Sen. Barack Obama will visit several world leaders over the next few weeks.

(CNN) — Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama is in Afghanistan on a multistop overseas trip for meetings with international leaders but with an eye on the U.S. presidential race back home.

Obama's trip, which includes visits to Iraq, Jordan, Israel, Germany, France and the United Kingdom, is intended to bolster his foreign policy credentials before U.S. voters.

"This is the campaign trail via satellite — pictures for the rhetoric back home," CNN's Candy Crowley said, adding that the trip was intended to demonstrate that Obama was up to the job of taking a lead role on the international stage.

"The question is, is he tough enough to stand up for America but graceful enough to improve [its] image?" Crowley said.

In a recent Washington Post/ABC News poll, 48 percent of registered voters said Obama would make a good commander in chief, compared with 72 percent for his Republican rival, John McCain.

Our nation would make a rebound if Obama is our next president. I hope the media and my fellow voters can stay focused on the issues that most directly and most profoundly affect human life here in our country and around the world, rather than become distracted by relatively minor issues (such as, for example, whether or not states can decide if homosexuals can get marriage benefits).

Responses to other comments:

Publicity stunt? McCain has mocked Obama for not making such a trip! Also, a responsible, sincere candidate would make the trip.

Why is Obama still campaigning? LOL! Bush got elected a second time, despite his lack of leadership after 9/11 and despite initiating a war with Iraq! Also, look at McCain's current support; it's only 5% less than Obama's right now. People still don't connect the Republican party with *everything* wrong about practical living conditions (banking woes, gas prices, terror/paranoia levels, etc). That's the ongoing challenge Obama faces, all the way up to election day. It's easy to spread rumors and create distractions, but it's expensive to inform people and correct misconceptions, and this is why Obama will probably have to outspend McCain by 2 to 1 all the way to election day.

And regarding "the new guy" analogy someone made: Sometimes the enthusiastic, eager "new guy" in the office proves to be a person who turns things around and gives the company new energy and success for the long term.

Regarding the "phony" charges: Phony about what? Obama has integrity. Obama is on a trip to get a closer look at circumstances in different countries, just as he said he would. In general, Obama has made every effort to do the right thing in accordance with evolving conditions. Sometimes this means changing plans and making compromises, but always with the goal of doing what is best.

Jennifer   July 19th, 2008 4:17 pm ET

To the person spelling America with a "k" above and questioning why Obama continue to campaign if he will win by a landslide all I have to say is that situations change. Opponents attack and if you don't respond you get hurt. I have confidence that Obama will do well even fantastic if he is elected but I know there are people like you who would do anything to prevent that. So I work hard to get him elected because I beleive it is the best thing for our country.

Dems are stuck in the fix they rigged July 19th, 2008 12:30 pm ET

To Obama supporters:

If Obama will win in a landslide… why do you need to keep blogging to defend and promote him?

Why does he keep ON campaigning? Why does he need to spend MORE and MORE money?

AmeriKa is ready for change, right? The republican brand is out of favor- so that the LEAST democrat is better than the MOST republican.
Democrats don't have to worry… no one wants another republican.

So, what is the hang up for Obama? Why is he still pandering for EVERY vote?

Isn't cheating his way into power working out as well as hoped and expected?

Where is this landslide in this year when NO democrat can lose. Obama should be winning just by carrying the "democrat" label… but instead he needs to waste millions on self-promotion.

What an arrogant opportunist. He and his thugs can kiss my butt!!! He wants to now go to Afghanistan and as Hillary pointed out months ago he should have been working what he was elected for and done something as head of the oversight hearings on Afghanistan. But NOPE, he's been too busy raising money to run for the leader of America.

This guy is creepy to say the least. He doesn't speak for this American and he has no record to prove he can accomplish anything. "Just words".. words you can Xerox.

No way is Obama fit to lead this great nation. He's hardly an American himself.

Go away you and your thug losers… won't forget how your money and bullies cheated your way in the caucuses.

