McCain: Not taking Nebraska for granted

McCain says he will have to compete in Nebraska.
McCain says he will have to compete in Nebraska.

OMAHA, Nebraska (CNN) - John McCain has made a recent habit of telling audiences at his fundraisers that he is “the underdog in this race.”

But is he so far behind Barack Obama that he’ll spend serious time and money competing in …Nebraska?

"We are the underdog," McCain said at a finance event in Ashland, Nebraska Wednesday night. "We are not taking the state of Nebraska for granted. I’m going to campaign here and compete here and I need your help. We need to organize. We need to get out the vote. We’ve got a headwind because our economy’s tough.”

According to the CNN Electoral Map, Nebraska is solidly red, a “safe” state for McCain. The state hasn’t voted for a Democrat in a presidential election since the Lyndon Johnson landslide of 1964.

It’s one of two states, along with Maine, that splits its electoral votes according to congressional districts – one vote for each of the state’s three congressional districts, with two more votes allocated to the state winner.

Lol. I think that Obama will win Nebraska because of the way they allocate votes.

He's wearing some really swanky shades. CNN why not report on the type of shades he's wearing? Oh wait... you only focus your tabloid journalism on Obama.

One of two things: either he is worried that Obama might pull off another Johnson landside (not likely but certainly not beyond the realm of possibility) or he is just trying to create an image and raise funds.

    10 years sober

"We’ve got a headwind because our economy’s tough.”

Yes, Grampy, we've all been talkin' 'bout it since the beginning of the year and beyond when you were still sayin' it was sound and we'd all be fine. Thanks for coming out of the last century with all your innovation and foresight. Your vision on the economy is about a clear as your vision in Afghanistan, Iran and Iraq. Still wearin' those blinders when you can remember where they are old mule, huh?

Seems like Obama's strategy is working already. Go ahead and bleed yourself dry in Nebraska, McCain. I'm sure the state could use it given the economic mess created by the Bush/Reagan policies you whole-heartedly agree with.

Sir, It’s a 50 state strategy by the Obama campaign and they will force you not to take a single state for granted and ware you (and your money) out! What a strategy! What political genius from the Obama side!

To be honest McCain needs all the help he can get! This man is behind in his own state of Arizona. John McCain needs to give it up. The economy is too bad, and people are tired of the government spending money for a war that was based on a big fat lie. We can't afford another 100 yrs.

Gates is trying to figure out a way to send troops to Afghaniston. The military is at its limits. Obama, was right from the beginning. Now, we have an envoy meeting with the Iranians, troops being sifted to Afghaniston. We need a President with good judgement and intelligence. Take a good look at our economy, its in shambles. It will get worse before it rebounds. There are many more pople who will lose their jobs and homes. No McCain! Obama, yes we can and will!

In any case, McCain does fully recognize that Czechoslovakia is a vital issue to Nebraska.
