McCain is counting on the RNC’s fundraising prowess.
McCain is counting on the RNC’s fundraising prowess.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Republican John McCain says he raised more than $21 million in June, his best month so far in terms of fundraising.

McCain's campaign also spent nearly $26 million, more than double what he spent in May. Most of that went toward advertising.

The influx of cash is due to a better performance by a joint fundraising committee that McCain set up with the Republican National Committee.

Because he's accepted public financing, McCain has to spend everything he raises between now and the Republican national convention in September.

Barack Obama hasn't officially filed his June report with the Federal Election Commission. He has until midnight Sunday, but earlier this week his campaign reported raising $52 million the month.

Doesn't matter what Obama brings in and what McCain brings in.
Obama will loose in November.
There are more whites in America who are not ready for the wrong reasons to vote for an African American president than there are African Americans 98% who will vote for Obama.

Obama was smart to opt out of Public financing. He was smarter than anyone else on Iraq. Smart on supporting talks with Iran before we have a nuclear disaster. Smart on focusing the fight on terror to Afghanistan. Smart on legislating against the threat of nuclear ploliferation. Smart on the Economy. Smart on improving our image across the world…..

I love this man.

Good luck Senator. WIth the press gushing over Obama like a newborn baby (although given his lack of experience, everything he does is a first time thing), you'll need it.

"Mental recession", sure looks as if people have plenty of money. I cannot believe the amount of money spent to buy an election. Is your vote for sale? I will write Hillary on my ballot, no matter how much these jerks receive or spend. It boggles my mind to see the waste of hard earned money. When will the well dry up? Fuel, food and the loss of jobs, will have to effect the cash flow, eventually.

Bulldog   July 19th, 2008 9:44 am ET

McCain has the worst grades from top military veteran groups.

— Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America gave McCain a grade of D for his record of voting against veterans. (By contrast, Obama got a B+.)

– Disabled Veterans of America noted McCain’s dismal 20 percent voting record on veterans’ issues. (Obama had an 80 percent.)

– In a list of “Key Votes,” Vietnam Veterans of America (VVA) notes McCain “Voted Against Us” 15 times and “Voted For Us” only 8. (Obama voted for VVA 12 times, and against only once.)

It looks like Obama is getting from average person in the street all the help $68 average while McCain has good lobbyest sources where he can achieve things easily. Considering the odds at start obama has achieved very well to create the movement and momentum. If he wins i hope and works with same energy then he may get the USA true respect back in nationas of world. What i have seen till now i would vote for obama but still there is long way to go.

First McCain said Obama was irresponsible for saying he would attack Al Queida in Pakistan if their was solid intelligence. Since calling Obama 'irresponsilbe' our miliarty has attacked Al Queida 4 times in Pakistan.

McCain calls Obama naive and reckless for wanting to set a timetable to get out of Iraq. Next thing you know the sovereign Iraq government demands we set a timetable and Bush has given in but would rather call it a "time horizon".

McCain calls Obama reckless and an appeaser for saying he will sit down with leaders of countries unfriendly to the U.S. 3 months later the U.S. successfully appeases and negoitiates with N. Korea ('axis of evil') and they begin to dismantle their nuclear plants. Now they are doing the same with Iran.

Obama has been saying Afganistan needs more troops and equipment for a year now while McCain barely mentioned it. Obama makes a big speech about it and McCain follows Obama's coattails and states what Obama has been saying all along.

Who has the judgement?

NotFallingInLine.org   July 19th, 2008 9:54 am ET

Less than half?

So what? Obama was outspending Hillary Clinton two-to-one, three-to-one, four-to-one in Texas, Pennsylvania, and on and on. Still Clinton beat him time after time.

Axelrod, Obama's "brain," thinks like a rhino with a hammer that can't find the head of the nail no matter how hard, how many times, or how loudly it keeps trying to hit it.

The only way Obama wins in November is if he manipulates the rules such that the contest is decided by caucuses, where he can send in his goons to step on our democracy even more than they already have.