Thanks to the Surge and our troops in Iraq, the Iraq Govt can ask for combat troop reductions and eventual withdrawl. Obama and his media groupies will be all over this to try to take credit for what has already been done without having to SURRENDER first.

It is truely scary that Obama, the media and his supporters are so naive as to think that this completely unproven, untested and inexperienced person will somehow make the world change. All he has to do is show up and they will all Love us again. When he is elected he can ATTACK Pakistan!!! to get Bin Laden and all the terrorists will just lay down their arms and the "phonie war on terrorism" (asthey call it) will be over.

At least lets make Obama answer tough questions about his policy ideas so the voters can see who he really is; I think they will make the level headed choice and not elect him President.

Tom   July 19th, 2008 3:55 pm ET

Its good that the Prime Minister of Iraq has publicly supported President Obama's foreign policy on troop withdrawal. They will have to work very closely together over the next few years to pull Iraq out of the trashcan that Bush has put it in.

McCain is wrong on the future of U.S. Foreign/Domestic policy and Sen. Obama is right!

Iran even called the nuclear TALKS with the European Union productive. Let me say it again—TALKS! More often than not, war is not the most pervasive form of achieving the common good. On foreign and domestic policy, Sen. Obama's judgement has been impeccable with very few exceptions. Sen. McCain has sided with President Bush's style of foreign and domestic policy, which has achieved very little.

Hats off to Condi Rice for finally convincing this administration to take a more conciliatory tone with North Korea and Iran.

McCain is stuck with the Bush policies and has to promote them to keep the conservative base. To try and cover this up McCain tried to triangulate between himself, Bush & Obama and trashed Bush in the process.

The White House just hit back and gave it to McCain right between the eyes by releasing the al maliki email and saying it was an error.

McCain's entire campaign has been one gigantic blunder after another with him putting his feet in his mouth on a daily basis. My only question would be is this a result of age or is it truly just a sign of him having below average intelligence.

I've worked with guys like this before. They brown-nose their way into a corporate leadership position on the "fast track" and know absolutely nothing about the job they are supposed to be doing. They got the job by smoozing the managers but usually end up relying on their staff to cover their arses.

That is, until they are forced to make a real decision all on their own or show true leadership in a crisis – and then they crash and burn.

Is this what we want for our country?

Obama's trip will be a new beginning and firmly plant the seeds for a better world under strong leadership from the U.S. as well as helping the country get some of it's moral authority back.

Likely many Americans don't realize how their country's image abroad is an integral part of their growth and stability for future generations.

It's hard to sugar coat what John McCain will portray on the world stage with his memory lapses and silly over pronounced grin. This trip of Obama's has turned into a three ring circus. I think it is nothing but a huge Grandstand play by Obama. The Pope did not get this much attention, shame on the Media for blowing this out of proportion. Obama calls this a fact finding mission yet he has already laid out his plans, isn't that backward thinking. Without his advisers on foreign policy he is dead in the water. Those leaders in Europe are not stupid, they will see him for what he is. Nothing but a glory seeker who will do and say anything to get elected. By the way, has anyone ever noticed that he thinks he is never wrong?? "To err is human" maybe his is not human.

Jerry from Oregon   July 19th, 2008 2:31 pm ET

contrary to what McCain and company have said about Obama's trip to Afghanastan and Iraq Obama was exactly right in laying out his concept of policy in the region before he visits. The US goverment bases US policy decisions on the needs, interests and values of the United States of America.

Obama laid out what he believes should be the overall US goals and objectives in the regions; specifics could alter the timing a little but the overal objectives and missions need to be defined from the home for interests of the United States.

the resources of the United States need to be allocated based on the overall interests and ability of the United States, not the perceived needs of commanders serving in foreign countries. Yes, a shrewd commander in chief will listen to the input of these commanders; but a true CIC will set the mission that those commanders are working towards.

