Former Pres. Bush 'a little jealous' of Obama

Former Pres. Bush spoke about Obama Monday.
Former Pres. Bush spoke about Obama Monday.

(CNN) - There’s been plenty of second-guessing from Republican critics about Barack Obama's large-scale public events and speeches scheduled for his visit to Europe this week - but former President George H.W. Bush isn't one of them.

Asked today whether, as a former head of state who has a sensitivity about protocol, he has any thoughts about the appropriateness of Obama's planned events, the former President replied, "A little jealous, is all."

The former president, who says he's just returned from a visit to Germany's Brandenburg gate, added that Obama will "figure it out."

Should be embarrased, disgusted and outraged after the last 8 years.

And in that response is the revelation. The GOP is making all this noise because, in truth, they are jealous. Jealous that they couldn't be able to draw the crowds and also because they didn't think of it.

    Such small minds.

Mr. Bush looks and sounds pretty good for someone of his age.

Maybe the Republicans should have given him another shot. He appears to have more on the ball than McSame.

The former President Bush has always had a great deal of integrity and honesty. He was simply trying to make a positive statement about a young man that is about to become our next President.

Don't you guys have anything better to do than to constantly be negative and expect to be winners-
You are whinners and have to learn that the reason –that you only have had 1 President ( Democratic ) that has won the White House with more than 50% of the vote in the last 40 Years ( Jimmy Carter )
    Some leader he was-
Even Your Boy Clinton Never got 50% of the vote-
You continue being negative-we will just continue winning-
I hope to God you never figure it out -

I read it as him being jealous that he wasn't on the trip, but that's just me. It didn't sound like he said he was jealous of Obama. I'm not sure why anybody would be jealous of a fraud who flip flops, makes promises he can't keep and has terrorists for friends. Seriously. Jealous? Who are they kidding?

Why is the media hyping this whole thing? They staged the frenzy and now trying to get people's opinion on it. Isn't that ironic? The media has been focusing so much on Obama that they are not reporting all the misteps that McCain. has been making. Whey they do it's just for 24hrs while any mistep by Obama stays for weeks in the media. Example is when Mr. Gramm called Americans "whiners", it was same week Mr. Jackon used the "n" word on Obama. Mr. Gramms statement stayed in the media for a little over 36 hrs while Mr. Jackon's remark stayed in the media for more than a week. How fair is that in comparison?

True... His son just returned from his goodby tour and we barely noticed... Who isn't jealous of Obama?
I wish I could command a zillionth of the kind of attention he gets... He's simply too dynamic – too bad for republicans I guess...
Reminds me of Bill Clinton when he burst on the national scene – there's not much you can do about it...

Do you guys know how to read? Bush Sr. said he just came back from visiting Germany. Was there any media reporting his trip? Not I know. When Obama is visiting Germany, so many reporters are following him. That was what he meant jealous.

He was not re-elected. I heard his son boasted to him he was re-elected! There have been some competition between the 41st and 43rd, the father and son. Actually that hurt the 43rd. If the son asked more advice from the daddy, he might be more successful on foreign affairs.

I thought this was a fact-finding mission, and he was going to Iraq as a Senator and not a Presidential Candidate. At least that is what he said.

Really Willy? Airhead? In the tank with the media? The media falls all over him because he is smart, articulate, respectful, and a story. McCain bores drying paint that has to watch him.
Bush I is jealous because he understands foreign policy and the importance of being admired and liked by the rest of the world, and wishes he was that guy again.
Isn't the fact that people are excited about a leader in both the U.S. and around the world a good thing?