Hypocrits for Obama   July 19th, 2008 9:54 am ET

We ALREADY know that this year it has become a positive thing for a candidate to raise an obscene amount of money JUST to buy the election.

I thought Americans were opposed to money being the deciding factor in who wins?

Does it mean that fron now on ONLY people with bandwagons full of celebrity money will be able to run for president?

That is why we NEED campaign finance reform and all candidates must be made to accept public financing.

This wastefulness from Obama just to self-promote is disgusting.

syl   July 19th, 2008 9:55 am ET

Does Obama believe he can buy this election?

Anna   July 19th, 2008 9:56 am ET

That is how the least candidate wins   July 19th, 2008 9:57 am ET

The man of change, Obama, has wasted MORE money campaigning than any of the Old Washington Insiders before him ever did.

This is hypocritical, sad, and obscene in light of how the average American is struggling to survive.

Is THIS the change you all believe in?

I am opposed to purchasing the presidency and eliminating more qualified candidates JUST on the basis of money.

Democrats have forgotten their own ideals   July 19th, 2008 10:01 am ET

That is because Obama is the candidate of change who supports campaign finance reform…. and opposes millions being wasted on campaigns….oh wait… that was BEFORE Obama became a celebrity backed pop icon capable of OUTspending everyone else.

So much for the starving, struggling poor people.

The amount Obama has wasted just to force his way into the white house could feed a small Nation.

The democrats have lost their way and it will cost them votes.

PROPAGANDA RULES   July 19th, 2008 10:07 am ET

I have a hard time with how this wastefulness on campaigning is now being turned into a positive thing- JUST because Obama is the hypocrit throwing the money around to buy his unqualified way into the white house.

Americans have been criticizing this sort of waste for decades and have been pushing for campaign finance reform and public funding to provide a fair playing field.

Now that it benefits Obama, HE and the democratic party are suddenly gleeful at the millions being wasted on PROPAGANDA.

death blow   July 19th, 2008 10:08 am ET

Sadly, Americans no longer vote for the best candidate- we vote for who runs a better FUNDED slick and glitzy campaign.

Shame on Obama and shame on the democratic party for this turn about on their ideals.

Not to worry ! The super-rich and the big companies will feed the RNC. His campaign war chest is just the radical-redneck-fund … pocket change, peanuts, mad money for the Republicans.

Another DEM out the door   July 19th, 2008 10:12 am ET

I have taken Obama's lofty rhetoric about not being red states or blue states and about uniting in bipartisanship to heart.

For the FIRST time in 35 years of voting democratic, I have broken with my own party.

The BEST candidate is NOT- and never WAS, Obama.

This wasteful spending to buy the election is unbefitting to the platform and ideals of the democratic party- and contrary to Obama's own stated position in support of restricted, public financing.

IN THIS PRIMARY SEASON, The democrats have become indistinguishable from the republicans they CONTINUE to criticize.

Doofus Cape Coral Fl   July 19th, 2008 10:12 am ET

Is it possible that Republicans are begining to " see the light"? Are they prepared to take some responsibility for the disaster of the Bush administration? George Bush's immaturity and incompentence was evident as early as 2000 yet the Republicans choose to put him back in office. They got what they wanted but do they want what they got?

mama coo   July 19th, 2008 10:14 am ET

It is really sad that it takes this amount of money to run for higher office. The average citizen could never even consider such a run. The amount of money spent and the length of the Presidential election is utterly ridiculous. Those that don't already know everything about the candidates are just not listening and don't care anyway.

Changing of the guard   July 19th, 2008 10:16 am ET

Well, Obama is pulling in millions of NEW voters- people who never cared enough to vote before… but are now BUYING the office of the president for their rock star candidate.

Who knows if they will ever vote again.

Meanwhile… millions of democrats- who have voted democratic for 20, 30, 40 or 50 years… are now defecting. These people never HAVE believed in BUYing the elections. We supported public financing and are appalled at this sham.

We will see what the fall out from the change of guard: out with the old lifelong democratic base, in with the new forceful newbie leftists- will ultimately have on the democratic party down the road.