McCain is a dangerous risk. He told a group at a fundraiser yesterday that Obama was expected to land in Iraq this weekend. I heard the actual audio on the news last night.

He was willing to risk the safety of his candidate, be it intentional or a slip, either way, this is a slip up that cannot be tolerated.

Between this and the lies that he tells daily, McCain and Hillary Supporters for McCain and PUMA need to really look at this man, watch his so-called town hall meetings, do your own research and stop taking all your cues from the media. You will find that your candidate is far less than what he portrays.

Jewel - Hallsboro NC   July 19th, 2008 2:21 pm ET

He is tough enough and he will make a difference.

Chuck   July 19th, 2008 2:21 pm ET

This is a good thing. What I can not understand is how McCain can stand there and slam Obama for not going to Iraq, Afganistan and other countries; then turn around and slam him again for going. Talking about being confusing, McCain can not have it both ways.
It is also Ironic that the Iraqi PM stated that He fully supports Obama's withdrawal time table and plan, stating it works best for Iraq and the Iraqi people. He further stated that there would be room for adjustment of that time table based upon changing situations.
So my question is this; who is more in touch, and who is more likely to meet and accomplish those foreign policy goals and needs that bring balance to the needs of America and the world. Indicators is that person is Obama. Especially since Bush now appears to be taking his cue from Obama as far as Afganistan, Iraq and Iran are concerned.

Isn't running for president all "about politics?" Aren't McCain's trips, and comments about Obama's trip, and comments about Obama's need to go on a trip, all "about politics?"

Given Obama's huge popularity overseas, perhaps the trip will have fringe benefits for the American public, and begin to repair the global view that America is narcissist, war-mongering and out of touch with reality.

Right?
So that would make me an expert in foreign policy because I have visited over 100 countries? Please consider me for the Secretary of State.
Just because McCaint has visited Afganistan and Iraq under heavy security and has been shown what they wanted him to see does not make him qualified and it wont help Obama much either. What can he learn from a quick trip??

Karen   July 19th, 2008 1:56 pm ET

I am kind of impressed seeing Obama and the official from Afghanistan hugging each other. They looked so comfortable with each other. McCain looked so out of touch when he was in Iraq. I feel that Iraqi and Afgani governments will trust Obama's administration more.

And Iraqi president also told that he supports Obama's plan.

That is good enough reason for me to believe Obama has better foreign policy credentials.

sdl   July 19th, 2008 1:40 pm ET

I find it very disturbing that McCain broadcast this schedule at his last townhall meeting in PUBLIC.

He actually said when and where he thought Obama would be on the ground there-
information that is kept strictly secure for ALL U.S. representatives visiting in a volatile and dangerous war zone!

Anyone else feel McCain's deliberate revealing of the schedule beforehand was dangerous to Obama personally, as well as the two other representatives and ALL the support and service personnel surrounding them, on this trip?

I don't care WHAT party or 'values' you espouse, deliberately putting your opponent at risk seems blatantly unpatriotic, unAmerican, and the act of a coward and traitor to the values this country should espouse.

Yes, I am VERY disturbed that someone that was actually IN a war, and even captured by the enemy, could even THINK about doing such a thing-
but to actually DO IT is appalling.

Dwe5050   July 19th, 2008 1:26 pm ET

CNN,

You guys make me sick, it's okay to report Post/ABC's poll that says that most people consider mcsame a better commander in chief than obama, but what is not okay, is that you deliberately left out that that same poll says that majority of people would vote for obama over mcsame by a margin of 50% against 42%. Have you now started playing partisan politics just like the Post and ABC that conducted the poll and have refused to emphasize that most people would vote for obama instead of mcsame while emphasizing only the aspect of the poll that is favourable to mcsame.

That result of the poll was that if the election were to be held today, obama will defeat mcsame by a margin of 50% against 42% and I believe it's high time you started emphasizing that. May God bless America.

