am not voting for juan mcamnesty, but this isnt as bad as camaining in 57 states, a mistake made by the young, messionic figure that will fix everything only if we give him most of our paychecks. Notice how democrats NEVER say less government is a good solution, its ALWAYS more government programs. Change we can believe in, si se puede.

This is the guy who says that foreign policy is his strong suit. Yet he doesn't know the differnce between sunni and shia'a or that 'Czechoslovakia' hasn't been around for 15 years. Is he smarter than a 5th grader? It is clear that MCBush thinks because he was in a war that he know about foreign relations and does not.

Why doesn't the media ever pick up on the hourly gaffes Uhhbama spits out when he doesn't have a teleprompter to read?

    bias? Naww.

Meanwhile, the Uhhbama supporters are wondering what the heck is going on because they dropped out of school in junior high.

Most of you people are idiots. At least he new it used to be the Czech Republic. Obama doesn't even know where the country is. Must less know what the current situation is there. Has he ever mentioned any of these countries that are our allies and in trouble of being taken over by foreign powers or are being cut off from food, oil, medical and other supplies. THE ANSWER IS NO!!!!!. HE DOESN'T CARE BECAUSE HE IS TOO BUSY TELLING YOU IDIOTS WHAT HE KNOWS YOU WANT TO HEAR. Someone needs to stop him and flat out ask him WHAT THE HELL HE INTENDS TO DO ABOUT IT? INSTEAD OF WITHDRAWING OUR TROOPS FROM ANOTHER WAR THAT IS NOT COMPLETED. IF HE DOES THESE THINGS WE WILL HAVE IT ALL TO DO OVER AGAIN IN FOUR YEARS UNLESS HE TURNS THIS COUNTRY OVER TO BIN LADEN FIRST.