P.U.M.A - true democrat for fair camPAINs   July 19th, 2008 10:22 am ET

This primary has been an eye opener for this life long (35 yrs) democrat.

The democratic primary was downright ugly and hateful.

Obama has played slick and dirty politics of old- the kind that would make republicans proud.

The attacks- on Hillary Clinton- came NOT from the republicans, but from Obama, his campaign, his pundits, the biased media, his hateful supporters and from Pelosi, Dean, Richardson and the DNC.

PEOPLE… this was democrats attacking and swiftboating other democrats. Democrats hating with vile, filthy, vulgar name-calling debasing comments against other democrats.

If this is the new direction of the democratic party- to gleefully tear apart your own best candidate and recklessly divide the party just to steal a nomination- and then go counter to your own message and SPEND SPEND SPEND until you buy the white house… then say goodbye now to the party.

The hope, unity and change message has been all show, perception and hype.

I think it is interesting that CNN (the political ticker) reports on so many non-issues involving Obama, but has of yet to post the story about McCain involved in a serious security breach by announcing to the world that Obama is supposed to be in Iraq within the next couple of days.

McCain, with all his experience, makes major CIC mistakes or misspeaks day in and day out, and the MSM including CNN, has to wait to have a negative story on Obama before they can mention it.

I can guarantee you is Obama made an ape - rape joke, it would be on 30 minutes of each our and pushed at the top of the blog as often as possible.

Well that is just great. He was expecting one hundred million and only got 52 mil. Obama is a serial flip flopper and the more the people find out about him to less they are going to support him. He will do or say anything to win. McCain will win the general election if he is the nominee. Theeeere is only two possible candidates that can defeat and they are Al Gore or Hillary Clinton.. The PUMA movement is growing day by day and by the time of the National convention they are going to be in position to have Hillary's name in nomination and if the super delegates have any sense at all and want to win the general election they will cast their ballots for Hillary.

So… I won't be voting for Obama, either.

I prefer qualified, experienced, humble politicians who DO- and don't blow their own horns.

Hillary would have worked tirelessly to gain UNIVERSAL health care for all Americans. Obama will work tirelessly to grab for power and buy his way into the white house.

I am ashamed at how McCain is putting out these negative, untrue ads about Obama. Can't we defend our position on the truths of our positions. If we can't say anything positive about ourselves, what does that say about us?
This is the party of Lincoln. Where is our morality now? How far we have fallen, being beholden to large corporations. It is like the days of the english aristocracy, with lords & ladies. If we don't get our act together there will be dire consequences. The republican party will be remembered as a party of hate, war & negativity.
Now I want to know, does McCain feel ashamed of how he has been in lockstep with the President? It seems he wants it both ways, "I like him, I like him not".

Hillary should mount an Independent run for November. She owes nothing to Obama, the DNC or Howard Dean. Country first, then party. BTW, she would win.

Dude   July 19th, 2008 10:52 am ET

It seems that McCain is not living up to the spirit of the public financing he has decided to accept. He takes and relies on most of his money from GOP, not personal donors. The ironic thing is that he has knocked Obama for not taking public financing, when Obama's money predominately comes from individual donors. If that is not the spirit of public financing, I don't know what is!
PS- CNN how can you call "first contrast ad of the general" a contrast ad? Do you mean "it contrasts with the truth"?

James   July 19th, 2008 10:52 am ET

These CNN headlines are becoming more biased in McCain's favor. Seriously though, McCain's "contrast ad" instead of "negative ad" or "attack ad" like these kinds of ads have always been called? Also Obama raises more than double McCain and the headline is that McCain broke his own fundraising record?

Why is it whenever anyone mentions Obama, that person is charged with racism?

It is sickening to me to hear all the crap that some of them write. I wish they could have shared a cell with Bud and John. Think about what they have now because of guys like McCain and Day, They have a freedom unknown to mankind since the beginning of time. With people like Obama in charge, they probably would still be on the plantation picking cotton.

The Election from Hell:

One is buying the election. From the party who CAN NOT lose due to the prevailing anti-Bush (anti-McCain) sentiment.