Watermann   July 19th, 2008 1:23 pm ET

Did voters believe in 2000 and 2004 and based on what, that President G.W. Bush had experience on foreign politics, economy, and military issues and national security. I am so sick and tired of reading this nonsens.
A President must be clever and, up to a certain extent, honest to his people and his allies. Like a CEO of a big company he has to place the right staff on the right place and after that he has to make the right decision based on proper intelligence. What has age or any military record to do with "being ready on day one"? I can`t believe that millions of Americans and of course of other nations can be that stupid.

I admit that I am a supporter of Senator Obama. Please tell me on which mainstream media in the US I can follow intelligent discussions without any stupid and bias arguments. Since I am German, please remember that also Adolf Hitler had no experience at all. And what has he done to the entire world?, Does anybody believe that Senator Obama is of the same nature.

Well, after following on various news rooms the discussions in connection with the cover page of "The New Yorker" I am deeply concerned that millions of simple minded people get the wrong ideas.

I really do hope that at the end of the day your great nation takes the right and rational decision on November 4th and forgets about "still for Hill" – " I will win this war". The rest of the world is still depending on the health of the USA.

Anna, SW Missouri   July 19th, 2008 1:18 pm ET

We won't know how her supporters will vote until after the general election and its exit polls. Those who sit it out won't even be counted in exit polls. My feeling is just as the MSM underestimated the reaction to anti-Clinton remarks would generate, and the DNC overestimated voters' party loyalty, that no one has a clear read on what comes of all this. The party may have created a miniboom in Republican registration—disaffected Democrats who will never vote for a Democratic candidate again.

terry,va   July 19th, 2008 1:14 pm ET

Obama knows nothing about running this country. His judgment is terrible. Look at the people he hangs out with. Look at his voting record on issues. He is a socialist at best. When any tough issue comes up he always votes with his party or votes present. He is spineless and will have this country in ruins with socialist policies and and a tuck tail and run military.

Frightening. With less tha 4 months until the election, General Obama has landed and in ONE week he will try to gain foreign policy/national security experience and to try to show some semblance of being a commander. Worse, he has 300 foreign policy advisers, and no two of them can agree on anything. Thus, the Obama flip flops. Pray for America.

California Gold   July 19th, 2008 1:12 pm ET

McCain is probably smacking himself upside his head for taunting Senator Obama over this. The media contingency alone must fill a plane. This is what happens when you have a popular front runner in an election. The media will flock and follow. McCain could only muster Lieberman's interest.

JA Cook   July 19th, 2008 1:11 pm ET

But when will John McCain get around to making a trip to Czechoslovakia? That's the trip I want to see – so he can demonstrate his international skills and demand that the Soviets get their tanks out.

totally concur with this quote   July 19th, 2008 1:11 pm ET

The Democratic National Committee either doesn't get it or refuses to admit it. Nothing short of a lengthy, detailed mea culpa by the DNC and by Obama himself, directed to Clinton supporters for the sexist name-calling and personal, nasty characterizations Clinton was alone forced to endure, will do. Even that may not persuade these voters to consider supporting the party this fall. The DNC, Democratic Party leaders in Congress, and Obama should have been at her side, calling her treatment by the media (and even by some Obama supporters) unacceptable.

According to most polls, something in the range of 20 to 25 percent of her 18 million supporters say they'll vote for Senator McCain in November. That's 4.5 million votes—too many to take for granted. Yet taking them for granted is just what the party and Obama are doing. When CNN's Candy Crowley asked Obama how he would appeal to disaffected Clinton voters, he missed the mark entirely, giving a standard set of policy proposals.

It's nice to be able to 'play, the President"; while not actually, being the President. Its like a "dress-rehhearsal", without all the real "pitfalls;" of the real role, that the Real President plays in "real time"……..it's kinda a nice position to be in, for a "short time", wouldn't you say! But, don't ask G.W. Bush; he may differ!

what are you thinking?   July 19th, 2008 12:35 pm ET

how an earth can 72% polled believe McCain will make a better CIC? the man can not even run his own campaign…. who are they polling the KKK?

