As far as being a more qualified Commander In Chief, as a professional soldier McCain should have been demanding an exit strategy from the beginning. Without an exit strategy you are simply there to conquer and occupy. Ignore the desire of the people of that land you conquered. This is precisely the McCain approach for another 100 years.

While he was a POW he totally missed the last 5 years of American voter upset over Vietnam, thus McCain in 2008 fails to see American voters of the Vietnam Era aren't not supportive of occupation for.

But what would you know about any of that? You sit safely at home while others fight the battles for you - and probably fall apart when your cell phone battery is low!

The recognition McCain has received from veterans groups is not "high awards" but failing grades:

Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America gave McCain a grade of D for his record of voting against veterans. (By contrast, Obama got a B+.)

Disabled Veterans of America noted McCain’s dismal 20 percent voting record on veterans’ issues. (Obama had an 80 percent.)

In a list of "Key Votes," Vietnam Veterans of America (VVA) notes McCain "Voted Against Us" 15 times and "Voted For Us" only 8. (Obama voted for VVA 12 times, and against only once.)

Good God people....Iraq is now a national security issue....was it before we invaded probably not. But it happened and now we have to fix it!!!! What happened when the Soviets left Afganistan....do any of you brain dead Obama supporters know?????????

Well, do some research if you can't guess off the top of your head. We are in Iraq now and we need to prevent Iraq from becoming another terrorist breeding ground like Afganistan became for OUR OWN SAFETY!!!

Anyway, Obama has the exact same policy as McCain, which is to keep a force there as security and some that are combat ready. Exactly what McCain said he'd do and will do it as and when the generals on the ground say so.

Right now the Hamas has joined the Taliban in Afghanistan. That means that we need to strengthen our troops and change some of our tactics there. Iraq has become more stable. I'm sure that this development will allow us to bring some troops out of that country.

When we make decisions of troop deployment that are set in concrete, that only allows our enemies to plan and plot accordingly. That not helping our national security.

Haliburton takes great care of the troops overseas, inlduing feeding and providing housing to us troops. And beasides that, from my two and soon to be three tours in iraq, 90% of the Us armed forces there beleive int he mission and don't want a rapid withdraw... sure we want to come home but we dont want to go back again and we dont want you peace-sign toting weenies to get killed in our place.

Those are the same people who don’t study or pay attention to the mistakes of history. Putting your head in the sand and bringing our troops home before the region is stable leads to more problems for the USA.

The flip-flopping policy patterns created by Obonga style politics would “enable” and strengthen our enemies.

What Lefties seem to miss is that the US Generals working in the Iraq theater have started talking about “meaningful” troop removal due to the progress that has been made. McCain is not opposed to troop removal but thinks he needs to have a more informed and intelligent plan based on facts and with the input of the General and Troops in Iraq.

John McCain wants to win what? You cannot win in Iraq. What are we winning? We need to get out and have a withdrawal plan to leave. This man is too old to lead this country. He is old school, and like many people on this blog does not want change. Well, like Obama or not he will be the next President by a great landslide.

Since McCain's children are fighting for our freedom now the lib has totally abandoned their former way of thinking and so called belief. We got distracted b/c Bush wanted to make up for his dad not taking out Hussein to begin with and because he is an Oil man. Getting out of Iraq (which the Iraqi's want too, btw) and refocusing on Afghanistan is not being cowardly. It is re-establishing resolve in accomplishing a mission (and that's without the stupid 'mission accomplished' banner).

Saint Louis, Missouri has one of the highest crime rates in America. They have the highest drug manufacturing rates and one of the highest violent crime rates. Their high school drop out rates are among the top ten in the nation, and their education standards were so low they have state apponted leadership in many schools.

In many ways the city of Saint Louis is like Iraq.

The military personel in Iraq are like the city and county police in Saint Louis. They do their jobs on a daily basis, but from the outside (from people who do not live there) Saint Louis, while have some problems, is a thriving city.

Now for the metaphorical question: Should we send all the police in Saint Louis home because "The job is done?"

And wouldn't the so-called "success" of the surge strengthen the case for leaving sooner?
