McCain------Let me just say again, Sen. Obama, no storage and no reprocess. And that's nuclear power. No drilling offshore. That's a way of finding oil and gas reserves. Dr. No," McCain said

Obama's environmental proposals mimic many of Gore's own: he would implement an economy-wide cap-and trade program to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and plans to make the United States a leader in the global effort to combat climate change.

Reality check... Al Gore has invested alot of money into making his home environmentally neutral. He does not pay what you think for energy costs. Al Gore proved that he had sincere desire to do good for the world by becoming one of the most effective environmental leaders. I could only imagine how great of a job he would have done, had he been elected...

Thank you Al Gore for stepping up to the plate. When I hear politicians continuing to sing a song of oil when it isn't renewable and it isn't going to be around forever, oh and guess what - supply outstripping demand will mean the price of gas won't go down, I just want to scream.

It isn't hard people. Conserve. Don't drive as much. Don't consume as much. Demand alternative sources of energy. They are out there and other countries are finding and using them while we are still crying about the cost of a gallon of gas - and then filling up our SUV's.

Walt....obviously a Republican surrogate, repeating the same old lie. Al Gore never did say he was the father of the Internet. And I would rather that he had a mansion and travelled the world trying to change the world for the better instead of living in a mansion doing nothing to change our dependency on oil and coal.

Yes I like the Ozone Man. I like him to stay in TN.

He and Obama make a fine pair. He would be the Alpha Man while Michelle would be the Alpha Woman. You know where that leaves obama? Yeah he is still the girlie man.

Watch how he makes his Iraq declarations without consulting the generals on the ground. AAAAh I think he thinks he is a know it all. He certainly gives speeches fairly well but no substance.

Jeez, will the empty sarcasm of uninformed bloggers never stop? I'm tired of seeing vicious comments posted about everyone, from McCain to Obama. Yes, I have strong views too, but I believe messages should be about the facts and real issues. It's sad to see excellent public figures vilified by folks who know nothing about their actual history in the public sphere. Obama, McCain, Ted Kennedy, Condi, Biden, Gore, etc. Not to mention Hillary! All treated like criminals, with some old incident lingering in the public mind as the defining characteristic of the person.

There's no doubt that Al Gore has contributed more than any other public figure to "saving the planet." It's not about inventing the internet, as foes like to claim. It's about inventing our new consciousness if we are to survive. Putting people like him back in government service is the way forward. Denial of climate change must end.

That's wonderful McCain favors nuclear power. Does that mean we can centralize nuclear power for the United States in Arizona and dispose of the nuclear waste in perpetuity in Arizona? Then we won't have to be concerned about transporting the dangerous by products on the nation's infrastructure (which McCain has voted against repairing). Accidents can be centralized in Arizona so residents of that state are the only ones who have to worry about being their own night light.

I think we can all agree that Vice President Gore has been at the forefront of raising awareness of this issue. But doesn't it strike anybody as a little interesting that his proposal is so far outside the mainstream of what other policy makers have been saying (total elimination of our reliance on fossil fuels within 10 years)? Also, isn't he totally invested in renewable technologies with his hedge funds? So, is this what he thinks is necessary/good for the country or for his own financial future?

Oh wow, I actually agree with McCain on the issue of nuclear energy. I'm not sure I'll be able to sleep tonight. Offshore drilling is a bad idea though, but replacing our coal power plants with nuclear is probably necessary to fight global warming, unless we have a major breakthrough with fusion. The only real issue is what to do with the waste, but I think it's better to poison only a localized area than the entire atmosphere.

If you REALLY cared, Al, you'd get back in the game and be Obama's VP so he could hands down win this. But just like in 2000 when you let Bush steel the recount, just like through your whole administration where yall never signed the Kyoto treaty, just like how you STILL couldn't buck the Clinton Monster till weeks after Barrack was the nominee to show your support... you appear the spineless whiner who says old news but gets the praise, for what? If Americans don't already know of these issues and are learning them from Al Gore, they must be on that "Czechoslavkian Viagra" already and won't get it anyway.

If Americans don't already know of these issues and are learning them from Al Gore, they must be on that "Czechoslavkian Viagra" already and won't get it anyway.

I was fortunate enough to attend this speech today. Mr. Gore is bold and on point with the challenge he has posed for us. Please do not comment on the small snippets of the speech you may hear. If taken out of context, his plan may seem unfounded and too overwhelming to ever take shape. If you read the entire transcript, available online, you will see that he has all his numbers right, he has a way to do it, and frankly it has to happen. Why not start now? Though we should have started 20 years ago. Oh and don't worry Walt. It will be ok. Though I am sure the solar panels on his roof and energy-saver appliances are no match for yours.

If McCain or any other politician wants to build a nuclear power plant than please make sure that they have it built right next door to where they, their children and their grandchildren live.
Until someone has the guts to stand up to the big oil company's and push for alternative fuel sources than America will be held hostage to greed from company's that can claim a $40 billon profit and than have the nerve to say that this is not excessive.

"Both parties' presumptive nominees praised former Vice President Al Gore as he challenged the nation Thursday to transition completely to renewable and carbon-free energy within the next decade — but parted ways on some of Gore's recommendations."

""Let me just say again, Sen. Obama, no storage and no reprocess. And that's nuclear power. No drilling offshore. That's a way of finding oil and gas reserves. Dr. No," McCain said."

McCain, drilling offshore is not "renewable and carbon-free energy". Can you even know what you say?

Dr. No Obama will have us paying $10 a gallon in a couple of years and we still will not have started drilling. We need to do everything we can to get off foreign oil NOW. Obama flip flops so much we don't know what he believes. If I have to hear him read his rhetoric too many more times I am going to puke. He is so arrogant he thinks he is a movie star.

McCain is interested in any energy source that keeps a refinement aspect in it. Nuclear will require a middle man to refine and distribute the power. The oil folks can just leap over to that, and not loose a dollar.

True renewable energy is consumer direct energy, and that is the change Gore is talking about.

If the oil companies truly wanted to drill here they would explore the 68 million acres already alloted.

The whole Idea of drill now drill here is narrow minded. Alternative energy is needed and the implementation of the infrastructure will create jobs.

Memo to CNN:

"But John McCain reminded reporters he and Gore hold very divergent views on the use of at least one renewable energy source."

In what way is nuclear power renewable?

I voted for Al Gore for President and worked on Clinton/Gore campaigns in 1992 and 1996, I know he would have made a great President and we would have been ahead of fighting Global warming.

I am very proud of him now and think he is done more now in making us more aware of this problem we all need to take care of, by McCain and Obama praising him is a big step in getting all sides to accept and come up with a solution and save our Planet.

God Bless you Mr. Gore.

Anyone who is against nuclear power should be shunned. It is *the safest* form of large scale power production currently available, and should be utilized extensively. Nuclear waste can be reprocessed relatively easily for further use as fuel, the remaining byproducts of which are also easily stored no matter what all the naysayers tell you.

I'm glad to see the McCain displays a little more decorum and professionalism than most Republican politicians and hacks these days, but he still won't get my vote. Maybe if he was still the maverick that he once was, I would listen to him more, but he sold out to the lunatics on the far right.

Obama offers the best hope right now out of all the candidates.

And no, JERKS, we don't look at Obama as the "Messiah", but just an intelligent person who offers some credible possibilities for improvement.