The other does not need to do anything at all to win. And, he is from the party that CAN NOT win due to a Nation eager for change.
But then, He is up against an installed nominee who has been rejected by more than 50% of his own party.

So the shoo in keeps on campaigning and raising monsy- why, if he is the shoo in that everyone wants?

The other stumbles and falls… but is still better than the demagogue who destroyed his own party just to steal his way to the white house.

I really am tired of "journalists" who link the amount of money raked in by candidates as a measure of their ability, skill, etc. More money is being raised in this election than ever before in history.

It's sickening. Apparently Obama and his followers know no limit on greed. What happens if there's money left over? Does it disappear into one of those secret coffers?

In a country with poor people suffering, huge donors would rather fund the elitist in all this. Obama should be ashamed to take money from elitist lawyers and corporations when people are hungry.

What happened to all concern for the ordinary guy?

And what happened to all the talk about campaign finance reform? The only mechanism provided to limit this obscenity is the candidates agreeing to run their campaigns on the dollars okayed by the American taxpayer, and Obama is a liar on this one. No attempt to "refine" this position.

Obama spins again   July 19th, 2008 11:15 am ET

Why is Obama still trying to raise money? Why does he even NEED to campaign? Aren't we sick of the last 8 years and dying for Obama to SAVE us?

I thought this year the Nation was begging for a democrat. I thought the NATION was eager for change- i.e, Obama.

I thought everyone was going to the voting booth in NOV looking for the lever labeled with the big "D" to pull?

I thought everyone rallied to and worshipped the great Obama, and he was the inevitable shoo in?

What… all that was propaganda and media hype and Obama spin all along?

nina   July 19th, 2008 11:17 am ET

MB, Ga. The RNC is helping McCain. What is the DNC doing for Obama in fundraising. Whlie it is true that Obama is raising millions, the DNC needs to come in to compete with the RNC. Remember that we are out of public financing.

Anyone who thinks this is going to be a landslide in Obama's favor - how much you want to bet on it?

Obama may well win - he SHOULD win - but it isn't going to be easy.

If Bush was able to fool the American voters twice, then Obama's
record fund raising results would suggest that he may very well
repeat that feat in November.

Bill, Streamwood, IL   July 19th, 2008 11:24 am ET

That's because Candidate McCain is less than half the campaigner Candidate Obama is.

Maybe if McCain would stop hiding behind questionable surrogate hacks like Bob Day, he would be perceived in a more positive light.

I doubt that McCain will give the voters the opporunity to find out.

Darlene Smith   July 19th, 2008 11:24 am ET

WOW! What a terrific slamming of McCain and his wife on your biographies last night. Anyone watching could hardly vote for the dishonorable McCain and his drug addicted wife. It was good that you never mentioned Cindy's Smile Foundation for children in poor countries with cleft lips and all the time and money being spent on giving them a real chance in life, which is how she met her adopted black child; or her organization for clearing land mines from war zones or any and all things that would give people an idea that the McCains were decent human beings. Never a good word for McCain is a good way for you to use your station's influence to get the Democrats back into the White House. Anderson is a good actor. but his reporting is what is dishonorable. How do you sleep at night?

Mike   July 19th, 2008 11:25 am ET

I continue to be amazed at the ignorance of Obama supporters who inhabit this and other blogs. They flaunt their stupidity and naivite for all to see. Having lived overseas for 15 years, I can see why so many foreigners see the American electorate as incredibly uninformed.

For those of you who think that Obama will lift the US standing in world opinion, you need to leave home more often and meet individual from other countries. Not just visit tourist sites for a couple of weeks then come back to the US considering yourselves "worldly".

suzyku   July 19th, 2008 11:26 am ET

I can't imagine why in the world anyone in their right mind would either contribute to this old out of touch man, or why they would vote for him!