Danny in Chicago   July 19th, 2008 12:33 pm ET

Now begins the REAL race for the white house. John McCain – you don't have a chance in hell after Obama returns from this trip. I find it very ironic that our current white house, the republican campaign AND the iraq government is now installing Obama's long held strategy on the war on terror.

Who has good judgment?

And let's not forget that Obama's ideas come directly from the people – and I can proudly say that I am a citizen of the great city of Chicago.

WE'VE KNOWN ALL ALONG AND IT'S ABOUT TIME

Leslie Grodsky   July 19th, 2008 12:31 pm ET

As you check Obama's work record while in law school, What Law firms offered him the high paying jobs that he turned down?

Will-South Dakota   July 19th, 2008 12:30 pm ET

The question is, is he tough enough to stand up for America but graceful enough to improve [its] image?" Crowley said.

What a stupid question to ask, CNN just look how the things Obama has been saying about Iraq and Afghanistan, it's all coming true and proves he's a true leader here at home and will prove to be a world leader the global community will look to for direction.

This has got to be driving McSame up the wall because he c an't generate the excitment and level of HOPE Obama brings to America and abroad.

Phil, FL   July 19th, 2008 12:28 pm ET

Those for McCain obviously don't have tv – or maybe they can't read or think for themselves.

McCain does nothing for vets, women, poor people – it's all for his wealthy friends and lobbyists for big business. That is what needs to stop.

Let's stop it this year. Let's make the US a place where all people have opportunity.

salt of the earth   July 19th, 2008 12:17 pm ET

Propaganda has it that the WHOLE WORLD loves Obama…

Just like all of Amerika loves him….and wants him for president.

Just like he is a shoo in for president… but then why is he still campaigning and raising money…?

I thought Obama had the election in the bag because AmeriKa is in a bad way, after Bush and all, and with all the anti-republican sentiment and desperate AmeriKans grasping at straws in the name of change.

Isn't propaganda a wonderful way to steal a nomination and hopefully steal the election?

Will we fall for the hype- again?

Lisa   July 19th, 2008 12:16 pm ET

I'm sure Obama is terrified to go overseas. This is not his cup of tea. The only thing Obama is good at is giving pre written speeches and playing basketball.

Dave, Illinois   July 19th, 2008 12:13 pm ET

Obama will try to make Afganistan look like a disaster because of some recent setbacks. He won popularity with the pre-911 thinking, left-wing, nutjobs by belittling Gentral Petraus and the Surge when all looked lost in Iraq. McCain had the foresight and guts to support a then-unpopular increase in troops. Now that Iraq is turning into a success, the Obama leech will turn his attention to another trouble spot and play politics there. Obama has no shame.

Our troops are on the verge of being drawn down in Iraq through victory, no thanks to the Democrats. Those troops will probably be sent to a surge into Afganistan and destroy the Taliban. This was not Obama's idea, even though that weasle will try to get credit for it. I hope Obama will be exposed for the grifter that he is.

Messiah complex   July 19th, 2008 12:12 pm ET

Well he is likeable and makes a GREAT first impression.

But then it is downhill from there once people come to see the REAL Barack.

Phony just takes you so far… then you must actually DO something to deserve the praise you crave.

selected not elected   July 19th, 2008 12:10 pm ET

He is sooooooooo in love and infatuated with himself.

So he doesn't have time to do the job he is elected to do—- he is too busy fast tracking himself to the white house.

RJ, CA   July 19th, 2008 12:09 pm ET

"I think it is very important to recognize that I'm going over there as a U.S. senator . . . “ Obama was quoted in a previous article about his trip to Iraq and Afghanistan – presumably for fact-finding purposes.

Then why is he adding on a trip to Europe? As a Senator for fact-finding purposes? Hardly! Who’s paying for this?

Obama is King   July 19th, 2008 12:08 pm ET

VON BISMARK, Vienna   July 19th, 2008 12:06 pm ET

CAN THIS BE TRUE?