Tony   July 19th, 2008 11:28 am ET

If there is anything that McCain is NOT going to do, it's go down in flames. As much as Obama supporters love to constantly talk about that, it just isn't going to happen. The polls are still relatively close, and McCain will pick up points when they debate. I know, I know…you Obama people will say your Hero will tear him apart. Guess what? McCain's been there, done that in debates and he's pretty good himself.

Bottom line, regardless of who wins in November, it's going to be closer than most people think. At this point, the Obama and McCain fanatics are already on board, and the "undecideds" are still up for grabs. If they haven't already gravitated to Obama, when all he was doing was his "platitude" stuff, it's likely going to get more difficult when he has to sooner or later talk about specifics. If McCain wasn't as moderate as he is, I'd say it's over. But both McCain and Obama can appeal to the moderates (in Obama's case it's because he's trying to convince people that's where he is, whereas for McCain he truly is one).

We'll see. But keep telling yourselves, Obama folks, that it's going to be a landslide if it makes you feel better. Smart money knows otherwise.

Chris from NY   July 19th, 2008 11:29 am ET

But RNC is the money machine. They have raised morey money than Obama and DNC combined. That's part of the reson Obama declined to take part in the public funding because DNC and Obama campaign would have been out spent. Thank goodness for such smart move by Obama.

Tony   July 19th, 2008 11:29 am ET

By the way, you also need to understand that the people that contribute to these blogs are anything BUT a random cross-section of America. They're going to tend to be Obama supporters. When it comes voting time you're going to be surprised.

Anyone but these 2   July 19th, 2008 11:35 am ET

I'm tired of this 2 party crap. Before I die, I'd like to see Americans routinely have a 3rd choice in these important elections. But the 2 established parties tell you "you're wasting your vote" if you vote for a 3rd party candidate. That's simply not true. I wasted my vote by voting AGAINST the Republican Bush (by voting for Kerry, who I didn't like), when I should have voted for a third party candidate, just to build up another option for future elections. I think we can scrap the current election (it's the worst choice of candidates in my lifetime), and start telling these politicians we want more choices by NOT voting for the 2 party system. Personally, I'll probably vote Nader, but we should all pick someone other than Obama or McCain, no matter how obscure. Let them know we MEAN IT when we say we want change. We need to get the ball rolling. It's not a waste at all if we can create more options for the future.

Franky   July 19th, 2008 11:35 am ET

With the way the RNC is raising money, Senator McCain doesn't need to worry about nothing. Plus, there is a major discrepancy in all of this. They both raise money differently and I gotta say, it couldn't have been better…

Yes, the money spent on the campaigns is ridiculous, but it's not as though the money is going to the candidate. It goes to employ people, television/newspaper ads, hotels, restaurants, printing companies, etc., etc. So in a weird way, the money does help stimulate the economy. It's better than giving it to companies who make their products in foreign countries. Hmmm… well, I think I just convinced myself to donate again to Obama!!!

I think CNN is so irresponsible… How can anyone call a site that promulgates liberal rhetoric and attracts only liberals… The news presented in such a biased and manipulative way is not just a disservice to America, it's a complete abhorrance of the American spirit. Freedom of speech is a kindred right of our people, however, why should such freedoms continue to act as propaganda to a weakminded public. Like lambs to slaughter, ratings and convenient truths continue to keep our citizenry at bay. Why should the democrats own populist messages? Why should the republicans own morality. The two party system is not perfect and it's time we stop seeing issues as "democrat" and "republican" and start seeing them as problems. It's our differences that prevent us from seeing our similarities… stop the hate and lets get to work~!

Farrell, Houston, Tx   July 19th, 2008 11:43 am ET

McCain hammers Obama on foreign policy and the war. When Rumsfeld told the Generals in Iraq to stop complaining about needing better equipment for the troops that were being killed in large numbers(Rumsfeld said you go to war with what you have), did McCain do anything, no, he said nothing. You would think McCain would have been the first to fight for what the troops needed, yet he remained silent. Now he expects support from Americans when he didn't support our troops. Think about it.

McCain is trapped in a time warp. He wants to go back and win the war in Viet Nam (substitute Iraq). He wants to make the G8 only democratic nations, starting up the cold war with Russia again. It's a strange mindset and so dangerous to our modern world. We need to figure out how everyone can play nice together, not keep creating divisions in the world. McCain is a dangerous choice!

Bobby from MS   July 19th, 2008 11:50 am ET

I hate once again to break it to all of you liberals again…. but white people are not going to vote for Obama because he is black, they are not going to vote for him because they disagree with his ideas, his religious views( ex. he said there is more than one way to get to heaven), and becasue he wants to increase the capital gains tax from 35 to 39 %. For all the liberals who can't do math this means a person would be paying more than 50% of their paycheck to the government before state taxes, utilities, car insurance, morgage, and so on would be paid.

To imply that whites will not vote for Obama because he is black is ignorant on liberals parts. I personally would have voted for him until the Jerimiah Wright and bittergate stories broke.

And for all the people who keep complaining about Iraq and Afghanistan I agree with you. I think we should just go over and kick the stuffing out of those idiots make an example of them and bring the troops home. One last thought. I am in the military and I want to win, so I don't want to hear any liberal crap from you who have never served your country .

CA2NY   July 19th, 2008 11:53 am ET

Joe Reed, Obama may have been "smart" to opt out of public financing, but he gave his word and he broke it when it was no longer convenient for him to keep it. He has no character.

Also, how in the WORLD was Obama "smarter than anyone else on Iraq"? Obama said the surge wouldn't work; it did. Obama said that Iraq's "civil war" would never end; it has (read CNN's headline right now about the Sunni group reentering the Iraqi govt after a year-long boycott).

Joe, you may "love this man," but you cannot trust him and you cannot respect him. Obama has never drafted ANY significant piece of legislation and has NO experience making him capable of leading the free world. He's a great talker; so what? Ask Israel how good talking is to people who want to annihilate you, to wipe you off the face of the map.

If Obama gets elected, how long before another attack on American soil? Our enemies recognize his weakness and they will exploit it and America will suffer for it.

LATINOS FOR OBAMA 2008!

Auntie Coosa, Blairsville, Georgia, USofA   July 19th, 2008 11:55 am ET

McCain only needs half of what Obama brings in.

1- Obama's "support team" runs into the high hundreds, he has a lot of overhead.
2- Obama has already sent a million dollars to his Marxist cousin in Kenya, Raila Odinga, so that he could undermine the democratically elected Kenyan President. What other Marxists in what other foreign Countries is Obama supporting?
3- Obama has to subvert his true self by running television and radio and print media advertisements which attempt to show him as something other than who he truly is.

McCain has less overhead. McCain has name recognition. One of McCain's advertisements counters dozens of Obama's.

But the BIGGEST reason McCain doesn't need as much money as Obama is that Senator BH Obama and his minions have no sense of humor. Senator JS McCain's sense of wry and dry humor is refreshing and memorable. Senator McCain's jokes on himself are repeated hundreds if not thousands of times and bring his name before the public. Senator Obama's (and the Liberal's) lack of humor is his biggest flaw.

Angel   July 19th, 2008 11:56 am ET

Steve   July 19th, 2008 12:10 pm ET

Reading these blogs is like reading some teenage love notes. You Obamabots are so out of touch with reality that it's not even funny. Let's just look at the "smart" Obama and what he said about Afghanistan and Iraq. He said Iraq was a distraction and opposed the surge. Well he was wrong. Bin Laden himself proclaimed iraq the front and center battleground in war against the west. Now the bin Laden crowd is soundly defeated in iraq because of the surge (which again Obama opposed), the battleground for them has shifted to Afghanistan. And you guys think Obama's a prophet?
And who was it that said he was "smart" on economy? Read your history book. Look up Jimmy Carter and 1979. Obama's tax and spend policies have been tried before by a peanut farmer from Georgia. Those economic policies brought us 18% inflation and 12% unemployment. Real smart. You Obamabots are laughable.