DER SPIEGEL newspaper carries an article stating that the Iraqi PM has endorsed OBAMA'S plan for troop withdrawal from Iraq.

mcSHAME the war is over.Time to go home.

Farrell, Houston, Tx   July 19th, 2008 12:06 pm ET

MCCAIN WANTS TO BE COMMANDER IN CHIEF, WHAT A FRAUD. RUMSFELD DENIED TROOPS BETTER EQUIPMENT AND SAID YOU GO TO WAR WITH WHAT YOU HAVE, MCCAIN REMAINED SILENT BECAUSE HE SUPPORTED HIM. MCCAIN DIDN'T SUPPORT THE GI BILL. MCCAIN DIDN'T VOTE FOR VETERANS STIMULOUS CHECKS. MCCAIN TOOTS ABOUT HIS MILITARY EXPERIENCE BUT DIDN'T SUPPORT OUR TROOPS. WHAT MORE PROOF DOES ONE NEED TO KNOW MCCAIN IS A FRAUD. VOTE OBAMA.

Crush Rush   July 19th, 2008 12:06 pm ET

Poor John, from hero to coward for knuckling under to George in 2000 when he should have stood his ground and fought the neocons instead of tacking their promise to get him elected now.

Susan   July 19th, 2008 12:06 pm ET

Obama has more qualifications in his little finger than does McBush. At least Obama believes in diplomacy, while McBush only believesin the continued slaughter of American soldier in a war that should have never been started!

SSG   July 19th, 2008 12:06 pm ET

JoeReed   July 19th, 2008 12:02 pm ET

Obama already knows what is going in Iraq and Afghanistan. He really did not need to go, just like millions of Americans do not need to go to know what is really going on.. but, he did it to shup up John McCain and his group of thughs and now…he is whining about it !!!!!!

McCombover would make a great "Smirker-in-Chief", just like the last one!!

George   July 19th, 2008 11:57 am ET

It's astounding that more people think McCain would be a good commander in chief than Obama.

McCain was WRONG about the single most important foreign policy decision of our generation. Obama was RIGHT!

McCain spacifically said he refuses to be diplomatic with Iran and WILL start a war with them. Guaranteed.

America is really dumb for not seeing the obvious.

Terry, Dallas, Texas   July 19th, 2008 11:56 am ET

Definitely!!!!! The mere fact that Sen Obama was tough enough to stand up to the slanted media bias during the primaries and now leading up to the general election, suggests that he can and will. Who better than Sen Obama, especially when the only other alternative is Sen McCain, to gracefully improve America's image. What a contrast of the two. If the media would spend even a third of their time slammig McCain as they do Obama, we'd see different polling numbers and opinions of the candidates. That's exactly why I watch as little coverage as done by CNN.

Brad - California   July 19th, 2008 11:55 am ET

Maybe the Bush/McCain administration could learn from the experience of Barak. The things that Obama said during the earlier stages of the campaign, e.g. sitting down with the enemy and talking, that were laughed at and called niave by everyone from Hillary Clinton to John McCain, are happening now. Apparently Bush and McCain are the niave and inexperienced ones.

Maybe too much Washington "insider" experience is what got our country into the sad position it is today.

Franky   July 19th, 2008 11:55 am ET

Man guys, that's just so cool! LOL!! It got me psyched up!!

And not to mention that the King of Jordan wants to talk policy already!! In my opinion, this is the most coolest thing by far. I know I care about the economy but this for me, I really like a lot…

Linda31   July 19th, 2008 11:53 am ET

Oh he is tough and graceful info! Although I am mad that McCain let info about Obama travel plans slip. For someone who is a "seasoned" Senator, I question that slip.

TiredOfMcCainsFreeRide   July 19th, 2008 11:49 am ET

Can you please report on the fact that John McCain, just "let it slip" that Barack Obama will likely be in Iraq this weekend? These are details that no one was releasing for obvious security reasons, yet John McCain somehow feels it's ok to release those details which put is opponent at risk.