Tony   July 19th, 2008 12:10 pm ET

Money ABSOLUTELY does not buy votes…right on, "Hello"!. I don't even know if there have been studies showing efficacy of political advertising campaigns, and in fact I think you could make a strong case for them having the opposite effect in many cases (e.g., turning off potential supporters and/or enraging supporters of the other candidate). It's a pretty tricky balance you have to manage.

I think what WILL buy votes is performance and messages from debates (and if Obama supporters think he'll blow McCain out of the water, you obviously haven't seen McCain in these settings–it's going to be close). I wish we could get to these sooner rather than later, and ALL OF US could stop nitpicking away at every stupid little thing that comes along. Instead, let's identify the 6-7 major issues that we all want to hear about, then respectfully listen to both Obama and McCain address those, and then pull the little handle and vote our conscience. Between the name calling and ridiculous intellectual arrogance on BOTH sides (and by the way, not ALL smart people are Obama supporters) we're causing our own divide through diviseness.

The one thing that could dramatically alter the polls is the choice of running mate. We'll see who Obama picks, but if McCain picks Romney that could definitely pick up some points. And for those of you who would point out that they weren't "tight" during the campaign, look at how Democrats are doing the same thing (HRC and Obama are tight now, but I don't THINK that was quite how it was before, was it???). Just like Democrats, Republicans can pull together for the good of the country.

Ryan   July 19th, 2008 12:17 pm ET

Back in January 2007, Obama is the one who opposed bringing more troops into Iraq (a strategy that was backed by John McCain) but now that the surge works, which allows the army to redeploy troops from Iraq to Afghanistan, Obama now jumps up and down saying that is what he has been saying all along. Obama is just lucky that the surge works, and now wants to take credit for Afghanistan. This man is a fraud and an empty suit.

Charlotte.. i wait tables for a living, i do not make a lot of money, my health benefits at work have been suspended, i live in LA so gas out here is at $4.77 a gallon, my rent just went up food is at an all time high yet i still donate to Obama's Campaign and will continue to do so until the last vote is counted. i felt the need to tell you this because i don't feel it is a waist but an investment, in our future as a country and as a people. i donate because i don't think i can afford not to. i donate to OHB because i know that Mccain is getting unlimited funds through the loop holes his people found in the PF, i donate because OHB has inspired the people of the US and as we will see this week, the world. i donate because 4 years ago i took for granted Bush would lose and i regret my complacency. i donate to OHB because i believe he can and will lead this country well. i donate to OHB because WE CAN NOT AFFORD ANOTHER CORRUPT REPUBLICAN ADMINISTREATION. i donate because i want my/our country back!!!!
i set up a donation pg on BHO website for the 134 men who died aboard the USS Forrestal 7/29/67 perhaps you might want to make a donation

It's a shame, when so many people are suffering financially in this country; that "these folks" have so much money to waste on "political stuff' and " campaign ads", that really don't carry that much importance, in the "real scheme" of every day issues and people lives. Why not use that money, for "something"; that has a "longer reaching " effect and will help more people? I guess, that is "the nature, of the beast"; called politics……………………………………

Money is the root of all evil. Obama sure does have a lot of money.

Gary Chandler in Canada   July 19th, 2008 12:18 pm ET

So McCain is trying soooo hard to look like a military genius by predicting terrorist attacks in Iraq. Let’s say these ‘spectacular’ attacks do occur. If you Google ‘splurge Iraq’ it was widely predicted from many sources that violence will resume when the bribe money paid to the terrorists in Iraq runs out. (BTW It is not implausible those millions of untracked dollars are being used to rearm in Iraq and/or support ‘spectacular’ terrorism in other regions.)
If they do not occur, it will be “I told you I succeeded in Iraq!”
(((Either way, he will say he was correct!?)))
Was McCain on the ship when Bush declared victory in Iraq a couple of years ago?
General Clark was accurate in his analysis of McCain’s lack of credentials. The Vietcong had no use for prisoners who would not supply information. The real heroes were killed. Should a bravery medal count when your daddy applies for it?

Mike…
I'll take "lack of experience" over poor judgement every time.

Two of the most "experienced" people in Washington are Don Rumsfeld and Dick Cheney.

What has McCain's "experience" shown us? No understanding of the economy, going after the wrong enemy, and a vision of the US in 1950.

Will-South Dakota   July 19th, 2008 12:23 pm ET

McCain is rehashed Bush……offering no new iniatives of his own. With Iraq wanting the US out period and setting a timetable to leave ,Obama was right all along. Mission Accomplished!

Calling Wolf, John, Jack, Roland, Crowley, and all men and women in CNN.

Can you please ask Sen. McCain what he was thinking or what he wanted ti achieve when he went to his fundraising audience in MI to give details of when his opponent, Sen. Barack Obama was expected to land in Iraq or even anywhere. He must be allowed to go away with this like numerous reckless statement he had made. If he is the one with national security experience, if he the that should be trusted with national security then he should know better than you and I that Obama trip was been kept in scerecy for obvious security concerns, please do not let him go away with this.

Rise America Rise   July 19th, 2008 12:25 pm ET

McCain will lose, McCain will lose, McCain will lose.

I don't know how else to say it, people don't want him or his ilk anywhere near the White House. I mean, he even spends money on ads saying Obama hasn't been to Iraq in a long time, on the day that Obama is visiting over there. Talk about a short lived ad and a complete waste of money, not to mention the judgement (or lack thereof) of a senile old man.

What a bunch of hypocrites Obama supporters are.

Dems are stuck in the fix they rigged   July 19th, 2008 12:29 pm ET

To Obama supporters:

If Obama will win in a landslide… why do you need to keep blogging to defend and promote him?

Why does he keep ON campaigning? Why does he need to spend MORE and MORE money?

AmeriKa is ready for change, right? The republican brand is out of favor- so that the LEAST democrat is better than the MOST republican.
Democrats don't have to worry… no one wants another republican.

So, what is the hang up for Obama? Why is he still pandering for EVERY vote?

Isn't cheating his way into power working out as well as hoped and expected?

Where is this landslide in this year when NO democrat can lose. Obama should be winning just by carrying the "democrat" label… but instead he needs to waste millions on self-promotion.

Maggie Muggins From Selwyn   July 19th, 2008 12:33 pm ET

The money won't matter McCain can only criticize Obama to take attention off his policies and priorities.

Sooner or later people will get the chance to compare each candidate's position on all the issues and compare them to what they feel is in their best interest. They will also be able to see McCain's policies are almost identical with those of the current administration. They have to be or he will completely lose his base.

The fact you supported the war and the surge will only carry so much weight even with the most uninformed of the public and the future will show through.

Serge (Lutz, FL)   July 19th, 2008 12:33 pm ET

McCain better hope "HopeBama" falters on his overseas trip this week, cause if not, then when he gets back and fills Invesco Field with over 75,000 Americans chanting "YES WE CAN" at the Democratic National Convention in Denver, it will be all over for Senator McCain.

To borrow a quote, "Hey McCain, what you gonna do brotha when Barack and all of the Obamamaniacs run wild on youuuuuuu?"

Obama is better because he can raise more money with Oprah's backing.

But does he have Oprah and Caroline and the Media on his side…. that is the support that installs our nominees these days.

A year ago he wasn't even staying afloat–he's a great man and has a large following of conservative and patriotic citizens behind him. He's holding his own.

Both of the major do not have the exclusive loyalty of all Americans. A lot of us believe many of the personal liberties, moral foundations, and historical values of self reliance and personal independence are being threatened by an evergrowing government stranglehold at all levels of government. We fear governments pursuit of it's own existence and growth ahead of the citizens they are supposed to be serving.

There really can be REAL change beginning with "we the people" voting in the correct box on election day.

Obama is funded by Oil and Drug companies… and he has Oprah to finance him.

Obama doesn't need public financing… he can waste MORE money than that on his own…

The republicans are scared………..you know it and I know it, but the country will not take 4 more years of 15 billion dollars a month war, money that we need in the usa. Wake up people this is money that should be going to help our economy, our people. This message is for real republicans, those that understand the need to end this pointless war that is killing our country.