But I guess the MSM will just treat it as one of those cute "McCain gaffes" and give him yet another free ride.

Thomas, Illinois   July 19th, 2008 11:49 am ET

Good luck Senator….Obama 08

baracomama   July 19th, 2008 11:49 am ET

the McCain camp is already crying about all the attention Obamas tour will be getting from the press. he knew that his hollow immature dare to have town weekly tall hall meetings would be the only way this guy can draw any kind of crowds but being a real leader not a follower Mr Obama let him see that McCain is not in charge and does not set the agenda.. I pray Oh how I pray that this guy gets what he is wishing for. MEDIA please give him the attention he is begging for. Show him as the lying, flip-flopping clown that he is.

Monica for Obama in Indiana   July 19th, 2008 11:48 am ET

Obama would have been a good Commander in Chief, even if he had not taken this trip. Because he has the decency, integrity and judgement to surround himself with experts from both sides of the aisle to do what is necessary to get America back on track and the respect of the world once again. No one wants to stay in a hole all of their lives. With the bush administration we are accessible to all terroist here and abroad.

Whether republicans are saying it through polls or not, I saw on a news report that they will be voting for Obama in November.

Good thing voting is private.

Franky   July 19th, 2008 11:46 am ET

"It's about politics. It's a way for Obama to try and compete on foreign policy," Jill Hazelbaker said."

Look who's talking! LOL!! Don't even get me started with Senator McCain, LOL!!

By the way, this is crazy guys!! He's not here in the states, he's on the international stage! This is just amazing! You do gotta admit, it is pretty cool….

Maggie Muggins From Selwyn   July 19th, 2008 11:45 am ET

Hey America I just had a dream!

In 2008 America elected it's first Black President.

In 2058 America elected it's first Woman President.

In 2108 America elected it's first Gay/Lesbian President.

In 2158 America declared the days of the Wild West were over and people no longer had to be armed to the teeth under the premise of their own self protection.

Don't panic Mr. McCain it was only a dream so with a little luck and a lot more intolerance your party can still prevent all this from happening.

Brad   July 19th, 2008 11:45 am ET

"In a recent Washington Post/ABC News poll, 48 percent of registered voters said Obama would make a good commander in chief, compared with 72 percent for his Republican rival, John McCain."

So… that adds up to 120%. Pretty efficient survey there.

Don't Vote For Hate   July 19th, 2008 11:43 am ET

I bet Mr Obama won't be brave enough to accept flowers from a child and wait for the photo op while under sniper fire like his opponent did!

AJ   July 19th, 2008 11:40 am ET

Perhaps we could put him out on the front lines? Lets see if he can talk them into submission; he's done a good job of doing that here in the US.

RENEE   July 19th, 2008 11:40 am ET

I believe in you Obama. You are the one who can restore America again. These Republican criminals has destroyed us all over the world. We need you and every night I pray to God that he will give you to us.

Rebecca From Toledo, Ohio   July 19th, 2008 11:40 am ET

Does Obama think we are all stupid?? He is ONLY doing this as a
PR stunt. He dosen't know diddley about foreign affairs. I hope he leaves his wife at home so she dosen't get up and make one of her stupid speeches.

go away mongers- Ventura ca   July 19th, 2008 11:39 am ET

This trip which is being bashed by the RNC and McCain camp as a "photo op" is one their candidate called for. Obama always does the smart thing and the best thing for this country. He will make a great President. He needs no counsel from a group that has taken this country to the edge of abyss.

kent   July 19th, 2008 11:38 am ET

"The question is, is he tough enough to stand up for America but graceful enough to improve [its] image?"

**************************
Yes he is. Yes he is. The answer to both sides of the question.

Down with Obama   July 19th, 2008 11:38 am ET

Hope they keep him over there along with the abc, nbc and cbs anchors!! They can stay there with their buddy Osama!! Birds of a feather, flock together!!!
